Originally posted by James mirai_torankusu, I have to applaud you. This is one of the most intelligent and well-conceived gaming threads we've ever had. I'm so pleased that you've stuck around and added so much to the variety in these forums. You're now one of my favourite newbies. lol
Why do people insist on feeding my ego lol? That was the last thing I was expecting when I put this up. Basically, most of the things have been said: competition is both a blessing and a curse (as demonstrated by Sega, who competiton has both helped and hurt). But I have to say one thing to James, and that is I don't deserve all of the credit for making this thread. I read way too much Electronic Gaming Monthly and they talk just about every month about how good things would be if every console could compete well in the market, because that would mean more games. So, I basically got the idea for this from my worship of EGM.

I was having a conversation with a friend recently and I jokingly mentioned that I haven't heard a Nine Inch Nails song in a while, because they barely ever play them on the radio. So, we got out The Downward Spiral and listened to it. All I have to say is, how could I have gone so long without Nine Inch Nails? NIN is simply an amazing band and it makes me sad that there aren't more fans of the band here (or maybe I just haven't noticed them, who knows? I really only see Semjaza talk about the band). NIN's music style is just so different from anything I've ever heard and Trent's vocal style is very pleasing to hear even if some people think that the graphic nature of his lyrics are not (which I don't). Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some more Nine Inch Nails to listen to. Edit: Well, I'm back and Trent Reznor has yet again rekindled my faith in music. For some reason, I just can't get enough of NIN lately. I really need to scrounge up the money to see him live. The music is just genius and the songs are passionately written and I usually end up enjoying live music more, so hopefully I can see him and deem it the coolest show ever.

Well, I understand what you're saying, seeing as this is in the Nintendo forum, but I am by no means limiting this to Nintendo. There are plenty of companies (EA in particular, in my opinion) that tend to slack off a little when there's no competition. Edit: Trying very hard not to flip out right now. As I've said before, just because I put this into the Nintendo forum, I'm not saying Nintendo is guilty of slacking off. Although, I do have to admit that they are guilty of rehashing (just look at Pokemon and some of the Kirby games if you don't believe me). I'm pretty much saying that this is a general theory (although, I will admit that it isn't always true, but it does hold some water more often than not).

I'm a pretty big System of a Down fan. Unfortunately, I was one of those late comers who didn't hear about them until I saw their video on MTV (this way back in the day when MTV actually showed videos lol). For some reason, Chop Suey! has always annoyed me, but I still enjoy the song. They're really very talented and they fool you into thinking that all of their sounds are very simple, but they aren't (I sure wouldn't be able to play some of the stuff they play without a lot of practice). My favorite songs of there's are Jet Pilot because it just goes real fast and I like the sound and Forests because for some reason, I just can't stop listening to the song. It has some crazy spell-binding effect on me. Also, all that Armenian (I assume it's Armenian because three out of the four band members are Armenian) music at the end of Aerials is pretty calming to listen to as well.

I read in Electronic Gaming Monthly about the time that FFX came out and it said that Square would be interested in making a gaiden (side-story) game with maybe Cloud and Tifa or Aeris, but that's all I've heard on the subject. I think that they were just throwing around the idea, but I don't know if they were totally serious on the subject.

Excuse me if this has been a thread before (I looked around and couldn't find anything like this that wasn't less than a few months old). On nearly every message board you see, you can find fanboys (and sometimes fangirls) arguing over which system is "best" or which system will die first. But when you think about it, why do people want to see other companies fail? Competition in gaming is a godsend. The more consoles that can successfully hold a place in the market, the better. In my humble opinion, the best time in gaming was when Sega and Nintendo were battling each other for market supremacy. They both knew that had to make better games then each other and that they had to get the major third parties on their side to remain on top. The extreme competition between these two companies led to some of the greatest games ever released in the history of gaming. Without competition, gaming wouldn't be nearly as good as it is today. If Nintendo and Microsoft were to "die" so to speak, do you think that Sony's games would be as good as they are? Maybe I'm completely wrong, because I know that Sony would make good games regardless, but without Microsoft and Nintendo breathing down their necks, I doubt that the quality of games would be as good as it is. Edit: Well, I'm finally back, so I can add more to this post. I think that Reaper of Souls raised a good point. If there was no competition would consoles that failed like the Atari Jaguar, or the 3DO, etc. have failed? Well, I think that the game quality of those two consoles more than anything had to do with their failures. Of course, competition can be a curse to the less talented companies. The companies that might not make games or consoles that are as good as the competition will get buried. I think that this leads to another problem that I have with gaming and that is people sticking with the same publishers and refusing to play something a little new. I admit that I am a die-hard Nintendo fan, but I love the work of many developers in the industry (Konami, Neversoft, Capcom, Sega, Sony, EA, etc.). Sometimes, when the competition dies down a little, people get comfortable with the same types of games and they just keep buying. On a sort of related note, that's why I personally got a little tired of Rare and their constant rehashing of their platform style (Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and Donkey Kong 64 were basically of the same mold, although BK and BT were better). But that's just the way I feel.

