Should chat rooms shut down or not?
Baron Samedi replied to BigCajones's topic in General Discussion
They should just introduce moderators ~_^. Heh. If people were more careful then they woyldn't need to do this, but some pople think that they are invincible. I suppose it is justified, but it sadly seems to underpin our situation here... Effectively, I suppose it is best if they are shut down. -
Personally, the dogs looked slightly unreal to me. perhaps slightly wrong dimensions. Heh. I know, I'm picky. but otherwise, I find your pictures quite good, with nice drawings, clear definition, and professional shading. 'Grats.

Heh. Those are all pretty good, both humourous and artistically pleasing to the optical equipment. lol. Nice job.

Nice banner. I have never played FF* But that Black Mage thing looks sooooo cool. Good job. *=Insert game number here

Of course honour is not a big thing today. We don't need honour as such, people these days can do without honour. Maybe they view it as a debilitating thing in the rush to get ahead. But does it matter? It has happened and that is it. When everything is costing so much, you need money. Poeple like to be comfortable, so they need more money. But it isn't enough. they need more money. It becomes a way of keeping points eventually. I have a bigger/better car/garage/house/ego etc. You can be naive and say that it is good to die for your cause, but that is stupid. (Don't worry, I'm not calling you naive here) In the life of the average person, providing I am basically average, it does not hold much ground. I have morals, but I also want to get ahead in life. Personally, if you have good morals and act on them, then that is enough. People will never ever do what is completely right. Not all people anyway. Just because it is right and good to be honourable, doesn't mean that they all will. Sadly.

Try www.epals.com it is a candian based school site, all safe and above board, with mainly schools on it. I don't come from Canada, but a friend introduced me to it. Hope it helps.

Xyander, I am afraid you are deadly wrong. We owe our salvation from profanity to that most wonderful of beings... The Censorer The Censorer has made this place what it is today, creating a new era of peace and a profanity-free environment, untainted by the corrupt minds of others. It presides over the Moderators, giving them orders, and a helping hand when necessary. The Moderators have secret sessions where they praise the Almighty Censorer, and perform pagan rituals in the darkness. It is rumoured that Raiha has even seen the Great One itself. To anyone with a post count over 6000 it appears, dispensing time honoured wisdom and advice, revelling in the adoration of the masses. Praise the Censorer, Supreme Ruler of Otaku Lounge, Grand Vadoosh of Otaku Gamers, High Emperor of Otaku Arena, Wise Wibblydunk of Otaku Anime, Lofty Seer of Otaku Series and Mighty Artiste of Otaku Art and Design. He is The Censorer!! I've already said my piece to the new mods. Edit/ Duh, Xyander....I was making a joke. Duh. Sheesh *rolls eyes*:worried: Sometimes... /Edit

As I believe I have mentioned before: People are stupid and greedy. And No, Adahn. You don't need to get into a firefight over this one, which I am making a generalisation about. $50 million dollars is an obscene amount of money, and I find people who sue for that kind of money are absolutely disgusting. She may have been upset about her husbands detah, in fact probably is too upset to realise what an *** she is being. What kind of idiot would try something like that? This is an example of bureaucracy gone mad, where cases like that are allowed to remain in court.

