1.
Both are great and at Reti said they stalemated both are quite equal and both have pros and cons both have amazing characters that are unforgetable. How could you say that people cannot name five DC and five Marvel you are not a big fan of comics if you cannot name atleast five from each in a flash. I will read what I like and that is how I see it.
What I mean is normal people who aren't comic fans aren't usually able to, Marvel heroes are so much more publicised, or at least they were. Of course comic fans are going to be able to name five from each easily e.g. Marvel: Spider Man Wolverine Captain America Hawkeye Sue Storm DC: Green Lantern Green Arrow Batman Wildcat Wonder Woman Now, again when you bring up the whole invincible trade mark of DC the only arguments I have seen so far relate to the big three, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. If you delve deeper you are going to see a lot more. For instance Green Arrow's protege, Arsenal, suffered from drug addiction and depression, he also has a kid with one of the DCU's most deadly assassins, Cheshire. Kyle Rayner, the most recent Green Lantern's girlfriend was killed and to be honest he isn't the most heroic of heroes (he and spider-man would get on great ^_~)
Have you read Marvel Knights Spider-Man? Felicia isn't exactly a "hero". (Whixh is one of the things I find appealing about her, though I doubt the Vulture would agree. And if you read the story, you'd get that.)
Of course I haven't read it, if I don't like Spider-Man why would I continuously read one of his titles ¬_¬. And I do realise that Felicia isn't exactly a heroine, more like an anti-hero, which I believe is her appeal (much like Gambit and Wolverine in the X-Men and to a greater extent Catwoman) Another thing that I don't like about Marvel is that there are so many incarnations of one thing, like the amazing amount of X-men titles. It's really quite confusing and difficult to know what's going on. At least with the different titles in DC (such as Batman, Batman Gotham Knights, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight) they all pretty much tie into one another and flow along the same lines. Who would want to be Spider-Man? Who would want to be Batman, who's parents were killed before his very eyes and constantly has to struggle with his own inner demons and psychoses and with the ever increasing war zone that Gotham City has become? In retrospect however, you say that the DCU is all about power play and the sense of invincibility and that I feel is the appeal of DC. It is a form of escapism where you can read about heroes saving the world or even the universe, where mythical heroes do battle with monsters and with with supervillans and their gangs. I don't read about something that could be real. Why would I want it to be real?
2.
When I was a child I liked Marvel better for one reason. Spiderman. -ArV
Spider man annoys me so much. All he does is whine and bitch and whine. "I don't want these super powers *cries*" suck it up! What kind of a spider is blue and red anyway. Now that Black Cat, that is a heroine I respect. She is simply amazing and is one of the only Marvel heroes that I truly do like as a character. I'd love to see her and Catwoman in a crossover comic, oh the escapades and the superhero belittling they'd get up to ^_~.
3. I don't know whether you'll like either of these, but just in case you do tell me which one and I'll make an avatar for you ^_~.
4. I personally prefer DC. I mean I read some of the X-Men titles from Marvel, but not on a regular basis. My collection primarily consists of DC titles like Batman, Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey etc. I think DC represents a much more classic period of comics. Much darker now than in previous decades, DC concentrates on the moral and all encompassing subjects, whereas Marvel seems to focus more on smaller issues in my experience. Created in the 60s, when DC was at the top of its game, Marvel comes across as comics for a new generation. Its like comparing CDs against Records. Marvel is more embeded in pop culture, I mean if you asked an regular joe to name a marvel hero they would probably come up with at least 5 off the bat, whereas with DC they could probably name two at best. (I was so shocked and annoyed when noone in my work place knew who Wonder Woman was, I mean I thought that at least Wonder Woman was recognisable) DC heroes are not invincible, just look at my signature for that sad confirmation. Even with heroes like superman, his seeming invincibility allows for a lot more creativity and expansion of character. If you've read any of the recent Superman issues concerning the Harrowing you'll know what I mean. Sufficed to say, I'm DC all the way. It's all a matter of taste.