Really, I think that most of DKC's popularity came from it's advanced graphics which really did look good back then. People were so enamored with the graphics of DKC that they overlooked the shallow gameplay. However, I do admit that I did laugh out loud a few times while playing DKC. And I also admit that I was one of the people who loved it because of the graphics. Come on, I was nine years old at the time. What do you expect? Edit: You know what, I'll admit that I enjoyed DKC 2, because it at least improved on the gameplay and the bosses were way more fun to beat than DKC's lame bosses. But I still don't like DKC 1 and 3. DKC's gameplayed stumbled and DKC 3 was a step backwards for the series.

Anime Cartoon Network Line-Ups...and anime on television announcements

I know that Futurama is still on Fox, but after this season, it's done for (unless someone has hopefully heard otherwise, but from what I've read, this is Futurama's final season). -
Well, technically I was a part of this. My mom was driving her car home while she was about six months pregnant with me. Some guy who had stolen a car barreled out of nowhere and crashed into my mom's car. Luckily, my mom survived, and I also survived (duh, or else I wouldn't be writing this lol). The worst part is that my mom couldn't press charges or anything since the guy stole the car from some other family or some other BS.

Personally, Reign really needs to go and maybe Lupin, but I just don't see it happening for now. Cowboy Bebop did need to be retired for a while (doesn't really effect me because I've seen every episode and have them all on tape), but Trigun didn't need to go. And what's up with bashing Family Guy? Family Guy is very funny and the satirical elements of the show are brilliant. Fox really dropped the ball when they cancelled Family Guy (not to mention when they also cancelled Futurama). -
Personally, F-Zero GX is the game that I'm really looking forward to right now, even more than Soul Calibur 2. This game is looking incredible and if it can improve on the tight controls and amazing tracks of F-Zero X, then it will truly be an amzing experience. I really sound like a dork describing this game, don't I? Oh well, can't be helped. DKC 2 was a lot better than DKC, but I still don't think that the entire DKC series really holds up as well as the other games that Nintendo is updating for the Game Boy Advance. The gameplay is just far too simple and repetitive.

My biggest regret is getting into the 7th grade Honors classes, because I hated just about every teacher I had and I was miserable all year long. That was the time that I really hated school with a passion.

Weezer's an okay band, but I haven't listened to any of their music for a while. Maybe I need to do what you did and rummage through my music lol. Anyway, they sound pretty good, Rivers is a good singer, and their songs are nice. They're not one of my favorite bands, but I really can't find much to hate about them.
Originally posted by PiroMunkie ... Tell me exactly why those are "crazy" again? Lol. It seems like a normal show to me.
Hey, lay off. I haven't been to a concert in a while lol. Not that is strange. Those security guards must have been paid off pretty well if they were just ignoring that.

I would donate my extreme love of video games, because everyone could use a good game to have fun with every now and then.

Although I didn't get to go to the KROQ Weenie Roast on Saturday, I did hear about some strange things that happened there. Wanna know some of the strange things that happened? There were: A man who jumped on stage while the Foo Fighters were playing, banged on the cymbals for a few seconds, then crowd surfed away while being chased by security. People ODing on alcohol and being carted off on stretchers. A crazy Raiders fan yelling "You suck, Bean!" for three hours straight. Old people (shivers) fondling each other. And, lastly, a man telling his girlfriend that he realized that he loved her because he was kissing another woman! Well, that's all that I heard about. I'm sure that other people have equally crazy (probably even crazier) stories of the strange things that they see happening at concerts that they go to (although, the second one doesn't seem to be so strange nowadays). How about it, people? Any stories you want to tell from concerts you've been too?

Well, I'm none too happy about
San Antonio winning
, but at least they can celebrate without rioting (which, unfortunately, I can't say about Los Angeles).

I just got back from playing a Viewtiful Joe demo at Best Buy, so here's my opinion on the game. It's pretty good. The graphics look great it motion; they're crisp and very fluid. The fighting sometimes gets a little repetitive until you learn the nuances of the fighting and start stringing together crazy combos against multiple bad guys. That's when the game gets fun.

Well, the KROQ Weenie Roast happened yesterday, but unfortunately, I couldn't get tickets. But that's the summer festival that I look forward to.

Yeah, I would've been angry, but Giguerre was really amazing through the first three rounds of the playoffs. Nobody even came close to him.
-
I just saw Soul Calibur 2 in motion for the first time on X-Play last night (yes, I am very behind in video game news) and it looks fantastic! The graphics are every bit as amazing as they were when Soul Calibur came out and the motion of the characters is very fluid.

I twitch when I'm nervous. I was supposed to be doing a debate for my English/U.S. History final, and I was twitching like crazy. Needless to say, I looked pretty silly in front of everyone.

Nobody has mentioned this so far, but I got kind of mad when the New Jersey fans booed J.S. Giguerre (is that how you spell his name?) when he went up to recieve the Conn Smythe Award (I think that's what it was called). I mean, they just won the Stanley Cup, couldn't they have shown a little class and given him a round of applause? At least the Devils showed him some respect and clapped for him. Oh, and I'm not attacking the people of New Jersey, just those fans who booed Giguerre. I want to make that very clear.

I think that's pretty much it right there. The perfect villain must know exactly the sort of evil that he/she is committing and have absolutely no qualms about how they go about it. They can even enjoy it if the situation calls for it.
