Anime why dont people put anime movies in theatre!!!
Sui Generis replied to mr dude guy's topic in Otaku Central
I have two different art theaters around my house and both play anime movies. One of them had the Cowboy Bebop movie going on for roughly a month. I guess it just depends on where you live. I mean the theaters arn't packed by any stretch of the imagination, actually the theaters are more empty than anything else, and that itself proves the fact that anime in theaters really wouldn't work when they are competing against movies like Lord of the Rings or any other blockbuster. It would be cool to see true anime movies in theaters but I highly doubt it will ever happen, besides in small art theaters. -
Well I've already cut down my OB time drastically. I'll tell you it wasn't planned though. I'm going to be an incoming Junior for next year's school year and I've been here for God knows how long. (6th grade?) However, I've been pulled away from this place almost every summer for one reason, baseball. Now I know you hear this all the time, but truly I want to become a baseball player/coach. I just want to be able to play or be apart of the game for as long as I possibly can. So each summer I go from medium amount of posting to virtually none. Where do I want to go to College? There are a lot of places I am looking at. Everyone from KU to ASU. I want to major in Language Arts and become a highschool english teacher. I love English and I'd love to spread that love with "the youth" of our nation. Not only that becoming a teacher opens up the possibility of being able to coach baseball for that highschool. Thus I could do both of my dreams at the same time.

I'm really not trying to put all the blame on the mods, sorry if I did. I'm just showing an example, and I'm not saying its any of you guys either. Like Dagger said in the ol' days alot of the "oldies" were just pathetic spammers as well, but through patience they developed into a better poster. I just don't see as many people getting those chances, now granted this may because of the more amount of people that are on and how many newbies there are. So I guess you could consider this a mute point it just seems people arn't being as friendly now a'days. OB is still better than a lot of boards, just giving a comment.

I've been going here for a while, thats safe to say, and although I haven't come here much in the past months I couldn't help notice something. What happened to that friendly open door OB? I mean OtakuBoards is still my favorite message board, its still the first message board I ever went to, and it still is a place I really do enjoy going, but something has changed. You can call me crazy if you want, it won't be the first time, but to me it seems alot more clichier or tight than it used to be. The mods seem to be alittle bit more snappy. Now look I'm not blaming the mods, lord knows they do everything they can for this site, and I understand that its a hard job, but what happened to the friendly reminder? Instead of the "Its not allowed, sorry if you have questions you can contact ****** or me." its more like "Hey idiot, this isn't alowed, clean up your posts or else you'll be banned!" I don't know to me it just seems different. Its something that I've just gradually noticed, it seems a sarcastic remark is more in place now than a helping hand. I've been thinking about this for a while, and it says Feedback so I thought I'd just share my thoughts with you guys. You guys do a great job, I guess I'm just complaing for a lost cause, but thats my side of the story.

Well its been quite some time since I've posted on this thing, and almost that same amount of time since I've written anything. Not really sure, but I had the sudden desire to write a poem, so I scribbled this down. Comments/Criticism...the whole 9 yards. Do your worst... When the moon fails to rise, and the sun always sets, I know you'll be there, offering your loving embrace. When the nights last forever, and the warmth never enters, I know you'll be waiting, With your loving embrace. When the wind blows, and the sheering rain always falls I know you'll be smiling with your loving embrace. When no one is around, and the lights turned off, I know you'll be watching, with your loving embrace. Then when you fall down, and the pain never stops. Just know I'll be there, with my loving embrace.

