It's funny to watch all of these 'badasses' come out of the woodwork. "Oh yeah, I woulda beaten the crap outta him, and then stabbed him, w00t!" Yeah right. Anyway, you did all you could to avoid the confrontation. You ignored what he said, and when he came up to you, and physically grabbed you, you responded in what was probably an appropriate and sensible manner. Oh, and Kamuro, you wouldn't have called him a jackass, but you would of fought him. Is it just me, or does that make no sense?

OK. So, we cannot trust our senses to show us the world around us. Everything we see is false, and there is no proof of it ever actually existing. The question is, where to now? If it doesn't exist, why eat? You may feel like you're starving to death, but you won't be? If we assume that everything we are being 'told' by our senses is not true, then what exactly do we do? This kind of philosophy leads to abstractism and detatchment from life. Essentially, if you believe all of that article, the odds are that you're a useless weight on society. Sure, it may be an interesting idea, but can it ever be proved [seeing as all sensory input we recieve from any source is wrong], and if it could, what would the implicaitons be? And is it pointless to argue this? What colour do other people see? We won't ever know, and it doesn't aid society in any way.
Also, Baron, for your comment about the Aussies being better at every sport than everyone ever, can I just mention the Rugby World Cup? We beat you fair and square in that Cup Final, and you're just jealous because you have no Johnny Wilkinson! Ha!
Only sport the Poms ever got lucky in.

Besides, anyone not logged into OB cannot view OB hosted images. Just use Imageshack.

Hahaha. West Australian simpleton? This comes from the East, where they bump your results for whatever stupid reason. You wouldn't know your left from your right, buddy. Cold? You don't talk to me about cold. Melbourne might be cold, but it's damn well colder where I am. Melbourne snob.

And why does your account need to be deleted? If this is truly going to happen to you, it doesn't matter about your fricking account. If you can't come back, then you can't. I hope that you don't end up going blind, but seriously, it doesn't matter if you're account still exists or not. There are plenty of vacant accounts around.

I live in Australia, land of the truly free, truly great, and truly great swimmers. And most other sports, too. And a place of extremes. And a place of beauty. And a place of understanding. And god damn, if it isn't better than wherever you're from.

I've bypassed all the posts in this thread; so please forgive me if I merely regurgitate what others have said. To a degree, you're probably just at an age where oily skin is natural and to be expected. You will have pimples, and thats that. What you can do [and obviously have been trying to do] is minimise the effects. I recommend Tea-Tree oil applied once daily on the oily spots to dry your sikin some. Exercising and eating healthy is a must, as is washing your hair. Greasy hair + forehead= pimples. Think about it. In extreme cases, I recommend changing your pillow case every few nights too. Basically, minimise dirty contact with your face, be it from your hands, hair or pillow-case, or whatever else may effect it. Try things that help to dry your skin, and wash your face regularly. Cut back on any junk-food or chocolate, and try to avoid stress.

*dittos Hevn* Yeah, mySQL errors abound if I try and send a Quick Reply to a PM. It's murder, I tell you. This only occurs when I try to 'attatch original message' at the same time though.

Yet oddly enough, in countries where there are restrictions on guns, the murder rate is shockingly low. In fact, in Australia, we've never even had a school shooting. I wonder why? You're right, gun's don't kill people. But they provide an easier-access and more remote way for people to kill other people. Perhaps a guy has just found out that his girlfriend cheated on him. Odds are, in America, Land Of The Free, that if he gets angry enough, he'll just grab his Constitutionally recognised gun and mosey on out to the other guy's place and shoot him. Perhaps in another country, if he can't get hold of a gun, then he'll let his anger work off, or he'll go to the other guy's place, and maybe they'll fight. But he probably won't kill anyone. Guns are an easy solution for people who think only in the moment. Gun registration and prevention laws do help. To just say "Oh, they'll just kill people some other way", you're not considering people as beings. Sure, there is more than one way to, err, 'skin a cat', but you don't get much more impersonal than shooting someone. Besides, it at least gives both parties a fairer chance if it becomes a knifefight, lol.

I never said it would make spelling a popular past-time, lol. The point is, instead of being ostracised over their nerdiness, they are celebrated and rewarded for it, with recognition and prizes. Instead of becoming people with no outlet, they can have a chance to explore their passion. They can test themselves mentally, where they mightn't be able to excel physically. How can this not be a positive message?
-
If you're not radically different, you're not different at all. Apparently, anyway. Don't you think that the increased exposure of the Spelling competition is a good thing though? I mean, it's the only time where: * For a few days, kids are rewarded instead of ridiculed for taking something seriously. * Widespread attention is paid to an essentially academic pursuit. * For those paying attention, it illustrates the connection between raw, unsexy effort and success. * The competitive spirit is unleashed in kids who have no other outlet for its expression. * Instead of complaining about the culture of negativity, it throws a positive log on the fire. * It is essentially a modified meritocracy -- with issues of luck, coercion, excess, and motivation swirling around on the edges and confusing matters. In other words: life. Maybe it is overdone, but don't you think there is an essentially positive message? And in regards to the medicine thing, I see your point. But, it's too simplistic. The side-effects are generally easier to bear than the disease, or at the least they don't kill you, as the disease may.