5. I was watching the live verdict at about 10.20pm GMT, I was in the pub at the time, and it was like watching the eurovision song contest...which of course means absolutely nothing to you folks living outside of Europe but hey! I'll carry on with my reference. Michael Jackson Case Reader: "Jury found him not guilty on charge 3." Audience/fans: "Yay!" "Woohoo!" *cue much banner waving* Eurovision Song Contest Judge "Estonia, ten points! L'Estonie, dix point!" Audience/singers: "Yay!" "Woohoo!" *cue much banner waving* There was even a woman letting off doves for crying out loud. I bet she called them all Michael too.
6. here's my shot ^_~
7. Here's my shot since you asked
8. Its not as impressive as it looks. Its just a tweaked promo picture of Obi-wan from the Revenge of the Sith. Now if I'd made it from scratch, that would be impressive ^_~
9.
Blankets are one of mankind's greatest inventions, i have one, which is huge. i put a layer of chainmail in the center (not joking) to make it really[/I'] heavy. which is great for winter.
*whistles* Isn't chain-mail expensive, where did you get a whole load of it from to stick in a blanket? Although I'm pretty sure I've heard of the idea before. Anyways, I think blankets are great. I like to use the ones my dogs sleep on because I love the smell of my dogs, the often huddle under with me, its all very comfortable. When I was little I would go everywhere with a large pink blanket/quilty-thing that I would wrap myself up in at any given opportunity. Its also the reason why my brother has a large scar on his head. He was standing on it one day so I yanked it out from under him, causing him to fall and hit his head on the corner of the starcase. Bare in mind he must have been about 5 at the time if not younger. Blankets are dangerous things heh I once read a Gundam Wing fanfic where the five pilots were obsessed with purple blankets, it was amazingly funny ^_~.
10. I was getting some pictures together, trying to look at the phases of Obi-Wan Kenobi from young man to old man. It got me to wondering just what he would look like if Ewan McGregor had continued his role, (I do understand that Ewan played Obi-Wan after IV V and VI were made, but humour me here). So I have created an image that shows this concept in action. Its probably been done before, but I thought I'd just take a stab at it. Enjoy.
11. Everyone always criticises the text, I can never ever get the text right. I have no trouble reading it, prehpas it is the brightness on my monitor *shrugs*. Even though this was supposed to be deleted because it was actually for someone and I just wanted to see how it looked on the boards I suppose I'd better reply to your comments. It is supposed to look like and ordinary banner that someone has gone at with a match or a lighter and has burned, hence the straight edges plus the more rounder 'burn' edges. Like I said, it was an experiment, I do have a batter version where i go rid of some of the pointier parts on the burns, however the text remains the same.
12. See, its all about having the right font, and that DW is an amazing font.
13. here's my shot, I had a bit of difficulty getting the text right.
14. I love doing black and white banners, it makes the incorporation of photographs so much easier ^_^.
15. Woah, hey, I wasn't ridiculing you or flaming you or anything. If my comment came out in any way harsh or disrespectful I'm sorry. I just honestly didn't see the appeal. I wanted an explanation as to how it would work and that is what I recieved. I won't be joining but thankyou for the elightenment. Once again, my appologies.
16.
Nerds: The more extreme geek. Where as geeks are still at a point where they can function normally with society when the need arises, nerds are at a level where they can no longer be considered anywhere near normal. They've usually got a huge collection for some sort of geeky hobby (figures, posters, comics, etc), and enjoy things such as programming and cosplaying.
Hey I collect comics and posters and have cosplayed from time to time and I still function as a productive member of society thank you very much. True I can be considered somewhat excentric at times but I'm not some kind of weasle-like recluse with buck teeth and bad sinuses ¬_¬. Just an example of how stereotypes can be wrong.
17. Umm, what is the point in RPing a story that has already been told? Everyone knows how the story of Rome and Juliet goes, surely such a fixed plotline will make for very dull RP?
18. Liking Nightwish defies all reason *shudders* its this far away from being death metal *holds fingers a millimeter apart*. For some reason all the music that seems to be exported from Finland these days is all fantastical-goth-creepy-operah stuff. Some people say its romantic I'd say psychotic is more like it.
