Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread
Kei replied to Charles's topic in General Discussion
As per request some time ago... Manga Workshop Manga Workshop originally appeared on OtakuBoards upon the launch of v7 as a means of giving aspiring manga artists a place of their own separate from the Art & Design forum, and seperate talk of manga from OB Anthology. As the Pokémon forum was dissolved into the Anime Archives during the upgrade, Kei (under the handle of Lady Katana at the time) was placed there as a Moderator and remains as the only Moderator in the forum at the time of writing. Although originally intended for people to post original manga pages and receive feedback from other members, it presently serves as a place to merely receive feedback on manga concepts, which has brought up some debate on whether the forum should be dissolved back into OB Anthology and Art & Design. Trivia: One notable thread project that appeared in the Manga Workshop was Mangaka Corner, a thread intended to showcase the biographies of famous manga artists. However, the thread currently only features two artists and has remained idle for the past two years. Mangaka Corner was featured as an answer to a riddle in the 2006 event "The OtakuBoards Scavenger Hunt." ---------------------------------- Plushies Catergory: Prominent Member Trademarks Plushies were first introduced in Otaku Big Brother II. In the beginning, some of the houseguest's stuffed animals were brought to life by the power of the house (affectionately known as "Rosey") and made to torment the houseguests themselves. Eventually, miniature versions of the houseguests appeared and caused havoc around the house, the most prominent (and famous) among them being Mini-Ken (the miniature version of DeathKnight) and Mini-Ginny (the miniature version of GinnyLyn). The only known person able to control the Plushies entirely is Queen Asuka, whom some of her "subjects" affectionately call her "Miss Queen." Neil (aka Chaos) proved he was able to subdue them through violence for a rather short time at one point in the game. In 2003, Solo Tremaine featured a sub-chapter starring the Plushies in his Enter the Net fanfiction, which later evolved into a webcomic written and drawn by Kei. The webcomic presently has its own website, although it is updated fairly infrequently. Mini-Ken Category: Prominent Member Trademarks Mini-Ken, the Plushie version of DeathKnight, first debuted in Otaku Big Brother II. Mini-Ken was known for being particularly silly and often littered his speech with his catchphrase, "BWEE~!," later being referred to as "an early Gir (from Invader ZIM!)" by some. Despite his seemingly insane personality, Mini-Ken proved himself to be quite intelligent, loyal and a capable fighter, later becoming Queen Asuka's self-appointed knight during their time in the OBB II house. Mini-Ken has a fierce rivalry with Mini-Flash, the Plushie version of Final Flash, that began as soon as the two were created (it would seem). The two had their first altercation near the end of OBB II and was later parodied in the OtakuBoards: Enter the Net chapter, "The OtakuBoards Nativity." -
Hm, as far as I know, it hasn't come up again in terms of who else might have it. Although
the total number of people who have it has risen due to what happened during the "Save Gaara" arc.

Along with Dagger's suggestions, I would also throw in Yu Yu Hakusho, due to the fact that it still has quite the fanbase here in America and is, on the large, a good series for people to break their gums on. As far as other choices, you can always also try and throw some educational manga there like including Barefoot Gen in the mix. Although it would be definitely classified as older teen, considering it does cover what happened in Hiroshima right after the bombing in a fairly detailed manner. Yotsuba&! is a cute and simple little series that can draw people in and is fairly easy to follow, so it's also a nice gum-breaker. If I think of anything else, I'll edit it in.

As Kenshin DX said, making a thread just for the purpose of advertising a site, even if it is a petition, violates our rules. Therefore, this has to be shut down. Trust me, I understand that you're a fan of the series and you don't want it to be over, but that's just how it goes, heh. Thread Closed.

Manga i made a manga and wanted comments on story line
Kei replied to takashi tao's topic in Otaku Central
Long posts are fine; we just ask that members try their best to keep them easy to read for everyone's sake. For that reason, I'm going to reiterate indifference's suggestion of running your posts through Word or Gmail's spell check feature. It really helps out a lot and saves everyone a lot of confusion and the ilk in the long run. As far as the story itself goes... It's a nice concept, at the very least. I agree with everyone else in saying that fleshing out your characters and the plotline would be the best thing right about now. If you check some journals over at deviantART, there are some character quizzes that basically have you go down a list and fill in every possible thing about your character (i.e. general information, likes, dislikes, opinions on certain life matters, et. al.). I think that would help you a lot in the character department. I'll post a link soon so that you can see what one looks like. One thing that I have to question (since Chikara Kokoro hasn't put in their usual two-cents yet), is why everyone has Japanese names. As CK always says, not every manga has to take place in Japan and not everyone has to have a Japanese name (it seems like manga characters are actually taking on more English-sounding names as of late, anyway). Of course, if that's what you're going for, that's perfectly fine. Just letting you know that there are other options, lol. I look forward to seeing more of this. ^^ (Oh, and specialed, we're not evil; just misunderstood. :p) -
Techinically, you've got those backwards, MangaGirl, lol. Although it varies greatly from person to person, shounen-ai is typically the softer, more fluff-based works (Eerie Queerie!), while most folks associate the term yaoi with more hardcore things (like Happy Play). Just thought I'd throw that in there. ^^;

