Not including Neon Genesis Evangelion, my favorite mecha anime would be New Mobile Report Gundam Wing. It's my third favorite anime series, and it just so happens to be a mecha show. ^_^

Subtitles are better than English dubs, ALWAYS. When watching anime with subtitles, it is the original work, with the original actors, which is the way I feel the production should be watched in the first place. Anime is dubbed mainly because it is kind of a rule to have the English dialect for the anime sold in America, and because networks here won't accept it in Japanese language. Furthermore, English dubs generally suck. Script changes are commonplace, and picking the right actors for the parts seems like an impossible job for Americans/Canadians. Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star are a blunt rarity among the otherwise crappy dubs in the market. However, I DO prefer dubbing to subtitles; that is, MEXICAN dubbing. They translate anime as accurately as possible, no matter what company does the work. Whether it's InterTRACK (Dragon Ball series) or Locomotion (Neon Genesis Evangelion), the voices and acting are BOTH excellent, and the script is rarely or never changed. They prove that the English excuse that script must be changed to fit the lips movement is a complete LIE. I rest my case.
Originally posted by The Merchant Sorry to revive a month old topic but his series is one of my over all favorites. I love mithology and saint seiya really does use it very well, the storyline is superv and the episodes are very well done. Ive seen jsut 4 episodes of the hades saga, and i can tell you that they are jsut outstanding. They kept the original drawings, music and they added a lot of effort in the quality of it. My favorite part of the series is the 12 zodiac palaces battles. Oh and btw, im from venezuela.
Sí va, de Maracaibo! Debe ser un peo allá con la vaina Chávez. :/ Well, back on topic. I also have 4 episodes of Saint Seiya Hades, and it's just great. I like the few 3D environments they have added, while keeping the same artwork. I am really excited because of
the cooler Gold Saints were revived. I am Capricorn.
Anyway, it's glad to know someone else from Venezuela posts here. My best friend also posts here (rarely), and he's in Caracas right now.

*Pfft* This movie kicks so much [butt]. I bought the DVD with Parts 1 & 2, and after watching it, I found it to have potential, but it wasn't quite there yet. So, anyway... a few months pass, and last week I finally bought the "Movie Edition," as I had read somewhere that it was just like Gundam-W Endless Waltz Movie and OAVs: similar, but different. I noticed as soon as the movie started, that it was quite different than the first two parts I saw. For one, it was shorter, and scenes were changed, even though the story was kept intact. Well, by the second half of the movie, my jaw had dropped. Near the end, I almost cried in shock, amazement and pain. Do yourself a favor and check Macross Plus out. Meanwhile, I'll look for Parts 3 & 4, since the episodes seem to be more detailed than the movie.

Anime AAKK!!! Hasn't ANYONE wanted to talk about VHD an' Bloodlust!?!?
Magnum Apex replied to Sarasan's topic in Otaku Central
Quit your whining and get back to topic. Wait, I'm not a mod. Quit your whining and get back to topic. Amano made the artwork for the novels, and I think he was very involved in the Vampire Hunter D movie. I don't think he was in Bloodlust at all, but of course, since he made the artwork for the novels, it is normal that he gets a mention. From what I understand, Bloodlust is based on the third D novel. -
Age doesn't matter, as long as you respect the person you're with. If you are 21, and love someone who's 16, you're fine by me, as long as you don't take advantage of her and respect her innocence and youth. The close-minded notion that people have against age difference is sickening and unhealthy. People shouldn't judge a relationship based on age difference, but based on whether or not the two people involved love each other and respect each other. I know a couple with a girl who's 29 and a guy who's 16, and they're probably more in love than any couple I've ever known, and they're as happy as ever.

I bought the first one as soon as it came out. By the time I had reached mission 5, I was bored stiff. However, after nearly a year of not touching the copy, I decided to give it another try. This time though, I got hooked like the rest of them. I enjoyed it a lot, and found it to be one of the most amazing, inspiring games for the Playstation 2. No matter the corny, cheesy dialogue, the terrible voice acting, or the made-by-a-10-year-old story. Devil May Cry kicked [butt]. I was looking very much to the sequel, as much as I did for Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny and Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner. I saw it at Best Buy, but decided to wait. I thought to myself, "This game probably rocks, but let's just read the reviews to make sure. Remember! It's 2003, the year to not [mess] up!" (Yes, I have constant inner dialogues.) Anyway, I trust GameSpot judgment on video games as much as I trust my own, and I was shocked and disappointed about reading their review. What was this about Dante not having a personality? Or the world being less detailed? Worst of all, what was this about not being fun? Capcom seemed to have let me down. Capcom, the King of Sequels, failed to impress me. I read IGN's review just for kicks (they rate games too high. Anyone who "trusts" them should not be playing video games.) Surprisingly, they had similar things to say about Devil May Cry 2, though they gave it a higher rating. I will rent it, when I'm sure I can make time to play through it religiously. It would be great if I actually found the game fun, but my hopes will seem to remain as nothing but that... hope.
Originally posted by Stephs Hi, Im new here, and Im from brazil, so I don't know speaking english very well, so correct me, if I say something wrong. vegeta is one of my favorites characters in dragoball z, and while I was reading this forum, I saw some really cool phrases that vegeta said. One of my favorites is the one that he says something about his heart being pure evil, but I don't know exactly, and I wish to know. I am going crazy looking for these vegeta's words, but im not being very sucssefully, so if you could help me...I would appreciatte. thanks
Welcome to the forums. I grew up in Venezuela, just above Brazil, if it means anything. ^_^ One question though, what language did you watch Dragon Ball Z in? For example, I've watched it in Spanish (most, and 2 versions), English and Japanese, and the dialogue between English and the other two are quite different. I can say a great quote from Vegeta right now, but few would understand because of the different language.

