All of the Pokémon are low levels.
What I've found is that the best way to grind once you hit Kanto is to battle every trainer you come across and be sure to get their phone numbers when you battle them. You can cross-reference when they're usually available to battle with the listing that Serebii.net has on their site, as opposed to just waiting for them to buzz you for a battle (but that works, too). But yeah, until you beat all the Kanto Leaders and manage to make it to Mt. Silver, grinding is pretty hard in Kanto.

  5. Regarding the little blurb that Al mentioned before, I was eyeballing the avatar space we have now and it looks like it has a maximum of 250 pixels. If we were to increase the width and want set a new landscape standard, 200x125 may make a nice base. I think it gives a nice little letterbox look. It also still lets people use the old 150x80 library (if and when we get that back) and allows for a slightly wider dimension array.

  8. [strike]Why, yes, I am proud of that thread title. =p[/strike] Well, I don't feel so special, since someone else apparently used it first. =/ But on to the issue at hand. What's apparently got America in its latest tizzy are the new Texas social studies guidelines. According to sources, several people have criticized the new curriculum for "politicizing education". Article about the changes complete with some footage from the meetings. CNN video. The AP covers some of the debate over changes to the curriculum. AP Video on the issue. From what I've read, civil rights leaders, teachers and other congressmen have started voicing concerns about the new set of teaching standards, largely because some text publishers change the content of their books based on what Texas' books say (since they have a very large student population) and this curriculum can spread to other states. Personally, thinking about how some child in future will potentially call the slave trade the "Atlantic triangular trade" and mention how the Founding Fathers may not have wanted a separation of church and state is slightly unsettling. =/
  9. I'll give you the residential area. There may not be as many troops out there, but there are a few. It's not entirely unreasonable not to be fully spotted. As far as the air strikes go, as this was largely supposed to be a quick little scare strike, settling on the ground and bombing places presents too much risk in that a bird on the ground is far less likely to dodge any sort of projectile. I will admit that it was a miscommunication on both our parts, so. In any case, what you have there is largely fine, though Falkner will still have words for the both of them.
  10. The size of the squad is fine. The thing is, though, that the mission here was really supposed to be more of a precision tactical air raid, so Falkner may not (read: will not) be pleased about there being ground action involved. And since the city is already on alert and there are troops on the ground, the squad's escape might be a bit more harried than your post would lead one to believe. There wouldn't necessarily be casulaties, but you'll probably have a bit of a rabble behind you. =p

