1. David Irving is a holocaust denier, although he denies this because it is a venomous title. :p He's stirring controversy down here with his attempted entry into New Zealand, where, after his plans, was asked to speak at a national press club. Immigration turned Irving away, and he plans to fight the system to gain legal entry into new Zealand, claiming his ban is unfair. Irving has also been denied acess in Australia, I believe. With all this going on I have to ask, is this ban necessary? What of his opinions and beliefs, sure they may be radical and racist, but does he not have a right to say his piece under the banner of free speech? Don't get me wrong, I am no holocaust denier, I do believe that the holocaust was atrocious and in no way faked, and I don't care much for Irving and his uninformed oppinion, but I strongly believe that everyone should be allowed to say their piece, however misguided and wrong it may be. I think that we, as a country, have the right to hear his opinions and make an informed decision for ourselves. It's bordering on state censorship when you refuse a man access because "the state" disagrees with your view. So, what do you OB'ers think? Would you deny Irving his freedom of speech, if he was, hypothetically, trying to gain legal access to your nation? Footnote: The falling out between Israel and New Zealand over alleged Mossad agents attempting to illegally gain New Zealand passports, along with NZ political sanctions on Israel until formal apologies have been made, are being cited as possible reasons whay irving wants to visit, even though he made plans to visit long fbefore this incident. Irving has also spoken out against the desecration of Jewish graves in a Wellington cemetery, although went on to claim that 70-80% of such cases are perpetrated by jews themselves.

    I, Robot

It was a great movie, I enjoy a good futuristic movie evry once in a while, so I,Robot had my attention right from the start, when the adverts were "advertising" the NS-5. They made the NS-5 look like a real domestic product in the pre-screening trailers. A little MIB-ish, but I won't hold that against them, I,Robot did a good job of twisting the plot a ltittle here an there, to give you an outcome you weren't expecting,
VIKKI the antagonist.[/spolier] The only thign that really bugged me about the storyline was the 33 year gap. Sure, technology is rapidly evolving faster than anytime in history, and it keeps getting faster, but I share the sentiments of Tony on this one, another 20 years would have made it far more believeable. Well, anyway, Kubrick in his movie predicted that we will be buzzing around in spaceships by 2001, let's see if that comes to pass. ^_~
  3. I wish they had picked a better name than Vaan, it makes me think of the vehicle of the same name. I like what I've seen so far of the Final Fantasy screens, most noteably the random battles taking place in the sandy areas, I'm not a huge fan of random battles, and sometimes find them annoying, however, these bvattles seem to be taking place in much wider spaces. They also look more free, i wonder if you can move your character to a tactical position? (say, the fiend has a weak spot behind itself, so you move your character to a spot where he can attack) X was my first Final Fantasy game, haven't played XI or X-2 because I'm yet to finish X. I've still got quite a few FF rpgs to get throught before tackling XII, so for me, the wait is of great benefit. EDIT: Since there are Moogles and Chocobos in XII, I womnder if there will be Cactuars there also?
  4. To me, Eye Toy was a novelty, soemthing that I looked at, and went "ah, that's neat" the first time I played it, and, ironically, the last time I played it. It's novel "Insert-player-into-game" wears thin after a few turns, at least it did for me, not worth shelling out $100 bucks for, anyway. If I were to hire some kind of eye toy based game in the near future, it would be SingStar, give me a chance to practise for New Zealand Idol lol.
  5. Man, just looking at this thread makes me feel so new to the RPG genre! I started my Final Fantasy story with X, about a couple of months ago, and I'm really enjoying the experience. I'd say that at first, watchign some FMV sequences got me interested in the game, as they were visually stunning, and I still think so too, I'm very impressed with X's visuals, but more recently, I've come to enjoy it's engrossing story, a story that I'd rank very highly, as far as my gaming experiences have taken me, at least. I've yet to see how the whole story wraps up, but so far, so good.
  6.
If you don't like them them don't even bother psoting.
