I like heavy socks that act as cushions for my feet. In my line of work where I am on my feet all day, I can't stand anything else. Thin socks don't do anything for me.
(Yes, I realise I probably released something unholy on OB by resurrecting this thread :( )
Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread
TheShinje replied to Charles's topic in General Discussion
Jeremiah, formerly known as Shinje, is a long-time member of OB who is almost universally overlooked. He originally came to OB as Ginyu_Frogz, a reference to Captain Ginyu becoming a frog in Dragonball Z, but he soon grew to actually hate the name. Without a name change option, he decided to leave. He then re-registered a new account in the V4 days under the name Saiyangohan2002. At first, he wanted the name GOHAN, but soon discovered there was already a well-established member called Gohan. He also found out that all caps were considered yelling, and his first choice for the new name, he feared, would have been considered a violation of the rules. He then used the name, Nuchlear, which was intentionally misspelled so he could get a Hotmail account without random numbers at the end. When he made the mistake of ?n00bifying? his name when the first official name change requests began, by choosing ?SunRiZe?, he abandoned the account altogether, which served a dual purpose in the ?Post Count? thread at the time, that of course being he didn?t care about post status of how many times he had posted. He then re-registered as ?s@bretooth?, continuing his trend of poor user names, but quickly settled into a pattern of ?Shinji? related names, which initially caused him no end of trouble, due to ?Shinji? being the name of one of the people who brought down version 2 of OtakuBoards. He spent a good portion of his early years at OB escaping this stigma. In 2007 he changed his name to Jeremiah to escape the original Shinji's shadow and better reflect his born-again christianity, continuing the trend of perennial name changes. Jeremiah insists that this time, the name will stick. Jeremiah has been a quiet contributor to OB, rarely embarking on anything large (and, sadly, when trying to, being ignored), and often being mistaken as new member. He changes his avatar and sig themes almost often as he changes his usernames, and references to obscure pop culture have almost become a trademark of his sig/av sets. Despite his lowkey presence, however, Jeremiah has always watched quietly from the sideline, and his in-depth Otakupedia articles about very early OB phenomena are testament to this. Jeremiah is from New Zealand and thus pretty awesome. Despite a raft of Shinji-related names, looks nothing like Shinji from Neon Genesis Evangelion. He professes a faith in born-again christianity and likes to let this show in the threads that he participates in. As a result, Jeremiah is most active in threads and discussions that allow for a degree of Christian apologetics. -
Are you kidding...? First off, there is nothing wrong with swearing. This cultural taboo on swearing that we have is hilarious - tell me, what's the difference between "Gosh, this darn thing is freaking annoying!" and "God! This damn thing is ****ing driving me crazy!". What's the difference? The words mean the exact same thing. This taboo is laughable. It's not the words, it's how their used - calling someone a ****** in an affectionate, personable way is worse then calling someone African American in a venemous way and then spitting on the ground? Yea, that makes sense...
I'm not even debating the morality of swearing. My point is these shows have shown a rapid decline in the usage of the f-bomb and they are better off without it. Don't be a jackanapes, it really is unflattering.
Secondly, shows like Lost and 24 and CSI and the like, as Dagger said, cannot swear. It's some crazy ******** about how parents like to overprotect their kids because, as everyone knows, the only way to save their souls from eternal damnation is to ensure that they never ever hear swear words... Making as much sense as always.
How does that make sense? The shows I'm talking about refrain from dropping the f-bomb, but they're hardly Rainbow Brite as a consequence. The shows are still not what I'd call childrens entertainment, so how does a lack of the over-used, done-to-death f-bomb really relate?
Man, you make no sense. Who cares what words they use? They mean the same thing! **** and damn and **** and ************ are no different then frigg and darn and poooooo and Alabaman, man, they mean the same thing. There is nothing wrong with swearing. I leave you with a quote:
Do I not make sense, or do you just not understand anything I'm saying? You've come at me for taking a moral high ground, when I have not. I'm merely saying that the lack of swearing in these new-crop shows is a breath of fresh air, and their popularity is testament to the fact that you don't need excessive expletives to make a good show. FCC intervention or whatever the cause, long may it continue.