*thwacks Drix* Im Baron! You bully. Well, it is nice to know I can be seen, except by some thickheads... lol. May I ask who Tori is? Is it Raiha? Anyways, Semjaza seems cool, even if he never replys to my IM's. I would like to be him- I mean he lives in Chicago and has a pizza store! or Shy, because I wouldn't need a name change then... I figure Semjaza does hate me, especially as he never replies my IM's. Heh.
Originally posted by Adahn quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by Baron Samedi 1. OF course I think before my fingers move. They wouldn't move if I didn't think it. I do not dispute that our greatest ability is to think ahead and beyond. But what I was saying, is that this will eventually go into circles, from the lack of facts, and the stubbornness of people. This leads to my other part, about opinions. 2. People are basically stubborn. From this discussion, I don't think anyone is going to refute their religion, or suddenly disbelieve Evolution. Sure, they may have another viewpoint on the matter after reading this thread. I don't need to think about my opinions- because they are not holdfast. How can they be, when nobody has all the facts? 3. I believe that Evolution happened, however I am open to the possibility that a supreme being started it, and has helped us along. I am not narrowminded- maybe you are if you think that everybodys opinions must be holdfast and need to be constantly re-investigated? Not that that is narrowminded, just set-in-your-ways. 4. I don't need to question my opinions. They are strong enough, for they are effectively based on all the facts that have and can be presented at this stage. 5. Of course everyone can change their opinions. What kind of stupid statement is that? I never said they couldn't change their opinions, I said 'no-one is going to change their opinions' not 'no-one can change their opinions' Read my post again. 6. It is extremely unlikely that people are going to significantly change their opinion from some fact presented by othe rpeople. Look at Vash's Girl (Sorry to pick you but...) 7. She came in here and said her piece. Do you think anyone changed their opinions because of her? 8. I don't. This is so people can state and support their opinions, but the opinions are all pretty similar- in regard to evoultion anyway, so not many changes will occur. 9. Basically, I do not think you read my post correctly. I never said people 'couldn't' change their opinions. 10. Oh, and why isn't this discussion ineffective? Hhhhm. Who was it that started this thread? Uuuh. Ooh. Almost have the name...tip of my tongue...A-a- Uuh. Adahn! Thats it! 11. Sure we can ponder it, but it isn't going to get us any further down the path of discovery, really. Is it? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I like how Drix did the numbering of paragraphs, and you made it easy for me . 1. Who in their right mind would want to discuss something known as factual. That, my friend, would be pointless. I chose this controversial topic for that very reason, the sake of discussion. As for people being stubborn, you're stereotyping the entire human race. Stubbornness is seen as a flaw, and I would bet it doesn't apply to everyone. 2. You repeat yourself here, but I think I've got the gist of it. You're the only one I've heard say that questioning one's opinions and beliefs is a bad thing. I think it's a very good thing, because it allows us to step back and take a look at why we chose our opinions in the first place. As for having all the facts, that would leave little room for brain-stimulating discussion, wouldn't it? 3. Here you say you're open to the idea of Intelligent Design. Hmm, since that seems to be where this discussion has taken a slight turn, wouldn't this be an effective way to aid in choosing to take a stand on the issue? The rest of this paragraph makes little sense to me, perhaps it could be explained? Apparently holdfast (never heard that word before) means weak and without a strong foundation? It may just be me, but that seems to be the opposite of how it sounds. I don't feel like opening a dictionary, but perhaps you could post its definition? 4. Again, this discussion doesn't rely much on facts, because a discussion of facts truly isn't much of a discussion. This is all about ideas, which require a bit of intelligence to discuss. You also say your opinions are strong, and therefore don't need to be questioned. A bit of advice from me would be, the strength of your opinions depends solely on how much they have been questioned. 5. In saying that nobody is going to change their opinions, you are inherently stating that they cannot be changed. You stated it as a fact, without any questioning tone whatsoever, so I took it that you saw it as a fact yourself. If you want to say something that you don't know as a fact, use words such as "probably" or "almost." Otherwise, it will be taken that you perceive it as a fact. 6. Again, you're insinuating that every human being is incurably stubborn. If I'm not mistaken, most intelligent people know that the strength of their opinions is derived from the thought put into them. Also, not everyone who reads the thread is going to post on it. It is possible (note the uncertainty) that people's opinions are being changed, though we will not see the effect of it. 7. Again, I believe (more uncertainty) that it is possible. 8. Again, you're stating things as fact, when you truly aren't sure whether they are true or not. The uncertainty strategy will protect you from many biting comments. 9. Again, in stating people aren't going to change their opinions, you are insinuating that they don't have the ability. 10. I think you were trying to be sarcastic here, but with your wording, you are saying the discussion isn't innefective, which makes it effective. You then go to say that I was the one who started this effective discussion. I thank you for the compliment . 11. Ah, but it will get us further down the path of discovery within ourselves. As we see other people defend their opinions, and find flaws in others', we are expanding our horizons. If we didn't have such discussions, we wouldn't be able to incorporate the well-thought-over beliefs of others. This is a melting pot of minds, and I, personally, find it to be quite an enjoyable, worthwhile experience. Ah, I really do like Drix's strategy, it's so satisfying. I truly am enjoying this. Would you care for another round? ::cracks knuckles::
Another round? How delightful! 1: Of course it is a controversial topic.... because no-one knows the answer. All I was saying was that the constant presnting of opinions over facts is not going to change peoples minds. Of course, that is only my opinion that it won't change people's minds, but there are so few facts, and so many conclusions drawn from them. All the facts have been represented, now it will not get to further. I believe, anyway. 2: Once again. how the hell did you end up with me saying that questioning your beliefs is a bad thing? Please, back up your accusations. 3: Eh? I am open to the idea. I don't believe in it. I believe in Evolution, but I am open to the possibility of a supreme being. Perhaps 'believing' in Evolution is the wrong word. I am inclined to side with that, whilst not saying there is no God. Holdfast means strong and unyielding. I was saying that opinions needn't be unyielding, especially when you don't know the truth of it. Stick up for your opinion, but don't view it as the Bastion of humanity. Especially if you on't have all the facts. We could all be wrong. 4:A discussion needs to be based on facts. Otherwise you will end up with people spouting off beliefes without justification. Which will not change other people's opinion, see? You don't need to discuss the facts, just be able to back yourself up with them. I do not know the truth. my opinion is currently based on all the facts that are represented. Until there are new facts, how can I change my opinion? Unless I say that some facts aren't true... 5: Not that they can't but that they probably won't. There is a difference, yet it was based on my belief. Maybe I am wrong... maybe not. No-one is infallible. Anything I say is what I believe. I am human. Humans can believe wrong. Therefore, take nobodys word as truth, but as an opinion. You proved my point; I percieved it as a fact, based on my own emotions and ways of operation. 6 and 7: Would you change your POV without sufficient justification? If that is a Yes, well, nothing I can do for you. Of coursem this is just my opinion and Modus Operandi, so it is your choice. No-one can base their ideas of people without it being tainted by their own experiences and self. 8: Gah?!?! All the opinions that have been presnted are either God, Evolution or mix. Any other ones? Please, tell me and I will withdraw my case. Just don't say that we were created by Jell-O monstrs or anything? unless you truly believe that. who knows, it may be true... 9: Must I bash it through your skull? Saying they won't is entirely diferent from they can't. Will not- an element of free will. Can not- impossible move. 10: Wrong.
Originally posted by... ME! Oh, and why isn't this discussion ineffective? Hhhhm. Who was it that started this thread? Uuuh. Ooh. Almost have the name...tip of my tongue...A-a- Uuh. Adahn! Thats it!
I said this discussion was getting ineffective. You said it wasn't. I said 'Why isn't it ineffective?', Because you said it wasn't ineffective, as I believed it to be. Then I said it was because you started the thread. A low blow :toothy: but not necessarily unjustified... Is it just me or is that very simple to understand? Sorry, bad luck, no compliment. 11:What I was saying was that now it becomes ineffective, as I believe all viewpoints have been made, and people can peruse them, but there isn't much more to be generated. Thats all. 12: Whaa?!?! No more?!?! I was just getting into gear... hehehe. I hope you seriously weren't cracking your knuckles, as that can give you Arthritis, and then we wouldn't be able to continue this discussion. I can't wait to see you pull this apart! Note: I may be a while replying because I am going camping... but I'll be back!:toothy: Oh, and Vash's girl... little pedantic I am (Heh. Not really) You might want to get your banner edited so that the $$ are in front of the money amount. it lokks a bit... off, otherwise.

