Zen, have you seen Born Of Osiris live? If you haven't, you should. ASAP. They sound perfect. You know how the majority of bands tend to sound somewhat different live, whether it be the vocals sound sh*ttier than on the CD, drums sound lame, guitar sounds too distorted, or whatever? Yeah, it's like you're listening to their CD, only it's live. INSANITY. And Knights Of The Abyss won't release "Shades" until 6/23/08 if I'm not mistaken. You must have seen links to make a Pre-order. ;D!

"Tell Shannon To Get Her Crafts Ready" is easily my favorite from HeavyHeavyLowLow. I'm a bigger fan of their first CD "F**k It!" but their new CD is pretty good. What CDs are you all waiting to come out? Personally, I'm waiting for the following: Elysia- "Lion Of Judas" They're going for a new sound, which has me a bit on the hesitant side. From the songs they have posted on their MySpace, they're going for a new sound. They, in my opinion, were THE Deathcore band for a while. Heavy riffs, breakdowns that would break you in two, they were incredible live, and they were only like 17 years old hah. But this new stuff seems to be going away from that sound, less breakdowns, less heavy, I don't know ha. I'm nervous, but I'll still buy it. =/ Whitechapel- "This Is Exile" This just sounds like insane secks. Enough said, to be honest haha. Knights Of The Abyss- "Shades" Basically, what I said about Elysia's new CD could apply here. Except, instead of the Deathcore sound, these guys seem to be going for a more straightforward Death Metal, with too few of the "-core" influences fans have come to really love. The Irish Front- "Universe" They announced this CD like last year, and they're still working on it? wtfsauce. haha, the new songs they have on their MySpace sound sexy as hell though, so I suppose I can wait. hah Bring Me The Horizon- "Suicide Season" I'm quoting what I said on the 1st page, ha. I'm nervous for their next CD, on an interview with Kerrang! Magazine, Oliver described the new CD/sound as being " 'more rock than metal. It's heavy though, and sounds a lot more fatter and beefier. We've also done some mellower tracks too.' Oliver Sykes, vocalist, also states that this album will see the band 'moving away from the sound' of their first album." Lower Definition- "The Greatest of All Lost Arts" This sounds incredible. These guys are THE band to come out from our very own San Diego. They kind of sound like A Day To Remember, without the heavy riffs. They're Indie, with "-core" influences. Haha, it sounds funny, but they are amazing, I promise. ;D!

Haha, I know my genres, thanks. Personally, I think Circle Takes The Square has more Grind/Thrash influences then anything, but that's just me. As for Bullet For My Valentine, I GUARANTEE YOU they aren't Metalcore. At all. Labeling them as such is just ridiculous. They have hardly any Metal influences, they're more Rock then anything. Maybe even a bit Punk, with a few Thrash influences. They rely heavily on clean vocals, outrageously simple guitar chords, and have little to no "-core" influences. And you have to admit, their earlier music was definitely Screamo. Some of their newer songs have a different sound, but labeling them Metal, Metalcore, or anything of the like is just downright wrong. And I agree about Bring Me The Horizon, I've been listening to them since "Count Your Blessings" came out. That's a few good years, haha, and the sound and CD they had were just incredible. If they change their sound entirely, I'm gonna be severely disappointed. I'm seeing them on Warped Tour when they come down here to San Diego, hopefully I get a taste of what their new music is. I'll make my judgment then, until then though I'm gonna have to keep hoping that they were just joking around, hah.
  4. Haha, oh god. I just read through some of my earliest posts here. It's safe to say I'm completely embarrassed, hahah. Everything was just plain awful; spelling, grammar, EVERYTHING. Particularly this little number: Um, yeah. Epic fail on my part, haha.
