After all, my current heterosexual friend that isn't my boyfriend but isn't my bump buddy that isn't in a relationship but won't commit because he's afraid of his feelings partner would be quite distressed.
:rapid blink: That might have been the single most painful sentence I've ever read in one of your posts. That said, somebody needs to knock some sense into him. I mean, we are talking about you here. Oh, and SaiyanPrincessX, you're welcome, I suppose. You'll just have to let me know if you ever move back to Phoenix after January (when I'm moving there). ;)
2.
My "bolded" statement is show how out of touch the woman is with american politics. The VP is not in charge of the senate, the Majority and Minority leaders or "Floor Leaders" head the senate. Though no one is technically in charge (democracy). The VP casts the tying vote, but other than that they have no senatorial powers; none.
OK, now I can see where you're coming from, though I would probably put it down as poor phrasing. They are humans after all. I just wanted to make sure comments were being made with proper knowledge and all that. Too many political things get all screwed up because of one misunderstanding.
3.
This just in: "A vice president has a really great job because not only are they there to support the president’s agenda, they’re like the team member, the teammate to that president, but also they’re in charge of the United State Senate." -Sarah "Caribou Barbie" Palin I'm not even sure I have the strength to point out all of the things wrong with this statement. The woman doesn't even know what her job would entail! I'm moving to Canada.
OK, while I don't like Palin at all, I'm curious what's up with your bolded statement here. The Vice President is actually the President of the Senate, and the tie-breaker vote if one is ever needed. How often our Vice Presidents are actually present at Senate meetings, I don't know, but they do serve in that capacity. That said, I'm voting for Obama, though I'm not making predictions of any sort.
4. Well, just got Fable II last night, so everything else just got shoved to the side, although I did finish playthrough #1 of Tales of Vesperia (though I'll be beating the final boss again after doing some Grade farming and nabbing a few sidequests). So far, Fable II is awesome. The game is gorgeous, and I'm not even playing it in HD (need to upgrade my TV). I've got like 4 hours of game time, and I haven't even really felt the need to leave the first town (though I did accidentally vandalize someone's property while I was getting used to the controls - I shot a box). So it's looking promising. Combat is smooth and loads of fun, but it's not overly easy. I'll probably be posting more about it at a later date.
5.
Grammar Nazi.
Just to be a smart ***...Does that actually count as dressing up for you? Moving on, I'm not sure if I'm dressing up this year. My fiance is dressing up as a belly dancer, but I'm not sure myself. I just know I'm handing out candy. As for my favorite holiday, Halloween gets that vote. While I kind of grew out of the whole dressing up thing, I still love the whole Halloween vibe. Besides, last year was fun. Took a friend's daughter trick-or-treating and used it has an excuse to walk around carrying my shenais (sp? - I can never remember how to spell that). Trust me, no jerkoff high schoolers were trying anything stupid on us.
6. I think I'm just enough of a non-personality to be safe from this. Seriously, I'm not sure most people here know who I am, even under my original name (which is, BTW, MoyakuKeramushe). I think, if anything, Raiha would be that cousin, which I guess makes Gavin my cousin or something weird like that. ((How do cousins work through marriage?)) Beyond that, I don't see anyone laying claim to me as family, although I am engaged IRL to Arichan16 (another non-personality, she's not very good at online conversation). On a side note, as has already been said, this would definitely be one very incestual little family. Maybe we should all relocate to West Virginia.
7. I jsut remembered the name for one - SaiyanPrincessX. But I'm moving on now.
8. Ok, just to get the obvious out of the way: Raiha. I mean, who here wouldn't? And though she doesn't really post, Arichan16 (but that doesn't really count, since she's my fiance). There is the issue that parts of this list would actually be underage...Which makes me feel old. Stephanie, you need to turn 18. That's all I'm saying. You know, being straight is going to make this list a lot shorter. But those are off the top of my head. I'm sure I'll run into more later. On a side note, if I weren't straight, I'd probably have to throw in a vote towards Rach, at least on personality.
