1. It was more to do with the fact that most of Ireland at the time was into farming potatoes, when the blight struck, these people lost their homes and source of income, therefore, they starved.
2. "Drawn out" is my favourite so far, because it looks like my comic drawing style, and it feels like a dig at my attempts to put together a "slacks"type comic on my MyOtaku. It feels good to at least pretend to be satirized. :p
3. "It was at this precise moment, that our hapless surfer realised the surf was so violent, it would rip his trunks clean off of him, making for quite the embarrassing moment in front of all the beachgoers."
4. It's that time of year again.... Time for Australia, New Zealand, and South African rugby unions to prove their worthiness in the Super 14, the best rugby comeptition in the world. Seriously. :p My Home team is none other than the formidable Canterbury Crusaders, who dominated 5 out of 10 years of competition when it was Super 12, and will do so again, mark my words! The
Crusaders picked up a vital win in their first round against the Highlanders and secured a bonus point this evening, so, woohoo! *does secret dance of the l337*
Anyway, who else watches the Super 14? What's your representational side, and do they hold a chance of destroying my lofty dream of the Crusaders taking home another "Super" title? Go the Crusaders!
5. Even though you can change the dns server to whatever, that's a hell of a lot of work for such little payoff. In fact, the only payoff that would eventuate is the change from .com to .elf, and the loss of the memberbase who would be wondering where Otakuboards.com went. OtakuBoards would then degenerate into a hub for endless discussion about wands and elves. heck, in that case, why stop there? Why not change the name of the boards to elvenwandboards.elf?
6. NO WAI!!1!1 So, you would eliminate free speech because you're sick of people complaining they're offended? Sorry, but that comes with the territory that is freedom of speech. You're within your right to say whatever you want, and they're withint heir right to protest what you say, and call you out on it, or simply complain. You're never going to get rid of that, so why worry? Why let dissenting opinion get you so riled that you want to eliminate the freedom of speech altogether because some ninny got his/her panties in a bunch? Ziggy is spot on in regards to this, the only way you're ever going to be able to go through life without offending soembody is to have all forms of communication erased. Colitary existence. w007! Freedom of speech works both ways, you see. :animesigh
7.
MOUNTAIN LION? It's a little small to be so, huh? :animeswea
It's called perspective, objects in the background may appear smaller than they actually are. anyway.... Turkey: Behold, I am the Turkey Genie of Allinmballipoop, I have come to grant you 3 wishes! How do you find that? Lion: Lets see, I wish to be magically transported from this cage, have a solar panel oven, and the answer to your question, I find this opportunity simply impeccable...
8. I know, I know. I've just got such a "Wiggle you big toe joke" fetish. :p Or perhaps, I was in agreeance with you notion? Either way, I've edited for clarity. No need to get yer panties in a bunch. ^_^;
9.
Supposedly some Asian director was recently arrested for offering to have sex with a police officer for money. First foot fetishes, now prostitution! Man, these directors are seriously breaking down the moral backbone of the US. Someone should stop them...
Lee Tamahori? He's a Kiwi director actually. Directed Die Another Day of all things. I know exactly what to make of this. "Meh, whatever turns you on man." Same goes with Tarantino's foot fetish. Though, *cough* In agreeance with Swedish Chef *cough* at least we now know why there was such a big "wiggle your toe" scene in Kill Bill. :p
10. Much appreciated. The primary focus of getting the link back up was the OB to MyO link, so now that it's working, I'm happy. If you can get the MyO to OB link to work as well, that's just be fantastic, icing on the cake. I'm not too worried about it though. Thanks again to all helpers and prob. solvers.
11. It's still coming up with the error, unfortunately, who are the MyOtaku admins?
12. well, the GTA series has got to the point where all it really can do is add more stuff, polish up the graphics, and lengthen the game time, so there really isn't any room for innovation other than making the experience bigger and sleeker. They did that with San Andres where we got the inproved car physics, the ovewrhauled GUI and the much, much bigge rmap with the nifty addition of swimming etc etc... There won't be as big an innovation as there was jumping form 2D to 3D for a while. Dare I say it, the next big 'innovation' will be the franchise's move into real-time graphics, or the PS3 version will the next big jump as was their PS2 move.