What's the point of this thread then? [strike]Discussion.[/strike]
  7. They're bitmaps, so far as I can tell, OB's avatar uploading won't take the bitmap format, even thoughit's under the size limit. I've re formatted them to png, which is the most lossless of compressions and closest to bitmap quality. Hopefuly your problems will be sorted using these.
  8.
Interestingly enough my highh school biology teacher was a devout Christian and never once did he say that Evolution science was dedicated to promoting atheism over creationism and over religion in general. I think that's a funny way of looking at it.
Oh no, I didn't mean ot suggest all evolution science was dedicated to promoting atheism over God, the point I was making was that I was referring specifically to those who do, that quote was part of my reply to Transtic. It's a funny way of looking at it indeed, as I know not everyone who works in and with the evolution theory is dedicated to overthrowing God, but some are. On other aspects of Evolution, such as micro evolution, it is harldy refutable, taking the Bible into acocunt and with what scientific evidence is present. The Bible teaches that creatures were placed on this planet with a divine commandment to go forth an multiply, assuming here this means adapting to an ever-changing world to continue on with this plan? Over time I have come to accept that micro evolution can really fit with my faith. Macro evolution is another thing altogether, teaching that the process created life, and I object. I find there is plenty of evidence, such as how species of birdlife found out the southern hemisphere was warmer in winter, thus beginning migrations that some birds are notable for. In the end though, I do feel unqualified to talk about this subject as if i my personal opinions were an abosulte truth, if they were, then absolute truth would change a bit here and there, contradicting it's meaning. :p
  9.
Also, in regard to what Shinji said about evolution related to adaption...if religion teaches us that God put living things here in one state and that they never changed, then religion is wrong in that sense. There are mountains and mountains of scientific data, over more than one hundred years, to refute that.
Religion doesn't teach that, in fact, the Buible never says that God put things the way they are and they haven't changed. I was just trying to put forth the possibility that he might have, and that the special features that have evolved on the specific animals to help them survive may have been designedx form the start. It is also a possiblity that these advancements are the product of a micro-evolution. Sorry if it sounded like I was coming off as being decidedly one-sided here.
Not to change the subject or whatnot, but I'm curious as to why you put the word science inclosed in quotes like that?
Because It wasn't my intention to inclued all of science. I was specifically referring to the evolution-science that is dedicated solely to promoting atheism over God, there are a number of professing Christians in the science field, so including them in the argument seems silly.
It's kinda sad really because there is no proof to this thing called religion either, yet there seems to be no debate in whether or not Jesus walked the earth or that God is real or whatever.
I agree that you can't prove God exists, that's why it's called faith. I didn't intentionally set out to say " evolution, BAH, religion, the only way." :p
But at the same time, the Biblical story of creation is very quaint. I've talked about it before (the idea that man came from woman, when biologically, it's the other way around), as well as the timing issues, and the great flood...and all sorts of things that just don't gel with geology and other scientific studies.
Actually, according to the Bible, God made woman out of Adam's rib. Man didn't come from woman.
I've plugged it before, but I strongly recommend that those interested in the subject (religious or otherwise) read a book titled "Telling Lies for God", by an Australian geologist, Ian Plimer.
I'll be in Australia in about a months time, so I'll see if I can find this book and give it a read. It's not like I'll ignore everything that I think might contradict my beliefs, It's just we don't have that book here. As for the flood, well, there are several artifacts such as the grand canyon that have fish fossils that can be attributed to a worldwide flood. I may edit this If i get mor time to explain that fully.
  10. I believe that 'science', in trying to support and prove the belief in evolution, may have given proof that there is a divine origin. Take for example, animals and plants that evolved to their surroundings, like, for example, a carnivorous plant, which has turned to eating insects to survive in areas that are void of a plants usual sustainant. Evolution teaches that, over millions of years that this creature adapted to these environments, creation teaches that God put them there the way they are, enhanced of course, to survive these elements form the get go. The misisng links have never been found. So far, every missing link skeleton has been found to be a species of ape existing today. Even the fmaous "Lucy" was found to be a knuckle walking ape. With very little lack of evidence, I find it easier to believe in a God that created everything than the idea that it all hppended by random time and chance, that we are a universal mistake, lol.