If I had the time, I'd insert just about every single one of the stupid and erroneous litigation cases that I've heard of. And the ones that I haven't. And Kamuro, have you ever been in a Spelling Contest on like, a National level? There's a lot more pressure than you'd realise, especially considering how insanely well-covered it was.

This should be in the Suggestions & Feedback Forum under 'myOtaku Problems' or something, but here's what you need to do. In the colour menus for sidebar etc. put in a random six letter combination. But hex codes also utlises letters, so you may need to mess with it a few times. Try something like 'yokulm' or whatever.

Ryuma Asakura, nobody is worried about Newbies, because Newbies are fine. There is a difference between n00bs and Newbies, and the definition has been repeated a dozen times so far in this thread.

I second that motion Hatter ~_^ Especially when the Anthology's description says "Share and discuss your poetry and fan fiction in this forum. You can also use this forum to discuss your favorite novels."

'Lately'? What is this 'lately' you speak of? There have been relationship advice threads at OB pretty well much since inception. It's nothing new. Why do we need a sub-forum for it? Not to be nasty, but you'll end up with a bunch of do-gooders giving more advice than they maybe should. Especially with the suicide threads that crop up. If you made an 'Advice' forum, you'd get every man and his dog complaining. Doesn't sound like much fun to me. I think the Lounge works fine in it's capacity right now. Why segregate things further?

It isn't routine practice currently to check baggage weight in most flights. [Actually, now that I think about it, they always check baggage weights. Maybe they're not recorded though] I do think that the judgement is unfair, especially when you compare it to some of the Bali bombers, who planned an incident which killed 202 people, but only got 30 months of prison: thats a meagre two and a half years. Yet a drug smuggler, who has very little evidence against her, is given twenty years? Seems a bit skewed to me. And over there, it's more a case of 'Prove that you didn't do it', rather than prosecutors needing to prove that you did do it.
OB has definitely been n00bed, but there's nothing we can do about it. All good things are n00bed in time.
Oh, yeah. That would presumably explain why there is only one locked thread on the first page of the Lounge, one in Music Movies and TV, three [omg] in the Art Studio, only one in this tehpwnzriated Arena of ours, two in Play It, none in Mac/PC, and three in the Anime Lounge. Geez, we are totally being overrun by n00bs, hey? Totally. ... Right? I mean, I haven't seen any 13375P34K for a while...but, surely Patronus is right. I mean, it's a deluge of n00bs, right? Right?

Yeah, I know that you said that newbies and n00bs were different. I was merely illustrating that the internet is about classes, and so is much of life. Some form of categorisation and separation is inevitable at any point where people can make a choice about where to go, or what to do. n00b is a mindset, not much related to the length of time you've been somewhere. Generally though, n00bs are new, which is how the word came about I guess. It's not that they're spammers as such, but they are spammy. There is a difference, in principle. Anomaly? Sorry, but probably not, heh. Less common though? Yeah, I'd call it that. As being a n00b is a mindset, Newbie is a sort of mindset as well. It's more like a situation where you can look at someone and say "Hey, they're new" or "Geez, what a n00b". There are plenty of intelligent and mature people who come to the boards, and are like that right off the bat. It is more common for people to 'grow' to that level though, particularly due to the age-group an anime board attracts, and the different expectations placed upon members by OB.

There is nothing wrong with 'newbies'. There is absolutely nothing wrong with them, nobody has a problem with them. Nobody cares if you accidentally misspell a word. Nobody cares if you fail to use a comma in your sentence, or if you accidentally insert a semi-colon inappropriately. Nobody is going to tackle you about that. It's n00bs, spammers and other such people that we wish to discourage. Newbies and n00bs are different things. Why are people having so much difficulty overcoming this concept? It isn't hard. Is it?
-
Yeah, 20 Years and $20,000AU It's pretty harsh, especially when contrasted to Australia's own justice system...where a murderer stands to get less than that. I can't say that drug smuggling and murder are equivalent in my mind. At the same time, this is a remarkably soft outcome from the Indonesian justice system. Already, Schapelle's defence team is preparing to launch an appeal. Unfortunately, so is the prosecution. They want her sentence extended. To tell the truth, the outcome didn't surprise me. They were never just going to let her leave, no matter what the evidence she had in her favour was. Admittedly, she is a tad strange, and she did act in a suspicious manner when they were opening her body-board bag. But when it comes down to it, I think that it was Australian baggage handlers who were responsible for the marijuana.

In regards to the 'class' issue, the internet is all about separation and finding your own niche. Look at the principles behind clans and guilds. Look at the separation between different forums. Look at each group of poeple, as they have made themselves. n00bs are a whole diferent breed to Newbs, and if you cannot make that kind of distinction, then you end up spending 2 pages of thread defining them.

Let the rivers run red and the mountains fall to their knees, because there has already been definition of n00b presented.
Newbies = New Person N00bs = YAh I RuLe ThIs Place YER! LYKE OMG! U WILL BE PWNED!! XOXO
Get over yourself Lacuna Coil. There is no comparison between someone whose soul contribution to a thread is "gO2 rOX yO!1! AaahAHA hEz kIKING!1!11" and someone who can post something related, sensible, intelligent and readable. "Funny how people who are..." blah blah blah. Grow up man. Using the term n00b is an acceptable use of language, because the word has it's own meaning. Of course it's not a real word, because no real words use zeros. Anyway, you weren't looking in the right place. And dude, stop trying to be a smartass. You don't know what you're talking about.