9. Alright, props for managing to reference AC/DC and Tracy Byrd in the same chapter. I should probably re-read this from the beginning, but I did get some laughs out of the latest chapter.
10. I'm somewhere in the middle with coffee. I like it, a lot, but I try to not drink it. I actually broke myself off a pretty bad caffeine addiction (that was not a fun month), and I don't care much for decaf, so I pretty much avoid it. Wen I did drink it, I was more for black coffee than having any sugar or cream in it.
11. Well, I was planning on staying away from this, but Aaryanna_Mom's post has compelled me. First, at A_M, thank you. I understand how hard it is for some people to acknowledge that their are times when religion needs to be put to the side, and you have a lot of respect from me for being able to do that. Second, on to the topic. As I tend to take a rather logical view on things, I can't say whether homo/bisexuality is right or wrong, though I can say it doesn't bother me. What I can say is that many of the issues that arise because of it are civil rights issues, and there is no reason to treat homo/bisexuals any differently. OK, if you're not comfortable calling it marriage, so be it, but there should definitely be provisions made for 'civil unions' or whatever you wish to call them. I've heard it said that it's wrong simply because it's not the norm. I cannot understand this argument. That's like telling me there's a problem with me simply because my IQ is higher than the 'average'. Or like telling me I can't function in normal society simply because I have ADD (which actually makes it pretty dang easy to function, since I've learned to work with it instead of against it, thanks to a friend of mine, who also has it).
12. Holy crap. I don't even know what to say here. Just read the whole thing so far. I don't think I'll be breathing properly for like an hour. I think someone needs to give DeLarge some clothes though. And I'm voting with Gavin on the whole Heaven thing. I think you're going to get a lot of votes for 'straight to Hell' with DB up in heaven.
13.
Dragon Warrior or any other geeky members Unfortunatly there were not any black mage ones.
I don't know....I think that looks more like a casting of dancing lights to me.
14.
I don't know if Cheney has changed this or something, but keep in mind that the VP position is usually worthless. Unless you think McCain dying is a huge threat, I don't see McCain giving much power to Palin.
But that is the exact problem in this election. McCain is 72-years-old. If elected, he will be the oldest man ever elected president. He is at an age where even in perfect health, it would not be a surprise if something popped up that, to put it bluntly, killed him. The Vice Presidents in this election are nearly as important as the Presidents. It's one of the reasons my father won't vote for Obama. He doesn't like Joe Biden, and he's convinced that the one of the fairly large number of racists in this country of ours is going to assassinate him. Technically, it's not that farfetched. So the Vice Presidents matter a lot more than normal this time around.
15. Two trips to the hospital in under 24 hours - not exactly how I'd imagined spending time with Raiha. To top it all of, it looked like somebody had it in bad for Mike. Getting shot was fairly routine in Otaku City, but even in a low-budget hellhole like Otaku General popping sutures while on a morphine drip was far from normal. I told Raiha I was leaving, though I wasn't fond of the idea. Admittedly, part of that was that I was simply enjoying the time outside of work, but at least an equal part of that was simply that I was worried she might be a target too. Fact was, however, I could likely be far more useful elsewhere. I was surprised to see a lack of cops hanging around. Considering attitudes the night before, I'd rather expected at least one to be stationed there to badger people. Then again, Gavin and I may very well have scared them off. That was the idea after all. The big question once I was out of the hospital was simply where the hell to start. With Mike out, I don't really have a way of knowing what exactly happened and where. For now, I was apparently alloted to mindless wandering until I stumbled upon something interesting. I though 15th might be a good spot to begin considering that's where Rai had picked up her friend. It wasn't much to go off, especially since Mike wouldn't likely be near a cholo convention, but I had to start somewhere. It was not a particularly short walk to 15th, but my car was at Rai's, not to mention I didn't like to bring it on these excursions. You had far more escape options on foor if you knew what you were doing, and that always made it seem like a better option to me. Of course, it took three times longer for me, as I took something of a zigzag route. I prefer it that way, as it throws people for a loop. Unfortunately, my only lead turned up empty. There'd definitely been quite a ruckus, and a few people got stabbed, but no shots. That kinda rules out Mike's problem, unless someone had a knife that left bullets. I had to rethink my approach, and quickly realized mistake #1. Mike had to have been