  11. That was the collest little neat little cheap little animation , the humor is top notch, and the in jokes are sharp and funny. If there were any more Otaku Shop, that'd rock. btw, is the title referencing to the Photoshop install, or coincidence?
  12. Well, I'd have to say that the most tragic death "me-controlling" would have been my Ifrit in Final Fantasy 10. I had heard that usings Ifrit's fire could make him heal himself, so I annihilated myself with a meteorite strike! 'Twas a pity, poor Ifrit's first outing. It was later I realised my friend meant fire magic. I'd have to say that the worst character death was
Tidus in FFX, granted, I'm not even up to that yet, at this game I'm still a newbie, but my friend showed me the cut sequences he had saved later in the game. I was thinking that it would have made me feel cheated! Coming all this way to die inevitably. I hadn't seen an ending quite like it before, and thought it was rather an unpleasant twist, unexpected? yes! I guess that makes it a good endign in a way. Who'd have thought?
I haven't seen Final fantasy X2, though apparently
Tidus is alive,
I'd like to see how they explain that.
  13. I just got one point to make,
sfgate.com [article] Moore, known for fanning the flames, has made this a censorship issue, stating: "I would have hoped by now that I would be able to put my work out to the public without having to experience the profound censorship obstacles I often seem to encounter. The whole story behind this (and other attempts) to kill our movie will be told in more detail as the days and weeks go on.''
I think Alex best describe Moore's position as a "walking Contradiction" Miramax is owned by Disney, On his TV show, the Awful Truth, Moore's "heroic chicken thing" throws Mickey Mouse out of a moving car because Mickey is a "bad mouse who supports slave labor" So if I could pose a question to Moore, it would be... Why the hell do you think Disney would green light you?

    Spiderman 2

Transtic, I think that if they were to replace Tobey Maguire in the 3rd movie, it would ruin it, not necessarily because he's the best actor to play spidey, but that he's already established as the character, my opinion, humble as it may be, is replacing the actors halfway through a franchise is a surefire way to Jump the Shark. I enjoyed the movie, it was incredible, the abgst, the drama, the evil laugh Doc Ock makes in his lair on the water, alot of fun. Spiderman is full of everything that makes a good movie, great, thigns that give it it's X-Factor, such as the satirical angle that Raimi takes with his earlier works, while not overdoing them in Spidey, they are there in form of the Evil Dead chainsaw, and it was fun to watch the doctor go "Vash style" in a vain attempt to de limb the Doc. Best movie I've seen sine the Punisher.
  15. Yep, SanAndreas is going to rock! The improvements over "3" and Vice City are to numerous to mention, but I'll got through what I'm most lookign forawrd to. 3 cities This is by far the best enhancement, making it worth he wait (between Vice and SA) and, with all 3 cities, Las Venturra, Los Santos and San Fierro, will be 6 times larger than Vice City. I don't know about anybody else, but I'm just looking forward to exploring such a vast landscape. Countryside in between cities I like this idea lot, instead of the load screen, between islands, you smoothly run from city to open countryside, where, apparently alot of wierd ******* (stuff) happens. So, it will be alot like GTA1, where you had 3 cities, but without the cities being accessed by menu. You'll have to drive through there, and country folk can give you missions. Also, there will be an array of country-specific vehicles, hehe, perhaps I'd like to run amok in a tractor, or a crop duster! I wonder if there will be Amish communities in the country you can do misisons for! On to of this, there will be a mountain in SanAndreas, and it will be huge. I think I'm looking forward to the mountain most. You can now, swim. Gone are the days of taking a hell load of bullets, only to drown fallign into a lake. A good and necessary enhancement, big badass mob runenr can't swim? yeah right! Okay, cool, but this is ridiculous! Carl will have to eats to stay fit, but if he eats too much donuts, he gets fat. To add to this, mob bosses can reject you for missions if you are too unfit. To this end, there is a gym, you use it to get back in shape. I wish I were joking. You can also go to a barber shop and get a haircut. A little too realistic? Whay the need for haircuts? Granted, it gives you a little creative control over your character, but what's next? The need to sit down and read the morning's paper? Walk the dog or it will ruin your front lawn? Go to the toilet or you will, er, get messy? I think that there are some great improvements, no doubt. Some though, like the latter, I have to question.