It's a production from director Hideaki Anno, the genius behind Neon Genesis Evangelion, and studio Gainax. No, it isn't another overtly complex and strange anime, but a series that focuses on comedy and teenage drama. However, this series is slightly stronger than the generic Love Hina, and somewhat different in execution. The story follows the life of Yukino Miyazawa, a model student who loves her popularity. She is the "perfect" person in school, not only being the smartest, but also the prettiest, most athletic and charismatic student. Even so, her popularity and position as the #1 student seem to be taken away by a newcomer named Souichiro Arima, who seems to surpass her in every single field. The twist of the anime lies in that they both have different personalities when outside the school (well... Miyazawa more than Arima), and these two obviously clash as the story progresses. You'll quickly notice that Gainax was behind this show. Inner monologues are common with the two main characters, and there are constant changes in animation and artwork, used for either comedic value, or heavy situations. Even if you don't like the whole high-school drama genre, you shouldn't dismiss this one so soon. You'll see in the third episode that the series isn't all laughs and giggles, and that there are some interesting themes that Anno explores. Heck, Hideaki Anno made it. You shouldn't care what it's about, you should just check it out and be thankful that you're watching more of his work. His and Her Circumstances

Anime Doe's anynoe like gundam heavyarm's
Magnum Apex replied to Gundam_Heavyarm's topic in Otaku Central
Originally posted by silentdeath technically heavyarms does have a beam sabor as seen in the battle on antarctica with zechs and the tallgeise. It does though have to shed it's left arm which can be a real down side. I like it but it is sort of ordinary. I do like the endless waltz version more than all the rest of them though.
It isn't a beam saber. It isn't even a beam weapon. As I stated earlier, it is a "Gundamized" army knife. It does provide the Heavyarms with more mobility, and it would only be used when his Beam Gatling runs out. -
Originally posted by Mist I must go against this tide advice, actually. I tried the exact same thing with a guy friend of mine, and I guess he was either angry or devastated, because he never spoke to me again. He's going to hug you; it's natural. BUt talking to him bluntly might hurt him. Avoiding him isn't going to help either; he'll only find you. Hmmm...maybe you should have a friend mention that he's been trying to get rather close to you lately, and have her say, in an advising tone, that you're not really like that. (Like that's not the right approach.) The second time this situation happened to me, I did that, and they guy totally backed off. I don't know if it'll work with you, but I say it's worth a try.
Heh, read my post. There is the high likelihood that those two won't be friends again, but it depends on the people involved. If he were truly her friend, he'd understand. If he never spoke to her again, then he obviously wanted something more that she could not give him. If you want to be friends with someone, you kinda have to be on the same page about what kind of friendship you're involved in. If she were to tell a friend to tell him, he'd get angry because she wasn't brave enough or didn't have trust in him to tell him face to face.

Anime Doe's anynoe like gundam heavyarm's
Magnum Apex replied to Gundam_Heavyarm's topic in Otaku Central
I like it, but it is not well rounded. As stated already, it relies heavily (pun intended) on heavy (again) artillery. It has an army knife, but that doesn't compare to beam weapons like the beam scythe and the beam saber. -
Oh dear... Telling him is the best decision you can make. Unlike girls, we guys suck at indirect behavior, hidden messages and going around in circles. We will never get the message unless you tell us what you want and feel in a straight way. Sure, like people have said before him, tell him you want to talk. Tell him the truth about how you feel, but don't forget to be straight. Be forewarned: He WILL get hurt, and there's no other way around it. If you sugarcoat what you're going to say, you'll just be telling him, "I'm not sure if what I'm saying is what I feel," which will cause his behavior to remain. Sadly, it will also be VERY hard to keep being friends with him, since his feelings for you won't just wash away, and feelings are tough to hide properly. This is up to you, though. Well, I wish you the best of luck.

Anime is more compelling than American cartoons. They are deeper, and the stories are much more complex, and deal with more thoughtful issues. Even the most lighthearted and straightforward of anime has these characteristics. Well, with a few exceptions, like Pokémon, and stuff like that. Also, in Japan, anime is as important as any other show here in America. It explores the same themes, only animated. Anime aren't cartoons, it is a medium that encompasses all genres that shows and movies are divided by.

I've read the 8 Love Hina volumes that have come to the States, and I own almost every side story from Gundam Wing. I don't think I'm missing any.

