1. I was confused too, until I hit the refresh button, lol. Good job with the halloween theme, it's dark and creepy, simple and stylish. The replacement names for the forums are hilarious too. In fact, I like these forum names better, can we keep them? :p
2. Few steps... Find a picture you'd like to be your wallpaper and host it, take note of the url. Next, go to the edit styles panel, and find the part where it says background url, put the url of your background in the form box next to it. You're done, if you want to make the sidebar or other objects transparent so you can see it, use the color value #XXXXXX to do this. Hint: If you're going to do that, use a pic that doesn't obscure the text because you'll make your site ugly. ;)
3. I disagree with the Simpsons, I have watched that show since the beginning, and I don't think it's losing it at all. It's merely moving from one angle of comedy to another. There's way more slapstick and dumb humor there for sure, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Simpsons, like Family Guy, is a great show to just vege on. Besides, I would like to see this show go on to become the longest scripted series ever made, it doesn't have that many seasons to go to get there, or at least make it to the 20 year mark. On another note, I recently found a renegade tape that had fallen behind the couch some decades ago, It has a episode of Tracey Ullman on it with a simpsons short. It was very interesting to see. ^_^;
4. I had a little go with it, what do you think?
5. Nice intro image, shy, It takes you back some, very Bosko-ish. ^_~ Here is my latest image that I've been working on to blend better with my current theme colours.... I didn't actually have a central focus this time, choosing abstract over characters.
6.
On another note, I feel praying for a non-Christian, or ex-Christian to '(re)find their faith' is one of the ruder things you can do, especially if you tell them as much. It's about the same as saying "Hey, I think you're wrong, so I'm going to ask my God - who's right, mind, like you aren't - to make you see my way. Kthxbye." Or something like that. That thought isn't particularly well composed, but yeah. It shows a lack of respect for their views, and I really dislike people who do it. [.quote] I don't necessarily agree with praying for those who have lost faith to re-find it specifically, but I do like to pray for people and their lives, for God to be with them and strengthern them , particularly if they are in a rotten situation. I like to see God moving in peoples lives. I only pray for those who say yes to my request to pray for them. I feel it's a waste of time to pray for those who will not want it/think nothing of it. On the subject of religion beign somewhat cracked, I see where you are coming from, I found religion didn't really suit my views either, however, many churches of the protestan swing have more of a faith thing going rather than a religious order. Maybe you oughta try 'em out before dismissing Christianity all together. There are many facets of our beliefs.
7. I would have to say, Initial D. Initial D is good, it's a car racer anime that looks good and has a great storyline. I especially like the way they fused 2d animation for the characters with the 3d for all the racing action. I've not watched much AS apart from Initial D and maybe a little bit of Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C, so I'm sticking with "The D"
8. Most of your images don't seem to be working for me, James. Anyway, here are my MyOtaku intros... This one was briefly touched upon with my other post here, but this is how the final product actualyl turned out. I made this Apocalypse Now! Theme, as my second, to test out the Apocalypse Now! font by Jay R. Zay of Dafont.com. I made this theme to coincide withthte new year, i always make a theme to kickstart the new year, as you can see in my first post here witht hte 2004 one. It is the finalised version of my last post's 'sneak peek' teal and purple theme. My projects have a tendency to vary immensley from the beta to the finished product. This was for a theme based on the movie Duel that I watched just prior to changing themes, i thought the movie was good enough to be my next theme, so I made an intro based loosely on the DVD cover/ Poster. I desaturated the image to dull it out since I was using a very grey color scheme. This theme was based around Paracute '05, a Christian music festival. Failing to fidnt he Parachute '05 font, I used Brush Script MT instead. I decided to do an Evangelion theme while keeping the grey-ish look of My MyO. I took a stock image of Asuka and grayscaled it. After I made this theme, i decided it was too gray, so I made the text, and the site border, red. I never liked the way the text stood out, it's too blocky for my liking. The Herbie theme was one I put the most effort into, and the one I dislike most of all. I felt that the theme never met my expectations, and failed to deliver. After this theme, I decided to stop updating MyOtaku for various reasons, I took down all the imagery, never to return to MyOtaku or OtakuBoards again, funny how things work out... Five months later, here I am, I used a reduxed version of my Asuka theme to kick off a new era. This iteration of that theme didn't last very long, but I was much more satisfied with the text, it wasn't obtrusive to the image, and didnt detract from the theme.. After that, I decided to totally redo the intro to incorporate a new technique of mine, desaturating the background to draw attention to the subject, after I couldn't find the same image used for the old Asuka theme, I settled on a new image of Asuka in a different setting. I used a pink and black candice text to make it fit more closely with my flavours of the week colors, pink and black. I also used a pink border to blend the image more seemlessly. I'm currently working on a new intro for the pink and black theme since I still don't think this image suits it very well.