    The Great Rebellion

The northern winds had started to turn harsh as Falkner and his men made their preparations on the cliff side. Many had already put on their goggles reserved for high winds just to keep the drifting snow for stinging their eyes. Falkner looked as he saw some of his men huddle together, flashing signals between them about the turn in weather so they wouldnâ??t have to lower their shawls. â??Sir, it may not be wise to launch a full attack now,â? signed one of Falknerâ??s lieutenants, a slender young woman with sharp-cut hair and narrow eyes. â??I know this region. The storm will only get worse from here.â? â??I realize that, Gloria,â? Falkner signed back with a reproachful glance. â??Thatâ??s why this isnâ??t a full attack.â? â??Sir?â? â??This is only a scare tactic. Pryce is old and stubborn, but striking a few key points may help him get the message. If not, we can always come back once the conditions are more calm.â? The woman stood still. â??Do you not trust my judgment, lieutenant?â? â??I was only trying to present the facts, sir.â? â??And while thatâ??s appreciated, donâ??t forget whoâ??s in command. I know what Iâ??m doing.â? The dangerous gleam in Falknerâ??s eye received a sharp salute. â??My apologies, sir.â? â??Go ready your birds and tell the others to do the same.â? â??Sir.â? Falkner looked up at the clouded sky. It was true that a storm was coming and a big one at that; the gray pallor of the clouds was steadily becoming black. They already didnâ??t have much time to make the strike and their window was getting smaller by the minute. If there was a time to send a message, this was it. â??Everyone, prepare to take off!â? Falkner shouted, turning to his gathered force. â??Strike near the Center and the homes, but leave the Gym to me!â? * â??We need more girders in here, unless you like having brain damage!â? Val was monitoring the progress of the tunnel from inside the excavation, making sure the Graveler stayed on target and had a good pace going. Cecil stood beside the Machoke hefting girders into place along the sides of the tunnel, helping to weld the beams together. â??Cecil, double torch those beams,â? Val said after moving her dust mask out of the way. â??We need to make sure theyâ??re going to hold for a good while.â? The Magmar puffed a shot of flame in response and waddled back to beginning of the tunnel to redo his work. The work had only been doing on for a few hours, but the energy the workers presented had surprised Val. They were on a fast pace to break through the eastern wall of the mountain and while it wouldnâ??t shave too much time off her estimate, Val figured any extra time they gained off the project would probably benefit her client. It was shaping up to be a fairly wide gateway. While the roof itself wasnâ??t very high, it was wide enough to fit four people shoulder-to-shoulder fairly easily. The floor was still a bit rough underfoot, but once the basic structure and supports were done, Machop would stomp the ground flat to make for easy trekking. The steel girders that were placed along the sides were connected along the top, with criss-crossing mesh setting on top of the frame to ensure any loose pieces of rubble wouldnâ??t knock someone unconscious. Val had begun marking the progress of the tunnel on her plans when Evan kneeled beside her. â??You know, if I had a hammer in my hands, you would probably have a good-sized knot on the side of your head or worse,â? Val said with a sideways glance. â??Then youâ??d be in the weeds without such a great assistant. But Iâ??m not here to shoot the breeze. Iâ??ve got some news.â? â??Please tell me itâ??s good.â? â??I wish,â? Evan said as he sidled closer and lowered his voice. â??Seems like thereâ??s trouble over the mountains. I heard someone shouting over in the Gym that they needed to help over in Ecruteak.â? â??â?¦thatâ??s not good at all.â? â??No. I think weâ??re working on a smaller time frame than you thought, Chief.â? â??It seems that way, doesnâ??t it.â? Val sighed heavily and began to weigh her options. If her client was stressed, that was going to put stress on her. It was probable that a request to complete the project faster was forthcoming, which wasnâ??t too unreasonable. However, if they expected anything within half a day, they would be fooling themselves. â??So. What do we do, Val?â? â??Weâ??re not going to pre-empt the speed order until we have to. Once we get there, weâ??ll have to forego integrity for a little bit and just get the tunnel dug, then put in the supports as quick as we can.â? â??Val, youâ??re frowning.â? â??No, Iâ??m not.â? â??You kinda are.â? â??Go get me more Graveler, Evan.â? â??Okay, but if you donâ??t stop, your face is gonna get stuck that way,â? Evan said as he stood. â??Do you want me to go find a hammer?â? â??Iâ??m going, Iâ??m goingâ?¦â? Val sighed as the turned over her plans and began making new calculations. This was going to be difficult.
  16. What the hell, I haven't posted here yet? What is wrong with me. > > Anyway, I've already beaten the Elite Four and am making my way through Kanto. I'm at Cerulean City and just turned in the Machine Part, so I have my Magnet Train (yay, no more S.S. Anne). I'm gonna challenge Misty, but I'm dreading battling Red. Lv. 88 Pikachu ftl. 17. Tapeperson: Though they don't use it all that often, "aishite iru" or "aishiteru" does literally translate to "I love you." The Japanese just have it built into their society to not express too much affection out in public or risk the stink eye, so they don't say it out in the open very much. lol Anyhow, the thing that always baffled me was about their game shows and how based on humiliation they are. I studied Japanese culture in college and drew a conclusion that because of how stressful they make their lives, they must use the gameshows to give people something to point, laugh at and say "He's worse off than I am". At least, that's what I'm telling myself so it makes some kind of sense. > >
  18. Like I said, we're not changing -what the Pokémon can do-. We're broadening the scope of focus. The world is not all about battling. People do other things. As an even more concrete example, the focus of this RP is not the fact that people fighting. It's the -effect- the fighting is having on the people and the world as a whole. Battling is just one small part.
  19.
I just don't see how a pokemon with abilities like fire, lightning and poison or whatever, couldn't be used for battle.
Before modern times, Pokémon that could use fire were like used to help create cooking fires and were possibly used to light old time lamp posts and things like that. These days, Pokémon that use electricity can be utilized as back up generators (something that actually happened in the Lake of Rage subplot in Gen. II/IV).
...when the creators of pokemon made them it was there intention to have them fight each other.
Yes and no. The creators intended to show a universe where the human population co-exists with creatures that use supernatural powers. Battling Pokemon actually derived from the co-habitation.
anime, manga, games, cards.... they all are the same, i would say the only pokemon thing not meant for violence is the figurines.
See above point.
this is your story though so if you want pokemon that cant fight, why not?
It's not that Pokémon can't fight: it's that this was not their original intended purpose. Pokémon develop their powers as a means of self-defense and as a means of getting on with their own lives. Once humans discovered their various powers and purposes, they began using them to help better human society. As society progressed and technology improved, people found less use for them as tools of daily living and thus, Pokémon battling gradually became a pastime. There are still areas where Pokémon are used as tools to this day, however.
you could say that only trainers can make them attack at will.
It would be better to say that competitive trainers can command their Pokémon to battle with others to gain experience and/or further themselves in competition.
in real life you cant comand your cat to attack people no matter how much it likes you however people who train dogs for protection can. it has nothing to do with the cat not listening to you, it just means you never told it to do it before, so it doesn't know what your asking right now.
The Juicy Fruit Attack Kitten says otherwise. =p However, I don't understand the point you're trying to make with this statement. It sounds like you're trying to make a point about Pokémon using attacks that it's not supposed to know yet, which is a whole 'nother kettle of fish. lol The general point that I'm trying to make is that Pokémon are not solely designed to be lean mean fighting machines. Both in the game and in the anime, it has been shown that people and Pokémon can work together to make a better society (there're no conservationalist undertones here, no sir). Take for instance the short Pikachu and Pichu, which came before Pokemon 3 the Movie: Spell of the Unown. After the various hijinx, it showed a lot of Pokémon working together to help rebuild a playground in an urban area. The Squirtle Squad eventually became an all Pokémon fire-fighting team. At various times in the anime, Ash and countless other trainers have used their Pokémon to get out of tough real-life situations. That's had nothing to do with battling. That's using a Pokémon to make everyday life easier and using Pokémon to save lives. So, while our story does have a lot of grit to it, the realistic elements of using Pokémon to help things along isn't entirely Farfetch'd. (I couldn't resist.)
  20. Oh, the legendaries are definitely in this world and some are active. Since Suicune is somewhat tied to Ecruteak, it wouldn't be too out of the way for a possible sighting, but any action on its part would be negligable at this point in time. As far as the trainer population, it's moderate. People still use Pokemon in their day to day lives from anything as beasts of burden to housekeepers (I'm looking at you, Mr. Mime). But in terms of competitive battling trainers, I would say that it only makes up a small percentage of the workforce.