Haha thats very ironic. I was talking to my friends Friday and I asked them that exact question, during Journalism. Anyways what would I do if I had three days left to live? As much as I could. I mean there would be no reprecussions, I would confess to everything I could think of. I'd do what felt right at the moment and not worry. I'd live pretty much a normal life, but enjoy the time with the ones I love much more... I'd value every breath. Edit_ Sorry not trying to be rude or anything, but as an English nerd I couldn't help but point out; in the context of your question it shouldn't be "knowed;" it should be "knew." (There is no such word as "knowed";))

Politicians are human. They lie and they are honest. Some more honest than others and some that lie more than others. After all they are people and some people are more honest than others, some lie more. You can't say that one person is completely honest or a complete liar. Also what Transtic said is true. No one in society today can get to where they are without some pushing of buttons so to say. Society calls that determination now a'days. Doing whatever you can to get the job done/ get what you want. Lying is no exception to that rule. So politicians are the same as everyone else. All lie; all are honest, but some more so than others. I tend to stay away from politics all together because its too general now a'days. One side represents one belief, another side represents the other side. Theres really not much of a middle man. Sure the green party *rolls eyes* but we see how successful those are. Democrats and Republicans...A donkey and an Elephant. Yes we have a jack *** or a thousand plus pound mammal leading our country...God bless America Oh and on re-reading everything the first comment is quite..biased. You are generalizing way to much about the rich people and such. Many rich people started out as the "skum" you are talking about, and many rich people contribute to society more than you do probably. To me that seems more of an uneducated assumption than anything else, but I guess everyone pulls what they want out of society. Its true that some people think that, but as I said before. Everyone is human. They have every characteristic in them somewhere. Some more than others. I'm sure there has been a time when you've snubbed somebody. Ever walked passed a homeless person and scorned them, or laughed with a friend about someone who smells because they don't have alot of money?

What tricks do you use to fake being sick?
Sui Generis replied to 50 cent's topic in General Discussion
I used to try and fake sick when I was in grade school, but soon found it to be a trivial issue. I'm too much of a social person to even try and fake sick half the time, because peopple will call and next thing you know I'm rambling on the phone. So there is your first clue that I'm not sick. Second off my parents have figured out that I love to do things with friends. (Well thats hard to figure out) So as a way to make sure that I'm really sick, if I stay home from school for a day I can't do anything with anyone for that day and the day after, so I usually stay away from skipping school. Really in my own opinion I see no reason to skip school anymore. I mean sure there are days that are absolute hell, but it makes the other days all that more enjoyable. Plus the district policy on make up work here in Kansas sucks. You get no chance to make anything up so unless you are really sick its a death sentence to fake sick. I guess I'm just unlucky and too practical. (Wow its been a while since I've posted...stupid baseball and making me busy..) -
I'm gonna try something alittle different, so if you don't like it Annie just tell me and I'll go to a more generic character if you want. Name: Antony Age: Time has no meaning. What seems like a day is a year... Species: Angel Gender: Male Appearance Human- See attachment minus the wings. He appears small and insignificant to all who look upon him. He has piercing icy blue eyes. He seems to be able to look straight through you. He has slightly unkept black hair. He typically wears a pair of black jeans and a white t-shirt when in human form. He stands at 5'6 and weighs no more than 160 pounds. He has an athletic build with broad shoulders, but despite this trys to remain as hidden as possible when a human. Angel- See the attachment. He wears a white gown (just like the other angels) so as to not draw attention to himself. However, despite all this one thing draws attention to him. His wings. His wings are mainly brown with gold colored trimming on the outer edges and white sparcely put about the wings. Many say his wings are black representing his heart, but in truth it is merely a dark brown. There is one thing that remains the same on his body besides his eyes and hair. On his left pectorial muscle he has an image of two broken wings imprinted there. Weapons/Abilities: Antony weilds a whip made of a mix between demon skin and angel wings. He has practiced with his whip which he calls "Sarentha." The whip is fabled to be able to burn even the strongest of demons, and angels alike. He has used his whip to kill many humans, demons, and angels alike. He has one main abiltiy that involves his whip, by muttering a few words the end of his tail bursts into a white flame that has never failed to melt through an object. He calls this ability "Judgement's Fire." Antony is also an established healer, and is known for countless acts of mercy, as well a merciless. Biography OOC: I know this really doesn't boad to well on OB, but I will have to finish the biography tommorrow. I have to run to the hostpital, my aunt may be having her twins so I have to leave. I'll finish this ASAP!! Sorry for holding it up, if I do.

