Originally posted by Heaven's Cloud I?m sick of everyone falling onto the Israeli and Palestinian argument when they focus on American foreign policy; however, I understand why so many countries disagree with our allegiance to Israel. Sure we give an insane amount of money to Israel, but we also give quite a bit of aide to Palestine. While the amount of money is not near equal, Israel has a history of supporting the US in nearly every decision we make, Palestine does not. Is it fair? No. Will the policy change? Maybe, but probably not. I know that is not a valid or terribly poignant argument, but it is the truth.
well, if a bully kept smaking you with a stick, and it was the bullies best friend who was giving the kid the stick, and the bullies best friend went out and suggested somthing, are you going to support the bullies best friend? by america giving alll that insane amount of money to isreal, they are indirectly part of all the problems over there.....
Originally posted by James If you're truly interested in Japanese culture, go to Gion Kobu, within Kyoto. And visit an Ochiya (at least I think that's what they are called...I forget). In other words, visit a Tea House and have afternoon tea with a Geisha. That's an experience you'll be able to talk to your grandchildren about; but it's very expensive, so be careful.
why are geisha's expensive just to drink tea with?

wow, your mom loves SOAD? i do, too...but, i would never let my mom listen to my music, she would tell me about how stupid/crappy it is, and if she didnt, she would just tell me about she didnt want to listen to it... kinda like the one time, i tried to tell her about creed (i knew she would like creed, and tried to introduce it to her..) she said, no, i dont want to listen to that. well, a few days later, she hears them on the radio, and really liked them (i honestly dont know how she heard them on the radio, she only listens to classic rock, which some isnt bad)
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve As for the argument this country was founded on Judeo-Christian ways. Yes in a sense, because that was pretty much the only two religions prominant in this world. It wasn't founded on Muslim ideals or it'd be more like the middle east. It was founded on what i consider COMMON SENSE. Every government in this world has laws against killing, against crime, against many of what America has laws and values for. But alot of those other countries aren't Judeo-Christian countries.... Japan certaily isn't yet they have many of the same laws America has... it's common sense, it has nothing to do with religion..
lol, i am guessing that you dont know that the 10 commandments are in the muslim religion, too, right? meh, all the 10 commandments are are just common sense rules....dont steal, and the such. but, if its going to raise such a ruckus, it should be moved.

what is bad about having the 10 commandments in the public? if you think about it, the 10 commandments are the basis for laws (no stealing and such) and the basis for most people's moral values (nope, you CAN'T covet your neighbor's wife) so, why are some people trying to get rid of them from public buildings where they are displayed? is it because of the religiouse connotations? what are your veiws on the subject? should they be allowed to be up, or should they be taken out?
Originally posted by Heaven's Cloud On the other hand I think that Hillary Clinton is the antichrist. Hillary is a smart woman; every bit Bill?s equal if not better. Despite her intelligence, she won her political post on a platform that was vaguer than Arnie?s ?googanatorial? candidacy. The aspect of Hillary that bothers me more than any other is the fact that she will suffer any indignity to realize her political goals. She remains married to Bill despite his numerous amorous pursuits elsewhere. She has had numerous ?shady? business dealings (which really don?t bother me, because every business person tends to have ?shady? business dealings these days) including various questionable campaign funding scams. The thing that disturbs me the most is that she treats all these accusations like they are entirely unfounded, scandalous conspiracies that were created by conservatives, all the while attempting to remain a matriarchal figure. There are hundreds of women that are talented, brilliant, and engaging enough to become the first female president?Hillary Clinton is not one of them.
oiy, i agree with heaven's cloud. hillary clinton stayed with bill only for political reasons....i think she stayed married to seem like a martyre, in a way. he makes a major mistake, the mistake is blown to the public, and when its all said and done, she "stayed by her man" so she must be good, if she stayed loyal to him all that time ..... but, i think in the end, it was all for publicity -.-
Originally posted by PoisonTongue How about this. Chill out. Relax. I've done the same thing you're doing now. Sure, it was boring, sure, some of the customers treat you like ****. But you know what? Who cares? It's a job. It's retail. It's SUPPOSED to suck ***. I say, accept the mediocrity or general acidity of your working environment, brighten up, learn to go with the flow. Make a conscious effort to have fun; the customers are obviously trying to be nice (they're looking at your name tag, calling you by name, for Chrissake). The least you can do is provide the same kind of warmth or at least attempt the same kind of warmth. There's a quote I'm looking for here...it goes something like, "Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% what you make of it." Listen to that. You can only change yourself. You can't change how other people act. Sure, life sucks. You know what Denis Leary says? "Life sucks. Get a helmet." You're not happy with yourself. THAT'S why you're miserable, not because of a rude customer. You said it yourself: "I hate people. With a passion." You're making yourself miserable. Those customers aren't making you miserable. You're miserable to begin with. Make a conscious effort to change, then you won't be bothered. I've worked retail/food services for 3 years or so. (I quit after finding a job working for a hospital.) I worked for Staples and Boston Market, undeniably two of the worst-run places for general employee happiness. I got frustrated there, oh hell, I did. But then I came to a realisation: This means jack ****. It's just a paycheck. Nothing to get worked up over. You know what I did after my realisation? I went home and played the following songs, in this order. 1) Let It Be. 2) Live and Let Die. 3) Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life. 4) Good Riddance. 5) Bridge Over Troubled Water. 6) Free Bird. At that moment, I learned to control my feelings. Treating yourself like a computer is THE GREATEST thing you can ever accomplish. I've programmed myself into feeling relaxed, calm, easy-going, and care-free. When I'm feeling upset, this is what I do. Put my fingertips to my temples, close my eyes. Concentrate on visualizing my brain, isolating the upsetting material. I identify what it is, understand where it's coming from, log it, then send it to my Wastebasket. I proceed to empty the Wastebasket, delete my brain's cookies and temporary files, then clear my mental RAM. After this, I say to myself, "System restart in 3...2...1." You know what happens then? I open my eyes and am TOTALLY calm and relaxed. I even think about what was bothering me earlier, and it doesn't bother me. Do you realise what I did? I controlled my emotions. I controlled how I was feeling. I understood myself and understood how I work. That's what you need to do. Bitching and moaning doesn't help. You need to undertake a CONSCIOUS effort to relieve yourself of stress and unhappiness. Complaining is fine and all, but it will not help in the long run. Thanks, PoisonTongue
PoisonTongue has alot of really good points... did you know, stupid people dont make you mad... stupid people cant make you do anything YOU make you mad. YOU controle how you react to the stupid rude people. what i find helpful is to take to the people with a calm, clear mellow attitude. at least, thats what helps me...
Originally posted by wrist cutter Just how many times is this going to be brought up? I mean honestly. The same exact things are said every other week this thread comes up. It's always "there's no such thing as normal", "normal is just what the media wants you to believe", "I'm too cool to be normal" blah blah blah... we've seen the same statements made over and over and over again. Nothing has changed. I don't know why you people keep bringing this topic back up.
he just said what everyone is basically saying( over and over )....need i say more? actually, need anyone else say more? 0.o
