1. I think that this a great idea: It has the possibility to make a difference. But, if such a thing were to happen, rather than cutting down New Member post counts to 25, why not create a distinction between 0-25 and 25-50 posts? I think by the time you've made around 50 posts, you can be considered to be a fully fledged member. But I think that having a 50 post limit before thread creation is a good way to put people off OB. Therefore, a compromise is required. Lets say that somebody posts, on average, 3 times a day. That means, it'd take just over a week to be able to post a thread at a 25+ post count. But, it would take around 2 and a half weeks at a 50+ post count. Which is more likely to intimidate New members? I remember when I first joined, the thought of actually breaking 50 [and then 100] posts seemed like an insurmountable task. So yeah, I think that 25 posts is around the acceptable limit so that a) Newbies now know whats up with the forums and b) they're not feeling excluded. And my support is also there for the disabling of duplicate replies as well. Great idea [if it is practisable].
2. I don't know if this is what you're after, 'but this is what ye be getting', so enjoy :) ---------------------- 14 April, Year Being 1662 Today was a very bad day, oh aye. Never before have I had my blasted ship keelhauled, and never before have I had a whole village run me out of town. Well, maybe I have. But by the Salty Brine, I swear it shall never happen again! Me an the crew, a scurvy ragged bunch if I ever seen any, thought we?d raid the coast, pillage and burn a few o? them little fishing villages, maybe tackle Tortoror a bit further up the coast. But yarr, no sooner had we rounded Longnecks Point when we ran head on into another group of Spanish raiders. They had corsairs with them, and there was no way we could outrun them, the Salted Snail ?aving seen better days an all. Me an the crew could ?ave survived, but didn?t stand a chance when Grey Norton and his cronies decided to surrender themselves, the stinking bilge-swabs that they be. I coulda slit their gizzards with me cutlass, such that it did anger me. The rest of the crew was massacred, but Grey Norton pointed me out, and they clapped me in irons. After chaining me to the mast, they then shot Grey Norton and the six who went with him. Turns out the schemeing dock-rats were not the Privateers they appeared, but members of the Spanish Navy. They then proceeded to blow the Salted Snail to smithereens using their starboard cannons. Using the vilest of techniques, they forced me to tell them about my plans, an where we had been aheaded afore they came upon us. And says I ?Yourl a bunch of scurvy bilgeswabs, nought fit to lick my boots. May the Dark Mistress swallow you up in her rage, and your boats capsize.? And says they ?We?ll give him to the town? He black-hearted scum then handed me over to the people of Dinaden. With me hands shackled, and me knees knobbled they set me a hundred feet in front of the crowd. And then the race was on. So, ?ere I lay, bruised and battered, but with me salty blood still throbbing in me veins. Tomorrow will be a better day, oh aye. I?ll head into Tortuga, an see what I can see. Now I just need to get these blasted shackles off meself? -----------
3. What can I say? "ROFL" will have to do. Great work Charles... you take the most mundane...err, delightful of ideas, and do something both constructive and accurate with it. Mac and Cheese? Ooh, yes please!
4. Trackback Melee He strode into the restaurant, and you could almost imagine time freezing, to capture that moment of perfection. He was a man who walked with force and authority, a man to turn heads, a man who was going places. Yes, bold as brass, he strode into the restaurant that fateful night. And shot my wife.
5. This will be difficult. [5] Muse: Classical, electronica, groove, cool. You can't really classify Muse. The lead has an excellent voice, and uses it to stunning effect. A very strong band. [4] Modest Mouse: They produce great Altern Rock music, which is ideal for relaxing to. Their songs all contain a poignancy to them, and are really easy to listen to. [3] Foo Fighters: Slow songs, fast song, heavy songs, light songs. But all solid rock. What is there to complain about? [2] The Hives: Nice thrash rock, a great group. I guess it depends on your tastes, and I admit that they take a while to get used to...but once you do, it is impossible to get them out of your system. Very nice for a bit of Punk/Thrash rock, and really fun music. [1] Kyuss: Now known as Queens Of The Stone Age, but I don't know much of their current music. Kyuss is very easy to listen to, because they are slow rock, mixed with occasional heavy parts as well as some nice instrumental type pieces [Screaming Eagle, anyone?]. A great band, and perhaps the one I listen to most.
6. Nice work Alan, although there needs to be some revising of the part where Juu shoots the jcgoudy... some of it doesn't make any sense, to be blunt. Mostly a good chapter, but that part bothered me.
7. In Australia, we're paying over a dollar a litre. Which is ludicrous. The again, who knows what goes through the minds of Oil Barons? ... "$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$"
8. It is a really good idea. I've read a few biographies etc. from people who lived in the war... in this one called Stoker, the man was in the Auschwitz-Berkenham death camp... or Auschwitz-Something at any rate, heh. But this idea is really good. And aren't you glad you called it Achtung after all?
