1. Bah, in England we don't get ANY anime magazines unless they've been imported from the US. I have read Animerica, I have a copy somewhere that I managed to find, and I love it to bits. But maybe I only treasure it because it's anime... It's a possibility! O_o *pouts* Consider yourselves lucky people!
2. My parents don't "adore" it, but I suppose they've come to accept it by now. My parents aren't the kind to say "no you can't watch that" -- they're more likely to say "I hope you grow out of that eventually" But they haven't said that either... O_o So I'm safe! ^__^
3. Yeah, I do think, as Queen Asuka said, that anime is another way to see into another culture, in the form of entertainment. I mean, I don't often get arrogant, but I've seen people who do. *shudders* Scary... very scary... And they're usually wrong anyway... O_o I also think that a lot of anime (not all of it granted) shows us a part of Japanese culture - since I first got into anime I've found out so much about Japan as a place. ^___^ Being a linguist, anime has also propelled me into an interest in different asian languages. So, yeah, all in all, I'd say anime does make you a little more open-minded as long as the evil eye of arrogance doesn't get there first ^_^
Originally posted by Queen Asuka Although, it does get annoying when those who are SUPER into anime think Japan is the coolest country in the world, worship it, want to live there, and think everything Japanese is God's gift to mankind. That sort of aggravates me.
Talk about swiping the words off my keyboard before I've even typed them! O_o! Although I'm guilty of wanting to go live there... but that's the culture aspect more than anything else! ^___^() Honest!
4. "Hey, are you still sore because I can act better than you?" "You only wish..." With Zell's annoying chatter following them, the pair continued along their chosen path. The trail was overgrown, and the tendrils of plant life around them seemed to sway as though they were alive. Suddenly Sephiroth held out a hand in warning, a finger to his lips. "Shhhhh!" Zell was instantly hushed. "Why?" he whispered. "D'you hear something?" Then, with an enormous laugh, Sephiroth stood up again. "No, I just wanted you to SHUT UP!" "Well, ya just had to say so..." Sighing, Sephiroth shook his head. "Would you have listened if I did?" "Well... no... but...!" "So shut up and let's get going!" After a few seconds... "AHHHH!" "WHAT?!" "IT'S ALIVE!! NOBODY SAID IT WAS ALIVE!!" Sephiroth relaxed his sword and sweatdropped briefly. "What...?" "THE TREE'S ALIVE!!" "No, Zell... the tree is not alive..." "But it is!! I just saw it move!!" Zell pointed at a, now prone, twig in their path. Frowning... Sephiroth went to investigate...
5. I think suicide is a question of fear, pain, hurt and a lot of other things. Say, if you're scared of something... you'd run right? I know I would... I think there are always other ways out of suicide, it's never the one choice -- but you've got to think for a moment and wonder, are any of the alternatives batter? It may not be the "only" way, but maybe it beats the heck out of the others? If a person doesn't want to live, that's their choice... And who are you to say that they're wrong? Surely they know their own life better than anyone else?
Originally posted by shadowfire Just because you you have a rough or depressing life does not give YOU the right to take away such precious life that was given to you. That is NOT your decision to make.
I think it does... it's called "free will" by most people I believe...
6. Heh, maybe it seems a little grand and pompus, but I've always considered myself a fire element - leadership and all that. I mean, if I'm not in charge of something, then I want to be! I've got the whole temper thing down pat too ;) O_o! And Sagitarius is a fire sign ^__^ so, yeah... there ya go!
7. Again, Auron sweatdropped. "Thumb wrestle?" "Yeah! Sure! Thumb wrestling! Like arm wrestling, just using your thumbs!" Both blinked suddenly as, when Zell shifted to demonstrate thumb wrestling to a confused Auron, he nudged the Zidane and Cecil cut-outs, and they too fell to the floor with a poof of dust. "Yeah... and where'd Sephiroth go? So much for four on one..." He paused. "Who's making all these freakin' cut-outs anyway?!" Behind them they heard a snicker as Vivi and Eiko snipped their respective pairs of scissors dangerously. "And who let the demon children loose with sharp, pointy objects...?"
