I don't have anything specific in mind at the moment. I actually placed my character in a mall because I figured it would be a good way to run into other people, but that hasn't worked out so well. So any ideas would be welcome to me too.

Good to see some turnout here. Everyone posted so far is approved. I'm going to keep the sign-ups open until Friday, at which point I will likely post the starting topic (or at least try my best). Of course, it's also to give me time to build up bios for some of the townsfolk (blacksmith, banker, hotel owner, etc.), Clark, and my own character. Anyone who wishes to submit another character is welcome to. New sign-ups are obviously also welcome.

Man, this is great fun to read. I love the soup line. And how he's staring at a dozen dead bodies and is more concerned about how hard it's going to be to clean up. Keep it coming.

Ah, poor Zen. Just can't catch a break. I wonder, do all assassins find it that hard to have a quiet dinner date?

Well, it's begun. A thread is now started in the Auditions forum. All those interested, follow this link: Beneath the Desert Sky

WARNING: The following RP is expected to contain copious amounts of swearing and graphic violence (and likely sexuality of some degree). If you are offended by any of this, now is your time to turn around. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's hot, ungodly so. The blazing sun bakes the desert sands, waves of heat blurring even the sharpest vision. A figure appears on the horizon line. At a distance, it's hard to tell whether the figure is man or beast, but it's moving forward. After 5 minutes, the figure begins to solidify in view, displaying discernible features now. Clearly a man, he appears to be a gunfighter or something, a rifle resting against his right shoulder and two pistols at his sides. His movement is slow, more trudging than walking. A tan hat rests low on the his head, shading electric blue eyes - the kind of eyes you can't ever forget once you've seen them, no matter how hard you try. Black leather chaps cover his dark blue jeans, and matching boots still hold spurs. A yellow bandanna protects his mouth and nose from inhaling the blowing sand. His shirt is a lighter blue than his pants, but denim, its sleeves buttoned over deerskin gloves. Tufts of black hair protrude from beneath the hat, matted and dirty, coated in the same heavy sand that weighs down his closes but appears absent from his weapons. His gun belt is black, with dual holsters and bullet loops all around. The holsters each hold Colt Single-Action Armies, and the gun on his shoulder is a '73 Winchester lever action. A knife sheath graces his lower right leg, its designing hinting at a large Bowie knife. As the man reaches the top of a dune, a smile lifts his stubble-covered cheeks, though it does not reach his eyes. Within sight is a town, its name unknown, but at least it's a town. He stops and pulls two sheets of paper from his front pocket. He unfolds both, one obviously a map. He stares intently at the map for a few minutes, looking around and glancing back at it, obviously guessing his bearings. Eventually, he folds the map and places it in his pocket, turning his attention to the second piece of paper. It has his picture, though much cleaner looking. It reads "Wanted. Known To Have Killed At Least 4 Men. REWARD - $5,000". He crumpled the paper and tossed it aside. "They don't know that in Lore." His voice is gruff, hardened, as though his throat has been burned from inhaling too much gunsmoke. And as he walks towards the town, his fingers resting upon his pistols, the smile reaches his eyes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Welcome to "Beneath the Desert Sky", my first attempt at an RP on OB. "Beneath the Desert Sky" is set in the American Old West, though I'm not looking for 100% historical accuracy. The year is 1878, and the action is focused in what is now Arizona. It's fairly empty, but a growing town called Lore is quickly becoming a pit stop for many heading further west, and some are deciding to stay. The man above is Clark Winslow. A rough and tumble gunfighter, Clark is wanted for the murder of 4 would-be lawmen in a Colorado town, preferably alive. The killings were in cold blood, with no gunfight, all 4 shot in the back. Who you are is up to you. Are you a resident of Lore (citizen, lawmaker, or business owner), a gunfighter after the bounty, or maybe an old enemy who wishes to settle their own score with Clark before the law does? Or are you an old affiliate, looking to hook up with Clark for a new round of trouble? Or are you something else, just happening to wander through the area? I have no intention of this RP being only about capturing Clark Winslow. It just seems a good place to start. Characters of all walks of life and personalities are welcome. Multiple characters are welcome and even encouraged (this is the Old West, some characters will likely die). I'm looking for some real good RPing, so I want a good bio, and here's the outline: Name: Gender: Age: Physical Description: I'm looking for at least a 5 sentence paragraph here. What does your character look like, what does s/he wear, does s/he have any scars or some noticeable trait like a limp? Make it good folks. Personality Description: Again, I'm looking for 4-5 sentences or more here. Biography: I'm expecting at least two paragraphs. What you want to focus on is up to you. How was your childhood, what have you done through your adult life, what made you decide to head west, etc? I repeat, AT LEAST two paragraphs. I will post a bio later (for both a character and Winslow).

