Gaming Your Ideas on the best video game
Baron Samedi replied to Kiba_the_Chosen's topic in Noosphere
Obviously, the notion of what makes a perfect game is entirely subjective. Personally, I love Battlefield Vietnam [indeed the whole Battlefield series...] FPS makes for great fun, and you really need quick reflexes to survive. Battlefield rocks, because not only is it fun, but you are actually taking part in 'Operations' and battles that really occurred. But, to make it more fun, I'd like to see battles from every age. As in Medieval, WWI and WWII, Vietnam, Modern and even the Future [as in, UT type battles]. Another factor that would make the game awesome would be 'assassin' class runs...i.e. a Rainbow Six type deal, where your team has to bust into a compound and kill all the terrorists. Ideally, a mix of Battlefield, Unreal Tournament, Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six would make my day. -
Business is business. Anyway, as it stands, I don't like 'sports' games. EA is a great game manufacturer...I love them. Especially for Battlefield. But I'm afraid sport games hold no thrill for me. If I want to play sport, I'd rather play it IRL, than on a computer or console. Sport-based video games have never felt natural to me.

Scott Peterson to get death sentence
Baron Samedi replied to Hell Raizer's topic in General Discussion
Even though he'll be in prison for years to come, I cannot help but feel that the death penalty is insufficent means to convey the level of punishment that this man deserves. I would once again like to re-iterate a small cell, and no human contact. For the rest of his life. -
What do otakus think about Homosexuality?
Baron Samedi replied to Miryoku's topic in General Discussion
Rap is ruining our literacy- it is spelt ludicrous, not ludacris... Anyway,
I will never hold contempt in my heart for anyone for being homosexual, but I will never agree with that lifestyle.
Thats OK. As long as you're not discriminating. Now, on that basis, why is gay marriage wrong? If you hold no ill-will to homosexuals, then why shouldn't they be allowed to marry? -
What do otakus think about Homosexuality?
Baron Samedi replied to Miryoku's topic in General Discussion
Outside of any religious reasons, what is there against homosexuality? Uum. Uum. Oh dear, I don't know. ... ? Are you getting the drift. I can understand why some people feel how they do about homosexuality due to their religion, but sadly I lack any respect for that kind of decision. I'm not going to stand here and say "You all should accept homosexuality, or I'll ram it down your throats", but I do take the stance that as long as people are discrete, then their sexual preference should be of no concern to you. I'm not always the most tolerant person, but I do think that sometimes people should keep their opnions to themselves, and allow other people freedoms. -
Scott Peterson to get death sentence
Baron Samedi replied to Hell Raizer's topic in General Discussion
Personally, I think there are worse things than 'death'. For one, solitary confinement from all human contact combined with life in prison. Sound good? I didn't think so. What is there to say? He isn't paying the ultimate punishment. -
To answer this threads question, I think that the 'new car smell' is blue. As in, a light aqua type [think Hex #909090, I think]. That is the image I got when I tried to think of a 'blue' smell. I think that at a deep level, most sensations stem from and intertwine with others. And it isn't always obvious either. I think colours and smells are most intertwined though. For example, the orange pin-up board next to me right now 'looks' musky. The carpet even has it's own type of imaginary smell. Its hard to descirbe. But, ultimately, I am no syntathlete. I tend not to notice these type of things.

I meant what the palestinians who are living in Israel have right now. So what if the Arabs have more land than the Jews? Everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that there were Arabs living in Palestine, or whatever you want to call it, and alot of them were kicked out of their homes. So what if the Jews were there 2000 years ago? These Palestinians, or Arabs as you want to call them have no citizenship. They have been left stateless in a world than defines you by your state. All the Jews who came and occupied the land in 1948 had a state to which they belonged. I'm a palestinian, but I was born in Saudi Arabia. When I came to Canada, my passport didn't say I was Saudi, it said I was palestinian. So where is my country? If I didn't have my Canadian citizenship, I wouldn't be allowed in Israel because I'm palestinian. So what am I? How can you say that palestine never exisited, if I'm clearly defined as a Palestinian?
The Palestinians in Israel right now? They [probably] have a home, and they have life. Or, are alive, rather. It might not be much, but if everyone tried harder to cease hostilities, then they'd have what everyone has. Nothing, unless they worked for it. Israeli's have been there for somewhere around 3000 years I believe. That is a fairly decent claim to the land. If they are Arabs, they have a right of citizenship to oither Arabic countries, don't they? How can you be a Palestinian if Palestine has never existed? It's like saying "I'm a Fawajian". The mythical country of Fawaj is my nation. You can't be Fawajian in the same sense you can't be Palestinian. Why don't 'Palestinians' become Israelis, and then you can have a civil war? If you were born in Saudi Arabia, then your passport, indeed your nationality, should be Saudi. Your parents may be nationless Arabs, but you are a Saudi. I don't really support either side. I'm arguing merits of both: playing Devil's Advocate. And, I'd say that Israel has a large claim to the land, but really, it is only your land as long as you rule there. In a technical manner, there is nothing wrong with nationless Arabs taking over and subjugating the Israeli's, and renaming the country Palestine.