8. "Well... urm... I'm not a cardboard cutout..." said Zell, prodding the Rinoa cut-out with a foot. He looked up at the rest of Tantalus who were watching him curiously. "Urmm... I hope she gets back soon... I'm feeling a little outnumbered here... Four on one isn't wonderful odds..."
9. Name: Ryan Thraves Codename: Kinetic Position: Electrician Age: 16 Height: 5 foot 8 inches Bio: Led a normal life as a regular teenager, excelling in computing, before stumbling across something which sparked him off, leading him closer and closer to the question "What is the Matrix"? And eventually, the answer found him... Description: A fairly young and timid boy, not really up for the rough-and-tumble life of dodging bullets or risking his neck inside the matrix, but he's one of those people who does what has to be done. Blonde haired and green eyed, intelligent and with a gift for computing and electronics. Because he's been out for a relatively short period of time, and is quite young, he's treated as the younger brother by those about him. Time Awake: 7 months, 5 days Weapon preferences: I don't know a lot about guns and stuff... So I'm going to assume he prefers machine-gun type things - lotsa bullets really quickly... forgive my ignorance ^_^
10. Suddenly, Joe found himself trapped between two evils. The scary blonde guy, who had paused as Xaphania spoke, and was now trying to kick the door off its hinges in his attempt to get to Joe before the vampire did. And there was Xaphania, having promised not to kill him in a rather pathetic, and cryptic kind of way. "I...I don't want to..." his eyes were wide, like some kind of rabbit caught in headlights. Xaphania's face was serious. "C'mon kiddo, this is no time to be messing me around. You either go with me or him." Joe paused, totally and utterly confused. What the heck was going on? Suddenly, with a sudden burst forward he pushed past Xapnania, braced a foot on his window ledge, and pushed off, willing to jump a whole storey in his bid for freedom. Xaphania turned sharply as he leapt past her with a curse, watching him land with an almighty thump in the grass, pick himself up, and break away at a run. "What's he so afraid of...?" she murmured, before hurling a little abuse at the blonde, still kicking away at the door, and taking off after her "prey". OOC: Oekakiotaku, I don't think the blonde is a hunter... because they want to keep the vampires alive don't they? I think he's in league with the daywalkers... in that they want to make the virus, they just want joe so the vampires/hunters can't get to him first... i think... O_o Geist can correct me if I'm wrong X_x
11. I think "legends of the twilight" is the animated version of .hack//dusk... but i could be wrong, so don't quote me on that O_o!
12. Basically, the .hack world is like this: .hack//DUSK == Is the manga, and I think it's being animated into a TV Series, it's set after the original TV Series .hack//SIGN -- it's also known as .hack//UDEDEN (udeden being the japanese word for dusk/dawn - from what I can gather) .hack//SIGN == Is the TV series most of us are referring to when we discuss .hack, it's the one including Tsukasa, Mimiru, Bear and BT (and numerous other characters...) .hack//INFECTION or .hack//MUTATION == are the PS2 games, there's actually 4, but I don't know what the rest of the names are. I think, in chronological order, they're set after .hack//SIGN but I don't know about where they are in relation to .hack//DUSK .hack//LIMINALITY == is the OVA set at the same time as the four .hack PS2 games. It shows what is happening in the real world as opposed the games, which show what is happening in "The World" -- The good thing is that, with every part of the game (of which there are four) you get a disk of the OVA. So you don't have to deal out extra cash for them! ^___^ There we go ^_^ that's everything I know - if anyone knows differently and can correct me, I would appriciate it!
13. Name: Sonya Wooden (Shard) Age: 17 Description: Short haired red head, speaks English fluently but with a distinct German lilt, does the whole rebel thing with dark eyeliner, spiked hair, dark clothes etc. Brief Bio: Sonya's never been outside the Matrix before... but she knows there's something else. She's always been a computer junkie, whether to do schoolwork or moderate-level hacking. She's not amazing, but her gut instincts have always driven her onwards. Personality: Closed and harsh, with a chip on her shoulder -- but once someone gains her trust, or she has nobody left to turn to, she's a surprisingly open and pleasant person to know and be around
14.
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve Get rid of the whole damn forum!.... Ah that'll never happen though... My dream is over.
