Because you directed the attack to your opponent they would take the damage no matter what they play. I also have the card and that's how I played it. However, I'm not sure on what the officials have to say about it and I'll check but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

I don't know if this is the correct place to ask this, but I'll ask anyway. Is the Spear Cretin, Magician of Faith, and Monster Reborn an effective combo to use if you are being beaten, but have a good monster in the graveyard? Would it be worth the trouble to use this combo if it only buys you a couple of turns?