attacked much closer to home. He had three bullets in him and was near dead when he got to the apartment. There was no way he could've covered any significant distance in that state. Some cop I was to miss something that obvious. Having stumbled upon that realization, I started heading toward Rai's apartment. For once, I was making a straight shot, no detours. I'd gotten about 4 blocks, just walking past a parking garage, when I heard someone call my name. I stopped dead, mildly unnerved, as I didn't see anyone around. "Do not move, Kenso, and my subordinates will do the same. We are aware of the danger you could be to use, and have no interest in losing men to bring you down just for a warning unless absolutely necessary." As I looked around, I noticed men hidden in the shadows at building corners and little nooks in front of doorframes. The voice sounded like it was coming from the parking garage, but I wasn't going to turn to look. "Alright, you've got my attention. What do you want?" "Something rather regrettable happened to a young man last night. He got himself caught in the middle of quite a mess, I'm afraid." "So three bullet and dead twice on the gurney wasn't enough? You have to fuck up his surg-" "SILENCE. Do not question me. The problem you speak of was not by our hand. We are not in the habit of killing children. That was the other side of the equation he's in the middle of. " "Who's responsible?" "That is not for you to know, not now. You can talk to the boy - if or when he wakes. Or you can talk to that pretty little girl of yours." "Don't have a girl of mine, so I don't know what you're talking about." "Don't be stupid. Every one of us knows better than that, even if you don't. By the gods, at least she knew to keep her mouth shut while I talked. And say nothing - she's alive and no longer in our hands. You are going to hear a car start. When you can no longer hear the engine, turn around. There will be a wallet on the toll booth. In it is contact information. Use it after you've spoken to the boy." Within seconds of him shutting up, I heard the loud roar of a powerful engine. I could hear it driving away for a while, but I was on the move the second the sound faded away. I didn't bother to look in the wallet I found, simply shoving it in a pocket. I pulled my cell phone and immediately called Raiha. The voice that answered was male and accented. "Raiha's phone. Who's calling?" I was pissed. "Where the hell is Rai?" "Someone messed her up and dropped her on our doorstep. Sister cleaned her up. Meet you at the park near her apartment." "Fine." I hung up and started booking for the park. I wasn't there long before a car pulled up and some Southsiders stepped out, helping Raiha out of the car. I saw her face and nearly flipped, but I knew enough to know they wouldn't have done that to her. "Ey man, we return your heina to you, better than she was." I walked over and tilted her face up for a better look. She'd definitely been cleaned up well. "Thank you." "No problem, man. Lil Z's sister's neutral. No reason for her to be messed up. Now we just return what's yours. Adios." They got back in the car and left, leaving me with Raiha. I spoke before she could. "Alright, I really want to know what happened, but I gotta figure something out first. Why does everyone seem to think I have a claim to you? Did something happen that I'm not aware of that changes our status? Or am I just that damned oblivious?"
16.
Besides I have never said "teach them religions", I said "teach them about religions." How can anyone not see that this is basic information to understand anything of what goes on in the world, history and present?
I fail to see the difference between the two. You can not teach about religions without teaching the religions' various mythologies and beliefs. The cultural impact of religions is covered in World Cultures (or Social Studies, whatever your schools happen to call it), or it's supposed to be, as was in all the schools I know of. But a whole class only about religions is wasted time and money. I don't believe religion has any basic information that I'd want my children being taught. Depending on the religion being discussed, we'll be teaching our children that women are second-rate and effectively the property of men, or perhaps that anyone who steps an inch out of line is doomed to eternal damnation. I do not deny the cultural impact of various religions. Indeed, it's one of the things in this world that depresses me the most, as I don't feel that religion has had many positive effects (hell, look at how many wars have been fought for religious reasons). That said, I'm going to digress from the argument, since it's going to quickly spiral off-topic at this rate. EDIT: Since you added while I was posting: The existence and impact of religions as a whole is indeed fact. However, the belief systems of these religions is nowhere near fact, as not a single one of them can produce scientific evidence to support what they have to say. Just because it is man-made does not make it correct, and it's no longer fact if it's wrong. And a course on religions would have to go into these unsubstantiated and often outdated beliefs.