Just FYI when discussing issues like the one you are discussing its best just to use a PM. Anyways I'm just gonna leave this up here for a bit before I edit it with my character change. I talked to Okibi last night and I said I'll change so I'll have a new character tonight :)

Name Zariran Keriaska Age 26 Gender Male Appearance http://www.animeshrine.com/gallery.php?series=warofgenesis&image=26 Biography Zariran grew up wondering the continent. His parents deserted him when he was twelve, and left him to die. While he was wondering around he met an elderly man in the desert. The man wore nothing but a black robe which was hung over his body. The man and Zariran wondered the desert for four years before the man died. Before the man died he gave Zariran a sword seeming to made out of electricty. As Zariran went on without his friend he became bitter and began to resent the world. One day he pulled out a book that he had found on his dead friends body. This book seemed to be about the sword he had recieved and its abilities. He read and studied this book for many years alone and soon mastered the sword. After mastering the abilities as well as the sword he soon began stealing food and money from towns as well as lonely travelers. As he did this his hatred for the world continued growing. Type Electricty Sidea Dark Abilities/Skills Electric Shock- Sends out a wave of electricty paralyzing enemies Control of the lightning element Shield of Bolts- Creates a barrier of lightning around him harming an attacker whenever it reaches within the barrier. Personality He has a very dark personality, afraid to let anyone get near him. He despises most people before ever truly meating them, and believes that the world deserves to perish. He deemed himself the worlds destroyer dealing out death and judgement when he deems fit. He has a very twisted sense of humor and enjoys riddles and puzzles.

Well my first reaction was..."Is there a guy's reflection in the picture?" If you look closely it looks like that..... Anyways, did I find this picture beautiful before? Honestly, not really. I don't know for something to be beautiful to me it has to strike a chord, and/or intereset in my heart. This just didn't do that, it looked too confused when I first saw it. Although I will admit it had an interesting shading and color scheme to it, I still wouldn't consider it beautiful. Well considering I really didn't think much of the painting or whatever it is before I knew it was...well filled with piss my mind didn't change that much. All I really want to know is, what made him do that? Where in the world did he come up with the idea of "Hey lets piss in a jar with Jesus in it!" Doesn't make sense, but hey thats why he is the artist and I'm not. If anything him pissing in a jar almost makes the whole thing interesting (almost). Oh well in a strange sense I think its funny, but as I said before not beautiful and seeing as it wouldn't have been on my wall before, its still not going to be on my wall. I consider it art, simply because there is emotions trapped up inside it. Be it hate or rebellion or love (in some strange sadistic way) I believe it is art. Its an expression of a belief, and to me thats art. G/S/B Master
I don't think this is art. Its like hatred.
I'd have to disagree with you simply with stating what I said before, art is an expression of feeling. Hatred is also a feeling so I believe that does count as art, he was expressing himself, and I don't see the hatred, but thats in the eye of the beholder I guess.
Originally Posted by Transtic Nerve And should art take into the consideration of ethics? Or does it reach beyond ethics and morals?
I think in a strange sense art stretches beyound societies usual thoughts of ethics and morals. Art has its own ethics and morals in a sense, but pissing in a jar doesn't really cross the lines. Really I don't think that this would cross any lines of ethics besides societies view of sanitation and being polite (lack of single word to describe that). I don't know; to me art has a more powerful meaning than "What should be." After all art is essentially rebelling something or another, its expressing youreslf when others would rather you be quiet. To be an artist is sometimes to be...well weird compared to society, and the ethics and morals of an artistic object are also...weird. Sorry for the use of such a dry adjective but its really all I could come up with. Basically what I'm stating is that art is only limited by the minds of its creator. Art is endless and I see no reason to restrict it, so yes art goes beyound usual ethics and morals, and yes its art. So even though I really don't have much of a high opinion on this art piece, I have a high opinion of art itself, and this is art. Although what makes no sense in my mind is how beauty can be changed by its creation, I really don' t understand that too much. Even if it had piss on it, if something was beautiful its still beautiful, its just like eating food. Some things you really just don't want to know what you're eating even if it is good. I mean it takes odd combinations to make great stuff sometimes, and the final product is the important part, to a viewer in my opinion. Really as strange as it seems I see no reason to change my view on this painting because it has urine in it, sure its not exactly the most lovely thought, but the picture is (to other people) beautiful, and the initial feeling of beauty should be what matters, not societies retraints kicking in. Art IS that initial feeling, it goes beyound society as I said, and you have to let go of those restraints to truly love art. So if initially you thought this piece was beautiful I think (in my mind) that there really should be no change in your mind, after all its art, and it represents what the artist wanted it to represent. Did all of that make sense?