Mkay, so. 325. Or what I like to call "Kishimoto's WTF Craziness Chapter."
It was easy to figure out that Shikamaru was going to get what's going on with Hidan's whole "curse" deal. Admittedly, when I first saw Asuma "take care" of him, that was my first shock of the chapter, but since I've never really seen Asuma on a mission, I suppose that's just how he works with things of this nature. However, the whole thing with Hidan still being alive afterward, which makes no bloody sense by all accounts, has really got me going.
By the title of the next chapter, it might be revealed exactly what made him this way, but I'm curious to see what you all think about it.

There are a few manga making programs that are out there, you just have to search for them. The most widely used and known would be Manga Studio. They recently came out with v3 and they have a free trial on their website for it, if memory serves me right. You would have to search via Google for the url, as it escapes me at the moment.

The Artists and Writers Recruiting thread, while it hasn't been posted in for some time, is still very much available for asking for help with projects. Please use that instead of making a seperate thread, as this exact thing is why it's a Sticky. ^_~ Thread Closed

The last game I bought would be Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean for the GCN. I'm totally in love with it. The storyline, the graphics, the characters: everything about it is amazing to me. I can't get enough, heh. I played it for 12 hours straight when I first got it, because I wanted to see the plot unravel so much. Unfortunately for me, I'm in the middle of term, so I haven't been able to play it as much as I used to, but I plan on making up for lost time when the semester breaks come. I'm pretty close to the end, though, which makes me a bit sad.

In the future, it'd be a better idea to bring this type of stuff over to the Manga Workshop. The name might throw you a bit, but we talk about webcomics and the like over there, and how to improve them. Thought you might appreciate a bit of specific guidance. ^_~ Anyway, as far as the comic itself goes, your art style is good and you have nice paneling. You may want to focus a bit more on your speech balloons, spacing and punctuation, however. With speech balloons, you always want to leave a bit of white space all around the text. Not too much, though; about three-five pixels is a nice range. Also, you may want to consider trying to find the Digital Strip font online (you can usually find it at 1001 Fonts for free). It's pretty standard for professional-looking comics online. Not to say that it's the be all and end all font; there are plenty of comics that use different ones. It all depends on your preference. I personally think the text would look better in Digital Strip, but that's just me. In the third panel, I think that particular speech balloon didn't have to be a pointed one; a speed-lined or regular one would have been fine. Again, just my opinion. Also, punctuation is just as important in comics as it is in any book. Just give your copy the once-over before you flatten your layers, heh. That's all from me.

Hm, I suppose your theory currently makes the most sense, Ilkillion. I also remember that part coming up in the anime somewhere, though I can't remember who said it. Probably Kankuro. Anyway, something's been bugging me a bit about Gaara:
Whenever Gaara is sleeping or knocked unconcious, the Shukaku takes over, ya? So why didn't it rear its ugly head when Deidara took Gaara out of commission? I'm thinking that it might have been largely due to the fact that Gaara expended most of his chakra blocking Deidara's attack against the Sand Village, but Bijuu typically have their own store of chakra seperate from the Jinchuuriki's, as is the case with Naruto and Kyuubi.
So, yeah. What do you all think about that?
-

As far as I can tell, Gaara is pretty as much normal as he can be, as the Akatsuki still have the Ichibi in their possession. Although I originally thought the sand control originated from the Ichibi, it was apparently Gaara himself that mastered it, as was shown when he used it to make Naruto shake his hand at the end of the "Save Gaara" arc.
That's my assumption, anyway.
However it must have some kind of a price. [/SIZE']
I've been wondering about that myself, to be honest. I'm thinking that
the ritual he does every time he kills is directly tied to it. What he draws looks like (and forgive me for the reference) a transmutation circle. And we all know the First Law of Alchemy, heh.
Anyway, I'm sure his overconfidence will get the better of him and he'll spill about it to Asuma just as he's about to give a "deathblow" or some such thing, lol.

