Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of a sticky thread/sub-forum as I doubt myself tha there is enough interest to warrant it's own forum. I like the "your picture" section of the profile, but no-one uses it anyway and there isn't an option to leave any sort of comments. Well, I'll see how many people want it back (dang, wish I had polled this thread now), if I'm the only one who wants to see it return, well, it might not be worth the time. :p Thanks James.
I have no comment on whether he was guilty or not- that is between him and his diety now. But I will remind people that something like this happened back in the 90's with him too and he offered them money to getthem not to press charges... hmm
I sometimes wonder if the recent Arvizo case would have happened if Jackson toughed it out the first time around and fought off the 1993 charges afainst him. I've always had this feeling that he settled those charges just to get them over with. This made it lood like he had something to hide and made him a softer target. I'm agreeing with the jury, not guilty. Michael has some serious psycho issues to deal with now, he's naieve and believes that sleeping with children is harmless and caring. He needs to be brought back to reality.

Well, it's been a while since OB had a forum where members could post their pictures in a forum, and have a little discussion on them (even competitons, hehe) I miss seeing members post their photo, It was fun to discover that the mental image you had of a certain member was totally wrong. Even if it didn't warrant a forum, a sticky would be cool too. Jus a little thought. Who else wants the picture forum back?

The verdict didn't really suprise me at all. The prosecution builds up this scandalous case, and the defense shoots it full of holes, and turns the tables on the accusers, who thought they had this pretty well planned out. IMO: Michael should seek compensation, Sneddon should retire.

Been here forever, never got around to one of these threads..... I live in Christchurch, New Zealand. Home of the Canterbury Crusaders, a rugby team that totally pwnZ0r the Super 12 competition. :p It's real nice down here, I'm in a suburb that's nicely sheltered by hills, so it's always cozy. Places to go: Cathedral Square, always something going on, Eastgate mall, my local hang out spot and perhaps Sumner or Redcliffs suburbs. Places to Eat: Definately the Ferrymead, got soem nice ribs down there. :tasty: Or another nice restauraunt called Robbies (there's a chain of those). Places not to go: New Brighton mall, it's half shut down and a wasteland. A sad, sad shell of it's once glorious self.

Well, apart from me, who else is looking forward to seeing Speilberg's retelling of the War of the Worlds? I've just seen the trailer, and it looks superb, the visuals are stunning, and the action sequences are incredible (the ones we've seen) So far, only eye candy, and no story. I'd have liked to see an Alien or a tripod make an appearance, but I guess they are the movie kingmakers and will be revealed only when it's released. The ET-like hand wrapping around the earth in a teaser poster looks cool though. Maybe Spielberg could have used the tagline "ET gone bad" If the story sucks, at least the movies visuals will be good. Nothing better than watching Aliens tear earth a new one, er, movie-wise, that is. ;)

I agree with the "you are so beautiful" dialogue being atrocious, but I didn't find it wooden, just cheesy and clich'e. Star Wars has never taken itself ultra-serious before. The funiest thing about that scene was seeing so many people in the cinema make gagging noises and let offf some profanity of soem sort. Right then I knew most people would not like this scene. At least we only saw but a few moment's of Jar-Jar. Minus the lightsaber death I had hoped Lucas would throw in to satisfy the fans who have hated him so. :(
Vader's Noooooo! at the end, however, was quite clever. Classic Villainry. It works so well with Star Wars, because, Lucas wanted to pay homage to the Saturday matinee serials with Star Wars, so it makes sense to throw in a classic "villain-has-lost-everything-Noooooo!"
Yes, I think I actually burst into spontaneous applause upon hearing that.

Well, the Corby verdict is coming soon, the 3 judges will hand their verdicts in about an hour from now. I still maintain she is innocent, and it stands to reason, after all, why export drugs to Indonesia when they're worth twice as much in Australia? This whole case has not made much sense at all, and seems more than a bit skewered in the prosecutions favour. I heard that Corby's lawyer has released a statement saying the chief judge has never found a suspected drug trafficker not guilty. If that's true, that's bad news. :( Still, I have faith and hope that the truth will have prevailed, and Corby will be aquitted of these crimes. the defenses' case has been reasonable, and is definately something for the judges to think about. I'm praying for you, Schappelle Corby, and I pray that your ordeal will be over soon. I don't know much about the Bali 9, are they connected to Corby's case in some way?

