I never cared very much for the rankings anyway, but it is still annyoing when some n00b (not dissing genuine newbies here) puts a page up with no real content, just a load of BS, and they're all of a sudden number 1. I just ignore the ranking system now, there isn't a lot you can do if there are people out there so sad they have to cheat the system to fool themselves.

Good statement there, sums up the theory re: machines being fate and humans being secondary characters really well.

yeah, the Another Brick in the Wall cover rocks! I tuned in to the local alternative radio station over here, to hear a metal version of Another Brick in the Wall, I loved it the first second I heard it. It's a great song. I quite like the Floyd original and it was quite cool to hear a rocked up version of it. :smirk:
we'll christianity..is one of the thing in which i believe less..how can people that have killed arabs only because they were arabs(during the crusades)can have as a dogma "not committ omicide"? as it is only the most simple thing..
Not all Christians were crusaders, those who took part in the crusades were not following the truth. theyw ere most certainly living a lie, claiming to be that which they weren't. This is why I don't consider attacking Christianity on account of the crusades to be an entirely fair idea. After all, you don't continue to attack Germany because of the Holocaust.

Doesn't it all seem so... pointless?
TheShinje replied to Sword Breaker's topic in General Discussion
Life does have a purpose, but it's ultimately what you make of it. Those who are destined to die strive to achieve a better life, or recognition. Sure they may die, but at least they had a good life. For me, belief in an afterlife and reward for good things done here on Earth keeps me going In a world that isn't very fair. -
At the end of the world, where will you be?
TheShinje replied to Doukeshi's topic in General Discussion
[Warning - faith based post!] I know where I will be... No doubt humanity has screwed up, and I mean really screwed up. It started at the fall, and cointinued in the form of mans ultimate pride in itself and it's progress, and a turning away from God. This doesn't mean that we aren't enitled to salvation, that gift was given to us at the cross, by Jesus, wether we, humanity as a whole, deserve this salvation is another thing, what matters is we got it, if you want it. End of the world? Might happen soon, possibly in our lfietimes, thought I don't like to put exact ddates on things. Alot of bilbical prophecy is coming to pass in these years, in chronological order, no doubt. Thought no exact dates can be set, as some do, the sign of the times is there, Matthew 24. It's also ironic that, as we progress throuhg the years, more and more discussions are popping up about the end of the world. There's my two cents, take it or leave it. :tasty: -
Hope you like these.
] Its just basically a Kill Bill kind of background, Yellow with a ONE single black stripe.
It's a Bushism! :p

Reise, what font did you use for that picture? It's very groovy. -
I doubt i'd be getting a PStwo anytime soon, My PS2 has been really good, with no problems, and It wouldn't make much sense just to buy virtually the same machine.

Well, as far as the new features. story mode and abilities. Plus the added ebnefit of exploring three whole cities (plus the countryside in between) are concerned, SanAndreas is not a mere repitition of the past GTA's, but neither was Vice City, in that respect. I'm only hoping SanAndreas doesn't fail in replay value where the others have. And from what I've seen, that's unlikely. In GTA3 and Vice City, what did you have when completeing the game? You either had to repeat the missions or just run around causign senseless violence. In SanAndreas, however, that seems set to change. >It looks like there will be a continual gang war between the OGF (CJ's gang) and their rivals, the Ballas, over control of Los Santos. >There are vehicle shops where you can cutsomise your cars, "Pimp my Ride" style. > You can gamble at casino's, maybe even run one (unconfirmed) gta-sanandreas.com have some great pics of the new features, the best being the pics of the pimped-out rides on page 4. Apparently there will also be a driving school to learn new moves.
We're hearing about haircuts, fitness centers, a dynamic body that gets fatter with lack of exercise and donut consumption...has Will Wright had a hand in this game?
Most probably, :p Not all of SanAndreas' new features are good ideas, and the added feature of needing to eat... all seems a little ridiculous.

A moment of Silence for Chris Reeves
TheShinje replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
This is the first I've heard of it, sad news. I was always hoping that one day they would find a cure for the paralysis, and Reeve may one day walk again. Sadly, it wasn't to be. My prayers with Reeve's family at this time. -
k0rn! t3h sUx0rZ!1!1 No, seriously, Korn are quite a good band, I have got quite fond of some of their songs, like Freak on a leash and Make me Bad, most notably I got into their song, Here to stay when I was a little more depressed. Interestingly, raging alogn with that song got me to feel a little better. They're the only songs I really heard from Korn, I didn't beocme a great fan of theirs, I was mroe into Limp Bizkit when they were big.