In the end I agree, I don?t have a problem with swearing but I?ve seen far too many shows that depend on gore or swearing instead of genuine acting and a good script.[/b'] So it?s nice to see, even if they don?t have a choice, shows that have more work put into them instead of relying on swearing to provide impact or humor.
  In a nutshell, ditto.

As I flicked through my favourite new-crop television shows the other day, I noticed an awesome trend. It seems that none of them has harsh swearing.:excited: It looks like people have grown sick and tired of the big "f word" being bandied about everywhere, it's gotten old. Prison Break, a show about cons on the run, the most likely candidate for f-word-usage, doesn't even go there. If John Locke is frustrated with the Island on Lost, he doesn't go "hey, island, f-you!" Jack Bauser may raise his voice when interrogating the terrorists, biut has he ever said "tell me where the f-ing bomb is?" How do you feel about current producers and their lack of appetite for the big f? Personally, I couldn't be happier. the new crop shows are evidence that you don't need a liberal sloshing of f-words and other such assorted expletives to make something dramatic or funny. These shows are way better off fidning a new way to express frustration and such without resorting to the big f. It makes for a refreshing change. Because I'm absolutely sick of that f-ing word!

The only reason I haven't become OB famous (I'm famous in real life, by the way) is because I keep on changing my name. I've got too many members here that I admire on some level to mention them all, so here's a quick run down of some of the most memorable I have come across; DeadSeraphim - The Aussie dude who is the personification of coolness, be it his sharp, sarcastic replies or his l337 skills in coding and web design. Seraphim is always an interesting character on the OB and a great person to talk to. Serpahim is also the person I have had the most interaction with outside of OB, when I still used Aim to have chat-room chats with members. Desbreko - He's cool because he changes my name. Nifty, huh? Dagger. She's cool because she also changes my name. Nifty, huh? James - James has devoted quite alot of his time and resources into making the OB the place it is today, he is also a very down to earth, likeable guy, who hasn't developed a "god complex" as a result. Dragon Warrior - What can I say that hasn't been said? Dragon Warrior is the king of OB comedy, with his animated adventures and story fanfics being insanely popular. My own attempts to follow in his footsteps failed miserably, which goes to show you that to be a Dragon Warrior, you have to have at least some talent!
He doesn't have the right to proclaim such things
What about the right to freedom of speech and expression?
wheres this Christian belief in equality when this man is just saying that other religions are forms of the occult he deserves to be stripped of his title and i am sure any Australian would think the same.
There is no belief in equality that strethes further than we are all human and have all sinned. The Christian view is that we're saved by the grace of God when we accept Jesus into our lives, those who don't aren't. We are not equal in that sense whatsoever. By the way, I should make it clear that I don't agree with every view he has expressed. The whole "rock music is the devils music" thing is something the contemporaryt church has moved to distance itself from.
I'm sorry if i offended you this forum is only for peoples views[/b'] and if you have come here to challenge other people and their views that is not the reason. I have made this thread for people to share their views so if you have taken offense i recommend not reading or posting more but its up to you. :animesmil
You haven't offended me at all. I'm just pointing out the fact that Christian preachers don't use their profile for personal gain (though there may be a few corrupted ones) and that you don't know for sure that this guy has wielded his influence for personal gain, it's all purely speculative and unless you have some form of proof that this is the case, you're just slandering his name. I'm challenging these views because they're unfactual. You have no proof he uses people for gain and makes millions doing what he does yet yu splash these things around like they're facts. Furthermore you're despising of him seems to stem from these accusations so I'm letting you know that this actually may not be the case. You didn't expect to create a thread without a dissenting opinion, did you?
Not that father Bob im talking about the American one whose exorcised John Safran on the last ep. I LOVE FATHER BOB from St Kilda he is soooooo funny and he doesn't care for the people who dont want to listen and he only preaches to those who want to listen he doesnt force his beliefs on anyone not like this American dude. wtf
Where did Bob Larson from America force his beleifs onto anyone? John Safran contacted him for his show. This seems to be based on his touring Australia, since when was touring another country with a concert you can decide to go to or not, forcing any beleif on anybody?
I have no idea who this guy is but ya I have no doubt he is rich[/b']. I think its all an act really, I don't think they perform actual miracles or anything like that.