Abstinence only programs Yay or nay?
TheShinje replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
How exactly, is talk about a failure rate scaring people away from using them? Surely, anyone would conclude that a 1% failure rate in protection is better than going to hell with it and using none at all? And besides, this program espouses the one contraceptive that is 100% safe, and risk free. Safe condom use should be there and explained, but in the long run, abstenince is your safest bet. People need to be aware that condoms aren't bulletproof, and this program acheives that. -
] Still, I do agree that parents should play the major role, not schools. Schools can provide some "technical" education (in regard to the biology and so on), but I think that parents really need to sit down with their kids and discuss the relevant issues.
I agree. Not that the school system desn't work, but I myself would feel more confortable talking about things like that with my parents. Then there is the fact that a school system has to be a one-size-fits-all system. Parents can teach sex ed according to their family's beliefs. I also agree with your combined approach. Discourage sex at young age, but arm them with the knowledge to do what's right should they decide to, that's the sensible solution here. -
I've been having a few problems accessing the comments options. I'm sure it's not my settings as I've tried this on a couple of different comnputers. The page either cannot be found, using IE, or I get the pop-up telling me the document contains no data (FireFox) Are the comments systems unstable at the moment? sometimes it loads the commnets but doesn't load the skin. Any ideas as to what is causing my woes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to comment / view mine frequently since it started happening

Not necessarily, we see the Death star in Episode IV, 18 years later but have no knowledge of how long it has been flying around before that. It is possible that the Death star flew around as the Empire's planet-shaking weapon 17 years prior to Episode IV.

Tarkin was in the movie? I didn't see him, was he there briefly towards the end or something?
Just saw the last movie today, and what a great film it was. It really tied together the two triolgies well. **major spoilers ahead**
I didn't expect Count Dooku to go down so quick in his movie, but that was a great moment in itself. Here we see Palpatine starting to really influence Anakin's choices. He would not have killed Dooku if had not been for Palpatine's instruction to do so. Did General Grievous cough so much in Episode II? or was that just added for comic relief? *hatches master plah* hahaha! *cough, cough* There were many great scene that paralleled the OT, such as the long-running tradition of having someones hands sliced off. The one that go me was when Anakin, now Darth Vader was convincing Padme that they could overthrow Palpatine and rule the galaxy together. This is exactly what he says to Luke in ESB. What is Vader's motive for this? Well, he must know that he has a higher mitichlorian count that Palpatine, and is plotting to overthrow him since day 1 Anakin's fall to the dark side worked out tragically, to be the cause of the one thign that he was trying to prevent. In his desperation he turns to Palpatine. Funny though, I always thought that Palpatine's disfigured appearance in the OT was his true self and not the result of a Jedi assasination attempt. Is that acually true? Mace's lightsaber never touches him as he always has some kind of force lightning barrier. The first time force lightning was used, excuse the pun, was electrifying. That was the moment that signalled to me, the gloves were off. Palpatine has put his plan into action, and nothing was going to stop him now. What of plan 66? I thought the betrayal of the Jedi was a well done scene, and that you really felt for the Jedi that were being mowed down by those who they thought were on their side. Yoda scens of heartache and hurt accomapnying them helped that emotion along too. A question that has been on my mind. is Vader in full swing as evil Sith Lord before the mask? Did he have to kill the younglings? I know he is now a Sith Lord, but is he that ruthless just yet? With Anakin expecting children of his own, that's the last thing I expected him to be doing. It seemed liike the killing of the younglings scene was there to throw Anakin into full dark-side mode, and to start burning any meotional bridges we had witht he character. Yoda's fight with Palpatine in the Senate was a cool scene. Remniscent of Luke and Vader, Yoda and Dooku, where they use the force to propel objects at each other. Good Stuff.
Now I can't wait for the NT box set to come out, It'll sit nicely along side my OT one.