OOC: Yay, James finally posted ^^ IC: Reclining in the soft leather chair, Deep listened to the conversations of those around him, absorbing the relaxed yet anticipating atmosphere of those around him. For his part, he could not wait until they arrived at the HeadQuarters, but quietly he sat, forcing himself to wait and remaain calm. Gazing through slitted lids, he observed Arano, sitting on his own, sideways to the main group, watching a small portable vidscreen which he had removed from its wall socket, viewing the scene outisde the ship using its external cameras. Despite Arano's obvious dislike for company, Deep felt a form of friendship towards the Reploid, for no apparently discernible reason. Abruptly Deep stood up, and went to get a vidscreen. Connecting to the screen with his extension jack, he sorted through the various informative files and programs on it, until he reached what he was looking for- the system specifications of Venus. He whistled softly through his lips, examining the records of the ship. Grinning he drew up the information of his previous visit to the NET. The official capabilities of the Defense Department, and all related organisations- including Sygnosis X were located on a database. All that Sygnosis officially had was an armed transport, and a few older model battle-machines. Of course there were rumours, which seemed to pertain to a sighting of one of the Mars combat craft. However, some very efficient NETbots had been out, or this ship had a form of very advanced cloaking device, because it had no mention or sight reported, at least on the NET. Sadly, the specificationms gave no clue to if it had a cloaking device or not. Deep sighed. it would have been interesting to compare his program to the ships. Never mind. This craft was most impressive, with a plush interior, latest engines and some technology which was not even on the market yet. Plus, the designers would not have included everything in the design specifications, no way. There would doubtless be a few little surprises hidden around. ...We will be reaching HeadQuarters in approximately 45 minutes. came the voice over the ships speakers. Comparing voice modulation, Deep figured it was another person on board the Venus possibly a pilot, or an AI driving intelligence that commandeered the ship. Slipping the vidscreen back into its port, he relaxed, tuning into one of the conversation that was flitting around the room.

