There's no problem with the Spanish thing at all, that's why I said the stuff about "any" nationality. I welcome multi-lingual posters ^_^! It keeps me on my toes! As for the Japanese, you can write it in English with a colour key if you want. So "Japanese" would just be English in a different colour.

Gaming Recent Final Fantasy changes (FFX, etc.)
Originally posted by dark_serena I can't stand linear RPGs. World Maps (like Star Ocean: 2nd Story, Xenogears, pre-FFX FFs, Chrono Cross, etc.)...those games, most likely for that reason alone, will remain on my favorites list.
Then.... umm... "for that reason alone"? *pauses* No, I can't understand that... Why would you ONLY like a game because it has a world map? Surely there are other reasons you like the games you like? Characters, graphics, or plot maybe? And, like Ginny said before, the areas in FFX are like the world maps, huge and roaming expanses, but less pixelly. No, I certainly don't miss the world maps... But if you do, I won't argue the point.
Originally posted by dark_serena And for the ppl that have a 'hard time' figuring out what to do in past FF battles: just pause the game and THINK.
Yes, that would be me... And the first thought into my mind isn't to pause, but to hurry up and DO something. I like that it's speed of the character, not speed of the player, that seems to matter in FFX. I'm not the quickest finger in the West when it comes to PS games, so I find that a welcome idea. I'm not dissing the other games, far from it, I'm a fan of FF sure enough. I just don't really think FFX is as bad as you make it out to be. Honest I don't... -
::PLAYERS SO FAR:: Okay, submitted sign-ups have been recieved from: Braidless Baka - Nathan Carraway/Sonada Ryuichi Bishie - Lain Dekin/Aizawa Kane Walnut - Nuna McFaris/Haskoylu Yuki erinzyger - Michela Geraro/Minamino Suzaku Geist - Dominic White/Tamura Miyuki G. Sign-ups will remain open for a while yet, but I would also like the sign-up ASAP ^_^;; ANYONE can sign up - not just those listed above!! ::THE EMAIL:: Subject: Kyouiku Exchange Attention student, As you know, you have been chosen to prticipate in an overseas exchange between Kyouiku High School and numerous sister schools throughout the globe. Places are limited, as you also know, and the departure date is drawing near. Teachers from all your schools have given me lists of information, including email addresses, from students interested in the exchange, and I am seeking confirmation of these lists. Please reply to this email indicating whether you wish to participate so host families can be informed and pairs can be made. I also ask that students write an introduction in English for their host, so interests and so on can be matched evenly. Include any detils you deem necessary (allergies, likes and dislikes, gender and so on.) I look forward to hearing from all of you. Yours sincerly, Arisugawa Izumi (Kyouiku High - Headmistress) ::THE RULES:: Well, as you have no doubt gathered, this roleplay is about an exchange trip to Japan. Really, you will be playing two characters, the host and the hosted student. You can be from anywhere in the world, and any language can be your native one. (Aside from Japan... that would be kind of pointless...) However, your character must be fairly good with English, simply for the fact we're roleplaying in English. However there's nothing to stop any linguistic slip-ups if your character develops from it ;) Remember, we'll be going out on trips and there'll be quizzes and things, so they won't be in-school 24/7! As opposed to the regular sign-up of statistics, I (and Arisugawa-san) would prefer a reply email, outlining Name, Age, Bio, Location and anything else you feel is important- How you incorperate all that is up to you. I also want you to include a regular bio of your Japanese counter-part, stating Name, Age, Gender, Bio - But that can be done in the regular format. Scroll a little further for an example ;) ::MY CHARACTERS:: ::HOSTED CHARACTER:: Subject: Re: Kyouiku Exchange Yes, I would still like to confirm my interest in the exchange trip. The following is the description for my host! ^_^ Thanks! Yours, Nathan Carraway Penningworth High School, IOWA, USA ---- Dear Host, Hi! I'm Nathan and I'm really pleased to be coming to Japan for the year! I'm glad you're willing to have me, and would like to get to know you a little before I arrive! My full name is Nathan Chirstopher Carraway. I'm 17 years old and I live in Iowa, which is a state in America. I enjoy playing basketball and computer games in my free time, and my favourite subject at school is Computing. I also like anime, but you probably think that's obsessive, right? I live at home with my Mom and my little brother Robert, who's only 7. He's really excited and wants me to bring lots of souvenirs back for him. He's really into Pokemon and Digimon >_< I can't stand it! Well, anyway, I hope to hear from you soon ^_^ Reagrds, Nathan! ::HOSTING CHARACTER:: Name: Sonoda Ryuichi (Surnames first!) Age: 17 Gender: Male Bio: Dreams of being a computer programmer one day and moving to America to "make his fortune". His parents are very liberal in the way they've raised Ryuichi and his 13-year-old sister, Hikaru, giving them a less traditional view of life. Both the children revel in "Western" culture and enjoy learning English. Hikaru is really jealous that Ryuichi's hosting an American and not her (even though her English isn't "quite" up to scratch), and will be constantly trying to elbow in on the action. Ryuichi's parents are also, while liberal in the effect of western culture, quite hopeless at English as a language, and so Ryuichi will end up being the main translator for Nathan during the trip. ~~~~~~~~~~ Well, there you have it... Queries or help with names, just PM me - I'll do my best to help! Ganbatte! (Good luck!)