17.
As for Kenso and Boo's posts i will say that i think i already touched on a number of the points they made and hope they go back and read my posts if they haven't already. I will ask Kenso though what he considers to be "factual basis." I'm guessing loads of scientific evidence gathered over numerous decades doesn't count as "factual basis" if he truly believes evolution has none.
You may wish to re-read my post. I never even mention evolution. I really only discuss the idea of teaching ID in schools, which I believe is utterly lacking in merit. I am quite convinced that evolutionary theory is correct, and that the idea of some supernatural being waving his hand and making things as they are is ridiculous.
18. I must say that you're beginning to get my attention with this. This last chapter or so has sparked my interest, and I am intrigued by what is to come.
19. OK, I'll give fair warning: I'm going to be pointed and blunt in this. If you'd prefer something softer, than I'd skip this post if I were you. To be frank, this piece was painful to read, almost literally. You lack proper punctuation and capitalization, and your sentence structuring is horrid in many places. On a quick scan I can locate a dozen spelling mistakes, and I'm not even looking for them. Your chapters feel rushed, although I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt with this, since you said you were going to work quickly through the initial training time. So far, the story feels rather cliche, and the characters are relatively flat and lifeless. I just cannot bring myself to like or dislike any of them. Both times 'Ben' arrived were far too rushed, and never at any point is it so much as hinted at what his real problem with Kwon is, or why he would have any interest in getting his hands on Jackson's mother. I'm going to keep up with this for now, see where you go and what you do with what I've said so far, but right now, to be completely honest, it's not looking good at all.
20.
don't buy that 'dry heat' bull crap. It's hot. If the thermometer reads 108 degrees (about 40C or so) humidity or a lack of it won't make a bit of differece
I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. Having experienced 90+ degrees (including triple digits) and 70%+ humidity and 110 degrees at
21. And here I thought I was going to stay out of this conversation, as I do so many. With all due respect, Boo, I think the idea of "teaching" religion in school is completely insane. School courses should do one of three things: educate them on skills they can use later in life (which requires facts), inspire creativity (hence art and music classes), or better the student physically (phys. ed., though I believe some kind of martial arts should be a requirement). A religious class cannot accomplish any of these, at least not regularly enough to allow. Religions are not supported by fact, making it nearly impossible to properly educate on them, especially since inquisitive minds are absolutely guaranteed to stumble upon one of the many, many questions that cannot be answered in any way. You cannot truly teach students, especially children, a subject in which half of the questions that will come up have no real answers, and no concrete way to explain them. In addition, having a religious class would require an absolutely unbiased teacher, and that is a near-impossibility of its own. You cannot expect a Christian teacher to give another religion a fair look in comparison to their own, or a teacher of any other religion for that matter. Even an atheist wouldn't work so well. After all, how do you meaninfully educate anyone on a subject you don't actually believe in to begin with? I for one would be straight up insulted if I was told a non-religious school was attempting to teach my child various religions, and I would seriously question what was going on. Now I'm sure that my answer to the question originally presented in this thread can be surmised from what I just said. If you can't support it with facts, then you can't teach it. As has been stated, Intelligent Design has no factual basis to run off, so it doesn't belong in schools.