9. Naruto quickly discovers that, an anime hero can never just have a relaxing day at the beach.
10. No worries,if the genral consensus is that it's unfair (thought it might be) Ii'll just wait until the next OBGT then. Just for fun, here's what my entry would have been, I would have gone with an engrish angle...
11. Interesting.... Dagger, since Deucalion is dropping out, would it be possible for me to take his place? I'm just asking because I have a good Idea for a language barrier submission, and I am gutted that I missed the signups. I understand if you don't think it would be right, but it does give an alternative to the 'default scenario'.... the OBGT wildcard? Edit: There would be no delay to the rounds and structure to the event, as I would have something ready to roll out, in the case I'm called up to the plate. :p
12. Baron: I like your piece, the cold colors and blue moody effect give a stark visualisation of Ennui. I like the font selection and the choice of white for the color makes it stand out. Well done. The scratchy border is also very classy, and the image on the side makes my head spin. Nice arranging. Sean: I like the blue blurry background in your pic, it sort of accentuates the boredom blurr lol. I agree with other shere that your definition of Ennui is a bit too dictionary-ish. Still, the choice of font was a good one. It was well compiled. I'm going to have to go with Baron on this one, though, his submission just has that "wow factor"
13. This is my latest myOtaku banner. It is designed to work on any layout, neutral, if you will. I'm not too sure I achieved that with this pic or not. Anyhow, the tecnique center stage here is deliberately grayscaling the background to achieve a central focus. I want the viewer to be drawn by the color. it is inspired by Sin City. Did I succeed? All comments welcomed! :catgirl:
14. For starters, you might like to try it like this way, Get your lineart and do the darkest shading first, and then progress into the lighter side of it. Either that, or go the opposite way, start light, progress to dark. If you follow a natural progression and visualise how you want the shading to turn out, it will turn out a lot better. Let me know how you get along with that.
15. Well, I remember back ott he Commodore 64, which was like, a computer that was designed mainly for games. Some of my favourite games were Superfrog, which was amde with real dedication and care, Zool, which was also a great platformwer, strategy's like Lemmings, and textual adventures like the Math Adventure, and subattack on the PD games diskc that came with the comp. Superfrog is a game I liked most of all, it was the first gsame I seriously played, outside the PD games disk. I liked the games that rewarded you with progress by giving you fantastic new worlds and more complex things to jump over. Superfrog is like this, and, when you get right down to it, it's a simple parody of the superhero genre. Though the latter point I've only sort of discovered playing it nowadays through my WinUAE. Another game I used to like was McDonald's land, blatant corporate sponsorship, but who cares, the game was a real adventure. The newer Mcdonald's games that came out for CD ROM are absolute McCrap, compared with McDonald's land.

17. Option D: Philosophy | Science. Christians | Scientists. While some aspects of my faith can be argued with science, the gist of it cannot. Science, lets face it, is not really the area for a faith based creationism to be espoused. The unprovable aspects of my faith are the personal, it's what God does in me that has sustained my belief in him, moreso that any rationalising or how all the animals fit on the ark discussion. That, simply, cannot be taught in science.
18.