Well... I figure you've gotta tell her - you'll never know if you don't try. And if she likes Noah, does he like her back? If not, what've you got to lose (apart from your pride? ^_^) I say go for it - if nothing else you'll not kill yourself wondering "what if!?"

OOC: Ohhh this is sooo funny!! ^_^ Nice Domon, you had me in fits!! *cracks knuckles* Okay, kissing scene... O_o! IC: Zell blinked once or twice. What did he say? KISSING?! No, no, no, no, no this was NOT FUNNY!! "What the HELL did you say?!" "You heard me," growled Sephiroth, leaning in closer still. "The things I do for my team," wailed Zell quietly, steeling himself for the worst. Then - suddenly - a sound from the audience appeared. "BOOOOOOOOO!" "Who dost dare disturb my silence?!" yelled Sephiroth in fury, turning sharply towards the audience. Zell was amazed at Spehiroth's ad-lib, he hadn't missed a beat! Sephiroth glared about the audience while Zell was continuing to play dead. It was some little punk kid at the back, throwing popcorn on those below him. "I said BOOOOOOO!! Your acting sucks!!" "My dearest Juliet," cooed Sephiroth, sounding almost happy. "I must leave you for a mere moment, but I will be back soon for your extravegant death scene." "Good!" hissed Zell, feeling himself lowered again, and Sephiroth standing up. "My acting's too cool to miss!" "This is stress relief," hissed Sephiroth to Zell, eyeing the kids who seemed to be trying to inch away. "You should be thankful... I don't have to kill you right now..." "Hurry back pumpkin," teased Zell, listening to one of the kid's friends continue to boo. "Don't worry... I have team points to claim..." Spehiroth announced, striding forward towards the boys. They were attempting to escape out of the theatre doors as he cornered them. "Now," he said to them pointedly, "Hast thou any comments to make about me or my sweet dear Juliet, who is about to die?" He paused. "Like you...?"

OOC: My German's a little rusty... What does the title mean? And what's up with the points thing? *is curious* What would we want to buy? IC: Omi jogged up the street, red cheeked and panting hard. "No...!" he moaned, glancing at his watch. "I can't be late! Not on my second freaking day! No no noooo!" Sharply he stepped up to the door of the flowershop and pushed it open, the door tinkling loudly to signal his entrance. Looking up, Ken smiled slightly, a little embarassed as Omi bowed low. "Sorry, I know I'm late!" "Uhh... Calm down. You're not late... You still have five minutes before you start." Ken chuckled as he wrapped some flowers in the crackling paper and put them to one side. He smirked slightly, amused by Omi's embarassment. "This is your first job is it?" Omi nodded, walking to the door interconnecting the shop and a back room, and tossing his schoolbag inside. "Yeah, it is." "Then don't worry so much about being a few minutes late." He pointed up at the clock. "Besides, that clock's ten minutes out, get here on time and the old lady praises you for being early. And you've got space to be ten whole minutes late." Omi grinned slightly, still a little embarassed, while he found his apron and pulled it over his head, tieing the strings at the back. "So, are we in alone?" "No," mused Ken absently. "There's still that other guy... I keep trying to remember his name." Ken paused, thinking hard. "I wanna say Larry..." "I don't think it was Larry..." Ken shrugged. "If he doesn't get here soon he will be late."
Uhh...Pysco? Are we going to start or is this thing dead? Can't we at least start with just three people so that we can play while we're waiting for somebody else to join?
I've been dying to say that for a while... but alas... I cannot double post *seconds the motion and indicates her continued involvement*