22. I'm currently engrossed in Oblivion on my 360. By the gods, this game is MASSIVE. 108 hours on one character, and I haven't completed the main quest yet, nor have I completed more than half the sidequests. This one is going to keep me happy for years to come (especially when it's time for my 'complete and own everything' run). After that, I'll be moving on to Mass Effect. From what I've seen, it's another awesome game with an engaging storyline and a rather nice battle system. I've watched my friend play it for a good 5 or 6 hours, so I don't think I'll be disappointed once I start playing. I just don't want to get involved in it until I'm done with Oblivion. Those are just the 'main games' though. I'm also playing Fable II Pub Games (half a million gold and everything unlocked, and counting) on XBox Live Arcade, Star Wars: Battlefront II on PS2, Crackdown on the 360, and of course, Super Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart on the Wii.
23. I rolled my eyes and let out a groan as the cell phone rang. By the gods, aren't we allowed one uninterrupted moment of normalcy around here? Just fucking one?! I say nothing as Rai picks up the phone, her voice slightly annoyed as she greets whoever is one the other end. "Hello?...Yes, this is Ms. Grace." Whatever is said next turns Rai even more white. Not a good fucking sign. It takes a little time before she says anything. "Is he OK?....He's strong, he'll come through.....Good-bye." She barely has the strength in her to place the phone down at the news. I watch as the phone slides from her fingers onto the table, and she just sits there. She looks ready to cry, and I know something's up with Michael. I take two steps toward her and she looks up. "They say the sutures broke, that he woke up early and broke them moving. They had to bring him back into surgery. He's stable now. The doctor didn't sound too convinced about what happened." I finish walking toward her, wiping away a tear that was sliding down her cheek. We both knew better. There was something bigger going down here, and while I don't think the doctor was in on it, the Surgeon may very well be. It just didn't sound promising. "You want to head over?" She stands as though to answer, but that's when she breaks down completely. She's trying not to sob, and that's obvious, but she can't really be blamed. I wrap my arms around her, resting her head against my chest. My fingers toy with her hair a little bit, as I'm not really sure what else to do. I know a lot of people that helps calm down, myself included. Not sure why, but it does. As I hold her, I glance over at the end table where my guns are sitting. I think maybe I need to work some overtime tonight....
24. At the moment, I live in the Northeastern portion of Pennsylvania (United States, of course). And I hate it. Don't get me wrong, it does have it's good points. There's still a lot of untouched forest, which is beautiful, especially when it snows, and I'm practically dead center between New York City and Philadelphia (no more of a difference driving than like 15 minutes). That said, I've never been to either (except for the Philly airport). Wilkes-Barre, where I live, has fallen apart in the last two decades, and while it used to be a pretty awesome place (from what I know of its past), it's nothing now. The nearest theme park is like 1 1/2 hours away, and I've been there so many times it's boring now. And there is almost nothing within the city. Admittedly, our music scene isn't horrible (Breaking Benjamin came from our music scene), if you're the type to go out to bars and the like. I'm not. The only time I go to a bar is when my uncle's band is playing (nothing impressive, as his supporting cast is bad, but it's just for fun for them). However, all this will be changing in January, when I'll be moving down to Phoenix, Arizona. I've been down there and loved it, and my mom lives down there. And since there's nothing here (including jobs), my fiance and I are gonna take a shot at moving elsewhere. Other places I've been: Spent the first three years of my life in Alaska, lived in California for a while, visited Boston numerous times (wouldn't want to live there, but not horrible for a visit), San Antonio (HATED IT - but I was there for BMT, so I could be biased), VA Beach (that was fun), and North Carolina. As far as I can remember, that's about all of them. Oh, and I've been to New Jersey, but that's was visiting people for a day, and we didn't really do much except enjoy the inground swimming pool.
25. I still think you're both overreacting and looking far too for a reason to complain. On top of that, you're talking like other companies don't do the same kind of things. Fact is, that's how business is done. At least Nintendo's equipment works the way they say it will when it comes out (and will likely continue to do so for YEARS to come). Our other console companies can't say that. (And I can't even say I agree with Des about the Wii Zapper - I rather like it.) I'd like to see what they're going to throw into the next Mario Party with this. That's been one of my gripes with some of the mini-game 'games' for the Wii (Carnival Games, for example) - some of the games don't work well without proper representation of hand movement.