  16. One picture, see the big picture here? It's hardly going to blow up into Animegate or something. Edit: Chibi, the Coffe cup label, "Caution: Contents Hot" was, i believe, put on the cup as a direct response to this womans lawsuit.
  17.
I've had the 'Condom Truck' twice. A little series of dots and dashes that makes a picture of a truck, carrying condoms. Amazing.
It must take a lot of time to produce ascii art, it's a way you can tell that spammers have nothing esle to do with their miserable lives!
  18. The failed attempt of one devotee to prove "papal powers"
  19. My Entryness: It's a fake screenshot made for gta-sanandreas.com. I'm not sure if they are going to use it yet, I made it onyl last night! I compsoed it by merging existing pictures of the cars and city, and creatign what I think the weapons sleector/stats and map might look like. It's a mock up of the 3rd GTA:SA city, Las venturra.
  20. Yay! Another DW cartoon that's funny as hell. I really liked the "editors mistakes" in the first one, they were pretty funny, random and unexpectedness. I can't wait to see more episodes! well, since you've already pulled two out of your... ouch, that'd hurt! I could waitness. ^_^
  21. It's a pretty neat banner, well layed out, the new borders is cool as well. I was thinking, if you wanted to make another version, put a stroke effect around your main text, a single black stroke would look effective, and it would make the text stand out more. It kind of blends into the lower text, do you see what I mean? Other than that, this banner is very effective, props to you.
  22. Great Movie. It is a week until Spidey 2 is released here, and I've seen everything that's, how should i put this, Blockbusterish? I went down to the Regent, which is the home of the more independent films here, and went along to a movie called Plots with a View. It's one of those movies that deosn't get alot of attention here, but it should. It was a witty story, with some great moments. It's all about the long overdue romance between Boris Plots, a funeral director, and Betty, his long time crush whop he still regrets not asking to dance 30 years prior. Now, she's very uhappily married to Mr. Hugh Rhys Jones, and he is a funeral director, and, when they fidn the spark of love between them, decide to fake Betty's death so they could "cruies away to Taihiti. It was very well written acted and funny. So fir anyone else who has seen it, what did you thinks?
  23. My favourite character in an anime series would be... wait for it... Shinji! I like Shinji because I can relate to him, he feels so alone and worthless, a bit like I used to before I found my calling. He's a realy storng character full of emotion, and relevance to me. The way he intereacts with new people, forms bonds, builds trust etc... it all really reminds me of where I once was, and I find that most appealing in an Anime character, one that you can relate to.
  24. The originator of this message was suffocated during the night, because HE was dumb enough to send it to only 2 people. And thus, idiots will be idiots.
  25.
Secondly. What's the deal with punctuation? Punctuation is something people should only have to worry about in school or work. I was called illiterate because of the reason that i cannot be bothered tapping the shift key or the caps key everytime a capital letter is needed. The Australian forum i use only worries about punctuation in terms of full stops and possibly commas. They also don't bag a person for not using appropriate punctuation. Because of these reasons i will not be seen on this site for a month in hope that these problems will be fixed.
Spelling and punctuation is a big plus for otakuboards! I hate going to forums where there is just one line and several omgs! It really wears on you and you get nothing out of it, except for maybe, a partially rotted brain. :p Oh, you will leave for a month, not even follow this up with a discussion and just hope everybody amends to your will? What kind of commitment do you have for this idea anyway? Perhaps you better just stick with the forums that give you such liberties as slack grammar, meaninglesss posts and tedium. There must be a billion forums that are liberal with their rules to this extent. OtakuBoards is NOT that place. Goodbye.