It will be interesting to see how this movie goes. This is the one that will link up the NT to the OT, so a few questions will be answered, Luke and Leia will be amongst them. Will Boba Fett make an appearance? taking over his father's role? His inclusion as the Bounty Hunter would mean that Sith happens in quite a distant time period from Episode II. this would make sense, though. As I recall, Sith is taking place at a time when the Clone Wars are nearing their end. Episode II was their beginning. Interesting, most interesting. What I'm most, most itnerested in seeing is the transformation of the Glalactic Republic into the Imperial Empire. It's the moment I've been waiting for since the prequels were slated for production. I hope they don't screw anything up, and I don't think they will, I beleive that that the transition form Republic to Empire will be, rather nifty. :animesmil What are the things that interest you most about the last prequel? what do you wan to see revealed/answered? Or, if you like, just comment on the movie itself.. I know it's being released soon. ^^; EDIT: Just as another point of discussion, does anyone know what the Title "Darth" actually means? I know about Vader and Maul, both apprentices of the Emperor, but Sidious? Isn't Sidious one of Palpatine's guises? I'm guessing that Darth means apprentice, but if Sidious is indeed the Emperor, then I don't know. o_O; Yoda says, in Episode I, something to the tune of "always two there are, one apprentice, one master" Is that the Emperor, and his "Darth" or apprentice?

It's looking more like a games console than a photocopier now. Console designs never sit well with me first off, but I grow to like them. PS3 looks groovy from the other angles I've seen. :animeknow
Oh, and about the SPIDERMAN thing, SONY kinda owns the rights to that movie so...yeah they own the font too. Stop trying to find little things to knock the PS3 for just because you love XBOX so much for giving you HALO.
Oh, I'm not bashing the console because of it's Spiderman font, just a little dissapointed they didn't run with anything original. It might not be final yet anyway. I don't own an XBox, and I've only played Halo about, 4 or 5 times. ;)

It looks more like some sort of photo copier, than a games console, lol. However, those sepcifics are pretty tight, I'm glad to see that they are implementing a new disc technology rather than sticking with DVD. DVD is beign pushed to it's limits as it is. it's not something I'm absolutely enthusistic about buying, as I'm still quite ahppy with my PS2, I'll have to see what games are announced and how advanced they are on the new console first. GTA4 should be a treat, though. Edit: Ajeh, I thought ot that as well. It's quite dissapointing since the first two consoles had their own design, and the PS3 is just going with a generic font used in the posterwork of a major blockbuster movie series. I haven't seen the controller though. I hope the one I found with the red 'marble' is a fake.

Er, well, In the last thread I said I wanted to see Rob and Amber win, so I was a little dissapointed they didn't make it in the end due to getting lost. I think I wanted R&A to win because they were the only team most people really didn't want to win. I haven't seen a team on TAR that so many people wanted to see lose. Props to Uchenna and Joyce for their victory though.

(3) Planet of the Apes (2001) I just felt that Burton's remake paled in comparison ot the Charlton Heston original. None of the suspense of the first films. I usually like Burton's films, but som, ething was lacking wiht this atrocity. Add to that most of the movie was so dark that whenever a fire was lit, or we had some (gasp!) day scenes, they hurt my eyes. (2) Taxi Boring movie, Not the laugh-out-loud movie that I was expecting, not even a laugh-out-a-tiny-bit one. The greatest performance came from the Batmobile-ripoff Taxi. (1) Racing stripes. Quite honestly, the worst movie I have ever seen. The trailer made this flick look like a great comedy featuring a Zebra that talks, instead the whole movie played out like some convoluted melodrama that wasn't even remotely interesting to watch, featuring a Zebra that talks, the only bearable moments of this disaster were the scenes with the pair of flies.oo bad the didn't make enough apperances to make a dent.

I've been watching the Amazing Race since the first episode, and I think that this season has been one of the best yet! The Amazing Race pits teams of two, teams comrpising of existign relationships, against each other in a race aroudn the world. Kind of like a reality show version of that Rat Race movie. Every year I go for a particular team, and this year I've been going for Rob and Amber, former survivors. However, Meredith and Gretchen have put up a valiant fight to stay in the race, and I would be equally as satisfied if they won.
I would have liked to see Ryan and Chuck stick around longer, they had some pretty cool lines in episode one. Rob and Amber's survivor-esque plotting in that episode where they successfully conned teams out of eating the meat, in the episode where they got a 3 hoiur penalty for doign so, was genius. Who'd have thoiugh it'd actually work? Did the other teams not know that they were letting Rob and Amber off what may have been their demise? lol.
What of past seasons? what did you think of how those races panned out, and the teams that participated? Or Future seasons, do you have an idea as to where the Race should head next? -Amazing Race, love it or hate it?