13. Mother, pull your head from your own ***, take a step back, and really look at what's being said here. Is anybody mocking the religion? no, they're calling out what the rioters are doing as absurd and ridiculous, which, by the way...
Yes I agree that this embassy-attacking is way out of line, and I'm all for holding an AK-47 to their damn heads and giving them hell.
Is what you seem to be agreeing with, quite, um, enthusistically. :animestun
According to you, some "petty" people want to boycott a country? Well, guess what, idiot? They have the right to do it.[/i'] If those idiots in the Danish newspaper claim "freedom of speech", then the Middle East can claim "freedom of expression". And there ain't jack **** you can do about it.
Just like I have a right to call them out on how petty, childish and blatantly immature it is to boycott a country that didn't endorse the cartoons in itself. Like I said, the real targets of the boycotts and the complaints (not bombings and burnings, for goodness sake!) should be the newspaper itself.
14. Horgh: I swear to god Abbath, if you pull that Michael Jackson nutgrab move again, you are soooo out.
15. At first I thought this might have been a thread about some deep rift within the community. Interesting, most interesting. I don't fimnd OB elitist at all, the thing is though, you have to be able to string a few sentences together coherently to succeed here. Obviously some people have difficulty with that and this is not their place. I, like others who post here, like to see some structure and thought put into what is written, it isn't that hard and the user at the other end more often than not "gets" what you say. I'd rather view responses like the ones seen in this thread as opposed to "heh, I agree :p ;):animesigh:animeblus:catgirl::mad::mad::rolleyes:!!1"
Lord Dante I find it amusing in a thread about quality of the forums you misspell boards even when it is listed in the title bar of every page! ^_^
Knowing how to spell something doesn't mean that you're immune from the curse of the "typo." :p And now to cloes off this thread the same way as Charles, because he's cool, you know. [/thread]
16.
To Rapture Ruckus/Lord Rannos: You're American, right? Well, I'm Muslim. American, too. Now, as far as I can tell, in our country, no one just goes around painting pictures of Jesus on crack? Why? Because its inappropriate? Because the majority of America is Christian? Becuase it's just plain immature and stupid? All those reasons.
I'm actually from New Zealand. So, they may not paint Jesus on crack, there are certainly artists who would slander his name though, ever heard of Marilyn Manson? Well, he's an American who slanders Christ, shock horror! The majority of America may be Christian, that doesn't mean there isn't a minority there that speaks out against it and/or blasphemes the hell out of it once in a while.
No one is going to appreciate a stupid stunt like what the newspaper did. It's as if they did it just to piss people off. Which they did. And what the hell do you know about the Middle East? Don't go labeling it as petty and childish. You don't live there. I do. Here, religion is a large part of everyday life.
Let's get a couple of things clear here, 1) I did not appreciate the cartoons and it's views, and 2) I don't find them funny or amicable at all. I, however, find the actions of the leaders of these certain middle eastern countries childish and petty, we're talking governments here, who would remove themselves from diplomacy with another country, because of a cartoon that did not originate fromt he government itself and realistically, could have surfaced anywhere. It's like the Anglican Church withdrawing from America because the Simpsons cartoon regularly shows Homer being bored to death by their religion in a number of episodes. American itself is not to blame, yet those who would disagree with the views of the cartoon are thrown in the same basket as those who penned it, not childish?
If the Danish newspaper is "within its rights" to print stupid ****, then the Middle East is "within its rights" to boycott the hell out of the Danish, even if it isn't the best solution. I'd like to see the actions performed by Christians when some prints some crap proclaiming Jesus was gay, or something like that.
Corpus Christi? I'm familiar with gay Jesus publications and the movement to make a movie of it, I've seen the backlash to it from the religious leaders and it's very different to what's going on here. The action groups are calling out the perpetrators, not the government in itself. (with the exception of fundies like Pat Robertson, who'd probably want to shoot Hugo Chavez for it.) The response for the most part was metered out to those responsible. In this case, the newspaper and cartoonists themselves should have been at the centre of the furore, boycotts and whatnot, not the government of Denmark in itself. I can understand venting anger and frustration out about a joke in poor taste, and I do think this cartoon was in poor taste, as I've already pointed out. Freedom of the press means there is no state involvement in what can be published, how then, can you blame the government for the slight when the slight was not theirs to begin with. How is that not childish an petty? I think I'm worldy enough to draw to that conclusion.