There's something about Job for a Cowboy I really don't like. I don't really know, as for Bring me the Horizon, Hunter has talked about them, and I'm going to check them out soon. The Black Dahlia Murder kicks mad *** as well, I just love the vocalists voice, something about that kind of screaming just gets me pumped, also, while more Metal than Hardcore, Cradle of Filth's Nymphetamine is an awesome song, and TBDM's vocals seem similiar to Dani Filth's inho.
If you like The Black Dahlia Murder's vocals, definitely give me me Bring Me The Horizon a listen, both vocalists have very similar vocal styles. Especially as far as high screams go, both Oliver of BMTH and Trevor of TBDM have very high, raspy, throaty high screams, haha. And Zen, take a listen to both "Plagues" and "Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord" by The Devil Wears Prada, and listen to all of their songs. If they aren't Metalcore at its finest, then I deserve to be punched right in the teeth. They are Metalcore though, so :p haha ;D!

@ Zen: lulz, The Devil Wears Prada is Metalcore my friend. And btw, since you brought up As Blood Runs Black, I think their new songs are just completely terrible. They kicked out Leche, their previous drummer, so they now have no original members from when they started. So if you think about it, since none of the current members are original, but they're still playing older songs and still using the same name, they're basically a cover band now. hahaha, seriously, think about it. I personally think "Alaska" by Between The Buried And Me is by far their best album. Listen to "Autodidact" and tell me that song, and the majority of the other ones on that CD aren't pure genius. Oh, and btw, listen to ALL of "Autodidact." That last breakdown is complete and utterly epic secks. "Colors" is alright in my opinion, I respect the technicality to the album, and do see it as genius, I just think their sound lost something that they had in "Alaska." Plus, there are just some completely off-the-wall and random parts to some songs, hah. Lawlz at Bullet For My Valentine being mentioned in the "Extreme Music" thread. I never knew commercially watered-down Rock/Screamo was extreme? The same goes for Atreyu. haha, sorry guys. As of late, I've been listening to the following bands A LOT in my car while driving around:

Architects
August Burns Red
Born Of Osiris
Bring Me The Horizon-I'm nervous for their next CD, on an interview with Kerrang! Magazine, Oli described the new CD/sound as being " 'more rock than metal. It's heavy though, and sounds a lot more fatter and beefier. We've also done some mellower tracks too.' Oliver Sykes, vocalist, also states that this album will see the band 'moving away from the sound' of their first album."
Despised Icon
Elysia-I'm also a bit nervous for this bands new CD coming out 6/10/08. From what I've heard of their new songs, they're going for a different sound, which wouldn't be nice in my opinion. If they do, I'm really gonna miss the outrageously brutal, heavy-a** Elysia I once knew.
Emmure
For The Fallen Dreams
Knights Of The Abyss-The same goes for this bands next CD. It sounds somewhat decent, but from the songs I've heard they're going for a more Death Metal sound rather than Deathcore. It sounds like they'll still be using some "-core" influences in their songs though, just not as much.
Parkway Drive
Suicide Silence
War From A Harlots Mouth
Whitechapel
Winds Of Plague

  7.
So far I've been tinkering with the idea of handicaps like in earlier handicap things. Size restrictions and themes, but maybe also colour, font, layer and such restrictions. Maybe that goes a bit far though. Anyway, if anybody has theme ideas, just shout. I will make a little list here to start with: Money Love (Relationship) - Love (Friendship / Brothers / Sisters / Family) War Freedom Culture / Specific culture Stereotypes Future Power Nature / Specific animal Music / Specific genre
Maybe we could even have more specific themes? I was thinking like:

Clocks
Splatters
Lyrics
Cars
maybe like a Freestyle one, where members could make whatever they want.
we could possibly even do like a Member Dedication one. The most obvious one would probably be Desbreko haha, just make it The Legend Of Zelda related and you're all in hahah.

