Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread
TheShinje replied to Charles's topic in General Discussion
This so deserves an Otakupedia entry... Naps the Cat This article documents a current event Information may change rapidly as events progress Napoleon "Naps" the Cat (2007-2007) was an OtakuBoards personality notable for being the first registered cat in OB history. Naps gained instant fame after being banned following two posts consiting of nothing but meows and maws. He is perhaps better known for being banned than being a member. Charle's tribute to a true American legend. Legacy The banning of Naps came as a shock to many members of the boards, who rallied to support Naps' immediate reinstatement to OB, in a Suggestions & Feedback thread led by Shy. The complainants felt that the banning of Naps was the culmination of a series of over-modding incidents which had stripped the OB of any fun. Those wishing to reinstate Naps quoted the fact that threads about Pie and Caption Contests existed without problem, and that banning a cat that could only meow and maw was contradictory to those threads being allowed to run their due course. The complaint thread (not to be confused with "The Complaint" )was closed soon after and an official announcement followed, reminding OB members that it was quite alright to have fun, m'kay? Impact Some members of the Anti-Cat-Defamation-League were worried that this incident might sacre cats away from joining OB in the future. However, James has moved quickly to dispell this concern, stating that cats are welcome to join OB, just as long as they can be understood.
Croc Union Leader: Look, Bill, I don't care how much you try to tempt us - we're not going back in the water 'till you fix the damn filter! *one croc jumps in* Dammit Frank, you freakin' scab, stop undermining our position!
Congratulations Johnny. There's something about crocs and unions that just, well, go together. :p Hilarious stuff. Honourable mention to ChibiHorseWoman for her take on Jeb Bush and the capital punishment scene.

Welcome to the 6th round of the infamous OtakuBoard's caption contest. Here's the 411; A member posts a picture, then invites othe rmembers to caption it with something witty. After a day or two, the member who posted the picture will select a winner, who in turn will post up a picture of their own and judge the winner. Here is the first picture: Happy captioning. ^^

Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread
TheShinje replied to Charles's topic in General Discussion
Okay, here is my entry for Star Wars 411 Star Wars 411 Star Wars 411 is a thread published by Dragon Warrior, and dedicated to the discussion of all things Star Wars. It originally hit the boards in 2002, and continues to the present day. It is to this date, the longest running thread in Otakuboards history. The thread began its life quite simply, with the question "do you like Star Wars?" posed to the memberbase. The original post references another locked Star Wars topic before going on to say "All Star Wars, all the time!" Since it's opening, Star Wars 411 has gone from simple "yes, I like Star Wars" type replies to lenghty discussions and debate about all the Star Wars films, books, games, non-canon spinoffs and much, much more. The threads progression into more mature discussions mirrors that of the OtakuBoards as a whole, and is a perfect snapshot spanning many different versions and era of OtakuBoards. The threads popularity soared during and after the release of the last two prequel films, before dying off shortly after the release of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The thread remains dedicated to all things Star Wars and has been immortalised as *the* Star Wars thread in the Movies directory. Spin-Offs: Lord of the Rings 411: This thread was dedicated to all Lord of the Rings based discussions and was titled to reference Star Wars 411 and it's enduring popularity. However, it never became as popular as the Star Wars thread and died relatively quickly afterwards. One reason for this may be the compartiively limited scope for discussion, with little to no extra-canon of other materials to discuss aside from the first trilogy. The Amazing Race -411- Jeremiah (S@bretooth at the time) created this spin-off, intending that the thread would span all seasons of The Amazing Race reality show. However, the thread died quickly, with Reality TV Show threads not being particularly popular discussions. Pirates of the Carribean: The Tavern "The Tavern" is a current thread dedicated to discussion on all of the 3 Pirates of the Carribean films. While not exactly a spinoff in the titular sense (the title does not carry the singature 411 code) the basic premise of the thread is the same as Star Wars 411. -

Actually, there was a bit more work put into that than cropping. If you compare the background to your original image, you'll see that I completed the building to the left, so the background flowed. Anyway, no hard feelings. I would have picked jigglyness' too. -
Can I do #33 (citrus) please? I've got this neat idea that could be quite effective.

Art DW's Random Comic Strip Thread Extravaganza [PG]
TheShinje replied to Dragon Warrior's topic in Creative Works
I liked the graphical intensity of the Ruff Scallions, it looks really nice. I felt that Moneiur Mosquito was the best in terms of funny. I laughed the hardest readign that one, especially when Mosquito vomits, of all things, a cat? I enjoyed them both for various reasons, and they both deserve a follow up. The adventures of a drunk french mosquito could be quite endearing. -
My theme song is currently "Joyride" by Roxette, and if you know who they are, you are super-duper cool. The reason why it's my theme song? It's from the 90's and is a song about driving, which is an awesome track to have thumping away while driving to goodness knows where just for the hell of it. So you could also count in "Drive" by Incubus, to be more recent.

