You mean Heihachi. Yeah, you could be right ~ I mean, where else but in anime cartoons would you see what looks like some old guy with wings on his head? :D
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel Games aren't defined by what they look like, they are defined by how they are played. Xenosaga is an RPG and SC2 is a fighter.
I do know what genres they are, but what I'm wondering is whether or not they are considered to be done in the anime style. It's hard to tell with SC2 from these shots, but I think they're cool enough to display;

Batman, Spider-man, The Hulk, X-Men, Superman & now Spawn (again) ? and it looks like this time they got it right (http://www.namco.com/games/spawn). Have I left any out? Who should be next?

Xenosaga counts as an anime game, doesn't it? And what about Soul Calibur 2? It's hard to tell from actually playing the game, but if you look at the character renderings at the site (http://www.soulcalibur2.com) they are drawn in anime style... so does that make it an anime game?
-
You can list old console games (N64, Genesis, PS, etc.) as well as next-gen. If there are any anime games that aren't out yet that you want, list those too. I'm curious to see just how many different anime games actually make it onto this list. I recently found a list of anime games online and I was surprised to see how long it was - most of it was on PS or PC though.

Sepiroth, are you or will you be in any SC2 tournaments?
Originally posted by Razzamataz it doesn't seem like anybody has anything about Heihachi so I'll add my two scents about him..
I really like the fact that you gave many supportive examples when giving your opinion about this. I know I sound like a grammar teacher, but I just can't stand when someone says something like, "You're all stupid! Heihachi RULES!!" but doesn't explain why. So thanks for being intelligent about it. Makes me want to go get the PS2 version now to play Heihachi! I have to say, though, I'm really having a great time with Spawn now that I have the Xbox version. Some of his moves are simply wicked, and he's so cool to watch.

Well, I feel the need to brag because I have Link AND Spawn as extra characters now! I first got the GC version & now I have the Xbox version too. They're both my favorite characters for each version, so the only problem is that I wish I could have them both fight each other in the same game. Anyone else have either of these versions yet? I have the GC version with Link as the extra character and so far I think all the characters are great. Link is my favorite fighter to use for now, but all the characters have some really great moves that are fun to watch. It's a beautiful game. So does anyone have the Xbox or GC version? If so, how is it playing so far and what is your extra character like to play? (Heihachi or Spawn) Spawn: http://www.soulcalibur2.com/sc2_xbox.html

Is there no one else here who has played Xenogears on the PS1? Man, that's depressing!

That's a lot of FF time, Desbreko! Is it just Zelda and FF for you, or have you played any other RPGs?
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel Usually, when I beat the game I never play it again... Xenogears - First time through was 70 hours. I don't remember if I played it again...
I know what you mean - I usually don't replay any game that I've beat, although some of my favorite games are like my favorite movies: I just HAVE to see it again, have to try a new way of winning, have to re-live the experience, you know? Xenegears is a perfect example. I just really loved it the first time and had to play it again later, although usually RPGs are sooooo long that I don't do them over again ~ mostly I replay 1st and 3rd person shooters. Are you excited that Xenosaga is almost here?

I swear ? there are lots of types of games that can take a lot of time to play, but I don?t think any other genre ultimately ends up costing me so much overall game-playing time in the end. I think I must spend about 120 to 200 hours on each RPG I play. Is that average? How much time do you think you spend on RPGs on the average, and what?s the longest game you ever played?
-
See? This is thought-provoking after all! Thanks guys for your support. Lesson learned... just make sure a topic is phrased in such a way as to be conducive to discussion depth and breadth. So, anyway, my game is Xenogears. I think I spent about half a year on that game. It just seemed to have the best of everything: graphics, music, design, scripting, theme and mostly story.. what a unique story. When a game has enough of all the elements that it makes you feel almost like an active part of a really good movie... well, that keeps me coming back every time. I simply can't wait for Xenosaga (only 1 month left!), because it will most likely be even better. I mean, graphically it will HAVE to be better simply because it's on PS2 instead of PS1. But I feel pretty confident that it will deliver in the other areas as well. Other games that didn't take as long to complete, but provide endless replay value for me are usually shooters, such as Halo, MOH, Hitman, 007 Nightfire, GTA 3/Vice City and Ghost Recon... all of those are like being a part of a really great action movie for me.

Twice now my topic was locked. The question was "what's the longest amount of time you've spent on a game". It has been locked because it 'won't lead to any sort of intelligent discussion.' So, I'm going to try a different approach in the hopes that a different phrasing would be more conversational - sort of an experiment. How about this question: In considering games that you've spent the most time on, what is it about a game that you feel gives it 'staying power'? In other words, what characteristics of these games make them worth spending so much time on.. and should be in more games of the future?
-
I think the longest I ever went was about 8 months with Xenogears for PSX, but that?s because I played it off and on.
-
Hmmmm.. okay, fair 'nuf.

Okay, my topic was, "What's the longest amount of time you've ever spent on a game?" and Justin locked it. I feel so discriminated against - how is my topic any less appropriate than some of the other topic headers, such as: "Pop goes your brain" "Competition - who has the Best Chat Convo?" "Weird yet unique things about yourself" "Gotta love my English Class" "Ob Names!?" ... etc., etc.. I mean, this IS the lounge, so any topic should do, right? I don't see how my topic is any better or any worse than anyone else's. I would just like a little more of an explanation as to why my topic was deemed so 'inappropriate' for an 'anything goes'-type forum.

The only non-RPG games that meet the criteria as far as I'm concerned are Halo and GTA3. There's a game coming out one of these days called HAVEN that might actually live up to all the criteria, but I'm only basing that on the game description they have at the website: Haven: Call of the King may just be the most important videogame of all time. With its all new FreeFormer? gameplay, Haven, Call of the King has introduced a new videogame genre, which allows the player to experience multiple gameplay mechanics blended together in a seemingly boundless Universe. Haven is the first game to truly combine groundbreaking technology and unbelievable real-time fully-open worlds. Played out through an epic tale of a hero who seeks to liberate his people from the tyranny of enslavement, HAVEN provides total freedom to move anywhere both on foot or vehicle and spans across seamless transitions between turret based shooting, boat racing, bike battles, plane flight, gladiator arena combat and space exploration. Simply put, HAVEN transcends traditional videogame genres, to deliver the most diverse gameplay experience ever realized. - I mean that SOUNDS pretty amazing, and the screens look great, but of course I won't know it's actually in my PS2.
-
I can see why story and gameplay would stay near the top of the list - especially for RPGs. What NON-RPG games do you think meet all or most of these criteria?
-
Put these in their order of importance to you: 1. Interaction (does the environment seem alive with reactive items?) 2. A.I. (are the in-game bots convincingly intelligent?) 3. Graphics (does this game look photo-realistic?) 4. Gameplay (does the game itself stimulate your gaming sensibilities?) 5. Story (would it almost make a better book or movie?) 6. Props (cars, guns, planes, boats? do you prefer more toys?) 7. Sound (music, effects, voice overs have to be soundtrack-worthy!) 8. Size (does this game take months to finish?) 9. Design (the more realistic, the better?...... or the more bizarre and creative?) 10. Gore (not for the faint of heart?.lots of dismemberment & blood!)