*chuckles* Why do that? Then I'd be homeless and alone ;) Anyway~ I agree with Milliefan. However, you really don't need to notify a mod. The fact is that most people don't read the rules before posting, so if you point the said newbie in the right direction they'll get the idea and do it properly from then onwards. Not a drastic situation... The only case in which to notify a mod would be if they basically said "haha, i don't care" and carried on posting in your roleplay. That's harassment and is against the rules. I suppose that's my 2 cents ^_^
15. "No way, man," groaned Toad, casting a look towards Sabretooth. "You guys don't seem to understand the meaning of the word bored! Bo-r-ed! Y'know? Like, with nothing to do?" Sabretooth's reply was to emit a low growl from his throat while continuing to glare at Toad. "Wassup?" Mockingly, Toad flicked his tongue out towards Sabretooth, chortling quietly as he sucked his tongue back in again. "Am I grossing you out yet? Hmm?" Again, Sabretooth growled, this time baring teeth in Toad's direction. Toad gulped a little. "Okay, okay! Geez! Don' take it so personal, man..." He paused, absently flicking his tongue at another fly. "Where are all these freakin' flies coming from...?" "Who cares?" "Well... me for a start... pretty tasty!" Another pause, before Toad whined, "Aren't they done yet??" "WILL YOU SHUT UP?!" "Oops... shutting up!"
16. Having practically shaken the feeling off, Joe eventually went to bed. He had school tomorrow, and he was already going to be walking round like a zombie. Falling asleep in class would not be a good thing. That sleep lasted for a few hours at least... Rolling over with a groan, Joe looked at the digital clock on his bedside table. 4am... He pressed his pillow to his face with a moan. Why him? Why why why?? But what had woken him up? Shivering in the early morning cold, he went to his window. For once there was nobody there. Everything was quiet. So what had woken him up? Joe was by no means a light sleeper and it usually took his father two or three attempts to wake him in the morning. He opened his door, to listen. Maybe they had a burgalar... There were noises lower through the house. But not burgalar noises - not unless they had some very stupid burgalars. Two male voices, one which he recognised as his father's, were argueing. But at four in the morning? What were they, insane? Creeping down the stairs, Joe hoped to get a better idea of what they were argueing about. A stair creaked under his foot, and he thought nothing of it until the other voice, who had been in the middle of an almost coherent yell, froze. Joe held his breath, he didn't know why. Probably because he was supposed to be asleep, tucked up in bed. Did he even want to know what was going on? If he went back to sleep now, could he convince himself that it was a bad dream? Suddenly the kitchen door opened sharply, and footsteps came towards him. Before he even had time to think about it, a blonde figure he did not recognise was standing at the foot of the stairs. "Ahh, Joesph Dunning. At last we meet." The figure's smile was cold, curled and calculating. Joe blinked a few times. "Uhh... who're you?" By this point Joe's father had also appeared. Turning to the blonde, he said, "I thought I told you you weren't to speak to him." He turned to Joe sharply, "Go to bed Joe." "No, no, no, don't go anywhere Joseph. I have a few things to talk to you about." The blonde tapped on his wrist quietly, where a watch would be, as though he was expressing a lack of time. "You see Joseph, you're a very special little boy." "He doesn't have to hear this!" Suddenly enraged, the figure turned towards Joe's father, his fist solidly connecting with the man's face, sending him reeling backwards into the wall, to slump down it, unconscious. "I hate it when people don't listen to me..." Joe started forward towards his father with a yelp, but was stopped by the restraining arm of the blonde. "He's just unconscious... you have far more important things to be dealing with right now." As he didn't recieve a reply from the gobsmacked Joe, he continued. "As I was saying before that interruption, you are a very special little boy my friend." He paused. "Have you heard of the vampire virus?" Dumbly, Joe nodded. Of course he had... who hadn't? "Well, those disgusting beasts are trying to make an antidote. Certain people, people like you, have a special strand of blood that they need to make this atrocious concoction. They will be coming for you Joe, you should be thankful I got here first." "But... why me?" The blonde shrugged. "How long is a piece of string? Fate, luck, chance. Any of those things. Now come on." Taking a secure grip of Joe's wrist, the man started to walk forward. But Joe had had enough of this, with a cry he wrenched his arm free and turned to run pell mell up the stairs, coming to his bedroom door and locking it behind him. And, at the end of the day, the blonde was only human, so he stood there slamming his fist against the door and cursing and yelling. But at the end of the day, that was all he could do. EDIT: Ick... a little bit long there, I just wanted to get my character rolling a little
17. Yeah, the Year 11 kids left school today for this year. Last year I was the same, but since most of my friends were coming back to Sixth Form I really didn't have that much to worry about. ^_^ We signed school shirts and stuff, when we left middle school we all signed each others homework diarys (even though we were ALL going to the same high school O_o) Next year's gonna suck... I'm planning to be half a country away from all my friends when I go to university O_o!