Zell stared blankly at Sephiroth for a few moments, blinking a few times. "What? That's not in the play!" he hissed. "And you would know?" snapped Sephiroth, not bothering to whisper and causing a few audience members to glance at one another curiously. "Well yeah! That's the balcony scene you moron! I don't even know you're there!" Hitching up his dress Zell stalked over. "Your next line was supposed to be: 'Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this?'" Zell's voice rose in outrage at how purely uncultured Sephiroth was proving to be. "Why don't you say the line properly you ninny!" "What did you call me?!" "I called ya a ninny!" "I'm the ninny, but you're the one in a dress?" asked Sephiroth, raising an eyebrow in amusement. "So now you're calling me a ninny?!" Sephiroth smirked, brushing back his hair with a hand. "Apparently so." Hitching up his dress again, Zell rushed over and slapped Sephiroth hard. "That's for being a NINNY!" Zell cried in outrage, his voice suddenly becoming suspiciously feminine, his eyes dark beneath random lashing of eyeshadow and mascara. Sephiroth paused for a moment, his hand to a reddening cheek. Dumbly he looked at Zell, at a loss for a comeback. Quickly he muttered, "Uhh... Sh-shall I hear more, or... umm... shall I speak at... this...?" Zell smiled sweetly, rearranging his dress with a certain female grace. "Whatever you like, hunny, I'll just go back to my place now." With that he winked in a flirting manner and hurried back across the stage, his high-heeled shoes clicking against the floor of the stage, and leaving Sephiroth totally gobsmacked. "Umm... yeah... whatever works..."

*shrugs* Nope, not yet, I just figured it would be kinda comedic ^_^ A klutz who screws up at the worst possible moment

Personally, I download music, but a lot of it is stuff I would never be able to get hold of easily. J-pop for example... There is no WAY I'd be able to get half the stuff I have (I shall quote no figures) unless I shipped out to Japan for a month and paid a LOT of money for excess baggage on the way back. And that is not happening for a loooooong time. And if it ever did, of course I would buy the stuff - I'm a fan - I'm willing to support the artists. And, to be quite honest, I only download stuff I wouldn't buy anyway. Let's say I download a whole movie soundtrack - which would cost me about £15 - there's no way I'm going all the way to the local shopping centre to buy it - even if I didn't download it I'd not buy it. So if I don't download it I would never hear it. I'm sure if I were an artist I'd prefer people hearing my music for free than never hearing it at all. After all, that's what I made it for, right? To be listened to, not (entirely) to generate profit. (Though, money is always nice ;)) They're not losing any money from me downloading my music if you look at it that way.

Intriguing Kouby... but I've gotta ask, would you be willing to accept any characters like "Davey"? I'd be willing to take that on if you'd like - if not I'm up for being a vampire or something ^_^ I'll post a profile when you let me know! EDIT: Or - strange thought - could I actually "be" Davey? -
Gaming Recent Final Fantasy changes (FFX, etc.)
Braidless Baka replied to Erika's topic in Noosphere
I dunno, I think a lot of what they've done is an improvement. I mean, I don't know about anyone else, but the world maps where a bad thing for me, because I kept getting lost on them. Then I'd meet too many monsters and die. So the world map, by me, isn't missed. I prefer having my path dictated without too much hassle, and there's still lots of oppertunities to level up along the way. I also like the fact that it's very turn-based in FFX, I mean, now it's more strategic. It's not a matter of "Oh dear Lord it's gonna kill me - hit a button!! -- Oops wrong button... [insert random swearing and cussing here]" - it's more a case of "Hmm... I need to do something so it doesn't kill me, but I can go through every possible option before I decide to do it. -- Ah ha! Gotcha ya little buggar!! [insert random happy dance here]" I prefer the voices over just subtitles. A) I don't have to strain my eyes so hard to read subtitles and miss them. B) It works better with the new CG graphics. It would be severely wierd if they just had the subtitles. Heh, FFX got me into the world of Final Fantasy though, so I'd be biased no matter what. The whole thing is just so... gorgous... If I had to pick a fault with the game, I could only pick one. They're way too confident with their ingame graphics. There are certain scenes which just deserved proper CG and didn't get it.
Originally posted by dark_serena I read in an interview with a few from the team that they purposely eliminated popular elements from previous FF titles in FFX.
Was that on the internet or what? I wanna have a read of that if you remember where it is. That's not something they would do, they want the game to sell, not suck. And they're well practised at their trade by now to know the difference between sellable and sucky. And even if they did get rid of popular elements, they wouldn't admit it in an interview, I don't think. -
OOC: I know I left it to you Domon, but *sniggers* I just had to, it just struck me! I'll let you pick the scene ^_^ *chuckles* IC: "Excuse me?" Blinking, Zell turned from Sephiroth to look at a slightly balding man with a clipboard in his hand. "Yeah?" "You two here for Survivor?" The two nodded slightly. "Well it says here you two gotta perform scenes of your choice from Romeo and Juliet." He paused slightly, looking from one shocked contestant to the other. "It's Shakespeare and-" "I know who wrote it!" barked Sephiroth sharply. The man paled a few shades. "Well uhh, it says here that Tantalus has to play Romeo and Avalanche is playing Juliet." Zell looked to Sephiroth, blushing beet red. "I don't believe this! How come I have to play the chick?!" Sephiroth alowed himself a smirk at Zell's obvious embarassment. Although, he was a little worried at having to play Romeo opposite the blonde. "Well, shall we?"