Oddly enough I really have no complaints. I've found the skin I love, I like the new style, and all the new options are well...nifty. Seriously, in my opinion, you guys out did yourself this time. I knew Version 7 was coming, and I expected changes, but man this is great. You guys basically completely re-did everything, and its just so cool. It took me a couple minutes to get used to the style and such, but I think its so much easier now, and it looks so much more...professional, and laid back at the same time. I really do love the new layout, and style. I think it will be easier to manage as well, for all mods and admins so thats a plus. Great job guys, I have no real complaints.

Hey man, my sympathies go out towards you and your family. I had a similar incident happen four years ago in our old house. We had just moved to the city we live in now, I think it was a total of a month that we had been there, when a neighbor had a party and they shot off firecrackers, one of the fire crackers got next to the house and when it exploded, it just lit the house on fire. Luckily everyone was gone from our house, I was the first one to arrive home, and it was...quite eerie to see your home burning down before your eyes It really does suck, I'm sorry that it happened to ya. Best wishes for you and your mom, and good luck :)

I understand that this is only the beginning of the essay but, it seems alittle rough. Some of your sentences seem to develope a thought and then completely drop it, there is so much room for expansion in ideas and thoughts in the paragraph. One such sentence that could lead a reader to be puzzled is
A large squall had hit and we were knocked in all directions imaginable.
A large squall hit what? What did it feel like getting knocked, what were you doing at the time? Now reading from the context I can only guess that you mean the squall hit the dingy, but to some readers that would not be apparent, as well as maybe your teacher. Also...proofread!! I don't know if you just typed this out or actually put it word for word from your essay but there were a lot of tiny mistakes. Nessiet? Uhm...what in the world? Do you mean necessities? I'm not sure, sorry I can't help you with that word. Another thing, never start a sentence with AND or BUT; use a comma to connect the two thoughts. No offense but your sentences seem almost bland at times, try using more adjectives, make it more descriptive, as a reader I want to feal like I am there, that I AM one of the boys. Its really not that bad so far, there are quite a few small gramatical errors and typos but I'm sure you'll work through those. Good luck with it, be interested to read the rest. Although I'm curiouse what grade you're in.

Wow these popped up alot right before the switch to version 7. Well atleast the threads about Magic: the Gathering. Personally I play, I've played off and on since 4th grade. So about ten yeras. Its never been anything really seriouse just grab a pack every once and a while and build a deck with what you got. Right now I'm running an Artifact Red deck, its not too bad. The new Meriodion (sp) packs make artifacts so much better, I love them. Lately, however, it seems that Magic has gotten a second wind so to speak. It died out (or atleast here in Kansas) from about 7-9th grade where virtually no one played it and this year its picked up speed and popularity again, its pretty cool. But yea as I said I play Magic.