I see nothing wrong with it. I'm not in any way interested in other guys, lol, but I think gay couples should have the same rights as heterosexual couples. Except for IVF...recently I've read an article which has influenced my opinion on this. IVF is for people who due to a physical problem, cannot have babies. Not for people who were never meant to have babies. But, I support rights to adopt, right to marry, and the right to other freedoms associated with marriage. Or anything, in fact. As for your parents not accepting your attitude, that is a shame, but understandable. Many people find the idea of homosexuality gross and disgusting. I think most people focus on the, uuh, sex side of it, which I find pretty gross too. But, they fail to focus on love and feelings. Basically, forget about your parents. They can think what they want. As long as you're happy, then it is alright. You need to stop thinking that everyone should think the same way you do, you should stop needing people to agree with you, and move on. If they don't like it now, the chances are that they're not going too. Ever. -
I come here multiple times a day, in the morbid hope of seeing someone else with a suicide thread. Sad[istical]ly, there have been none for a few months now. On an average day, I'd come here once or twice during the day, generally at school for a few hours [I have heaps of free periods...this year] and maybe if I can at home. I post almost entirely in the OL, but keep an eye on Suggestions and Feedback, as well as PC and Play It. Why do I come? Because I enjoy arguing, I enjoy the challenge, I enjoy any semblance of intellectual stimulation [rare, but precious] and I enjoy OB. I have been coming here regularly since I joined [May 03] and still haven't 'worn out' my welcome, which frankly, has been amazing during some of my earlier periods. And I have made friends.

I have only heard 'Somebody Told Me', and I must say that it is a cool song. Sadly, I don't know about the rest of their music. If it is similarly styled to 'Somebody Told Me', then I'd probably like it though. Edit: I love MTV. Or their web-site, at least. I just streamed Mr Brightside [quickly, on dialup no less!] and I don't mind it. It has it's own appeal, and could certainly appeal to me on certain days. It is good, yes.

There was never any country called Palestine. It has never existed. And, if you'd care to take a look at a world map showing the Arab countries and Israel, you'd see that Israel has 1/650th of the land in that region. I'd say the 'Palestinians' [Arabs, since there was never a Palestine] have an awful lot more than the Israeli's, wouldn't you? I'm not supporting Israel over Palestine or vice versa. I'm just saying. By right of occupation, any country may have a section of land. And other countries have a right to want to take that land from them. Thats how it always used to be, but now people are complaining about it. I don't support the ongoing stupidity, but I'm prepared to accept the realities of the situation.

Faster than a speeding photon...
Baron Samedi replied to Xander Harris's topic in General Discussion
I was referring to earth's gravity, which no-one seemed to be making clear was 9.8m/s^2, not merely 9.8m/s Sorry, lol. The first is acceleration, the second velocity, yes. Ok, back to the roots. Do I think light-speed travel will ever be possible? No. Do I consider there to be more possiblity of dimensional travel? Yes. Do I consider it an iminent or practicable approach? No. -

It was only after the Jews re-inhabited their historic homeland of Judea and Samaria, that the myth of a Palestinian nation was created and marketed worldwide. Jews come from Judea, not Palestinians. There is no language known as Palestinian, or any Palestinian culture distinct from that of all the Arabs in the area. There has never been a land known as Palestine governed by Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs indistinguishable from Arabs throughout the Middle East. The Palestinian National Charter adopted by the PLO states this fact in the first article
You're quite right. My bad. Some other interesting information though...
Despite the numerical superiority of the Arab armies, Israel defended itself each time and won. After each war Israeli army withdrew from most of the areas it captured. This is unprecedented in World history and shows Israel's willingness to reach peace even at the risk of fighting for its very existence each time anew.
I think this site is a tiny bit biased, because I can find two flaws in this theory. 1) The Israeli army was not large enough to be able to afford to spread itself out over new land, and 2) they had what they wanted...Jereusalem and the West Bank. However, this does show an attempt to 'reconciliate', but flaws can be found. I still wonder why control of West Bank / Gaza STrip and Jereusalem cannot be handed over to the UN. Perhaps I am looking at this too simplistically, but wouldn't that help to solve this whole problem?