Soem fo my fave movie fights are... Neo/Smith - The Matrix. I loved this scene/these scenes, toward the twilight of the movie Neo has a showdown with agent Smith, his main nemesis throuought the movie. It really was the best climax the film could have. Throughout the Movie we see Neo just trying to comprehend this wacky new world that he's just been droped in, and at the end, coming to the all-important realisation
that he is The One
which is the catalyst for the conclusion to this fight. Incredible, much more enjoyable than the 100 Smith fights. Luke/Vader - Return of the Jedi Siren's already pointed out ESB's Luke/Vader scene so I thought I'd comment on ROTJ. Luke facign off against Vader in ROTJ was another great Star Wars fight. Father and son doing battle with each other, Vader serving the emperor and Luke trying to bring out what good is left in his father, While the Emperor watched on, seducing Luke to the "Imperial Dark Side" (he's already dark side in ROTJ) It held alot of emotion for me, and still does. I haven't yet watched the DVD version of ROTJ, but plan on seeing it this weekend. Simba/Scar - The Lion King One of the first darker fights I had seen, Simba coming back after a hiatus form the pride, to overthrow Scar, the brother of Mufasa who
whacked Mufasa to claim the pride.
The more I think about this fight, Scar wasn't really evil, lol. He was just a darker lion than the others and was doing what was instinctivley right. (aren't they lions? do nature documentarists scold a young alpha male for usurping the older off the throne?) Either way, Lion King's final fight between Scar and Simba was one of the more emotional of my childhood. And, today it could still kick Home on the Range's butt into next week!

I ogt my copy of the DVD trilogy today, and it looks marvelous. The silver box looks great, and I feel it fits the trilogy well. The movies themselves look great, with the exception of one or two scenes (eg, the Jabba scene in Episode IV) I started watching the bonus featurettes the other day, so far I've seen Birth of the Lightsaber and the Movie trailers. It was quite itnerestign to see the movie trailers and take a look at how the Star Wars movies were marketed when they were first released. Some of those trailers look and feel downright cheesy. :p Birth of the Lightsaber was an eye opener, It was quite intriguing to see what inspired Lucas to ocme up with it, how hte original Saber sounds were made etc.. I've yet to see all of the bonus features, I'm savoring this disc so I don't run out of unseen stuff too soon :p But from what I've seen of the DVD set so far, it's all good.

I've never acted like Sir Suron, that'd just be wierd... "Ga...I mean, Sir Auron, could you pass the salt?" "sure thing mom, now that you call me by my ub3r cool SCREE NAME! *plots world domination* "son, now what have I told you about using emotive asterisks at the table?" "Gah, sorry Dad," If I were to go by my screenname, I'd have picked an ub3r cool one, like Thor, or Sonic blaster, or Shinji.

A man without religion is like a fish without a bicycle.
Little question is brought up when a teacher tells a student to remove a necklace with a penticle on it, but make it a cross and the whole world freaks out.
I disagree, I've seen just as much fuss over someone forced to remove a pentagram as a cross. I am a Christian, but I'm not soemone who is going to abuse soemone of other or no religion, this is a violation of all I stand for, the free will of God, Love thy neighbour as thyself etc... The closest I'd get to such would be to simply talk to someone about my faith, provided they wanted to. Without them wanting to hear it, it's pointless lol, and all it'd do is drive them away. That being said, I disagree wiht the practise of banning any forms of religion from the class, bibles or prayer, headscarves or pentagrams etc. Sure, while many may argue that such items have no place in education, those who belive in them would dusagree. I know from my school years that prayer and faiht can get you throught some tough exam times! That's why I believe a persons right to religion should ntobe taken fromt he classroom. -
Has it been redefined to fit a higher resolution than 800x600? because now the top part of the "s" is cropped off by the screen. No big deal anyway. I'd be more than happy to make the graphical aspect of a skin if you want. I've got a couple of ideas. Let me know.
The truth is, no matter what Bush did, he would have been criticized. If he'd rushed out in a hurry, people would have claimed that he'd scared the kids. By waiting just seven minutes, people now claim he was taking too long and wasn't taking it seriously. In all honesty, the man is just not going to win. lol
Interesting. I have always advocated Bush staying on to read the rest of the story before going to deal with 9/11, because I thought he might scare the kids if he just up and left. It seemed to me, as events were unfolding, to be the most reasonable plan of action. The finishing of the story by Bush was brought up in Fahrenheit 9/11, and was one of the things I much disliked about the movie. It seems that alot of the critics of this move don't really see why, the only see a chance to criticise.