Laughs Uproariously. Damnit, you guys are so evil. Where the hell do yuo come up with those stunts Drix? *Laughs* I need to read those again...
Originally posted by Adahn Do you think before your fingers move? This discussion is anything but innefective. If pondering that which we cannot currently understand is innefective, then all of technology is the result of innefectiveness. The greatest thing about being human is the ability to perceive beyond our immediate reality. As for opinions not being able to be changed, I cannot even begin to describe how ludicrous that sounds. If there is ONE thing everyone has, it's an opinion, and the power to change it. I suggest you put a little thought into your own opinions. If you think nobody else can change theirs, then do you believe you don't have the power to change yours? I remember a quote from 7th or 8th grade, though I don't remember who said it. "Simple minds discuss people, average minds discuss events, and great minds discuss ideas." If you don't question your own opinions, how strong can they truly be?
OF course I think before my fingers move. They wouldn't move if I didn't think it. I do not dispute that our greatest ability is to think ahead and beyond. Drix- In relation to your post Re: Positioning of sun etc., think of all the planets that aren't positioned correctly for (what we know to be the conditions for survival). Now, we know very few planets and systems, but we know that their are many millions more at least, so, does that not suggest, that despite the awesome odds of it happening, there is another planet out their with similar conditions? That there is enough planets to make the odds, not so bad as they seem? Of course this is all theoretical, but then again, so is yours isn't it? We will never be able to know these things, and this discussion, whilst preparing me for future studies, is vastly ineffective, as no-one is going to change their opinion, and all opinions have been stated.
-
Damn. I was only joking! Maybe my posts really are invisible. Heh. Ok, I have a poll for who I want to be: Are you rich, popular, funny, respected, reasonably good looking and have a post count over 300? Then reply to this, and we will swap places. Aside from the negligible fact that my posts must be invisible. OR maybe no-one likes me, maybe that is the problem.
-
Drix, because he is so smart. He seems to be really intelligent, and he got the job I coveted... Heh. Someone who is more popular, and is a nice person. I am a nice person, but I ain't really popular. Hardly anyone is even aware of my existance I believe. Are my posts invisible? Sometimes I just have to wonder. Females..... Babygirl has a lot of friends. Nice subject. Not that it matters seeing as my posts are invisible anyway....

Both sides are based on fact, as I have previously stated. Anything lacking sufficient proof is based on faith, whether it is a hunch, an idea, a misconception or something which is just lacking hard proof. Faith is the cornerstone of much of our beliefs. Well duh. I can't believe I said that. I'm an Oxymoron, not just a moron now. Heh.

Personally, I just think James is extraordinarily well read, or looked up the subject on the internet or paper. I generally watch the news, but I have seen very little about this Califonia re-election thing. I agree though, it sounds like it is a circus and an unnecessary waste of time and resources. From what has been said about his policies in this thread, Arnold sounds like a not bad choice. Quite good actually. Just a note to keep in mind- people have been known to get into office and not follow up on all policies. What is so bad about Arnold Schwarzenegger anway? Sure it seems strange and like a scam that he is running for state, being an actor and all, but his policies sound good. I don't know. I live in the Great Downunda, and have heard little about this subject.
-
May I repeat this thread is not about religion. Presumably there would be convection currents in this morass of chemicals etc. right? So, IF your' cell found its way into an area that circulated certain mineral etc. around, it is forseeable that a colony could develop right? Say this is some little rock pool containing some tainted form of H2O and many other minerals, surrounded by reeking lava and sulphorous fumes. These cells eventually multpily, maybe several different strands become, depending entirely on where in this tiny pool they are located, as in different mineral patches. They maybe become multi-celled, amassing more and more cells until they are big enough to be seen. They sit on the bottom, or attatch themselves to the rock. However, they need some way of movement, because they can't get to all the good minerals. So they maybe have little feelers to help move themselves around. Maybe one of the strains finds that it is easier to absorb other 'creatures', or they just get larger naturally. Eventually, after millions of years there is plant life outside the 'pool' and they grow, before being able to breathe air, growing larger limbs, and exiting water. This is all hypothesising, based on my little knowledge about this subject. This would take millions of years, but it is possible. PRobably mosses would form first, growing around the 'pool', spreading, developing another form of nourishment- photosynthesis- and spreading, evolving, forming reprodctive systems-seeds. Spreading of plant-life. I don't know, no-one knows for sure it is all hypothetical-ness. But terra's and Transtic's theories sound plausible as well. A brief dash of religion to finish this post off- I may be a disbeliever in Supreme beings, or whatever, but God or [insert deity/supreme belief here] may have been of a scientific bent, starting Earth from a very raw material, and watching it grow, and the beings evolve. Who says they weren't? But there is no proof for any belief, no solid, total proof, just faith and reasoning. But evolution sounds quite plausible to me. And would everyone congratulate our new round of moderators? Cheers Drix and terra. And youse others as well. But I know those two. You go guys.

