Let's talk about ....., baby... (Mature Themes)
future girl replied to Artemis's topic in General Discussion
We had a debate like this in our English class a few weeks ago. I honestly believe that it's none of my business whether a person chooses to abstain or otherwise. Either way, I find some of the arguments backing the ppl against pre-marital sex to be ridiculous. First of all I feel marriage has little to no value outside a court house. Ppl often think that implies that I find the idea of monogomy or commitment to be meaningless as well, but this is not true. An individual can find the person they're meant to be with, sleep with them and have children with them and never marry, just like a person can wait, get married, have sex and then have the marriage fall apart before their eyes in less than a year. It always depends, really, on why you did it. Ppl should go into having sex with some level of maturity, but that's a given anyway. -

My Little Pony was the shnizzle (I have no idea where that came from O_O) I too have been meaning to splurge on the My Little Pony toys that have resurfaced at my local Wal-Mart. That and Rainbow Brite, she could take Strawberry Shortcake any day!!! -
Meheheh, I am currently obsessed with Billy Idol myself. *is listening to Rebel Yell right now* Well the 80's had some of the best music ever created. Some of my favorites include Depeche Mode, The Smiths, The Cure, Eurythmics, Prince, I could mention so much more, but I have to bathe the babe. In short, the 80's had some kick *** music, best one hit wonders ever heard and really big hair. Awesome-ness ^_^

My little Pony!!!!!!!! Combine that and the barbies I deformed plus my Jem doll and that made for the perfect Mexican Soap Opera. LOL I loved my brother's Super Nintendo...then my cousin broke it and we all hated him -
*sigh* Raibow Brite rocked it like no other. I don't remember so many details as I would like to, but I did watch the show and I too had the doll with the really big head and the small body. She brings back lots of fond memories, that she does. I had a tape, even, that I would listen to as I fell asleep when I was younger. Heh, that show was awesome.

I've seen the movie twice already and researched it quite a bit. As James said, the characters aren't as fleshed out as one thinks they should be, but Tarantino purposely did this. According to his interviews the first movie was to first and foremost be visually pleasing. He knows so much about his characters though, their past, present and future and supposedly the second installment of the movie is to delve deeper into the character development. I loved the movie, I thought it was very well done and acheived what it set out to conquer, but if this were just one blow with no second part I doubt I'd feel the same way. The reason I love this movie is because it leaves me lingering with anticipation for what's to come.
That and Cillian Murphy is pretty hot once he cut his hair and shaved.
I had this same discussion with my sister just today ^_^ I really liked the movie, I really thought I'd be scared ****less, but I wasn't which is always nice. I really loved the silence in it, it added tremendously to that whole "something bad's gonna happen and then I'm gonna have nightmares" thing I feel when I watch these type of movies. I really don't know what else to say about it, besides the fact that I did enjoy. Very good plot, good acting...although the girl Hannah couldn't cry very convincingly.
Never try to save a monkey, you'll just screw yourself over.
I really love the smell of wet soil, right after it's rained it smells precious. My favorite perfume is Envy by Gucci, it's very crisp. I love the smell of cinnamon, when it's being boiled with the milk, that's just a very comforting smell. I really love the smell of Lever 2000 sports soap too, it has that similar smell that most after shaves have. I love that. ^_^

I haven't watched MTV in the longest, but I have the newest cd from RHCP. I really like it, I think it's some good stuff and those countdown lists never make sense

I like it here under my rock, nice and shady ^_^ I positively hate baseball. I live in Florida so there's a big hullabaloo about that here, even though I'm not exactly rooting for the Marlins. Yuck, what ugly uniform colors. I hope the Yankees don't win either. I'm always glad when the underdog wins, so whoever the underdog is, GO YOU!!!