Well, I like it lots ^_^!! Especially the girl off the main banner, very nice ;) Yeah, and nice cake Tasis! *munches cake* :tasty:

OOC: Sorry Domon - I have nothing against you, just the only time Zell and Sephy met was a little tense at best so... y'know, sorry and all that ^_^ IC: "WOOO!!" cried Zell, setting off for the theatre at a sprint, leaving the rest of the team watching him with comic expressions. "Is he gonna be okay?" "Oh my... I hope he doesn't hurt himself..." Cloud watched, mildly amused. "He'll be fine, let's go." With his words team Avalanche dispersed to their respective challenges. Finally, slightly breathless, Zell made it to the theatre, and stepped in, glancing about a little nervously. "Helloooo?" Sephiroth's gaze was cold as he glanced at the blonde. Zell started upon seeing the arch-villan, remembering their first encounter all too well. "Oh, I'm acting against you, am I?" "Apparently so." Zell's expression was less than enthused. "Well, yippee..." Sephiroth raised an eyebrow in amusement. "I can see you're estatic." "Sure I am, you have no idea." Sephiroth paused for a few moments before stepping forward a little. "Well, shall we begin?" "Go on, I'll let you go first." Spehiroth smirked slightly at the challenge. "Gladly."
-
Heh sounds interesting... Could I ask a question though - would you object to having an apprentice mage? Surly teenager who gets things wrong more often then not?
-
OOC: Hey, I'm still here (after several days away - sorry about that) ^_^ Avalanche is not dead - I'm just waiting for Tasis to post our positions before I post anything decisive. IC: The new challenge had been announced and Tantalus had already disappeared to their respective places. Shooting a curious glance at Cloud, Zell saw that their captain was thinking hard. "Hey, if it helps I'm up for acting or fighting," Zell suggested, watching Cloud continue to mull things over in his mind. "You? Fighting?" Zell grinned, deciding to take the disbelief at a comedic value. "Hey, don't say I can't fight my way out of a tough spot. I've managed it before." Zack, this time, opened his mouth to speak, but Rinoa got there first quelling a clipped comeback before it had time to be said. "Come on Cloud, we have to decide what we're going to do." Cloud nodded quietly, seeming to have come to a decision.

Just after general opinions on a piece I did a loooooong time ago ;) This is the only "true" sketch I've ever done - I royally suck at shading, but I was pretty proud of this attempt ^_^