19. A leader and a hero huh? Well a hero doesn't necessarily need to be a leader, nor is a leader always a hero although one can be both a hero and a leader at the same time. In a sense they are two different things. Someone can be viewed as a hero for something the do that is heroic (of course you can get into a debat over what is heroic) something that goes above and beyond the call of duty as it were. A leader is someone who controls a group of people towards a certain goal. Now, one can be a good leader or a bad leader, leader is simply a job description, whereas you can't be a good or a bad hero, hero is a title. If someone is a bad hero they simply cease being a hero. Unfortunately bad leaders can go on being leaders. Does that make sense?
20. Nah, there's always been the misguided few who have lost their way and found themselves in a place they do not recognize nor belong. Those of continuous post quality soon leave and are neither noticed nor remembered by the older patrons among us. However one must always start at a low level, becoming better and more confident with time In the Arena specifically, you don't join and suddenly become good at RPing or creating RPs. You start off crap and work your way up to being good ^_^. Prehaps the fact that we have so many poor RPs is a testament to the amount of new people we have here on the boards who have not seen an above average RP that the can aspire to and so continue creating ones they feel are good and yet are sub-par by experienced players standards. Maybe you should create an excellent RP, letting only those you feel are good RPers who are going to really excel within the world you have created join you. Prehaps then when new starters see such an RP they will know the level they must reach ^_^.
21. what do folks think of this banner, I've just been playing around with styles. EDIT: Sorry, but could this post be deleted I was just testing something and I didn't realise I couldn't delete it myself.
22. Name: Rane Futhark Age: 30 Gender: Female Occupation: Messenger for Council of Roanledge Appearance: Rane is a standard height of 5ft 6inches, firm of build with a toned and rugged look caused by hard riding. Her hair is thick and wavy, a deep chesnut in colour and often tied back using a leather thong. She is by no means a beautiful woman though her features are not displeasing to the eye and many have called her striking to behold. Shining emerald eyes betray little of her thoughts to the outside world. As a messenger for the Roanledge Council Rane is able to dress in well crafted clothing as her appearance reflects upon her employers. When baring a message across country she is not recquired to wear her day to day uniform and so wears a sturdy, tan suede tunic, brown leather breeches and a white shirt. A dark cloak covers her torso and head as she rides, protecting her from the weather. She wears leather bracers upon both wrists over the sleeves of her shirt and her riding boots are knee high and made from supple black leather. Upon her middle finger of her right hand she wears a silver ring bearing the crest of the council to prove her official business as messenger. Upon her hip she wears a thin rapier-like sword, a necessary tool when traversing the dangerous countryside. Personality: Though determined and often stern her outward personality conceals a caring and thoughful individual who values the trust of others and the strength of compasion. She is well, if a little softly spoken but this does not represent a weakness, far from it in fact. She is self assured and confident, though this can lead her to look down upon others she deems to be of lesser ability. She enjoys the chances her occupation provide to see the world outside of Roanledge and this complements the adventure seeking part of her personality, sparking an almost childlike enthusiasm when out in the field. Any Other Information: Her work consumes her and any relationship she has had in the past has been short and unremarkable. Her horse, a solid bay gelding named Archon, is her best friend and they share a close bond. She is trained in the art of fencing and map reading, though even the map of Wendull is a mystery to her.
23. Here's something I found interesting. It might not be what you want but I just though I do it anyway. here's the avatar and here's the original image It just seems to be a bit of a role reversal based on your poem, with the dog being the boy's master.
24. Here's the banner. I've had to make it proportionatley(sp?) smaller, its shorter in width but its also shorter in height too. If I just shortened the width it would become distorted. Are you sure you want Salem written on it, I think it would make it look a bit cluttered and I don't really think its necessary.
25. Wow, two drinks huh? Here's me thinking I was the lightweight around here ^_~. Anyways, of course people can have fun without copious amounts of alcohol. In fact I often think its better that way. I mean, one or two drinks are okay, 'cause they loosen you up and get things going, but after that stuff starts going wrong, people start getting sick, fights happen. Not to mention the whole getting drunken people home thing. You're right, fun is much funner without alcohol, cheers!
