Wall-E

WALL-E is the latest Pixar/Disney movie. It's about the last robot left on earth, a robot that develops feelings and emotion, a robot that looks intriguingly like Johnny-5 of Short Circut fame. That's a good thing, because Johnny 5 rocks, and this movie shoudl too. It's certainly a unique one. It's characters don't "talk," instead, pixar are using robotic sounds to portray the emotion of the characters. The basic plotline is that Johnny 5...er, I mean, WALL-E, Is left on earth to clean up our junk when we over-pollute the earth. After 700 years carrying on this futile task, he will meet a robot called EVE, which he will fall in love with. Sadly for Johnn..... WALL-E, EVE cannot compute emotion like he can, and his love goes unreciprocated... It will be a great movie just to see how Pixar deal wiht making a feature length film with characters that don't speak in the traditional sense. I'm also interested in how WALL-E will get the girl of his dreams (come on, you know he will ;) ) What's your take on WALL-E? (can a mod please fix up the capitals on the thread title? cheers!) Wall-E is the best it's going to get. There's a setting on the forum preventing "shouting" which will turn a thread title written in all caps into sentence case. -Petie P.S. I just realized your request was made 6 months ago (as was the original title change) but I guess the above explanation is still relevant since the thread title was never changed to the exact title you requested.
2. Killing a movie wil not stop people dissenting against religion, nor will allowing the movie to screen end the world. The sun will still rise, people of the faith will still go to church, and life as we know it will continue onward. It's just film, it's just entertainment. It's time we put things into perspective.
3. We didn't get the original trailer with Transformers over here, but early last month we got a teaser poster showing the destroyed New York. At first I thought it might be some kind of sequel to the Day After Tomorrow, but when I first saw the trailer, I realised that wasn't the case. Apparently, according to the description of the monster we have so far, it's as 'tall as a skyscraper,' And it's definately a sea monster. Look at the teaser poster and you'll se a trail that it left in the water, that leads right to the destruction. I'm definately seeing this film, solely because I don't know what I'm in for. the secrecy regarding the type of monster we'll see. I am sure, however, that this isn't Voltron.
4. I hope 2008 turns out to be a cracker year. It's election time over here in New Zealand and I resolve to help get my party of choice (National) into a term of office (although that will be some time away.) Then there's the Parachute music festival that I get to go to this year, and that will be a heap of fun. I've been waiting nearly 2 years to go back again. Other than that, I'm not sure what the year will bring, so I'll just take it as it comes.
5. I also took my name out of the Bible, kinda trendy, huh? It's from the book of ... wait for it... Jeremiah. I did want to reference the book of DeathKnight, but that was already taken.
6. I had a great Christmas. Here's my haul: -The Simpsons complete season DVD's; 2, 6 and 10. I got to pick three seasons between my two parents and I chose those ones because they had my favourite episodes on them. -Some boxer shorts :D -$40 bucks worth of petrol vouchers and $50 bucks spending. -Lynx Accelerate pack. -Striped hoody -Cool T-Shirts. Considering that I went broke buying my gifts for everyone, the spending money has bought me the most relief. ;)

I Am Legend
But anyway, I now charge you all to go see it. Less disappointing than "Beowulf" and more shiny and horror-tastic than say...."Hitman."
That should be a mark most films pass. Beowulf looks like the intro to a PS2 game and Hitman, well, is Hitman. :p I Am Legend is the one movie that I am most looking forward to next year. It will be interesting to see how long they can keep the movie engrossing with only one main character with no one else to bounce chemistry off. It'll be hit or miss, that's for sure.
8. I don't think there really is anything that keeps me here anymore. Like my Otakupedia entry states, I'm the member that has been largely overlooked. Perhaps that's because I've changed my name so often, or the lack of a more prolific posting frequency in later years. I'm not too sure. I still hang around from time to time, but other than an occasional glance, I think OB is done for me. It kind of gets tiring to post and post and get little in return. I know that seems incredibly self centered, but meh, I've got to the point where I just don't care anymore.