I don't like modern Christian music...I don't like hymns either. Most of the Christian music I ever head was Spanish and really early in my life. They're like ballads, but like those Cantine ballads, or cabaret-ish. Heh, it's hard to explain, but it was good. It was usually woman who had these real deep husky voices...A famous one was called La Lupe...she was really cool, she would hit ppl with her shoe while performing, but that's besides the point...
How could you be embarrased over liking Prince
It's not so much that I'm embaressed of liking Prince, it's that it's bordering on obsession now and well...yea. I think he rocks, even with the pirate shirts and lacey ruffles ^_^

Well, I was born in Florida, but I never really say I'm American. If I'm asked, where ya from? I usually answer Nicaragua where most of my family is from. My grandfather on my mother's side and my grandmother from my father's side were from Spain, though. A lot of ppl tell me I look Hawaiian and other's say I look Native American which makes sense seing as I am...just not United State's Native American...

I love Prince!!! lol He's great, but listening to Prince and knowing all the lyrics in front of all the hard core little boys in school makes me blush a bit. Heh, not as embaressing as the Backstreet Boys, but I'm getting there. I used to be a HUGE fan of Enrique Iglesias, but that was my retarded phase, when I was retarded and I acted like a retard. Thank God that's over...even though I still know all the lyrics...

Heh, I dreamt that Semjaza Azazel saved me from an evil rapist man. Tony, he's my hero ^_^ He was wearing a hat too, and a flannel shirt...and the house was on fire, but it was ok fire, because it didn't burn. O, an we called him Micheal too. Hehehe^_^

I started watching Amores Perros somewhere around 4 or 5 a.m. and finshed well into the early morning, so yea, it is long, but I really liked this movie and I thought the pace was exellent. My favorite story of the three is the one of the old bum. I always find it so interesting that
although he is a hired assasin and kills ppl for money, he wouldn't kill the fighting dog when it killed all his other dogs
. I thought that was really brilliant...His
transformation, also, when he shaves his beard and cleans himself up is amazing
The difference is incredible. Heh, I think the movies awesome, I own the soundtrack too which is really good as well. Another movie I wanted to mention was Time and Tide. It was directed by John Woo, it's a Chinese action move. It's really fast paced, and although it isn't all that rich in symbolism and social commentary, it is entertaining if in the right mood. There's also, Xiu Xiu the Sent Down Girl and Not One Less which are extremely rich in social commentary and a Japanese horror film called Another Heaven that I really liked. I'll get into these later though.

I saw Y Tu Mama Tambien while my mother was away on vacation, quite on purpous too. At first glance the movie just seems like a sex film, but what I really liked was the social commentary the director showed as a backdrop. I also love the part where the narrator
comments on the way the two guys use each other's bathrooms
. I think that was very well thought out. Another Mexican movie that I really liked was Amores Perros. It's three stories and the way they intertwine. It's really very interesting, and it's also with Gael Garcia the actor from Y Tu Mama Tambien...I forget his character's name, but he's the one with the green eyes. He's currently workng on a movie with Almoldovar ^_^ Weee, I can't wait!!!!

I saw Su Zhou He, I saw it twice, actually ^_^ Also, I love the movie, The City of Lost Children, I've seen it about 3 times. To me a movie is foreign if it's from a different country. Even in the same language there's such a big difference of culture and customs and it's rarely the language I pay most attention to, anyway.
-
Well, I drew this last year in Graphic Design...It's no big wow or anything, it tooks me approximately 2 minutes to do, but I always liked it for some reason... Also Sara, your sketches are very nice and although I don't think you drew them on the graphing paper intentionally, I like the way they look on there. O, and Maladjusted, that thing with leaving out one eye and then covering it up with a lot of hair, I do that too, heh.

Hmph, that's the worse reason to not like Foreign films, "I don't like to read." I don't know, I've never had that problem, where the subtitles call more attention than the movie and I end up missing all the action and I've been watching films in languages I don't know since I was about ten or even earlier...I don't get it... Anyway, Run Lola Run is one of those movies I've been dying to see, but can never get my hands on. Franka Potente, the woman who plays Lola, also did this other German movie called The Princess and the Warrior. I really liked it, it's so romantic in a non-sappy sort of way. I've also seen some previews about 8 Women and that seems very interesting too. I'm really dying to see Dirty Little Things, that's British, but it's with Audrey Tatou who's French. She also did Amelie which is one of the more famous foreign films right now.