You need to expand your John Wayne intake. Trust me, it will do you good. I'd recommend 'The Searchers', just off the top of my head. If you want something with a little fun to it, check out 'The Fighting Kentuckian'. I can probably point out a more expansive list later. The problem I worry about without a centralized location is too many characters too far apart. Even in a 'generalized' area out West, that's a lot of ground to cover. I'm afraid it would feel to artificial for characters to meet up regularly. Any suggestions for that, or is that pretty much something that'll have to be left to those who participate?
-
I'll have to fix that, I suppose. I know more John Wayne than Clint Eastwood. The only Man with No Name movie I've seen is 'For a Few Dollars More' (although I've probably seen that four or five times). The original idea in my head had indeed centered it around one town, like Deadwood, but your ideas have got all kinds of things running about my head at the moment.
-
Well, there would be an unlimited number of free slots, of course. The 'roles' would be more of the 'need this in this kind of town, so who wants to make a character to do it'. There would be no personalities assigned, or anything like that.
-
I can't decide if it'd be best to run one of these with a specific storyline in mind, or to make a list of character 'roles' to fill (saloon owner, sheriff, etc.), and have people design characters for that, or what. Any ideas other people may have are welcome too.

I took a pop at this just to screw around a little in Photoshop (I haven't touched Photoshop in a year +, but was bored). Nothing fancy, but I figured I'd post it here anyway. My girlfriend decided to give this a shot too, except she did a banner and an avi:

Funtime Thread of Humor and Mirth (and Junk.)
Kenso replied to The Spectacular Professor's topic in General Discussion
I'll have to rewatch it for that. No, I meant how it's on his right hand the first time they show it, and then it's on his left the second time (where it's supposed to be). EDIT: Actually, it's the Triforce of Wisdom that they show him having. On top of that, he's fighting right-handed (which I somehow missed the first time). Link is left-handed. -
I'm currently listening to the soundtrack for the musical 'Wicked'. ''Dear Old Shiz'' is playing right now. It's actually one of my least favorite songs on the soundtrack, but I don't bother to skip songs on soundtracks (especially not for musicals).

Did anyone else notice the Triforce hand inconsistency in the Zelda 'trailer'? It looked cool, but that jumped at me pretty quick. And speaking of fake trailers, here's a cool one. -
A word of advice for Sonic players. Master the dash-grab (or whatever it may actually be called). I know I'm always charging past people quite by accident, but if you react quick and try to grab them from behind, you can at least recover a little bit of time. The nice thing with dash-grabs is they have a little more reach than regular grabs.
-
I'm going with Rach on this one. It just seems rather silly to me, like some wild grasp for attention or something. No offense to anyone who does use it, but that's the vibe I get from it.
Favourite line of the whole thing:
Thank God, ‘cause one of them I swear was grabbing my ass.
In the context of all the seriousness of what was going on around Kensley, that was just so damn funny.
I'm throwing in a second vote on that. If I hadn't been so tired when I read this last night, I probably would've fallen off my chair laughing. Hell, I still might. I love the one-liners. You certainly have my attention.

Just had a random thought, so I thought I'd pop it up in here. Would anyone be interested in an Old West RP, along the lines of Deadwood? And, if so, would anyone be interested in helping run it? I've never actually run a single-thread RP, and am honestly not sure where to begin (or even if it's that different from a full-forum RP). I, personally, think it would be a lot of fun (or I wouldn't've posted this). And it has the potential for a lot of complicated storylines as people's lives (past and present) criss-cross, etc. Needless to say, it'd be the kind of RP that comes with a mature content warning, as you can never be certain what you'll run into here. If this is in wrong forum or something, sorry. Just do what you do. This is exactly the right forum for this thread, don't worry. - Sandy

Oddly enough, my April Fool's Day went entirely without practical jokes of any sort (aside from the one pulled on OB). I was smart enough to stay away from links. And what is this Caramelldansen thing that keeps getting brought up around here?

I Forgot What You People Look Like (Image Heavy)
Kenso replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in General Discussion
This pic is actually like a year and a half old, but it's fun, and I haven't really changed that much, so here goes. EDIT: This picture was actually taken at a little photo place in VA Beach (it's actually near the beach). I think it's called Olde Time Photos, or something like that. You can't miss it, one way or the other, and it's right by the beach (as in, it's like the first street next to the beach). It's really fun. They have all kinds of costumes and backgrounds to do. Another group did this family gangster pic at one of the other 'sets', and when we were leaving, somebody was getting ready to do a pirate thing. If you're ever in VA Beach, you should check it out. (And you can get full color photos. We just liked this effect.) On a random side note, my dad gets a kick out of this picture, because he says I look more comfortable/natural in this pciture than in any regular picture I've ever had taken of me. First things first. Damn you!! My freaking eyes hurt!! Moving on from that, very nice. Of course, I just had to read the entirety of all three topics, but it was well worth it. I almost feel sorry for Gavin though. Marrying Raiha just couldn't have been a good idea. He must've been drunk. EDIT: I only have one real complaint. All this new reading stuff in Anthology makes me wonder how in the name of Kossuth I'm RPing on the same site as you people.