No offense ment, but I think your teacher had a point. Profound itself is a deeper word. Its not just a "happy" moment, its something that means philosophical change or realization. It could also just mean a deep thought, or maybe just a proud moment for yourself as in your character. I could say a profound moment was when I dove in front of the president and stopped a bullet from killing him, or I could also say my most profound moment was when I realized the glass isn't half empty; its half full. I hope that clarifies the whole "profound issue" a little better for you. My most profound moment? I can't really say I've lived a moment where I would be 100% positive and un-deniably correct in saying it was profound, however, to go along with the topic of this thread I guess I'd have to give the closest moment I have had to a profound moment. I think (my opinion) the most profound moment in my life was a simple realization. Just a simple thought that led to a realization and ultimatly made me a more optimistic person, and it all stimmed from a quote. "Death smiles upon us, all we can do is smile back." Basically what that quote led me to believe is, don't fear whats to come. You can never hide from what has not yet come because indeed it knows where you are. Instead of hiding, enjoy the moment. Enjoy each second of the present as it floats into the past. The past is forgotten and the future is feared. If we fear the future then we spend the present hiding from it. Thus the present floats into the past with nothing memorable happening. So what is there to live for? You can't merely go out each day and be afraid of what may happen you should go out and simply enjoy the smell of the just fallen rain. Sure bad things will happen in life, but when those times come you can just smile at them and cope the best way you can. Because then, even if the worst does come you will have something to look back on and smile about. You will have those memories of lazy summer days by the creek. You will have the memories under the tree. You will have stuff that would help hold you up. All that support simply by enjoying the present and letting the future come to you, instead of trying to catch the future before it exists. So to simplify all my rambling: Remember the past (fondly)....Love the present.....and accept the future as it comes.

Thats really just balancing on a stereo typical ethics tight rope. Now I could've asked the same question 20 years ago about baseball. Baseball was/is an American sport, made in America and first played in America. Now Japan picked up on the game and started playing it. Is it still baseball even though its played by the Japanese instead of the Americans? Of course it is.... As long as the author (whatever culture they may be from) follow the boundaries of anime, and goes along with the guide lines that define anime I believe that it would be accepted, no reason for it not to be. If the art is the same, and the whole basis the same then I see no difference if a japanese man did it or if Hugh Grant did it, as long as it goes along the lines of anime then it is indeed anime. So in all that rambling all I was trying to say is....as long as it stays in the boundaries of anime then yes it is anime and I would buy it.

Annie, I know I'm probably late, and you are probably gone, but I had to say good bye anyways. You've done so much for me in the past month that we've talked that its really hard to think of you as just an "OB Friend" you've been more of a sister to me. I wish there was some way to show you how truly honored I was just to talked to you, even if it meant jumping off of a cliff. You're a great person, and I'm glad that you are indeed taking your life into your own hands. I wish you the best of luck, and I will miss the daily talks very dearly. Bryan

What would you do if you were president?
Sui Generis replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Uhm...first off Nate...Ban baseball and I will personally assassinate you!! What I would want to do as president..... First off I'd like to give equal press rights to all American students. I live in Kansas and am in one of six states that students have actual full press rights. I think that it is important to give kids press rights. I mean that gives them a freedom of representation and gives them an outlet, but also introduces them to the real world. Compromise and such, makes them more responsible. You can't just write anything and pass it off as truth. Second off. Definatly what Chibi-Horsewomen said. I'd un-ban gay marriages. I think its perfectly fine, of course thats pretty much a biased opinion on my behalf, but oh wells. Love is love, I don't think any one person can restrict that. Thirdly I'd like to attempt to restructure the Coast Gaurd back to its original use. I think the "threat" of terriosism has gotten America tying its hands behind its own back. We have too much Coastal Protection in my opinion, I think they need to go back on concentrating on our own enviroment as well as terriost attacks. I'm not what you'd call an enviromentalist but I just think that we're letting too much crap get into our oceans. What I would do if I was president? Hide in a corner and beg for mommy....