9. I'm not too sure that one is on the horizon this year because of the rather recent skin change to Indigo, but I'd love to see one as I've got a couple fo unique (not been done before) ideas that I'd like to submit for consideration. Thanks.
10. And I thought that NAMBLA was just a sick South Park joke. When I heard they were for real, I couldn't believe it. Groups like these make following my mantra of "I don't agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." hard, if not impossible. Surely there must be a way to shut dangerous groups like these down, with or without the confines of the law. :smirk:
11. Can we have a tag that would make text in between it cycle through the colour spectrum? Or perhaps one that would make the text pulse with a bright light every three seconds. It's sure to keep people awake, especially when they're reading long RPG-like paragraphs. And finally, a [ color=poo] tag that turns text a nutty brown. Just for kicks and immaturity, you know? If we added these elements to OB, it would be a better place to be. ;)
12. Westboro Baptist "Church" does not reflect Christianity, it is a heretical cult that cherry-picks scripture that conforms with it's perverted worldview and conveniently ignores those that don't. I'm glad that Westboro is getting it's just desserts. Their message of hate just causes more grief and agony for those who have lost loved ones in the Iraq war. It's not what Jesus would do, it's what a backward, in-bred, fanatically self-obsessed cult would do. I'm still waiting for the declaration that they will catch the next comet to Jupiter, have tea with Xenu, and order that the world worships the golden calf again. In all seriousness, i just hope that their ability to tarnish the church with their untruths is at least severely disabled.
13.
I would have never guessed that I was even being considered for a staff position. But then there's been a lot of things about joining this place that I never saw coming.
I saw it coming, you're a natural choice ;) I would accept the opportunity to mod. It'd be kinda cool to give something back to the community that I have been a part of for the great majority of my time online. If I were to moderate a forum, it'd probably be The Lounge or the Art Studio, since they're the two forums I most frequent. They've both got really great moderators though, so I'm not seeing a shortfall any time soon, lol. It'd be like OB: Remix, I guess. Same original flavour with a few little goodies thrown in. New challenges, more responsibility... Yeah, I'd be up for that.
14. It should all be illegal. Downloading music may not be physically stealing the CD but the effect is the same. It's taking the data that a company is selling, and enjoying it without paying for it. I can't stand those who claim to be the new Robin Hood because they download the CD after disagreeing with the price tag. If I disagree with the price, I don't buy it! Besides, Robin Hood didn't steal from the rich to give to Robin Hood, though music pirates might equate themselves with the poor, the analogy is ultimately flawed. Music might be hideously expensive, but it's the industry's right to charge what they wat for the product they put out. It's a luxury item. You don't have to buy it, and you won't die without it . I think the music priates have to stop the "Robin Hood" act and get over it already.
15. My name is Jeremiah. I'm running for president because I want to share my vision for a better board with the constituency and would relish the opportunity to make it a reality. We can learn from the past. One of my first tasks as a president would be to reinstate the link to OB on theotaku.com's sidebar. I would also work toward reinstating other gems like the classic OB Picture Forum, while leaving the trash, such as Newbie Lounge to its fate. I do not beleive that OtakuBoard's is dying, it is an ever-changing and vibrant forum, that has grown and matured over the years. Since the life of the forum ultimately rests with a flow of new-blood members to replace those who leave in their own good time, I would work to encourage member growth with a wide range of strategies, keeping the forums in step with time soe they remain an enticing attraction for anime fans and non anime fans alike. I look forward to representing the OtakuBoards as we look toward an exciting future, together.