9. I liked Queens Of The Stone Age in their Kyuss period.... I don't know much of what QOTSA does now. But Kyuss was a great rock band. I also love the Misfits... they have a wild energy to their songs, and most of their songs are short and fast. I don't think too many exceed two minutes in length. Also, this may or may not be counted as rock [I always view it as Thrash], but The Hives are one of my fabourite bands of all time.
10. Oil In Your Veins His sweaty hands clung to the steering wheel, helmeted head leaning from side to side as he whipped around the bends, pumping the break to avoid hitting the wall?and then opening the accelerator down the straights, letting the throttle roar. What a feeling. --------- The boy awoke, sweating, confused. ?Got to get back to them Go-Karts?
11. Not So Model's Vain He stared at the sight in the full-length mirror. His feeble body shook softly. His pelvic bones jutted, giving his jeans the only cliff to cling to. His acne-scarred facial features, with delicate cheek-bones, held more of a feminine appearance. Chapped lips, receded chin, bushy eyebrows, tousled, golden hair. He was beautiful. And he knew. ------ A tongue in cheek rendition of Annie's work. Lengthened to the full 55 Word limit, and edited to my satisfaction.
12. She's The Devil, Uhuh, Devil Woman The man knew his tastes. And damn, did she fit them. Long, sleek, shapely legs, tanned to perfection. A tight, sexy waist. A flat stomach, perfectly shaped breasts and long blonde hair. She was a dream, a vision. That night, in his secret apartment, you would have been able to hear him scream. Murder unlimited.
13. I felt that some of it was overdone... i.e. the parchment, the robotic cat etc. I tend to prefer more subtle humour, rather than overly...overt I guess. Ths is a stellar idea though: It is original and amusing. Good work Dane :) I look forward to the next interview.
14. HC, do you use Firefox? Because I get that problem too...with Firefox timing out and stuff like that, which is very annoying... Roxie, I am going to have to laugh, because the computer my dad bought last year has an ATI Radeon 9600. Lol. Anyway, would you be able to tell us about the rest of your computer, like what OS and what system specifications you have, RAM, processor etc. and how many mB your video card has?
15. Well, the only answer to this problem is to tape your hands then.
16. Yeah, Rammstein are pretty good, bt it depends what mood I am in... I only have 1 CD of theirs, Mutter, which is pretty good. I like them because of their style....dark rock, but they're not afraid to enter into classical at times, and their build-ups are awesome.
17. Shy, Retiring. Across the room, their eyes meet, alighting briefly. A touch, a flicker of a flame? Maybe. Who will rouse the fire. Another day, another glance. The fire. Again. But, nobody rouses the flame. Another day, no glance. She has eyes only for another. No fire. The fire will die, because the rouser failed to rouse.
18. I have no self-respect, and would love to be on Big Brother.
19. For all of you interested Aussies out there, my great, great, great grand-uncle was Lord John Forrest, who was the first Premier of Western Australia and appears on the... $5 bill?
20. Well, as somebody who knows SFA about nunchucks, I guess that 'd have to subscribe to the principle of common logic, and suggest that you tape your hands. If your hands were going to toughen up, it would of happened by now. Then again, if you've put up with it for a few years, why is it bothering you so much now?
21. Just as another perspective to think about, I know that many people, no matter what kinds of linkage are sent their way, steadfastly refuse to read the Rules. I guess that could account for the amounts of threads lacking ratings. I just wonder if there could be another way to re-enforce the message about thread ratings. Perhaps in the Arena, the Reply box should have different text? Or an Alert could come up [simlar to PMs] when you go to post a thread? I don't know, just some ideas.
22. Men of 3AM Eyes glued to the screen, all else fades away, the eyes flicker and rush to and fro, scanning, scanning, keeping a wary eye out. The ears, they listen, trying to pinpoint the location of the whining bullets. The hand, it clicks, firing in brief spurts, then compensating for the shock. The mind, it laughs. Loudly.
23.
I can sum it up in four words:
big wallet, HUGE cock

And they say men are horrible, sexist, arseholes who think women can be bought. It's obviously what women want.
24.
Turn out some tricks, just like should
I'd swear that had an 'it' in there before...might wanna edit that back in. Oh, and I don't skate, but I get all of it, in both 'worlds', lol. Skaters don't have the monopoly on skating terms, heh.
25.
Did she really choose Bakura? *_* I can see if it was season one or two, because he was an adorable Brit back then, but with the last couple seasons? That's just... eww. Gosh, at the very least she could have picked Yami, who looks great in that black sleeveless shirt. Or even Ryuuji. X_x; [/rant]
That the worst thing about this whole debacle. She didn't even choose the best anime character. :p