I don't know what to say on this issue really, this woman gave her family undue grief and worry, not to mention wasting police time & resources. She should be prosecuted and made to pay their expenses. A pity too, I wanted to watch Fox News for, well, news, and I get this story saturating the morning. It shows over here past midnight so I was depriving myself of sleep for nothing! :D
I doubt the monster is
a polar bear. In fact, I was under the assumption Walt was creating the polar bears himself. If you pay attention to the flashback, Walt was reading a book about the birds of Australia right before one flew head-first into the glass door of his house.[/spoiler']
Yeah, that's what I was referring to, basically,
Walt seems to have an ability, under stress, to create things out of his own mind, (eg, the polar bear right after he reads the polar bear comics, no polar bear to date since the comic was burned....) I presume then that the monster is either a polar bear, or somethign else that Walt has conjured up. And then there's the Locke connection. He's the only one that has seen the monster directly, so he knows what it is, and, to an extent, probably knows where it has come from.

I want to know why Claire
lost her memory after escaping from Ethan. The guy hanged and killed Charlie and can take out Jack with no problem. The idea that a pregnant woman can escape from him and lose her memory of ever meeting him? Plus he had scratches on his face, which means she probably put up a fight, but he didn't come after her until a day or two later. And let's not forget her flashback where the psychic told her there was something "blurry" about her baby.

Well, weird things certainly do happen on this island
so I wouldn't be surprised is Claire's baby has some kind of connection with the supernatural. What that blurry thing about Claire's baby is could be a plot point explored in future episodes. Claire will mopst probably give birth in the next season, I just hope they don't have her give birth to an alien or something stupid like that, lol.
Well, I've been a fan of Lost since day one, it's an incredible show. It's one of the only shows on TV at the moment that I can be enthraleld by, and be completely wrapped up in.
Locke being wheelchair-bound prior to landing on the island was a twist I never saw coming, I like surprises alot.
So far, I've really become interested in Locke's backstory, and his involvement with whatever's on the island. It's clear that Locke knows way more than he is letting on, I'm very interested to see how
the secret hatch he and Boone have been sneaking off to
pans out. And I'm waiting for whatever that monster thing is on the island to be revealed,
is it just the polar bears? What connection, based on Micael's backstory (just aired in NZ), does his son have to do with it? after all, he was reading a polar bear comic before one attacked him, and polar bears aren't exactly normal on a tropical island.
Most interesting new show I've seen in a while, can't wait for the next ep.

Or the DVD box sets :p Don't worry, I don't think the Simpsons are going anywhere soon. Despite alot of people saying that it's lost it's touch and not funny anymore, there is still a huge fanbase out there. As long as they've got that, that's all they need. Yet, Groening may get sick of it one day and pull the plug, who knows?

I predicted, back in 2002, that Benedict XVI would succeed the Pope, i could tell by his closeness to John Paul II that he wiuld be a most obvious frontrunner. So I watched this papal election with great interest, for that reason, to see the one I thought would be chosen, and all the religious ceremonies that haven't been practised since I was born. I became a baptist Christian later on, however, because I disagree with some man being exalted to near-god status, heck, with all the millions of people pouring in to Vatican City see John Paul's lifeless body, you could excuse some people for thinking he was.
Then you have issues with blood. The show used to use it sparingly, but there's entire scenes where blood is literally gushing. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't think it fits this series and it certainly is not funny. It had a great place in Itchy and Scratchy, which were a great commentary on TV violence in and of themselves, but certainly not in the main show. Further proof of its parodizing, as far as I'm concerned.
If I had a pet peeve from the latest episodes, that would certainly be it. Early episodes, as you'e recalled, used blood sparingly, if at all, I recall an episode that satirized Psycho, but they used Homer pulling down red paint instead of using blood. They did use gushing blood to a real good effect in their Passion of the Christ send-up, that episode was quite funny. It would have been more so if blood was still as rare as it was in the first seasons.
I think another issue is that the show completely embraces pop-culture. Before it used to satirize and poke fun at these things. Now it dedicates entire episodes to it. The Simpsons is like a forty year old man that wants to pretend he's still twenty. It's not fooling anyone.
Yeesh, I wish they'd stop embracing pop culture and get back to what they were best at, making fun of it. :p I was annoyed when the N*Sync episode aired, and they weren't the joke, as those in pop culture usually are, they were glorified guest stars! Still, these are mildly annoying problems in a show that still retains alot of it's funnyness, even if it is more slapstick than it was in its prime. I do think that the Simpsons is capable of reaching it's prime again, but if it didn't, I wouldn't be dissapointed myself, Its still funnier than Friends repeats, which it replaced here.