16. Flowery vase are no match for a bull in a China shop. :p
17. Jumping the Shark is a term used to describe the moment when a television series has reached it's peak, and begun its slide into oblivion. It is a reference to oepisode of Happy Days when Fonzue jumps a shark on water skis, often considered to be the episode where Happy Days reached its peak, hence "jump the shark." This thread is for discussions of such shark jump moments.. When did a show you watch reach the point of jumping the shark? When did you throw your remote into the air and say "this show just doesn't feel the same anymore!" This is where I thinky my favourite shows went and jumped a shark... =================================== Lost: It jumped when Mikhail came back from the dead, Charlie drowned and Ben starts talking to Jacob, an invisible ghost with a thing for rocking chairs... Perhaps Mikhail's miraculous recovery is explained away enough but still... It can coem back if we see more of "smokey" and find mout a bit more about it and what it is... Dragon Ball Z: It should have stopped at Cell. He was designed to be the number one villain, having a design that incorporated all Goku's previous nemesis' into the one 'perfect' creation. Gohan's defeat of Cell should have ended the series... The ultimate villain defeated, and Goku passing the torch on to his son... but no. They decide that the show must go on and we get the ridiculous Great Saiyaman/Other World tournaments, Goku being dragged back from the dead... yet again (nobody ever stays dead, being dead is like going away camping in DBZ) and Majin Buu, the most ridiculous villain ever conceived. The moment Buu uttered "Buu make you go bye byes" was the moment I could no longer keep my DBZ obsession alive, it completely ruined the series for me. I laughed when Buu destroyed the earth, because I knew they would all be back and this "dramatic" series twist would just be reversed by good ole "deus-ex-dragon." Rugby World Cup 2007:* New Zealand , cup favourites get booted out in the quarter finals, by France, who have been mediocre in the year leading up to the cup, but somehow *magically* get the measure of us when it counts... Yeah, this is a case of sour grapes, not a real jump... :p =============================== The sharks are jumping, report your sightings here!
18. FTW. ;)
19. I couldn't resist!
20. I would support a move back to the old system of separate forums for separate series, I felt that it worked better than the current system and allowed for more broader discussions on the topics the forum covered. Multiple discussions in the one single topic can become messy, it is also more difficult and cluttersome to dive into a thread with a new discussion on the topic, without derailing current ones. Would it not be easier to manage multiple threads than one where discussion swerves all over the place? I would go with forums for more popular series, and multiple threads in the lounge for less popular ones.
21. Okay so I have been really busy with work this week and then I remembered that my graphic worm sub was due. I can get a good worm sub done in a couple of days. If you must keep the ball rolling however, you might want to just skip me. If you do decide to skip me, I wouldn't mind getting another slot, missing these deadlines is something I do not plan on doing again. >
22. I like the name Entertainment Center or even something like Entertainment Hub. Media Center I'm not too keen on, sounds like something Microsoft would conjure up for Windows. :p
23. I'm nominating PoisonTongue, better known these days as The Blue Jihad. I've always enjoyed reading Alex's opinions and theories, they are some of the more well-written on OB. Wether he is portraying the Empire of Star Wars as the force of good, or putting forward connections linking The Matrix's Agent Smith to Captain Ahab from Moby Dick, Alex makes his points convcincinlgy, and interesting at the same time. Alex is also brutally honest. He will tell you, straight up, what his opinion on something or someone is, and he doesn't mince words or sugar-coat his opinion at all. I admire that.
24.
Oh I don't know, usually the people portrayed on America's Most Wanted have already been tried and convicted instead of like the people on 'catch-a-predator' who have yet to be convicted of anything. The first one is going after someone who already is guilty where the second is attempting to catch them in the act, a position that is open to mistakes, especially when most of those people on the show are not genuine law enforcement.
Both shows used a setup operation, with faked internet chats, that lured predators into showing up to the setup for a little preteen action. This is why I was a little confused and a perceived double standard. I went and had a closer look at how AMW conducted it's stings, and yeah, they were vastly different. AMW followed law enforcement carrying out the sting operations, to the letter of the law, while NBC dateline just took it upon themselves to go all vigilante and lynch some pedos. I can now see why the Fox didn't raise an eyelid, yet the Peacock raised hell.
25.
I don't know, Premonition...I've been thinking about changing our name to FanBoards for quite a while. Then we'd have a truly fun site! :blulaugh:
That would rock so nerdcore. I'm seconding....or thirding the idea :p