What leads you to this conclusion given you have no idea who he is?
P.S :animeswea I am not trying to have a go at Christians or any religion its just i think people are going too far when it means they are using people in emotional states and often have been for years to prove they have powers its just using people to gain.
Youre logic fails you, because if you knew anything about Christian preachers, you'd know that they preach the gospel and attribute the supernatural healing and gifts you see on stage to God, not themselves. I'd love to know how he has used people for gain, since he attributes the divine to God and there's no evidence he has lined his pockets immensely from doing this.
Extremists are, by design, nutters.
Um, I have a question. If something happened to theO (may God forbid), how much of it would affect OB and myO? I understand that the sites aren't as close to eachother as it once was, but the sites are still connected to eachother. For example, you need a myO account to be able to launch the JukeBox here on OB.
My understanding is that the network is pretty safe. AnimeFF don't have grounds for defamation and all legal action would do is expose their own illegal activities. AnimeFF woukd be shooting themselves in the foot trying to go against TheO and it's reporting of the convention. I don't go to TheOtaku anymore since my interest for Anime has diminished in they years I've been here, but I will keep up with Adam's expose of AnimeFF and offer the network my support in any way I can.
Their lamest excuse was that "It had batteries, and wires." WIRES for God's sake! I sure as hell hope no Bostonian opens up their computer or they might think it's a bomb, in fact, I hope none of them open up ANY electrical device, since they will see WIRES.
It's not lame when you think about it. Terrorists looking to threaten American interests are trying interesting things to get around security failsafes, remember the airliner alert last year, where the extremists tried to use a liquid compund remote detonated by something innocent like an mp3 player? It's not above them to disguise their bombs as a Shake flipping the bird. The authorities were absolutely justified in the action they took and shame on Turner Broadcasting for not letting the city know what they were doing with these lite brites.

Has anbyone else on OtakuBoards checked this band out? I saw them live at the Parachute music festival and these guys rock. I'd say that Day of Fire are the best Christian hard rock band that I've ever heard. The lead singer is Josh Brown, he used to be the frontman for a band called Full Devil Jacket before he became a Christian and formed Day of Fire, and his testimony is simply amazing. It makes the lyrics of Day's songs all the more singificant and awesome because you know where they have come from. I have the 2004 debut album, which I highly reccomend, and I am getting "Cut $ Move" tomorrow, which is also a rather good album based on what songs I've heard from it live. If you register with Day's mailing list, you can hear the title track from the second album, which is a good indication of the style and substance that make Day of Fire one of the best bands out there in both the Christian and the secular music world. If you're into them, what do you think? If you've never heard of them, download the track and give them a go. Trust me, you wont be dissapointed. Check out the wikipedia article too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_Fire
I wouldn't think so, I always found Magneto to be better done than the other characters in the movies, I personally believe his prequel will be better than Wolverines which would be just a pure geek out.
Oh yeah. A Magneto prequel would rule 100 times over Wolverines. I have always found Magneto's backstory far mnore interesting that Wolverine's contrived "Weapon X" past. Magneto is such an interesting character too. It would be cool to see Magneto's past, his survival of the Nazi death camps and his anguish at not advancing his power enough to take his captors on (Magneto in his prime would lay waste to the Nazi's) It would all make for an emotion packed and awesome movie experience. I'm indifferent to the Wolverine film.

When looking at this picture, one might be tempted to jump to the assumption that, amongst other things, John Kofi was a brilliant accordion pianist who developed a strong emotional bond with his instrument. However, reality paints a picture of pain, loss and sadness accentuated by it's melancholy grayscale delivery. This man grieves for the loss of, we can assume, someone special. Perhaps he is in the middle of a stirring obituary to his beloved, one that cuts right to the soul. The accordion is also a Grand Granola, one of the most expensive ever manufactured. It is billed as the only accordion to not have a hokey carnival atmosphere about music produced on it, so obviously, this guy has class. Whoever this guy lost, must have been really really special.