  8. @ Justin: omg, I'm a bigger fan of the newest cd With Blood Comes Cleansing just came out with. "Horror" I think it's called? I dunno haha. MUCH better then "Golgotha," the new sound sound's much more finished, if that makes any sense. "Golgotha" sounded like it was made to fast and sound like a work in progress hah. @ Woah, Mann: See You Next Tuesday doesn't sound like The Number Twelve at all? Haha, SYNT has way more trash/-core influence, A LOT more then The Number Twelve. @ Aberinkula: OMFG, I agree with you 100% on your comment about All Shall Perish. YES. And I haven't taken a listen to Heaven Shall Burn, but to be honest their name kind of ruins it for me so I don't think I'll be taking a listen hah. @ Zen: And ZOMFG to Winds Of Plague. I like you more now, hahah. "Decimate The Weak," "Origins And Endings," "Angels Of Debauchery," and "Reloaded" are BY FAR their best and my favorites. They have INSANE stage presence, it's incredible. And Born Of Osiris is reallyyyyyy good too. "Abstract Art" and "Brace Legs" are insane, the final sequence of growls in "Brace Legs" is brutalll. Haha, its
  9.
someone rate me zomg
Let's keep this spam-free, shall we? @ 8bit: Um, nothing much to say? Ha, sharpen it up a bit, it's a little too blurry. And that guy in the picture looks funny, tbh. haha ;D!
  10. http://www.websiteoutlook.com/www.otakuboards.com Haha, oh wow, according to that website, the USD amount in the thread's title is how much OtakuBoards is worth. TheOtaku is worth $306067.10 And MyOtaku is worth $22943.90 Adam's got it good, hahah. ;D! It's really interesting to see the estimated worth of other websites, I was on there just looking up random sites' worth for about 15 minutes before I decided to post a thread about it here.
  11. I started a "Rate My Sig/Avi" thread, so hopefully that gets some activity there. Boo, if you have anything you'd like to add to my post, feel free to edit away. Boo, I was hoping we could start a SOTW, we could start with voting what the theme would be? I'd love to know what your ideas for a SOTW are so far. ;D!
  12. Alright, here's hoping this brings about more activity here ha. Rules & Guidelines The idea's simple, except I'm gonna add a bit more to the typical rules. In an attempt to keep posts simply consisting of "6/10" out of this thread, you MUST post at least 2 (two) sentences giving constructive criticism. Rate the avatar, rate the signature, tell the artist the pros and cons, give suggestions on how to improve, feel free to even class the skill level of the designer if you feel confident enough to do so (Low Novice, Solid Novice, High Novice, Low Intermediate, Solid Intermediate, High Intermediate, Low Pro, Solid Pro, High Pro). Basically, what these threads usually do are a quick way to find out what other artists think of your tags/avatars, instead of posting a separate thread for separate banners every time. So there you go, have at it everyone! And, obviously enough, I'm first haha. ;D!
  13. Ok, I'm done! Sorry about the wait, I had some stuff I had to do earlier today. If Talk Is Cheap
  14. I'd like to claim the next spot, if possible. ;D!
  15.
Some of the ideas sound great. The Signature of the Week especially. I think to have 3 contests a week going on is a bit much, but we could at least start with setting up one weekly or bi-weekly Signature of the Week contest.
Haha, I wasn't expecting all contests to launch at the same time. Starting off with one sounds perfect.
The member award sounds like a monthly thing, though I wouldn't mind have a huge annual Art Awards (Wow, Awarts. Ahem, sorry) with favourite contests, artists, works and stuff either.
Likewise, especially the annual art award idea. That would be fantastic, kind of like the Nifty Fifty, but not? haha
The Current Art Contest thing sounds pretty neat, I must say. 8Bit's right when a separate forum would not be necessary, but this would fill that spot very nicely. Though if we have a standard weekly contest going on it might be more effective to name the current week's theme to work with or something. And a good notification for the whole Boards that voting rounds are on. Great thing is that everyone should be able to vote. Not sure about the poll though, because I'd still like to see a bit quality constructive criticism in the posts. Explaining why you chose this one signature over the others should be plenty, I suppose.