Just a suggestion to James, what if he put together a file containing all of OB's current graphics, and put it up for distribution in an Art Forum sticky. Then people could come, and make new skins easier, by changing whichever of the graphics they thought could do better. Obviously, main ones would be banners, sidebars, and buttons, but if members had the opportunity to personally create every signle colour in their new theme, then I think that could work well. Bit rambly there....essentially, what I suggest, is a file containing all of OB's graphics to be made available.

Zeta, I view a country as an entity. Countries have images, lol, countries have percieved personalities. What is a country of not a living thing? People don't look up to a ruler. They look up to a country, something that is greater than the collective. Rulers just happen to be the mouth-piece of countries. You don't say 'and today Charon shot dead 15 Palestinian civilians'. Israel, or Israeli's did. If you want to be technical about it, then you're going completely the wrong way by saying the ruler did it, because technically the soldier did it. But, my point was that people do not shoot each other over land, it is countries who do that. Countries as a whole.
Now onto a point that was brought up by the creater of the thread. He/she said something along the lines of "Israelis occupying Palestinian lands." Who say is is their land? Sure their religion says that, but as does that for the Jews.
Palestinians were there first. And Altron, a leader isn't going to unite both sides. The majority of both sides want piece, but it is the radical minority who don't, and they're the problem.

Earth's gravity is 9.8m/s^2 Meaning that in one second, [a to b] you'll travel 9.8 metres, but in the next second [b to c] you will travel 19.6 metres. It increases exponentially from there. Anyway, Adahn, an object with no forces acting upon it, will remain at rest. Once affected by a net-force, if no other forces are applied [as may be found in an empty space] it will continue in that direction. Forever. This is Newtons [2nd?] Law. Which explains why momentum works in space. Imagine it as being a car...you are at rest, until the car moves forward. Then, until you 'acclimatise' yourself to the speed, you are experiencing lateral pressure. It still works in space. Funny stuff, heh. One thing I'd mention is that some of the 'funnies' and some of the words feel a little forced, but getting free-flowing narrative is very difficult. And I'd agree with DW about the sentences. However, technicalities aside, this was an enjoyable piece to read ^_^ Good job, Kane.

Great idea here. I actually went through a reminiscent process like this not so long ago, when designing buttons for [LSN]. Anyway, here goes. Not comprehensive, not ordered, but here. Big Day Out Banner Designed for a BDO theme I had. Ripped from the BDO website. I liked that theme. Colourful, but tasteful. The Cat Empire Banner Accompanied a deliciously dark theme, done off the artwork on TCE website. Looked very snazzy, or I thought so anwyay. I loved the ragged edge feel of the picture, and the background [i.e. with the white strip on the side] that I've been using for my table backgrounds for ages was reminiscent of Kill Adam but the edges I got from TCE site. It took me so long to get it right. Nice stuff. Hagar Welcome Banner Of course, done during my Hagar phase. Hagar is still my profile picture for here as well, lol. I liked this one. Current Banner My current Intro image. Sadly, I don't have too many intro images. I really should go through and organise all of my work even better...browsing through my picture archives has taught me that, lol. So many banners.

To tell the truth Adahn, I was thinking that myself as I wrote it. But still, at faster-than-light speeds, what kind of system would you need to control, plot, and steer your spaceship? One that operated way faster than however fast you were travelling.i.e a system that operated faster-than-light speed as well. I don't imagine that hitting something at such a speed would produce a positive result. However, in regards to effects upon your body, the law of inertia still works... you'd need a very long distance to speed up to light-speed on. Wouldn't you? Because an astronaut can continue on his path as long as it isn't interrupted...and an astronaut at rest would need to begin moving at light-speed. Because when the ship started, he'd remain floating. And be hit by a wall moving at light-speed. Right? I think it could be...but I'm not sure, lol. -
You're not supposed to add another picture until there has been a winner, lol. But, my caption for this one: Missiles on the runway are worse than caltrops on the road any day of the week.