18. It was dark by the time Joe finished up with his school-work. Streetlights shone brightly outside his bedroom window as he stood, working the stiffness out of his knees and pulled the curtains closed. Why was he working so hard? He didn't really know... It was just something... something his mother would have wanted him to do. Just as he pulled the curtains to, a lone figure outside caught his eye. Long dark trenchcoat, smoking a cigarette. Long tendrils of smoke coiled into the air, as the figure glanced up, seeing Joe at the window. Perhaps this was the reason the figure hurried away suddenly, the clicking shoes audible in the morning silence, even through the glass of Joe's window. Thoughtfully, and a little on edge, Joe pulled the curtains completely closed. Something was going on... it had been for a while... people were watching him... But why?
19. OOC: Yeah, Ginny's right... we can't just pretend Zeh is here... And I'm spotting some major problems here too seeing as how Mei hasn't posted in a week now... *panics* This means I'm a little under pressure here... *feels suddenly alone* :nervous: If anyone thinks I (and Mei when she returns) can manage it then by all means keep going as we are. I wouldn't mind that as long as challenges aren't decided through post quantity. Seeing as (partially, along with superior post quality ^_^) the way we lost before was because we were waiting for Mei and AJeh to post. >_< I don't wanna see this die, believe you me... But I'm willing to stick as teams for the time being, if that's decided. But I reckon it would be better to merge into a six person team. At least then there's no stressing for Tantalus over waiting for Avalanche to finish a challenge, considering our lower numbers and such.
20. "Up!! Up further!! I can see something!" "If we go up much further we'll be flying in space you idiot!" "No, keep going Zack, I think he's got something." At that point Rinoa chose to burst in, panicked. "Cid's been turned into a Cait Sith, he's really pissed off, and he's going to take it out on all of us!!" "So you're telling me that..." Rinoa nodded. "Yes, he's just made this challenge an eviction challenge." With that thought everyone looked to one another with a sense of dread. "Is that bad?" inquired Vivi, not really understanding the concept of "eviction". "With all the time we've spent looking for Chocobo Paradise... Tatalus is bound to be way ahead of us..." "Then keep going! We've got no time to lose!!" declared Zell, lunging towards the controls only to have Zack swat him back smartly with a glare. "Yeah!" Suddenly, the Ragnarok broke the cloud line, a stereotypically beautiful rainbow touching the ground beneath them, and a herd of yellow, fluffy chocobos lazing about. "It's beautiful!" "It is that...!" "Ohhhhh, I remember now!!" "You do?!" "Sure! Over there!" Vivi pointed excitedly and jumped up and down a few times, indicating a sheltered, cave-like crevice in the continued mountainside. "He lives in there!" "This guy we're supposed to race?" "Yeah! His name is Sora, and he likes to feed the chocobos with dead peppers, so he spends all day digging them up for them. That's why they like him so much!" Zell scratched his head. "And here was me thinking he had some spiritual understanding with the chocobos or something. Realy what he was doing was bribing them. No wonder he has no other friends..." "C'mon Zack, set us down over there. We need to talk to this, Sora." "Aye aye Cap'n," said Zack, teasing slightly, steering the Ragnarok to land near the aforementioned cave.