At first I thought I would make a thread about one particular foreign movie or director, but then thought that since these movies aren't readily available at regular theatres it'd be better to make a thread hi-lighting a few of my favorites. My absolute favorite film, be it foreign or not, is called Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and it's about well, the title says it all. It a Spanish film, directed by Pedro Almoldovar. I love him, his movies never cease to amaze me. Usually the main character is a woman and the way he portrays female daily life, relationships between lovers, family, work and just about anything else that could be mentioned is done with such artistic wit it's fascinating. Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown was one of the first, if not the first movie I saw by Almoldovar and to this day I never get tired. There are so many parts of this movies that deserved to be quoted, so many little details that add up to form the bigger and greater picture. This movie stars a young Antonio Banderas, before he sucked  Almodovar is a genius because he lifts greatness out of nothing. I honestly believe Antonio Banderas hasn't made a good movie since he stopped working in Spain. His characters had so much more depth, even if the role wasn't as the main character. I love Almodovar, I love this movie, so much happens in the course of one day, a person can change so much, learn so much in just a few hours, not to mention that visually I think it's a masterpiece. Camera work is divine in this movie. Another foreign film that I can't get enough of is Le Femme Nikita, it's French and was directed by Luc Besson. Heh, again the movie revolves around a woman who's down in her luck, weak in some ways and ends with her being set free in one way or another. The reason Le Femme Nikita fascinates me is because of how human Nikita is.
She's been trained to kill, but nevertheless, she's a woman, she falls in love
and it's just such a broad range of emotions that are perfectly natural. A perfect example of this and one of my favorite scenes is when she's
in Venice and she has to shoot the woman from the bathroom window and meanwhile she's crying and her boyfriend's talking to her through the bathroom door and all in her underwear.
Luc Bessen really catches the essence of emotion. He also constantly uses one of the greatest actors on this earth, Jean Reno. The man is marvelous and even though his role in Le Femme Nikita is rather small its an integral part of the story-line, he's vital to the film...or at least I like to think so. So, yea, those are two of my absolute favorite movies, which happen to be foreign ^_^ Anyone please, comment or mention others you might like.

To actually go out I have to clean and clean and clean. After that, as long as I check in she's usually ok. And if I don't check in, she just hunts me down and I can never go out again for like a month. I think it's worse because I'm the youngest child, and my elder siblings were horrible so she doesn't want me to turn out like them and I get the stricter rules and such. It's unfair because she bases most of her decisions on their actions and I'm always getting screwed, but I'll be out of the house soon and then I can stop complaining.

Good Idea, Bad Idea with the little Mime guy was great, and at the end of the show, The Wheel of Morality!!! One of my favorite episodes has always been when Slappy and Skippy go to Woodstock. Heheheheh, now that's comedy. I realise today, that as a kid I didn't understand one single joke, though. But the thing about the show is that it had enough physical comedy to entertain a child and enough implied and adult humor to entertain a more mature audience.

Well, I'm really lookiing foward to seeing this movie. I saw a commercial/interview with Tarantino in it today and he said the whole point of this movie was to see how far his talent could go...or something like that, the exact quote escapes me. I also got an article of it in this month's Newtype. There are two japanese animation style sequences, supposedly they show things that would be too hard to watch if they weren't animated. Also, commenting on Semjaza's mentioning of Uma Thurman, it says in the article that Uma Thurman's character, The Bride is the one Tarantino is most interested in. He has some plans of making a feature length anime explaining the back story of The Bride. His plan is to follow her evolvement and he wants to keep using Uma Thurman for years to come, "for as long as they can stand each other."