I am aware (or not, that being my point o.0) of my lack of knowledge of American politics, me living in Australia and all, but Bush seems to be a not very good President. He attacked Irag, against the UN, and for reasons un-known. Well, there are the reasons he gave, the reasons conspiracy people gave, and whatever the real reasons were. But anyway, he just doesn't seem like a good, responsible President. All politicians will lie to the public. Most abuse their privileges being in the top-seats of society. Imagine taking a little secret or embarassing thing of yours. Now, imagine that any reporters would do anything to get their hands on it. Now, imagine the whole world would find out your secrets if you didn't hide them, or deny them. I would lie, cheat and steal, for my reputation and life, if I was in the kind of circumstances they are. Plus, people are just greedy. 1/250,000,000 odds are pretty long. She may have done it, and she may have not. Who cares? Maybe the kids in Arkansas are too dumb. No offense. But people like it when they have educational policies. It is immoral not to act on them, but if it gets you into power..... Check the secrets bit above. Vouchers: They are poor, who cares about them... or something. I don't get that issue... [NOTE: I ain't rich, or even half-heeled, but Yeh...] Basically, people will do anything with power. Take any bad stuff you do, and magnify it by 10, or 100 for the added power and capabilities of these people. Doesn't seem so extreme now does it? I'm not saying it is good or fair, but most politicians do it, what is so bad about Hillary? Why pick on her? As TN said, you could dig up dirt on almost every single politician in the world. Does it really matter? As long as you have good policies, regardless if you act on them in power, then people will like you. Also, have a good personality. People want someone they can relate to, someone who seems like they actually give a damn about others. Nobody really knows if they do, but if they look that way, they are in. Bureaucracy has gone mad, but that is life, even if it does suck. Sure Hillary may have no idea, but a lot of others probably don't either.
-
OK, but this needs to have certain levels of differentness. It is normal to be different, but what about when people think of normal- they don't think of everything a person can be, only one kind of average persona, don't they?
-
Eh. I'm not Valley girl. Yeh. Uuh. Just thought I would mention that. What is amusing is that people make threads about stereotypes- with most saying that they are a mix of types, and then we have one on normality. Which was kind of argued about in the stereotypes thread... BAsically everyone is a 'mixer' incorporating different aspects of other people in their life. In this way we are all 'normal' but standards are different, personalities are, and so are circumstances. So, once again, No Normal. Surprise. I don't think anyone here has stated, in a serious, provable way, that there is a normal.
-
I am only in Year 9 now, but I had a big talk about stuff with my mum today, and I wondered- What is college or university like? Do you board? Is it fun? Hard? I personally am really looking forward to it, viewing it with excitement, but I know it will be hard. Basically, I want your opinions on College or University. Any good/bad experiences. Do you have jobs to earn money? How long do you study? Is it enjoyable? Basically, all aspects of college or university I want to know about. I am kind of worried about it, but hey, it is 3 years yet, but I am still interested in learning about it.

Like, my god, I hope that you weren't mimicking me there. Or, like, I'll get my boyfriend to bash you up, he like, does anything I want him to. *giggles* Heh, like WOW, I totally dig your shoes. Like, WOW, so totally diggin this valley girl flair, and style Like *BLEEEEARGH* Heh. Just a question, was that aimed at people as a group, or specifically at someone you know? There is not a normal, in my opinion. People may have similar attributes and methods, but in the end, there is no identical set mindset for normalcy. There are similarities, but then this thread would be called "similarities", no?

I don't see how people can be rude to store assistants. Maybe I have just had an exemplary upbringing (Heh.) but I am never rude to them. They are there to help, not be abused, they don't have to put up with your rubbish, and we should be nice to them. I am never rude to store people, because they are just doing their job. If they are slow *** or act like dickheads, I won't do anything, just get pissed off. But if they are nice, I will be nice, say Hello, How are you? etc. I am nice, if they are nice. Don't be rude, but don't act like they are your best bud either. BE civil, polite, but not over-whelmingly friendly, or any measure of rude. My mum works as uuuh... Secretary? At a police station, and she doesn't deserve to be abused because the police are all out, or because some ****wit has to pay his bill for speeding. Why is it her fault? If you ever feel the need to insult them, take a breath and grow up. Ok, all anger gone. Time for Science period now *riiiiiiiing* Lunch time bell gone :(