21. Nezumi was always running messages, despite being a Tunneller. "Nezumi do this!" "Nezumi do that!" "Take the message you RAT!" Nezumi was a genuinely caring boy by nature, not especially well built for arguing, and maybe that was why he was always the one to do all the running. Pushing a manhole cover aside, Nezumi hoisted himself up onto the street. He liked it above ground... it wasn't so dark... darkness confused him a little, so he tried to stay away from it whenever he could. Then, suddenly, from somewhere to his right, an immense battle-cry sounded, causing Nezumi to take to his feet and sprint towards it. He found the source of the disagreement and stopped dead, blinking hard. Somehow Alex had found the nerve to take down one of the youths, but there were three more to contend with. To fight, or be silent? He didn't want to have to decide, but Alex's life seemed to depend on the decision. Lunging forward, the small boy pulled up the brush Alex had been using to sweep up and cracked another boy across the head with it, causing him to hit the ground with a thump. "You can't hurt him!" The two remaining boys, now enraged, glared between the rats. "Why in the hell not?!" "I have a message for his boss, and I can't find him. So, I need to ask him." Nervous at his own words, Nezumi adjusted the grip on his sweeping brush. "Just leave us alone!" "Now you get this straight, you little-" "WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?!" Nezumi blinked in confusion, turning towards the huge voice. "My boss..." murmured Alex, a twinge of fear tainting the words. "Oh..." I'll tell you what's going on!" barked one of the boys, helping his groaning comrades to their feet. "Those two... those Rats attacked us! Next time it happens I'll pull their brains inside out with my own mind!!" The boss turned a cold eye on the two smaller boys, "Don't worry lad... I have half a mind to do that m'self." Suddenly, he snatched the brush from Nezumi, glaring at him. "And what're you doing up here? Shirking work are you?!" "N..no sir. I have a message... from underground..." "I don't want no excuses!" Grabbing them both by their ears, and apologising to the youths profusely, he dragged Alex and Nezumi below ground, bellowing loudly if they fell. "Maybe a little confinement'll show you some manners lads!" he yelled, throwing them into the room they stopped at and bolting the door soundly behind them. "Maybe I'll not feed ya neither!" Shaw blinked as the two pulled themselves upright, grumbling. "Uhh... Hi guys..." "Your boss," declared Nezumi, turning to Alex. "Your boss is an official madman. And I won't take that back while I'm still here breathing..."
22. *rolls eyes* And that... my dear friend Bishie... would have been best saved for discussion in a PM O_o Regardless, a quick update for all the participants, I am in EXAMS all next week... so this rp will be put off until at least: Saturday 24th May Sorry about the delay, but I figure it best to start this rp when I have time to start it well. Any questions (or futher sign-ups) should be posted here or sent to me via PM ^_^ Don't worry! This isn't dead!! :p I'm just pressed for time ^____^
23.
Originally posted by XxmagentaxX Whats everyones problem with Sailor Moon? have you seen it uncut? Its actually pretty good....
Well, no I haven't, but I really don't want to. It's just a thing I have, Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z... I know people who disagree with me, but I think there's much more out there in the world of anime than that. Then again, I have been tainted by godawful dubbing, so maybe I would like it if I saw it. *shrugs* It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.
Originally posted by XxmagentaxX and about it being dubbed they arent gonna screw with the characters cuz its not gonna be put on TV!
Again, valid point. I've never seen anything that Right Stuff has done. But some of the art in Gravi just screams "girl posture" to me. Like they were preparing for Shuuichi to be dubbed as a girl. I dunno... that was just my take on it... Maybe it'll be safe because it's Shounen ai. I hope so anyway!! ^___^;;
24. Wow, this thread is over a month old now O_o Well... I gotta say Gravi isn't my "favourite" anime, I mean I've seen much better. But then again... I've also seen much worse... *cough**cough*SailorMoon*cough**cough* Yeah it was okayish, like an anime you watch when you're bored. I don't hate it, but I wouldn't kill myself to see it. (To see it dubbed however, now this is another matter entirely...) When Gravi's dubbed, I reckon they're gonna make Shuu-chan a girl though. The Western market being homophobic as they are. But then that takes away half of the point of the whole "forbidden love" angle. They'd need to find another way to make it forbidden or something... I dunno... Anyone wanna contribute to that train of thought...? On the point of favourite characters - my favourite character has to be Ryuichi... He's just a total utter nutball... And I love the way he plays with words, but then words intrigue me as a person sooo.... *slinks off, a little embarassed at her "words" rant*