I only watch Idol when it's in it's beginning stages and then I'm only watching to see Simon hand out the harsh crit to those who can't sing. The there are the ridiculously stupid auditions that make you wonder if the auditionees are just trying to get on television. Who seriously thinks they can win the comp dressed as a cow? Our New Zealand show sucks by comparison, althought I believe it's more a case of brain-dead voters than lack of talent ora poison-tongued Simon. Our Idols are forgettable and seem to have only got there in order to contradict the judges. Thus, our Idol this year dodn't even get a recording contract, because the producers know the public don't even give a hoot about supporting their "idol" after the shows ended.
Great post, Fasteriskhead. It's also worth noting that the concept of homosexuality as we understand it only crystallized during the past century. The word itself wasn't even coined until around 1892. We ought to tread carefully when applying contemporary ideas of sexual orientation to passages written way back whenever. Whatever Paul was talking about, it wasn't what springs to mind when we think of homosexuality. And not just that, of course--our ideas of romance, love and even heterosexuality are utterly modern. ~Dagger~
Dagger, while "homosexuality" as a word might be relatively modern, the Bible is clear in it's descriptions of such acts. From leviticus' "Man should nto lie with anothe rman" to the Sodom account in Genesis (the men wanted to have sex with the visitors, who were men.) Fasteriskhead has given me some excellent points to mull over. It's a good, solid argument. I'll think and pray over that one.

Marilyn Manson covered You Spin Me Right Round? God help us all... I, having gone through a covers phase, have amassed quite a collection of good cover songs. Korn do an amazing cover of Anothe rBrick in the Wall (pt. 1,2,3) and the two Distrubed covers, Land of Confusion and Shout 2000 are awesome tracks as well. But I'd have to say that, if you really enjoy your cover songs, you might want to check out Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.
You forget that while Jesus knows all, He also forgives anyone, for any transgression - homo sexuality included (despite the fact there's nothing in New Testament proclaiming it a sin, only antiquated documents in Old Testament that are left over from Laws of Judean temples). If you say there's no place for homo sexuality in the church you're denying those people forgiveness, and by extension denying them God. Honestly, a gay Christian isn't looking to shake the church from the foundations - they're there for the same reasons you are, forgiveness from and love of Jesus Christ. All the gay marriage stuff boils down to homo sexuals wanting their relationships regognised by government, and being extended the same rights as a straight couple, not to destroy the Church from the inside out. Don't be so intolerant.[/color']
While Jesus forgives any sin besides blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, he does require that you turn from that sin as well. When Jesus sets someone free from their sin, like the prostitute the pharisees were going to stone, he instructed them to "go and sin no more"
Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn't worship him as God, or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. The result was that their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they became utter fools instead. And instead of worshipping the ever-living God, they worshipped idols made to look like mere people, or birds and animals and snakes. So God let them go ahead and do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degradin g things with each others bodies. Instead of beleiving what they knew was the truth about God, they deliberately chose to believe lies. So they worshipped the things God made but not the creator himself, who is to be praised forever. Amen. That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relationships with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men and, as a result, suffered within themselves the penalty they so richly deserved.
Paul is clearly teaching that homosexuality is a brokenness that God wants us desperately to get free from via a relationship with him. (agape, of course!) So it makes no sense to proclaim a Christian faith and divulge in something the Bible describes as nothing short of a shameful brokenness. The awesome thing here is, you can be, with a bit of dedication, freed from this brokenness by the grace of God. I know this because I have been there. I have overcome this very brokenness, and I can tell you, the end result of giving my ungodly desires away is much better than the end result of "God should just accept me for who I am." Going back earlier in that quote, it tells us that those more likely to fall into the trap of homosexuality are inclined to be those who "worship the creation, not the creator." Interesting to note that the churches struggling with homosexuality in various forms are the churches that pepper their walls with iconography and statues. Those who want to practice/support homosexuality and remain Christian despite the Biblical passages warning against it should form their own church and look to achieve their religious expressions that way. Established churches are set upon a foundation of beleif that the faithful subscribe to. Going in and pushing for reform like that is like me going to a mosque and declaring that I want to see all the women remove the burqa before I kneel before Allah.
The Christian ideology, in vehemently denying homosexuals the rights associated with a civil union, keeps those homosexuals from accepting God, damning them to death, when otherwise it could relent, allowing those homosexuals to come to God and making available to them the path to salvation.