Godelsensei] Kiddo, have you ever looked at early European illustrations of the dolphin? The damn thing looks like, oh...a Chinese dragon.
Godelsensei, i think you've accentuated my point there. At least the point that, the Chinese Dragon is a part of a zodiac compiled of regular creatures. This is a possible link to having humans witness Dinosaurs first hand, and after that, making exaggerated pictures and statues of them as fire breathing behemoths.
[/color'] Talking about behemoths...okay, then Humbaba was real, and lived in a great Cedar forest in Ancient Mesopotamia.
After googling for Humbaba, I ask, why not? Maybe not as some kind of God, rather than, say, a Brachiosaur or Tyrannosaur. I don't see why Humbaba couldn't be real in some form. I'm close to conceeding the Adan and Eve as Dino chow, apart from a random idea that Humans were given reign of the European/Middle eastern area and the Dinosaurs lived on the African plains, at least until Humanity had established itself. Either that or God protected them so they would survive. God was still in cotnrol, despite the estrangement circa Eden. On another note: There are some aspects of our faith that simply can't be explained by Science, and that is why, if I saw the day creationism came back into the classroom, I would like it to be in a social studies environment.
19. I would like to take up the Dinosaurs challenge, Alex.
And I challenge you to find an undeniable and clear mention of dinosaurs in Genesis. Try to avoid bringing up the whole "giant lizards" bit, too. lol I highly, highly doubt "giant lizards" is referring to 2,000 ton Brachiosaurs.
It all comes down to the language of the day, so there is no way we could ever say Dinosaurs were mentioned in the Bible because they were called somethign else. For example, people of that day might have been awestruck by a giant flying bird, and written about a Dragon. Whereas we would see the same scaly buzzard, and call it a Pterodactyl.
While the word "dinosaur" is a relatively new word, there seems to be evidence in many places around the world that men and these creatures have co-existed. In the Bible, when God is responding to Job, in Job 40 and 41, we see two creatures described, the 'behemoth' and the 'leviathan.' Both are described as extremely large animals and seem reminiscent of descriptions of a dinosaur and a giant sea creature. Although Bible notes in many modern translations suggest these animals might be a hippo, a crocodile, an elephant, or other known animals, the Biblical descriptions defy those identifications. http://www.rae.org/pteroets.html The Bible and Pterosaurs: Archaeological and Linguistic Studies of Jurassic Animals that Lived Recently The Chinese histories and legends abound with dinosaurs. But they are not called "dinosaurs." They are called "dragons." The dragon is one of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac. What is interesting is that all the other eleven are commonly known animals and there is no hint of 'mythology' involved with their identities. It seems as if the dragon was just a commonly known at one time. The pictures are often fantastical, but so are their stylized pictures of horses and other animals. I checked the web for accessible information on this. I was able to find a few things that were not having to do with video games, sculptures, movies, items for sale, and such. The following links may be of interest. There are more. If you have access to books, you might want to check the epic of Beowulf, in which he battles a monster. If you have access to a good book on the history of art, you may be able to see some dragons and sea monsters painted on ancient Roman pottery. The legends abound all over the world. They do not seem to be connected to each other, but each telling of its own place. We have the story of St. George and the Dragon; there is the reference regarding Alexander the Great of his army disturbing some giant monster in a cave on their way to India. The American Indian thunderbird may very well be one of the ancient flying reptiles. An excellent essay by Lourella Rouster is "The Footprints of Dragons," at http://rae.org/dragons.html A couple of pages which chronicle a bit the possible existence of monsters in Europe aredragon myths from Austria http://www.strangescience.net/stdino2.htm page includes two paintings of dragons from the seventeenth century that are quite interesting! Doug Sharp, whose webpage "Revolution Against Evolution" has Rouster's essay, also carries the following: http://rae.org/tuba.html The Rhamphorhynchoid Pterosaur -- Scaphognathus crassirostris: A "Living Fossil" Until the 17th Century All in all, then, there is reason to doubt the evolutionist timeline that says dinosaurs -- or the dragons -- died out before man ever arrived. There is simply too much evidence in stone, art, writing, and legend which contradicts that idea.