I agree with everything in that little quote. Good catch there, Boo. ;D! I'm especially interested in what James or any other administrator thinks of my idea for this:
The winner would then be awarded a little "SOTW Winner" banner with his/her name on it. That would, of course, mean that we'd have to work out something so that only the members who win the contest would be able to have two banners in their signature at one time. Only two or three (or however many would be allowed by the staff) SOTW banners would be allowed at any time. Or I'm sure they could just be awarded the banner, not be allowed to post the banner if they already have their main banner up, and the member could just link to all of their awarded banners.

The team things might need some more activity to be able to work first. To have limits of 30 people per team might be a bit too enthusiastic.
Any number would be fine. 10-15 would be perfect, the team members would be able to interact a lot better with each other if teams were smaller, and they would be able to participate a lot better in team contests with such a compact group as opposed to 30. Whichever number we all decide would be a good number, I was just throwing a random max number out there.
  16.
What if we encouraged artists posting their own artwork by having a "Otaku Art Member of the Week/Month"? That would be neat.
Maybe we could do that ALONG with a Signature Of The Week competition? And maybe even a Large Art Of The Week? I was thinking the following:

If possible, we could make a sub-forum in the Art Studio dedicated solely for art competitions.
For a SOTW (Signature Of The Week) type of contest, we could set up a thread where members would vote for what the theme would be for that week. That poll would be open from Saturday morning until Sunday night. Then Sunday night, we would begin accepting entries (in a separate thread) until Friday night at 11:59 PM or somethin. Then voting would occur from Saturday morning until Sunday at a designated time. The winner would then be awrded a little "SOTW Winner" banner with his/her name on it. That would, of course, mean that we'd have to work out something so that only the members who win the contest would be able to have two banners in their signature at one time. Only two or three (or however many would be allowed by the staff) SOTW banner would be allowed at any time. Or I'm sure they could just be awarded the banner, not be allowed to post the banner if they already have their main banner up, and the member could just link to all of their awarded banners.
The same concept would apply for a LAOTW (Large Art Of The Week) contest.
And the same concept would apply for the OB Member Of The Month. The one exception would be that the 5 or 10 (or whatever designated number is decided) members would be pre-selected by an anonymous judging panel or somethin. Then, a public poll would be made showcasing five pieces of art for each member. A special banner would be made for them, and the same idea for the SOTW banner award would apply here.
I was also thinking we could start graphic teams? We could have it so that no more then 10 or 15 teams exist at one time. A team leader (obviously the person who started the team) or co-leader would be in charge of starting a recruitment thread. There would have to be a minimum of five members in the team, and a maximum of like 30, or 50, or however many. Then we could have team graphic battles and have it so that each team has to participate in at least one every month, if not more. Teams would HAVE TO BE ACTIVE. If a team isn't active at all, then the team would be disbanded making room for another person to create a team.
I have a few more ideas, but to be honest I can't think of them off the top of my head hahaha. By the way, those were all just rough ideas. If anyone else has anything they want to add to them, or would rather see something not added, or if you even have any other ideas please feel free to do so. ;D!
If you create some cool new threads on Art Studio, I will promote them on OB World at theOtaku as well. That might give them a bit more coverage.
That would be fantastic, James. :animesmil
  17. Well, I know it wouldn't be a matter of making it. I'm sure making a post for a SOTW type of the thing wouldn't be out of the question at all, it's just that it needs people. I want to make sure I get some people to actually try out for it, it wouldn't be much of a contest if it were just between two people or something, ya know? So, I guess the whole point of this thread really is: how could we get more activity in the Art Studio so that we can actually get some participation in these contests?