So, the only Final Fantasy we'd be missing is Final Fantasy III? I have an urge to own them all and play them in order, from I to X. I started getting into the series thanks to Final Fantasy VII, and have been a faithful fan ever since.

When I was little, a few classmates told me that I looked like Mark-Paul Gosselaar, the actor who played Zack Morris in "Saved By The Bell." I've been told recently that I look like Leonardo DeCaprio and Johnny Depp. I don't take these comments seriously, since the fact that two people look alike doesn't necessarily mean BOTH of them have the same physical appeal. Furthermore, those two actors look nothing alike, so it makes even less sense. I've taken the compliments politely though, and with a plastic smile.

International Channel is showing Dragon Ball GT now, but without subtitles. At least Slayers NEXT is subbed, though.

Some Sci-Fi channel shows anime. I think it's only in the U.K. They show Evangelion on Fridays. Um... TechTV shows Anime Unleashed. Yesterday, they showed 6 episodes of Series Experiments Lain, or something. Action Channel shows anime on midnights, as well as Showtime. Yet, none of them compare to Locomotion, which sadly, Americans don't have. :D I miss Venezuela.

I feel weird posting this in front of a bunch of people I don't know, but I guess the true strength of this thread lies in the fact that an individual loves to talk about him or herself. Who am I in my own mind? I see myself as someone who's mentally mature, but emotionally immature. I feel emotions and sometimes act on emotions like a 14-year old would. I'm growing out of it, though, but it still happens. For example, I've sometimes felt unreasonably jealous with my girl, though I never admit it. I'm someone who strives knowledge, and is always open to learn more about life, and about the things that interest me. Ignorance can be good sometimes, though... but from the point of view of someone who wants to live in the real world, ignorance is something unacceptable. I've grown an ego over the past few months. I tend to think I'm right, so I'm rarely proven wrong. This might go in contrast with what I said about my willingness to learn more. Well, people are that complicated. I have some good qualities, however. Don't lose hope! I know I am committed to the people I care about, and I am willing to risk everything for them, even friendship. I've done it before, accidentally... but I don't regret it. I don't regret anything I've ever done, because experiences have taught me important lessons, and have made me who I am. I follow my life by a few principles: You never know until you try; always follow your heart and emotions, the mind can be confusing, but the heart knows what it wants; be honest and true to yourself. Don't waste your time trying to impress anyone by being someone you're not. Life's too short for that kind of activity. Who am I to others? I can't say what are everyone's opinions of me, but I can say what I've been told, and what I can perceive. My close friends know me as someone who's loyal, and nice. NICE!! They say I'm nice. Those who know me well know I have two faces. I can be the sweetest, most caring person when someone needs me, but I can be a sarcastic individual when I have nothing to worry about. People say I'm also very funny, too. Not because I tell jokes, but because of my sarcasm and charisma. Heh, what do they know? Silly them... Girls usually tell me I'm good looking, but I never believe them. Really, I don't. Not that it matters much, but I rarely believe when a girl tells me I'm "cute, hot, attractive, a catch." If that were true, my life would have been easier up to the last couple of years. I've been told I also have an attractive personality, because I stand for what I believe in, yet I'm not cranky about it. Lately, I've even been called a bully. Of course, those who know me say I'm just showing my alter ego, while those who don't are just intimidated by me. Even so, these "characteristics" of mine have developed over the last couple of years, so high school friends and such still see me as nothing more than a shy, quiet guy. Can't wait 'till we meet again... ^_^ How would I rather people saw me? I really don't care. I am the way I am, and different people make different assumptions on me based on that. Neither is wrong, because each person perceives things differently. I won't bother myself with the "would," or "could." Sometimes they can be PLAIN wrong though, and that's something I wouldn't like, from some people. That's it. This post will be skimmed faster than you can say . Yeah.
-
In a second, if it were the only way, there'd be no hesitation from my part. If I couldn't do it, then love would the wrong word to describe what I feel for that person.
Originally posted by Meier_Link I believe you're the one that said, "*Cracks knuckles* I thought I'd never get into an argument here. Luckily, I was wrong. ^_^". You call that not trying to get in a fight? Street Fighter Alpha is still off topic But I agree, Everyone including myself bought the movie because of Akuma
No, I call that wanting to debate. There's no fun in always agreeing, you know? Furthermore, you stopped to discuss in the middle of the argument, so I suggest you keep your promise, unless you want to prove that I was wrong about the USA TV series, which you have yet to do. Also, yeah... the thread was about the Japanese series, but there's no wrong in discussing something that heavily relates to the topic, like the Street Fighter movie. It also helps to compare which production was better and more successful in portraying the popular game series. Anyway... I like Akuma because he's the ultimate fighter. No one can be stronger than him, because anyone who wants his power must become completely evil. That's the theme the Alpha movie explores, which is surprisingly good. Ryu has the ABILITY to be the ultimate fighter, but he'd have to become one like Akuma. The movie gives you the idea that Ryu overcomes that obstacle, but I doubt he got as strong as Akuma in the end. On a sidenote, did you catch any of Akuma's strange appearances in the V II series? Hahaha, those were funny.