Did that until the death of the forum (on which date, I shed a tear) and came to Mod the Manga Workshop, which is now Manga Alley. Here recently, I was made a Cat Mod (appropriate, since I'm Ceiling Cat now) of all the artsy bits of OB, and I'm quite happy. I'm one of the official lurkers of OB: I may not say much, but I'm always watching. Always. Why: I originally came to OB to be a nerd and yuk it up with fellow nuts. Nowadays...I stay because I have a tie to this place. It's one of the few things from my younger days (I say that like I'm ancient) that's actually around. 22. Ace, it's perfectly fine that you would include that at the end. It does make sense that there would be rogues and bloodthirsty people amid the ranks. There's always one person that breaks the stigma of a group somewhere in there. You're good. ;3 CaNz, it's fine if people want to wait until certain events have passed. We've said before it's a post-as-you-will environment here. It's no big.

  24. I most recently purchased two compilation albums, Queen and Porcupine Tree. The Queen one was only one disc, but it has Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Bicycle Race. Good enough for me, lol . Would have been happier if it had Bohemian Rhapsody, but any Queen is good Queen. As far Porcupine Tree, that was their The Delirium Years two-disc set. Trippy stuff, some of that. > >
  25. Hey there. Welcome to OB. Just FYI, a good way to tell if a thread is still active is to check the last post date. This thread is nearly a decade old, so it's safe to say people have moved on to greener pastures. If you look in the Auditions subforum, you can usually find some more up to date things. Best, Kei