This thread is for all you motorist otakus out there to show off your ride, if you have any pride, in it. :) My car is a Mazda Familia Astina hatchback, year 1991. It's not a pimped out bling-mobile, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to get some accessories for it one day. It is a V6 Engine with manual transmission. This is all I know about it's specs since I'm not well versed in that area. Here are the pics:

1. Do You Eat Lunch? If so, how do you usually procure it? Ever since I joined the workforce, I have bought my lunch, which usually consists of nothing but junk like chocolate, potato chips, and the on-occasion orange cordial, where I mix two sachets in enough water for one. No wonder I am unhealthy. I'm going back to taking my lunch, like the old school days. It might be healthier for me. 2. What did you eat for lunch today? I plan on eating toast for lunch today. . Do you plan ahead for lunch on further days?[ Nope. I take whatever I live on impulse purchases. 4. Have you ever had a lunch date? How did it go? Nope. I'd expect it would have gone poorly. What I like to do with my girl makes lunch date pretty impractical. (for the record, this is not "in-the-gutter" stuff ;) )
You don't qualify fossils and bones as evidence of the life millions of years ago? I hope you aren't one of those scary people who believe dinosaurs are the government's invention to disproof creationism... :/
Rest assured, Sandy, I am not one of those scary people. I don't think the devil put them there to test our faith either. Dinosaurs were written about in the Bible. The temrinology might have changed throughout the years, but history is littered with cross-culture accounts \ of such creatures, like the Chinese Zodiac.
....The Chinese histories and legends abound with dinosaurs. But they are not called "dinosaurs." They are called "dragons." The dragon is one of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac. What is interesting is that all the other eleven are commonly known animals and there is no hint of 'mythology' involved with their identities. It seems as if the dragon was just a commonly known at one time. The pictures are often fantastical, but so are their stylized pictures of horses and other animals....

As Sandy mentioned, we do have fossil evidences that show gradual morphological changes that lead from an ancestor species to a new one. Roughly, species that exhibit traits from both the ancestor and new species are what we call transitional species(although, really, all species are transitional). Archeopteryx is one, the therapsid series is another. Also, for transitions at the the family-genus-species order, please look up the evolution of horses or giraffes; those are pretty popular examples too.
These fossils are not enough to prove beyond any reasonable doubt, that evolution did happen in fact. There is no complete set of transitional fossils that show the complete transition from one species to another. Fossils are not conclusive that these objects existed millions of years ago either. There exists a fossilised hat. The hat was fossilised onyl about 50 years ago, which lends ot the idea that fossilisation can be rapid in the right environment. If you're interested in the evolution of the horse, check out this alternative explanation There is plenty of counter-argument at CARM.org regarding evolution if you are interested in really putting evolution theory to the test.
Macro evolution is not a myth. It is an increasingly plausible, if not proven, theory. How this has become the great threat to religion seems amusing to me.
It is a thory that cannot be proven. To prove something scientifically, it needs to be observed, studied, if you will. Since no-one is going to be able to sit for millions of years and observe the evolutionary process, it will rmeain a theory. Just like creationism. No-one is going to be able to witness God creating the universe (or how he went about this spceifically.) In any case, I don't see macro-evolution as the great threat to religion. I just don't see any plausability in the idea. btw, that garfield GS banner of yours rocks.
Oh God (how fitting, hehe), I swear if I hear the pseudophrases microevolution and macroevolution one more time... Ok, there's no point in differentiating between the two freaking things because both are inherently the same. \
No. They are not one in the same. That is ludicrous. Macro-evolution is the scientific creation myth, it is the theory that, over millions, perhaps billions of years, we have mutated from a signle cell organism to the complex lifeforms we are today. Micro-evolution is the theory of adaptation. A bird in a certain climate where bugs or fruit are hard to get to will adapt to their enviornment by producing a longer beak. This theory can wrok with creationism, eg, God put the animals on the earth and gave them the mechanisms to change in an ever-changing world. The fact that micro-evolution alone can work with creationism should make the differences in such theories rather obvious.

There has been a lactose intolerance for more than two thousand years. Jewish people in their faith consider bovine-derived milk to be Kosher, it's hard to see them giving milk such status if it made them ill. As far as evolution goes, I reckon it's funny that examples of similarities between animals, like humans and chimpanzees, are produced as evidence of the evolutionary theory. To me, it simply looks like the work of a creator who is consistent with his design.