Welcome to OtakuBoards, Anime Dreamer00. ^^ Glad you decided to join in on the fun. Keep in mind in the future that we enocourage our members to use proper punctuation and grammar when they post. You don't have to be perfect all the time (none of us are), but just keep it in mind for me, mkay? :) Also, we ask that member use spoiler tags to cover up important plot points that other member may not have read yet. Anyway, on to the subject at hand. I own the Bo-bobo manga, and I must say, it's just as random and insane (if not more so) than it's anime counterpart. Although, it just seems to pick up from nowhere, which was actually a bit annoying and off-putting when I first started to read it. (I suppose that's part of the plot itself, though, heh. Sawai-sensei sure knows how to go completely nuts with a storyline, or lack thereof.) Anyway, all the various puns and everything tend to go straight over my head at times, but the random violence and humour make up for the confusion, heh. I also agree that when
Atemu made a surprise appearance, it was pretty funny. But to get a specially drawn piece from your idol, wow, heh. Sawai must have been thanking his lucky stars that Takahashi-sensei was so nice.
People who love random anime (i.e. Quack Experimental Manga: Excel Saga) should definitely give this a go.
Hm, it seems that Hidan's jutsu is quite troublesome, indeed, especially if he is impervious to damage, as is my assumption. Still, needing to consume the enemy's blood first is a bit freaky, as is the transformation (which kind of remids me of Gein from RuroKen). Anyway, Asuma is really acting more than a bit strange and I think Shikamaru is right to worry. I mean, it really hasn't been explained as to why Asuma went to visit Sandaime, aside from the fact that it was a son visiting his father's grave, which may be the reason that he's acting strangely. (By the way, wouldn't that make Konohamaru Asuma's kid? Weird. Oo; )
So yeah. Definitely many odd things and freakyness going about.

Hi there, everyone. ^^ I'm looking for a new banner and avatar set, and since I've recently fallen hard for Ouran High School Host Club, I was wondering if it would be possible for someone to make me a ban/avi set of Hikaru and Kaoru from the series. Any pictures you use would be fine. The only specifications that I ask for is that it be very shoujo-like (i.e. pastel colours and slightly faded) and the text "The Devil-Types: Hikaru & Kaoru" somewhere on it in any style you wish. ^^ Other than the things I mentioned, go completely crazy with it. Thank you very much in advance for your generosity, whomever decides to lend a hand. -Kei

I thought we did have an OB group over yonder. Chromosome Cowboys ring a bell? lol Anyway, that usually gets updated when I'm on one of the school computers, since that's where I have the plug-in loaded, but going there now will let you know just how much of a whore I am for DDR music. XD

I read all the way from the end of the Naruto vs. Sasuke fight in Part I up to the current chapter in three days... Crazy information overload. @_@ Anyway, 322!
Anyway, it looks like Naruto won't be completing his Rasengan Revised for a while yet. And what with Kyuubi rearing his head again, it'll probably get a lot more difficult before it gets easier. On another note, is anybody else wondering what the hell is up with Kakuzu's partner (whose name escapes me at the moment)? Is he just unable to die or what? (As a side note, his design totally reminds me of Joker from the R.O.D. series...)

I ain't not no Mario enemy, foo!
I think Mimminx was thinking of a Bomb-omb, lol. Anyway, I'm thinking Solo might be a little off with his answer, so I'm going to venture a guess and say that the answer to #4 is O_o. Anybody who would be spying on our lot from afar would definitely get a look like that on their face, lol.

Adam told me about this last night. I was pretty stunned. I mean, he was Steve Irwin, for crying out loud. I still really don't know what to say about it. But... well, at least he died as a result of doing what he loved. Rest in peace, Steve.

Welcome to OB, Elfen Lied. Just so you know, we don't allow people to post links to scanslation sites or anything of the sort. We prefer that you keep requests of that nature to signature adverts, if you must for whatever reason, and ask for response through Private Message. Also, in the future, while it's not necessay to make an extremely long post, one or two line posts like the one you started this thread with aren't typically acceptable, due to the fact that you could just as easily use a sig advert asking the same thing. Just so you know. ^_~ And seeing how you question has been answered, I believe I'll got ahead and shut this down. If you have any questions, feel me to PM/IM me or one of the Category Moderators or Site Admins. ^^ Thread Closed

A lot of bookstores that sell manga and the like don't carry a lot of yuri titles (girl-girl relationships) because it hasn't been licensed very much, but if I'm correct, they're trying to pick up here lately. Dagger would know more about it than I would. Anyway, I do like Gravitation, but it is a yaoi (or boy-boy relationship manga), so since you say that you don't like that sort of thing, it may not be your cup of tea. Also, there are plenty of male-female relationship manga on the shelves. It's just a matter of taste, heh. Oh, and Shiros_Hime, I direct you to the Loveless thread to talk about it proper. ^_~

Welcome to OB. ^^ Just so you know, we don't allow double-posting here at OtakuBoards. If you need to add something to your post, hit the Edit button at the bottom-right of your post and add to it that way. ^_~ I fixed it for you this time, but just remember this in the future, mkay?

Mother Charged with Rape of daughter PG-13 rating
Kei replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
What's disturbing to me is that more of these cases are coming up lately. Or at least being exposed to the public. There's likely many more that the police aren't aware of. One example that I can think of offhand is that a couple in my city was recently accused of over 60 charges involving their five adopted children including rape while they were between ages 6 and 16. It's a real shame that people would do this to children. But most people won't or don't know how to go about steps to prevent it, which is an even bigger shame. :/