~Friday Afternoon, an hour or so before school is letting out~ ~Drake Historan, Downtown Mt. Angelica, the mall A young man stepped gingerly from the tour bus, careful not to trip as other passengers tried to shove by. His dark hair was pulled back into a ponytail, a rubber band holding it in place. A pair of wrap around sunglasses sat on his nose, protecting his eyes from the otherwise harsh brightness. Today it was jeans and a t-shirt for him, his combat boots making surprisingly little noise as he walked. The jeans were torn in the right thigh and left knee, faded and worn with age. The t-shirt was as tight as possible, with a picture of something zombie-like that said "I'm out of bed and dressed, what more do you want?" The concept didn't fit him well, but he thought the shirt was funny. At his side was a relatively tall (at least for a girl) blonde, a bikini top and miniskirt showing off her rather impressive figure. She had a cell phone to her ear, and appeared to be chattering away rather incessantly with whoever was on the other end. The young man did not look happy. With a cheery and very teenager "Bye-bye!" the girl flipped the phone shut and stuck it in her purse. "So, Drake, what're we gonna do?" her voice was high and shrill, piercing Drake's eardrums with every syllable. He glanced sideways and glared before stopping dead. "We?" he started, his voice low and annoyed. "Girl, I don't know who you are or why you're bugging me, though I'm guessing it's to avoid parents, and we are certainly not doing anything. I am going to do some shopping. You can do whatever you want, as long as it doesn't involve me." With that, he turned and stormed away. Damned girls around here were always hanging on one guy or another, generally trying to make one jealous or some other thing out of a million different reasons, all equally stupid. He'd been stuck next to that one on the bus, and had endured her yammering and made polite conversation for nearly an hour. That happened a lot when you tried to be polite and sociable. Next time, he was looking for an old lady to sit next to. Drake headed for the music store. There was a new CD he wanted to pick up.

Not what I was expecting at all, but very nicely done all the same. Thanks.

Well, borrowing Debresko's breakdown, here goes. 1st tier: Pikachu, Shiek, Link, Toon Link Link is, for me, an old favorite. I've been playing him from the first go around, and since his moveset isn't going anywhere, he wasn't hard for me to pick up again (I play with a GC controller, so...). Oddly enough, I could not stand Pikachu in the first two SSB games. It's not that he's ever been a bad character, but I just didn't like him. However, I've learned that I underestimated his abilities quite a bit, and while I still can't use his Final Smash worth a damn, I love playing him. You'll notice that I have Shiek separate from Zelda. I can't play Zelda, period. If I have the opportunity to turn into Shiek, on the other hand, I'm much, much better. While not a powerhouse, some of Shiek's smashes are insane, and I have a thing for playing fast characters. Which brings me to Toon Link. Link, only faster but a little less powerful. While he took some time to get used to, I can probably use Toon Link BETTER than regular Link now. 2nd tier: Fox, Falco, Wolf, Samus, Pit, Metaknight See a bit of a pattern here? Everyone here is on this tier for the same reasons. A complete inability to master their specials. I suck at reflectors with the Star Fox charas, and I just keep forgetting Pit HAS a shield. Samus only barely stays out of Tier 1. I have a tendency of misjudging her range, and I haven't mastered ZS Samus yet. I love Metaknight, and I'm very good at staying alive with him. But I suck with his specials. Completely suck. 3rd tier: Mario, Kirby, Ike, Luigi, Captain Falcon, Marth, Ganondorf Most of this tier are the folks I have fun playing, but just don't play regularly enough to get very good with them. I'm alright with Ganondorf, but he's just too slow. I have the exact opposite problem with Capt. Falcon. I tend to overshoot and miss attacks with him (and I hate his Smashes - they're so slow). Mario and Luigi are all around fun (and have neat throws), but I've just never gotten really good with them. 4th tier: Bowser, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Peach, Ice Climbers, Wario, Lucas, King Dedede, Olimar, Ness, Jigglypuff, Mr. Game & Watch Aaah, the ones I can't play or don't like playing. If you haven't noticed, I don't play slow characters. I just can't get the hang of them. Peach is far too floaty, and I always screw up jumping with her because of that. I just don't like Mr. Game & Watch, even if some of his moves are amusing to watch. Characters that I suck with but want to learn better: Sonic, Zelda, Pokemon Trainer, Lucario, R.O.B., Diddy Kong Yes, I listed Zelda separately from Shiek. I can't play as Zelda. She's slow and floaty, although she has an awesome recovery move. But I need to learn to play her if I want to use Shiek. No point if you can't play both halves, you know? Sonic is just too crazy fast. I think I overshoot and miss more often than I hit. This is only gotten around by the fact that I'm good at using that speed to dodge. R.O.B. I just haven't gotten the hang of yet. He's a neat character, but I'm having issues learning to use him well. The others are more of a severe need to get used to. I'm good with Squirtle, but can't use Ivysaur or Charizard very well at all.