The changes to the movies don't worry me, some scene edits make things more interesting, such as the Cloud City scene where they edited in windows, so you could see more of Cloud City over the bland walls that were there prior. It helped the vision of "this is a city in the clouds" be more prevalent. Other scenes such as Jabba in ANH really did spoil the ROTJ scenes where he is finally revealed, all the mystique about who this Jabba is, is taken out by him now appearing in the first movie. I'm going to grab this box set if and when my wallet can afofrd it, seen as I recently accquired Attack of the Clones over in Australia, that would mean that I'll only have to pick up Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith to make my collection of the Star Wars films complete. though, time will tell, I have yet to pick up Revolutions to make my Matrix collection complete. :toothy: The main thing I'm looking forward to is the audio commentary. I've longed for an audio commentary on the OT since picking up Episode 2, the commentaries are an interesting look at what made the Director and production staff do a certain scene one way and, sometimes, how they achieved said effects. Sometimes I'll pick up a cheap DVD for the hell of it if it has audio commentary as a feature. The star wars ones should be the most interesting, I hope Lucas dives into what made him think of the changes he made a little more.

It's a moment, a defining moment when you know that your favorite television show/gaming series/ musci artist etc.. has reached it's peak. That instant you know... it's all downhill. This is Jumping the Shark. Jump the Shark refers to the episode widely believed to be the end of the series Happy Days, where Fonzie literaly jumps the shark, The website created by Jon Hein deals specificaly with Television shows, but I haven't placed this thread there, or in the gaming forum etc, because I believe that it covers all those areas. So, when did your favorite (insert here) jump the shark? And why did it jump at this particular time? Some of my Jumping moments are.... ER -
Dr Romano is annihilated by a falling helicopter, not that there's anything wrong with an unexpected death every now and then, but I'd expect at least a little show of emotion form his colleagues, even if he was a total a-hole, he was still a living person, and didn't half their building did get blown up? To see them going on as if it was just a flea landing on a wall in a hospital on the other side of the world was just ludicrous! It was the kiss of death for ER.
Limp Bizkit Wes Borland left, Results may Vary was released and and Limp Bizkit became a soggy cookie. A big time shark jump for me, as they were the first band I really got into. Eat you Alive was just pathetic, especially the lyrics about sniffing panties, ergh, all i could image was Fred screaming at Britney, the supposed 'inspiration' for this disasterpiece. (sorry DW, pun intended!) Transformers. My favorite childhood series has ha da number of Shark jumping moments, The Movie for one, where, despite the Autobots and Decepticons firing at each other to no end in the series, and no one is killed, in the movie, they're suddenly belching fire and exploding, to borrow a quote from jumptheshark.com. It also jumped in the latter series, with the patheticaly inferior Rodimus Prime, and the episode where they're transfomred into humans by the special guest character, Cobra Coimmander from GI Joe! The latter Robots in Disguise series jumped when they literally jumped the shark, any one who ever jumped over Skybite! But it jumped terminally when Armada came out, Minicons are pathetic, I hate them to no end. Minicons were definately the beginning of the end of Transformers, and indication as it were, that the ideas well is running well and truly dry. Captian Planet Jumped the Shark form day one, when their ultimate goddy goody planeteers were given the task of stopping evil corporations from polluting the planet, not because they needed to dump excess waste and didn't know how, no! Because they simply liked to pollute the planet because it was fun, And it doesn't gelp when CP himself acts like a ninny, and almost dies... every time a smidge of pollution is poured on him. It's ridiculous, by that logic, CP would die just by flying over major metropolitan areas. They just about got it right with Captain Pollution, he was badass, and I likled cheering for him because the planeteers sucked. Google Jumped the shark when people started using link farms to fool it. Now a search for "French Military Victories" come up with a page askign if I meant "French Military Defeats" Also too a giant leap to wards the proverbial shark with the announcement of either/or, GMail, Froogle, Doogle, shoegle, Moogle (for Final Fantasy fans) The O.C Jumped the shark when all problems and situations the characters faced could be fixed with a couple of "sorrys and hugs" Rockstar North had to plug their logo! Every fight ends in a pool (if it ended in the ocean, the loser would then go find a shark, and jump over it) Two words, Captain Oates. Star Wars Jumped the shark with Episode 1, Jar Jar Binks. The annoying, broken-english-speaking lizard-muppet hybrid created soely to prove that they could insert a flimsy, one-dimensional 3-D (o_O) character into a live action setting. Fortunatley his role dwindled to next to noting in Attack of the Clones, which helped Star Wars jump back, and he will, hopefully be invisible in Revenge of the Sith. We'll see, if he's not, then a nich'e DVD extra allowing you to turn him off is needed. Raw Is War Kane removes his mask, Stone Cold leaves, Triple H has sex with a corpse...... Evolution.... All the good guys are on SmackDown. So, what are your favorite Jumping the Shark moments?