"I may call you Hood, may I?" asked Traumerin, walking along after the hooded figure after a few moments of silence. Obviously this "Hood" character thought Traumerin was totally new to "The World". True, the character was - but the player certainly was not. "You been in "The World" long?" There was no harm in playing along... "Long enough," was the curt reply. "Geez, you're a happy camper ain'tcha?" Hood turned to cast a glare at Traumerin. "Maybe I should just leave you here after all. Go get killed if that's what you want to do." "I told you!" exclaimed Traumerin, waving his hands in an almost exasperated gesture. "I'm not in this to pick a fight with everything that moves - not like everyone else here. I just wanna see how things work, that's all." Hood raised an eyebrow, stopping and turning to look at the earnest Skyrunner. "How things work, you say?" Traumerin nodded. "Well, maybe I should show you. I trust you read the readme file?" "Of course I did," the boy snorted, lifting a hand to scratch at his messy red hair in a gesture of confusion. "I know what a computer is, thankyou very much!" "Well," said Hood quietly, seeming to brace her spear in a battle stance with an amused smirk. She waited for Traumerin to react, but he just stood there, watching her with a curious expression. He suspected what she was going to do... but surely not... "Umm... What're you doing?" "What does it look like?" Traumerin gulped comically. "You... uhh... look like you're about to fight me." "What better way to introduce someone to "The World" than a good, old-fashioned, friendly, fight?!" With that she lunged forward, making Traumerin lift his staff in a defensive movement, bracing against her blow with a hand at each end of the wood. "But my offensive stats SUCK!" he cried, pushing the spear off-course with the staff and bringing it round to a defensive position again. "I'm a Skyrunner for crying out loud!" "That's a problem you have to learn to overcome!" Traumerin pulled back from another lunge with a yelp. "Ack! Hey!!" "Well..." Hood decided, watching Traumerin's movements with an approving eye before moving in again. "Seems like we don't really have a newbie in this one, do we...?"
-
Actually.. *knows Psycho's gonna hate her for it* I'm gonna pull out... I don't have time to devote to all these rps... so... sorry... hope you get enough players ^_^
-
Welcome to Azure Sea -- Enjoy your session! "I will..." Kelly decided happily. Kelly was actually an old hand at "The World" - she'd been playing it for almost a year now. But the new expasion pack wasn't trusted by the circle of players she called her friends. She had decided to try it - she liked the sound of it. And besides -- it made Jason jealous... For the first time, Kelly's character opened his eyes and glanced about. Traumerin could hear the Chaos Gate swinging behind him with a buzz - not unlike that of excitement. Traumerin held a staff in his hamd. So... such a curious being as he was, he swung it hard. A little too hard and he ended up on his butt in the dirt with a startled yelp. Looking up with a wince, Traumerin groaned. "And that's what I get for being a Heavy Axe for a year... Great..." He paused before picking himself up. A group of female Wavemasters were sniggering at him amongst themselves, and he felt himself blush. Then realised he was blushing. "Wow..." he murmured, putting a hand to a cheek and feeling his skin was warmer. "This is too real..." He paused, and then started a casual stroll, ignoring the immature gaggle of Wavemasters. He was only here for sight-seeing at the moment. Sounds and smells and hustle were everywhere. This was a popular location... probably especially for newbies. "Now," mused Traumerin to himself, "how does a Sky Runner with the offensive abilities of a gnat and no strategic value - period - find himself a party?" He continued his slow stroll, still not quite sure how to answer his own question. "I suppose I have some levelling up to do," he decided with a sigh. "Levelling a new character sucks!" Obviously, even to a complete newbie, there were no monsters in this particular location. Traumerin battled inside himself for a few moments before hitting a decision. "I'll do that tomorrow, for now I need to explore!"

I dunno... in the idea of mass online games (there's a proper abbreviation, but i can't remember it) we're already there. I mean, look at all the games we currently have in 2D. I don't if there's any 3D ones about as of yet, but there's also Final Fantasy 11, which is also an online RPG. As for the whole VR concept, I don't know. I would imagine someone somewhere is developing something like that. But it would take years and year sof testing and tweaking in order to get it right. I don't think it's too off, but we're still going to have to wait a while. And then (yeah this is my last point I promise!) if you watch the first OVA, you see them playing with a joypad and a headset. So, maybe it's not all about neuro link ups and stuff. If that's the case... they would only have to import FF11 graphics into a headset and we're ready to roll. I suppose it all depends on how intricate "The World" really is... But all in all, I think we've got a few years to wait yet ^_^ *waits patiently*
-
Basically... from what I can tell... .hack//DUSK is a manga series about two kids who win a competition to get to use the character models of kite and blackrose. (I think it's set ofter the games.) I'm not sure what else happens, but it's all about their adventures. The reason it looks like an ova is because *I think* it was televised... But don't quote me on that one... O_o
-
*waves at Bish* Thought you'd never get here ^_^ Gluhen's wierd... From what I've seen anyway. It involves Weiss... but doesn't... And I can't really say much more without having to announce spoilers and such. But the animation kicks big time, and the new charas are cool too ^_^