It is not. Part of actually coming to God is recognising you have sinned, and turning from that sin, to follow God and his plan for you. It must also be stated that, he made you, he knows whats best for you, and that's why there are restrictions on what you can and cannot do. It's like a child who wants to eat sweets all the time. The kids parents know that giving the child sweets all the time will be a precursor to diabetes and/or obesity. The child knows nothing of that and thinks of the parent as being mean for not allowing he/she to take the sweets. Same with God. God knows that homosexuality is bad for us, so he does not allow us to engage in such. We think God is being unreasonable but in the end, he knows what is best for us. In the end, when the child grows up, she will thank the parents for placing restrictions on the sweets and looking out for his/her health. This is not a comment on the world and gay marriage, but why I see it as having no place in the Church. I feel that those who want to come in and change everything should found their own church based on what they beleive rather than try and change the foundations of the institution to fit themselves. Forcing change on the church is another form of intolerance in itself.
A side effect of the treatment is that she has become the perfect sexual object for a pedophile's attentions. Oh please God, let me be horribly wrong. Excuse me while I go vomit (not really, but almost).
There would still be some trace of sexual assault if, God forbid, that ever happened. There are ways of finding out about these things other than an unexpected baby bump.

The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty of 2006 (Nominations Thread)
TheShinje replied to Shy's topic in General Discussion
Rachmanioff Rachmanioff is nifty because, as a relatively new member here, his well though out posts and mature demeanour set him apart as an example for all newer members to follow. Plus, he chose one awesome screenname and shows a devotion to music in his sig and avatar that rivals Aaryanna's devotion to Bichon Frises. 6 Degrees of Wikipedia The most original game thread I've seen on the board. Although I was a bit to busy to go flitting through Wiki links to solve the clues, I enjoyed reading the results and the links that liked two totally different ideas together. Thus, it is nifty. Shinje Shinje is nifty because he is the second most ignored person on the OtakuBoards (couldn't event get the most ignored title....curses, Mr. Maul!) and despite his RPG attempts failing at every turn, his only success being the creation of two sequels to a RPG created by another member, Shinje has stuck with the OB, though nowadays he prefers to mull about the Otaku Arts & Entertainment exclusively, and nominate himself for awards. Shinje has decided this course of action might suit him better this Nifty Fifty than last years attempt to threaten dogs with certain death. Shinje figures if it's good for charles, it's good for his non-equivalent. -
Even with the edit, your point still makes no sense. So, what, they might be able to undo whatever keeps Ashley at 3-months mentally... can you guarantee when that'll happen? Can you even guarantee that she'll even be able to undergo the procedure as she gets older? I mean, ****, her brain has been static for over 8 years - just being static could cause irreparable damage, eg: development that should've happened mightn't have, connections a brain makes as it develops wouldn't exist. At such a late stage, can you really say her condition is reversible, especially with your presumably limited knowledge of the brain?
Of course I can't guarantee that there will definately be a way to cure this in the future, but there is still the chance that modern medicine may advance to the point where it can do amazing things to advance the lives of those born with such debilitating defects. If it was my son/daughter, I'm sure I would rather risk that possibility than stunting his/her growth and regretting it further down the track if/when some kind of cure becomes possible. Can you guarantee that it won't?
For all of you you have faith in the scientists' and doctors' "diagnosis" of the girl NEVER being able to develop, I hope that you understand one thing. Science always has been, is, and always will be FALLIBLE.
I agree. A thousand years ago they would have had you on a course of "blodletting" for a headache! Science and medicine is constantly evolving and being refined. Diseases once thought to be uncurable can be prevented althogether with a small prick, or series of pricks. Stem cell research is in it's infancy. It's beginning to cure smaller things like small brain abnormalities, paralysis and damaged hearts, but who's to say it won't get more advanced as time goes on? Who's to say that it can't happen? It is playing Russian roulette because you can't say for certain wether or not science will be able to bring this girld the quality of life she deserves. Either way you go, stunting the growth or letting her grow, you're taking a gamble on the future.
She's not a 3 month old. She has the physical body of a 9 year old girl, but the mind of a 3 month old. Why isn't anyone reading the actual article before posting?[/color']
I did read the article, about a week ago. This point must have slipped my mind and a re-read could have been in order.