Strangest song you've ever gotten stuck in your head
TheShinje replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Noosphere
hmm a good topic. my song that i cant seem to get out of my head is walky talky man ( i dont know who sings it though *curses*) i saw those iPod commercials and i couldnt get the song out of my head! it was drivin me friggin nuts! oh well, it made me download it on to my iPod so i guess i really ended up losin the battle to apple on that one.
Walkie talkie man is performed by Steriogram. It's a pretty neat song too. The weirdest song I've got stuck in my head is the Cluckin Bell theme, found on Rockstar games Teaser site www.cluckinbellhappychicken.com from Grand Theft Auto: SanAndreas. I even made a post on my MyO with the lyrics, hoping to over-thrash the lyrics until they finally left my head. Nah, that didn't work. ^_^; It was just such a happy tune, that contradictarily (if that's a word) had such morbidly honest lyrics. -
I didn't hear about September 11 until our morning, The first plane hitt the tower between 1:30 and 2:00am our time. I was in the middle of my usual morning routine, and I flicked on the radio, to hear them talking about an incredible scene of tradgedy in New York. Thinking it was just some radio prank, as the DJ's in the morning are real good pranksters, i flicked on the TV to see the sight that I will remember for the rest of my life. I got my mum up and simply told her that "somebody had attacked America" It was all pretty numbing and shocking. America was the last place I ever thought would come under attack. There were varied emotions at school that day, ranging from those who hadn't heard from loved ones, to those who thought that "The US had it coming" which I thought was pretty insensitive, as this had only gone down a few hours ago. Even one of our teachers was anomg those who didn't think much of the attacks. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just reading this thread brings back those emotions, the feeling of losing something, even here over the other side of the world. I guess it may have been the loss of this generations innocence. I had a gut telling me that this was China, getting revenge over the spy plane incident and that it would finally escalate intow World War 3, instead we got the war on Terror, which I guess, thinking about it, is kind of like a World War of sorts. Everyone has an alleigance, and opinion, or a part to play in it. I never thought that the US would capture Saddam before Osama. I just hope they bring him down before he has the chance to plan anything remotely like this again.

Grand Theft Auto: SanAndreas, no doubt about it. I guess the reason I'm looking forward to this game the most is the sheer size of the thing. Five times larger than it's last predecessor, Vice City. Getting lost and finding my way around new GTA cities is a heap of fun, and I can do this three times over in SanAndreas. Targeting has been overhauled, as has the lighting and statistics. The game as viewed form the trailer looks stunning, with more pedestrian and gang interaction that was present in either liberty or Vice City. What's so great about that is Rockstar haven't sacrificed quality for quantity, whilst the map is now five times larger, they still have room, thanks to the Dual Layer DVD disc, to improve the quality, and that is good to see.

I saw most of the countries enter the arena during the opening ceremony, and that was really it. My VCR recorder refused for some reason to start taping, and I had to watch it from 7 onwards with 1 hour (the best hour) missing. Still, it was great to be able to see New Zealand enter the arena, and the Greek alphabet enterance kept me guessing who would come next. I thought the unusual torch device (making it like a pendulum) was quite interesting. As for the events, I've seen a few cycling events, and the Womens basketball. I'll be sure to see some of the other events too, if they do not clash with our holidiay plans. I wodner what they'll pull off for the closing ceremony, they'll be hard-pressed to equal Sydney's glorious closing.
And it's only like $50 here. I've never seen it going for $100.
Currency markup, I assume. Every new game goes for about $100-120 NZD over here, whereas in America it goes for about $50 American.. I can only assume this is to make sure valuable profits aren't lost on the currency conversion.
