Tell me if I'm being too blunt, but western people just aren't good with pronouncing asian names.
...I'll have to disagree with you there, heh. My Japanese professor says my pronounciation is one of the best she's heard for a non-native. ^^; Anyhow, cancer's small guide will help you get on your way. It takes a lot of practice in order to get it somewhat decent and you'll probably always have a slight foreigner's accent no matter what, but as the old saying goes, "practice makes perfect."

I've seen some sample stuff made with Manga Studio 3.0. I have to say, if you use it right, you really can't tell the difference between it and things made by hand. It's definitely worth the free trial download, at least. As for colouring, spending some time working with Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro is the only thing I can suggest. ^^;

Well, since everyone wonderfully chipped in with a response to the much-debated question, there's really no reason to keep this open any longer, is there? ^^

Speed Cameras: Should cameras be used to catch speeding motorists?
Kei replied to Aaryanna's topic in General Discussion
Recently, here in Dayton, there was a special news report about how school buses are running red lights and speeding through intersections and such, as of which was caught on the speed cameras throughout the city. Without them, it's highly likely that no one would have voiced a concern about school bus drivers being so reckless. Since people are concerned about being ticketed (as has already been said), they will likely not speed (which they shouldn't be in the first place). So for those reasons, among others, I'm glad of them. Sure, there are people who will ignore them and continue doing what they're doing, but the ensuing fines and court costs are their problem. -
Welcome to OtakuBoards. Hope you enjoy your time here. ^^ Typically, we don't allow members to create introduction threads around OB. We prefer to let members introduce themselves through their posts. That way, they don't have to come up with stiff intros (though that doesn't seem to be the case here, heh ^^; ). But with all that being said, I'll have to close this. Please don't take it personally, though. ^^;

Hm... Taking into account that this deals more with animation than manga-making, I'm thinking you can get better assistance over in the Art Studio. That being said... *moves*

Name: Allisa Osborne Age: 22 Gender: Female Place of Origin: Born in Weisbaden, Germany (on an American military base), but raised in Forestville, MD, a small town about 25 minutes outside Washington, D.C. Known History: Allisa was born into a relatively average family; not rich, not poor, had its fair share of problems. Growing up had its ups and downs, like every other family, but her parents dug themselves into a rut that they've never quite gotten out of when she was 18, mostly financial. Luckily, she was still able to enter college despite it and avoided most of the problems at home. Doing work-study to pay for the parts of the tuition the few scholarships she received didn't cover, she managed to get though school and graduated with a B.A. in Fine Arts. With it, she managed to get a job at a local newspaper, mainly working on layout and ad design, but also freelancing articles from time to time. The pay was enough for her to get an apartment in one of the slightly rougher areas of town, but she doesn't bother anyone and no one bothers her, so it works out. Not having a boyfriend or anything of the sort, she lived alone, but occasionally took in a stray cat or two some nights when she was feeling particularly lonely. Personality: Allisa's personality seems to change depending on her mood. She can be very fun-loving and care-free one moment, then broody and touchy the next. Often times, she'll try to be very buddy-buddy with someone if she wants something. However, she is a very kind person at heart and can't bare to see someone suffering to horrible extents. Appearance: Allisa has tanned-looking skin and dark brown hair, which, for some odd reason, makes people believe she is of Hispanic descent. Slightly on the husky side, she often wears slightly baggy clothing to make herself look small. Other than that, nothing really jumps out about her, save for her slightly gold-coloured eyes and fingernails, which she always keeps slightly long and fairly sharp from constant filing. Animal Genes: Common housecat (felinius domesticus) Hybrid Abilities: Being that she's been fused with a cat, Allisa's hearing has been greatly heightened. She also has the ability to fall from slightly high distances while being able to land on her feet (though not from too high). Her flexibility has also been enhanced.

Manga Hiring Manga Artists and other manga positons for Team Darkeye
Kei replied to a topic in Otaku Central
If you want to try and gather people to work on a project, you are more than welcome to use the Artist and Writer Recruiting Thread located at the top of the forum as a Sticky. That being said, thread closed. -
First off, there's no need to create a new thread about your manga when there already one on the front page. Just use the Edit button located at the bottom-right of your post to add in what you need to. Second, we don't allow people to double-post on the boards, save for rare occasions in OB Anthology. Please remember this as you continue to post. Feel free to edit this information into your other thread. Thread Closed

The most obvious thing that could go here would be Fruits Basket. They left the series entirely too open-ended for the people who don't read the manga (which is all of three people, I know). But it certainly would be great to see them make a second season to put in all of the other important things they didn't get to in the first.

This may be a long-shot, but I think Takanutsu was thinking about Suikoden. Like I said, a long-shot, but I've made similar mistakes in the past. ^^; Anyway, about Genishiken, I've read the first volume and it was slightly interesting. The plot doesn't go as fast as I like (and at the moment it doesn't seem all that spectacular), but the artwork is nice at times. So, to sum things up, not my favorite, but I'd read it if there was nothing else around.

Sorry to tell you, but we usually don't allow members to post threads asking where they can download scanslations of licensed manga or anything of the sort. Nothing is stopping you from placing an advertisement in you signature, however. ^^ That being said, thread closed.