  18. Maybe OtakuBoards could start some weekly contests or something to help increase activity in The Art Studio? Maybe a Signature Of The Week, Large Art Of The Week, or anything of the like. Maybe we could even start a Team Creation thread to help increase activity with older, as well as new members. We could make teams that have a max amount of people, and have their own private section in the forum for their team only. We could then begin doing Graphic Battles between two, or more, teams. The teams could also start writing tutorials, or something. I have no idea, but yeah ha. To be honest, The Art Studios activity level is just downright sad, it was one of the most active areas when I first joined and was one of the reasons I really started to further explore graphic design. The only thing keeping activity there is the Graphic Worm, and that can only go for so long. I really want to bring the activity level back up, I'm referring people to the site, but I can only do so much as one person. =/
  19.
I agree. The forum has died out almost completely. It's pretty sad. But on the good side, I'm glad you've become active again [for now at least]. Anyways...
I know! I remember when the Art Studio was one of the most active areas in OB. Now it's like another archives section hahaha.
I'm totally digging the sora sig. The background goes with the stock very well. Text could've been cleaner though. But it kinda matches the sig in a way.
Thanks heh, the Sora one was actually the first one I was really satisfied with. The other ones I made before I was still in my n00bi3 phase, so I just did them to do them, you know? Anyway, hah.
I also really like the FF: Crystal Chron. one. The blending is spended and I love the lighting. Beautiful work.
Thanks a lot! I worked on that one for a bit longer, I like the outcome.
I really like your new style. :] Keep up the awesome work.
Thank you so much! Haha, hearing positive feedback is always incredible haha. I hope to hear some more constructive criticism/comments? Yeah you. ha ;D!
  20.
I've actually been listening to alot of them lately. I've learned to do my pig squeals off of an inhale scream, atleast, that's how I first learned them from the various videos I've watched on YouTube. I understand that exhales are also possible, but I think my inhales are not only easier, but also put less strain on my voice. However, every other piece of advoce is helping and I'm taking into account. I'm still a newbie at this, but I was (and still am) a bit worried that maybe my voice wasn't meant to do highs (my tonsels and adnoids are gone, and I'm afraid that might effect such things). My voice is naturally deep, so I feel like I'm forcing myself to do highs, and when I do, they probably sound really, really, really awful. But alot of people have told me that I'm going to sound really bad for a while, and that I just have to practice and get used to it over time, it never comes immediately. Is this true?
Haha, of course it is. As if everyone who starts off is immediately going to sound like Job For A Cowboy or Whitechapel. It takes time, and a lot of it. Your vocal chords have to progress to that point where it's almost like another voice you make. All my vocals are exhales, in my personal opinion any type of inhale vocals don't sound good at all. After a while of listening to inhales, they start to sound TOO alike. And when you're doing inhale growls, they tend to sound like you're trying to do a pig squeel. Winter Solstice and Ghost Of A Fallen Age are both perfect examples. All their vocals just sound too repetitive, so I prefer exhales. If you learn to do pig squeels correctly, they actually don't put that bad a strain on your voice in my opinion. They put the same amount of strain on your voice that a growl usually would. Then again, if you were worried about putting too much a strain on your vocal chords since you first started doing them, then these probably aren't the vocals for you hahaha.
  21. Water and green tea work wonders. Have them nearby whenever you're doing vocals, even if you're just practicing by yourself. With "extreme vocals," as they call them haha, your throat dries out much faster then normal. Keeping it moist is really important otherwise you're going to be over-exerting your vocal chords which leads to tearing your vocals chords, whcih happened to whats-his-name from AFI and Sonny Moore. Tearing your vocals chords requires surgery, and thats a big no-no. ;D! Like I said, when doing high-screams you really want to make sure that you feel it at the very top of your throat, or at least somewhere near that area if that makes ANY sense haha. With growls, it's all gotta come out from your chest. Doing growls from your throat is going to completely screw your throat over and you'll likely lose your voice within a day if not within a few hours. Pig squeels are a different story, I honestly don't have a good way to describe them. You're gonna have to realize that you're not gonna start pig queels the first time doing vocals. PIG SQUEELS TAKE TIME TO LEARN AND DO. Don't even try these unless you have a good-sounding growl down, cause if you don't it's gonna sound like complete *****, I guarantee it. I guess the best way to explain how to do them, is that you have to go from a growl, but go up an octave? I dunno, they way I described them to my girlfriend is that "I have to go to a certain low note that it starts to sound almost like a high note in my head." It's wierd to be honest, and it's takes time and patience to get it to sound even kind of good. Listen to Job For A Cowboys album titled "DOOM." Really take a hard listen at his pig squeels and you'll notice that you can hear both a high and low note.