So there is quite a bit of evidence in the Bible and other sources like the Chinese legends to say that, in fact, people of thoise times had knowledge of the Dinosaurs. It essentially, comes down to wether or not you want to believe that when people were referring to Dragon, they were referring to Dinosaur.
God created man. He did not place man. Placing man would be similar to some spaced-out version of SimCity. It wasn't like clicking a mouse and dropping a Town Hall. It's explicitly stated in the story of Genesis that God breathed life into dirt.
Wouldn't that be funny? If we were merely some peds in The Sims on a PS3000? lol. Anythings possible.....
20.
Now they have gone exclusive rights crazy. They signed a contract with Steven Speilburg for the exclusive rights to create games for his upcoming movies. Mainly wanting King Kong all to itself. Yes that is quite Evil.
They should be talking to Peter Jackson if they want the King Kong game. ^_~

The Gorillaz

Meh, I don't like the Gorillaz, I find them to be a very overhyped band. Gotta gove them credit for their music vids, though, they're usually pretty good. With the exeption of Dare's music vid, which was very sub-par. Dare, in itself, is a very boring, repetitive song.
22. It's cringe-inducing to look back at my old Saiyangohan2002 days, boy they were some strange threads! It's always interesting to re-visit old threads you once participated in, and compare the discussions within with the discussions today. But for randomness and, well, wierdness, you can't go past the sock thread. Fun times.
23.
It's not actualy the Bible's claim - it's the claim of Gilagamesh and the Sumerian Legends. The bible stole, word-for-word damn-nearly, the Epic of Gilgamesh when it created the Noah legend. And yes, there are flood-myths worldwide. That doesn't mean anything. A little flooding could, if enough generations pass it down through word-of-mouth (Exaggerating it as they go), become some end-of-the-world flood. Look at places like Australia - it's dry and desert-like for much of the island. Now imagine if some freak monsoon sweeped in and the whole place flooded (Think New Orleans during the highest waters), wouldn't you - a primative, crude aborogini - think somthing must be terribly wrong? That the world was about to end?
That's the one I was thinking about, Gilgamesh. I don't think it's a case of who stole the legend, rather than two civilisations take on the same event. Even if it was stolen in some way, the Sumerian writers could have stolen the legend. True, the Bible in it's current status was compiled and canonised less than two thousand years ago, but the religion itself, moreso the Old testament, has been around in various forms of written scrolls and stone tablets, for much, much longer.
24.
It's been done. It's all been done. Look hard enough and I guarantee you it has been done. There are so many religions out there, all Christianity did was pick-and-choose things from other religions that suited their purposes, and than overexagerat what truth there is in the bible. I'm honestly surprised there are so many Christians O_O
Interesting... I challenge you to find another religion that has god's son coming down to die for the remission of humanity's sins, I haven't found one to date. Closest being Islam and even then, their version of Jesus (Isa) isn't actually god's son, but a revered prophet, oh, and he didn't die for our sins either. As for Christianity being a hotch potch "frankenligion" that's a fallacy. The problem here is that the Catholic Church did incorporate many symbols for their faith (the sun god's discs became the saints halos, Neptune's trident became the devils pitchfork etc.) But the true essence of Christianity, it's message about Jesus rather that the symbols used to portray such, is completely original. Another example would be the bible's claim that there was once a worldwide flood to end wickedness. Several religions around the world, including aboriginal Australian legend, which came into being on the other side of the world, carry some sort of flood account. It's evident that there was some kind of flood across the globe, that affected all civilisations.
25. I too, find religion threads fun. It's good to be able to discuss our varying theories about how we came about in a forum atmosphere, personally, I don't go into them looking to convert people anymore, I just enjoy discussing my POV on the matter.. It does get heated up from both sides quite frequently, but that only adds spice to the thread. As far as I see, no flame, no fowl.