Lillian leaned on the edge of her window sill, watching as the dawn rose and started a new day. To anyone else, it might be the start of another day of school or another day of cleaning up around the house. But for Lillian, not to mention several others, today was the start of a journey. A journey that you're never fully sure what will have in store, but it was exciting, nonetheless. Lillian couldn't wait. She'd get to travel all on her own. Well, technically, she wouldn't be alone. She had Aron, after all. She began thinking back on the times that she and Aron had together, amazed that there was once a time where she didn't even care for the little thing. "Geez, I was such a stupid kid back then. But it's okay now. I'll make sure nothing like that ever happens again..." At the sound of her voice, it seems, Aron stirred. Yawning mightily, it walked over to its owner, nuzzling her ankle. Lillian shivered from the cold touch of its face and bent down to pet it. "You'd think after all these years, I'd be used to that by now." Aron seemed to snicker in response and nuzzled her hand, then slowly walking over to the closed door, looking behind and calling after her. Fortunately, Lillian had long ago taught Aron not to run at it, since the door replacement bills started getting ridiculous after the fifth time. "So, you want to go downstairs, eh? I suppose we should. Maybe we can get a look at our new rivals," Lillian said with a smile. Gathering up her back pack containing her belongings, she walked over and opened the door, eventually following her friend down the hall to the main stairwell.

There's already a forum like that; it's called Otaku Lounge, heh. Any member can voice their specific opinions on anything they want in the O. Lounge; the only thing is that there will be people who disagree and will debate with you on certain things. It's inevitable around here, lol.

Well, when a book goes out of print, that typically means that all of the copies of that particular book have been sold and there aren't plans to do another printing, making the books somewhat rare, depending on how many were produced. You would more than likely be able to find a few copies on eBay, if you searched around.

Ah, Chrno Crusade. The anime that left me and so many of my friends so bitter, lol. Now, don't get me wrong. I really liked the anime. It has great characters and great animation and everything, but...
It's the ending that gets me. I mean, Chrno and Rosette are out there in that shack for six months and don't even express how they truly feel for one another. Then you add in the fact that heart-wrenching scene when Rosette says she doesn't want to die and still ends up dying... That had me in tears. It really did. And don't get me started on the whole "angel losing his faith in God" thing. --; My goodness. Though I do have to say that having Aion come back after all that was the biggest plot twist in the history of anime, at least to me.
So, yeah. It's a great anime, but for the above reasoning... it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
I hope i didnt spoil anything i did say there was a spoiler :catgirl:
Hence why we have lovely little things known as spoiler tags here on OB. Just put "[ spoiler] TEXT HERE [/ spoiler]" without the spaces and quotation marks and a bar will appear over your text, just like I did with your post. It's that easy. ^_~

Name: Lillian Grove Age: 17 Gender: Female Appearance: Hand-made drawing of Lillian from Tucana City Trainer ID Number: 26505 Personality: In a nutshell, I'm a very adventurous young lady. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (my father's words), I'm always eager to go out and find new Pokémon to catch and train. I'm not easily daunted on my various endeavors as I travel around, always willing to give another go at the next level should I meet up with defeat. I'm also very friendly and eager to meet new people, either through a random circumstance or through a Pokémon battle. Personal History: Being the daughter of a Pokémon professor, I've been around Pokémon all my life, hence my love for them. Even when I was a child, I would help my father with his research in my own way, catching Caterpies and Wurmples with my net and bringing them back home for my father to "examine" (thus why there seem to be an abundance of Butterfree, Beautifly and Dustox on the Grove estate). Being Grove's daughter also means that I'm well-traveled. There's almost no place in Belrie that I haven't been (except for the Vespa Forest, for obvious reasons). Joining the Belrie League seems like the best thing for me, since I want to see more of the Pokémon out there for when I become a professor myself. You can never have too much information! Equipment: I'll be taking the following items: Potions x5; Trainer Specs; Pokémon Feeder (personal); Pokémon Caller (Caterpie-style); PokéTech Ball x3, Dive Ball x2, Net Ball x1, Luxury Ball x1; camping supplies (tent, sleeping bag, change of clothes, lantern, trail mix, etc.); Pokémon food. As you can see, only the most necessary equipment. Preferred Starter Choice: If it would be all right, I would like to start out with the Aron that my father has given me. He caught it for me while on a trip and we have a very close bond. I feel that it would get very lonely if I were to leave it behind.

Haha, amazing what little stop-throughs can get you at times. Anyway, here's a little something I came across a bit ago: Should provide some interesting entertainment. Have at it.

There are a lot of titles covered there, almost all of them with a nice description with them. ^^ All that being said, I'm going to go ahead and close this up. Be sure to chech the thread. ^^ Thread Closed.

It's the only thing I'm relatively good at, so I guess I'll throw in my two-cents. With shading, there are a few things to consider, but none more important than the light source, which you know about already. What most people don't think about other than the general position of the source is how intense the light is. It often helps with colouring as well as shading. Anyway, when it comes down to shading in general, it's all about pressure. Since you stroke from side to side, I would assume that it might be a little bit harder to do, though. But, it's not impossible. Try turning your picture lengthways (which would somewhat translate to you shading lengthways as well. It's my weird logic, but it might help.) Start from the edge and only press the pencil down very lightly, stopping where you need to. Then, taking your light source into account, think about where the shadow would be darker (usually near the edge you started shading at). Keep going over that area, applying a little more pressure each time. Eventually, you'll come out with what you call a "gradient"; colour or shading that fades into either a darker or lighter version of itself. You should practice with gradients before you try and use them on actual pictures, though. I hope that helps in some fashion. ^^;