17. Since the country has total freedom of the press, there will be opposing views aired through it and yes, even the odd un-pc cartoon. As far as I can tell, nobody is forcing Muslims to hold up this paper, flick to the 'toons, and watch their leader get lampooned. There's a simple addage for every day life that comes in very handy, and that is, if you don't like it, don't watch/view it. It's simple. The Middle Eastern states that are pulling out their ambassadors are being petty and childish. I mean, seriously, they're straining relations with a country over a newspaper's cartoon, where's the grip on reality here?
The newspaper has already apologized deeply to those of the Islamic faith, but the PM (I think it's a PM) of Denmark has yet to say anything, or apologize to Muslims, or the countries in the middle east. Because, of course he was elected based on his anti-Muslim sentiments. -___-;
Just how is this the Prime Minister's fault? Why should the country be penalised with ministerial withdraws when it was the choice of a newspaper editor to run the cartoon? Why go down that route at all? The newspaper has apologised, as far as I'm concerned, the newspaper is the only ones that need apologise, for it was their decision and action. No doubt the cartoon is in bad taste, but with a country that has freedom of the press on the scale of Denmark, you're going to get a few toes trodden onm you're going to get people offened. The best way to deal with an offense that has slighted you is to take a deep breath, step back, and remove the offending cartoon from sight.
18. I am somewhere along the middle, I like the song to be a rock or rap/rock type, yet I also like my music to have a strong messgage that I agree with/. And then again, I like a lot of easy listening stuff too, simply because of it's lyrical content, I'd suffice to say that I'm happy with all kinds of music, depends on my mood and what message it conveys, but I would prefer rock and rap/rock to any other genre.
19.
Honestly, my first thought was for an invisible notebook. What's the point of an invisible notebook? There is no point. It would just sit there and be invisible. But, I would have an invisible notebook. Ha!
I have an invisible notebook that is sitting here doing nothing, I won it on Ebay. I thought it would make a nice conversation piece if my friends saw it, but turns out since they can't see it, that idea is pretty much mooted. Would you like me to send it to you? I also have invisible packing and invisible stamps, though that could cause some problems with the courier.
20. Interesting, most interesting. I have just finished reading through them all, what a great series thus far! If I was to pick out a favourite, I'd have to say that the Sun contemplating it's meaning to the earth was classic, but they're all really good. You never cease to consistently pull out great laughs, do you DW? ;)
21. My latest name comes from a Wellington, NZ rap/rock group called Rapture Ruckus that I saw at the Parachute music Festival in the twilight of this month. I though, "Interesting, most interesting, that name is" and adopted it as my new username. I'm like, so totally over Evangelion right now.
22. Greetings. I am having problems with linking my ne MyOtaku to my OtakuBoards account, whenever I try to link them up there is a message that pops up telling me that there has been an error and I should contact the administrator. Is there any way to rectify this? I though maybe if the old MyOtaku link in my OB profile was somehow flushed, that it coudl work, unfortunately, I can't seem to erase it. :/ Thanks for your time. -R.R
23. Interesting, most interesting. We are int he middle of our summer right now, and it's a scorching 89 degrees! (Incredible number that aye, thought I'd convert our celsius temperature to the Fahrenheit one for the majority of our American audiences :D) I love summer, it's just a nice time of the year and as a plus, I get to go swimming more often, and get a suntan. My favourite rock concert, Parachute, is also held in the Summer time. Summer like, totally pwnzorz Winter.
24.
While I am glad that Disney was able to salvage its relationship with Pixar, and I do think that Pixar has produced some of the best animated films in the past decade, I almost feel like we're saying goodbye to the what was the Walt Disney Company.
I'm not that glad that Pixar made up with Disney, I was hoping to see Pixar work with some other studios and seeing what they could come up with. I still like the look of the classic 2-D films, I really thought that the style had years of life left in it, it's not like it was going radically out of fashion more than it was lacking decent plots.
25. Thanks, Des, that makes things a lot easier.
Have fun dredging up the past, however noobish it may be.
n07 n00bi5h!!1!!1!1! :p