  22.
It already helps a lot to do screams and hard yelling with your nose and not your throat. If you practice it a bit, this is the way to keep up for at least 2 songs, whereas with your throat you will be dead after a few seconds.
You're a tad bit confused to be honest, haha. Sorry, but high screams and yells are meant to come from the back of your throat. If your using a lot of your nose, I'm sure it sounds a bit bad and hurts even worse. And if you're doing growls through your nose then it's gonna sound even more terrible. Growls are supposed to come from your chest, and it takes a long time to get a sound that sounds remotely close to sounding good. If you do growls through your nose or throat, you're likely to tear your vocal chords within a month, I guarantee it.
  23.
Haha I like how you use deathgrind (Deathcore is the same thing.) Well.
OMG FALSE. Deathgrind and Deathcore aren't the same at all! While Deathcore heavily relies on influences from hardcore/metalcore, deathgrind doesn't have ANY "-core" influences at all. They're a thrashier side to Death Metal, in other words. But yeah, it all depends on what kind of hardcore you're looking for. If you're lookin for Deathcore, I'm a BIG fan and know of (and know personally) a lot bands. I guess here's a list of what I've been listening to lately: Animosity Architects At The Throne Of Judgment August Burns Red Between The Buried And Me Born Of Osiris Bring Me The Horizon Despised Icon The Devil Wears Prada Elysia Emmure For The Fallen Dreams From The Shallows Glass Casket HeavyHeavyLowLow The Human Abstract Into The Moat Ion Dissonance Johnny Truant Job For A Cowboy (Before they came out with their full-length Genesis) Knights Of The Abyss Parkway Drive Protest The Hero Suicide Silence Underneath The Gun War From A Harlots Mouth Whitechapel Winds Of Plague Take a listen to the bands in bold, they're all fantastic. If anything, just listen to Knights Of The Abyss, Elysia, Whitechapel, All Shall Perish, and Bring Me The Horizon. As for pure Hardcore, I wouldn't really be able to suggest any bands. Like I said, I'm much more into the Deathcore genre.
  24. Haha, oh geez it's been a WHILE since I was last active on here. To be honest, I miss being active on here, but oh well ha. As of late, I've really been getting really more into a new style of signature making. I don't know whether some of you on here venture onto graphics forum boards, but the style of signature making has progressed so much compared to when I first started making graphics. I guess I'll just stop my intro and post my damn art already haha. I started with the oldest one I made when I first got into the new style of it all. If I went back all the way to the first signature I've ever made, you'd probably just leave the thread instantly hahaha. Comments and criticism are much appreciated. Not on all of them, because that would probably be a lot of typing (unless you want to on all of them, then thanks haha), but just your favorite ones I guess. ;D! 25.
Besides Photoshop, you can also work with GIMP. I've worked with it a few times, and it's actually pretty good. There are a lot of people on the GFX forums that I'm on that use it. It has a bunch of the same features as photoshop;; layers, brushes, effects, etc. But, it's actually a fully free program. [Yes, legally] ;] http://www.gimp.org/
I was actually going to suggest that haha. I've worked with it twice, and a lot of the functions are surprisingly similar to Photoshop, then again it would make sense that they follow in the programs image seeing as how Photoshop is the leader in Computer Art software. If you have the money though, I strongly suggest you invest in buying Photoshop, unless art is just going to be some hobbie or pastime, then just download GIMP.