Yippie ki yay! I have just seen the trailer for this, the 4th installment of the Die Hard franchise, and boy, does it look sweet! This time, John McClane will be battling against terrorists who have in their possession EMP-based weapons, which render technology useless. Also seen in the trailer is the spectacular
demise of Capitol Hill, this CGI-laden scene alone makes the movie worth watching.
:animesmil Some of my friends beleive that it is a case of the fourth being one too many, but I reckon this oculd be one of the best Die Hard films in the series. I also like anything that has electro-magnetic pulse attacks as a main story arc, so I wont be dissapointed. Are you looking forward to Die Hard 4.0?

Okay Otakuites, time to throw on your nostalgia caps, take a trip dowm memory lane and remnisce about that time long, long ago called the 90's... The 90's were an awesome time, so here's a thread dedicated to the awesome fads and trends of the 90's. What made the 90's special for you? What kind of things did you get up to and enjoy during the last decade of the previous millennium? Here are the more memorable events, fads and trends that I think made the 90's awesome.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do The Bartman The Simpsons had become a household name by 1991, having successfully transferred the one minute Tracey Ullman show sketches into a half hour show unto it's own, it only made sense that a hit song sung by the Simpsons was released. So in 1991, Bart Simpson hijacks his schools recital and proceeds to "Do The Bsrtman." The video clip is awesome, with it's quick cuts and rappy pace. It is also interesting now as a time capsule look into early Simpsons animation. I didn't remember that Millhouse's hair was black before it was blue. Principal Skinner's Things I noticed now being an adult: Skinner and Krabappel drinking from a whiskey flask, the significance of which is only apparent to my mautre, older self. ;) Vanilla Ice with two awards he won with his uncompairable rhymin. Vanilla Ice Before there was Eminem, the was Ice Ice, baby. Vanilla Ice was the original white rapper, and he is infinetly cooler than that poser Eminem ever will be. If rhymin was a drug he would have sold it by the gram. Ice gained popularity with hits such as Ice, Ice Baby and the Ninja rap, before diving into obscurity, intentionally, of course. Basketball Trading Cards The NBA franchise had no relevance to New Zealand, none of the teams represented us, yet, the basketball trading cards hit our islands with a tremendous force, surpassing every kids desire to collect Rugby and League cards, and making Michael Jordan a househld name. half the world away. I never was that into them, but I did get a cool Chicago Bulls ringbinder. A yo-yo on steroids. Chatter rings were guaranteed to anoy someone no matter where you played them. It was cool to preform tricks such as walking the dog, steerign the wheel etc, while still keeping the five rigns spinning, and emitting the hissing sound they were synonymous for. Evantually, they were banned in schools, which helped their decline in popularity, they were replaced by.... this is the infamous Doc. The most sought-after cards were "hot" cards, which had a little black spot you applied heat to to reveal a hidden picture. They were awesome cards to collect and trafe until everyone had the whole set, then they released the lame space oddbodz collection, which were just re-hashes of the original cards depicting "space" verions of the original characters. Then came the super-lame hyperheadz, the series died after that. The ultimate card to get was the "hot" version of the Doc. Fever card (pictured above) If you got this card, you were it, the coolest, the ruler of all. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Heroes in a half shell, turtle power! The catchcry for a series that I was absolutely hooked into in the 90's. The Ninja Turtles were the coolest superheroes around, because they happened to be njna, and mutated turtle at the same time. their mentor, master Splinter was mutated into a giant rat, which is also cool. TMNT also had a cool cast of wacko villains, like BeBop and RockSteady, the Shredder, and Krang, a talking brain, who was arguably the coolest character in the series by virtue of being a talking brain. Cowabunga! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ah, for want of the good olde days. They were my 90's fads and memories, what's yours? Stretching the site's layout is bad. Please avoid doing so. - Desbreko

I reckon OB should veep the version number, as opposed to calling it OB Evolution. Think of the fun you can have when OtakuBoards: V8 rolls around...

I'd like to see a skin for the next generation OB that isn't blue! Blue has been done to death. A warm colour might be a welcome change. I like the gray/red skin for the last days of V6 as a possible colour theme for the next OB. I'd also like to see a forum dedicated to the discussion of beer and all things beery. Think of the discussions: Favourite beer, Wost beer, Beer that has the best looking label, easiest cap to unscrew, Lager Vs. Ale, Favoured beer to get wasted on, Favourite sock to store beer in...
