So, I picked up Vol. 3 the other day (and, predictably, my first paycheck of the school year arrived mere hours afterward, which means I could've bought the special edition off Amazon had I waited, like, another five hours :|). The dub continues to be really good. Wendee Lee has especially grown on me as Haruhi. She still sounds sort of weird in normal conversation, but she's awesome when Haruhi is annoyed or really pompous. Her rendition of Haruhi's "Bow the **** down" laugh she does in "Remote Island Syndrome Part 2" after Haruhi and Kyon solve the mystery had me rolling. Crispin Freeman is really good, too. He's not quite as sarcastic as Tomokazu Sugita, but he's great at shifting between Kyon's speaking lines and the lines where he's thinking to himself. In particular, I enjoy his parts when Kyon is in Lala Land thinking about Mikuru lol. Lastly, I greatly enjoyed how butler-ish Arakawa sounds. I approve.
Wow, I'm giddy. So much sexual tension in episode 3. And the preview for episode 4 shows Ikuto
biting Amu's ear!
:animeblus
Haha, the creators must have a direct line into your mind or something. :animesmil I, too, enjoyed Nadeshiko and Tadase's Chara-changes. Tadase's "Yeah, I'm the King, *******" laugh is especially great. And, yeah, I'm at the point now where I'm finding Amu too adorable for words, which is rather disconcerting considering she's in elementary school. :p

Writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Shinmaru replied to Lady Asphyxia's topic in Creative Works
I thought the timing of the announcement was sort of strange, but in a way it's kind of nice that JK isn't really making a huge deal of this. It's like, "Dumbledore was an awesome wizard, and, oh, he's gay btw" rather than, "DUMBLEDORE IS GAY READ MY BOOK." And, yeah, like Sandy I always imagined Dumbledore as an old man even when reading flashbacks about his younger days, haha. I don't think I could ever imagine him in a sexual relationship with anybody, man or woman lol. It's too strange. -
Ladies and Gentlemen, Image Battle Royale!

I don't have an image, but I just want to say the picture Des chose is perfect for that caption. :animesmil -
I bet those guys could even make Shinmaru popular. :o
NADS NADS NADS In that episode, I also liked Nozomu's reaction to the people taking photos of cosplayers and his theory on storytelling in manga (DARKNESS).

Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
Shinmaru replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
Well, at the very least, Jiraiya appears as though he's ready to **** some **** up. :) -
I didn't think it was bad at all. Ryuk's voice is pretty good. He sounds serious, but there's also room for a nice, mocking tone. I also enjoy his laugh. It's like a grizzled criminal who's having a good laugh before he cuts your throat. My enjoyment of Light's voice is more inconsistent. At times it was good, but at other times it was almost like it was too insane too quickly. I mean, Light's a ****ing nutjob and all, but he's not a full-blown sociopath just yet. ...okay, maybe he is. XD But, yeah, it's a bit over-the-top for me right now, which is probably a weird complaint about Death Note considering its many big, epic scenes (
Mikami's first writing sequence, anyone? Haha. Pretty colors are fun.
).

Been watching this from the beginning, but I haven't posted until now because waiting so long for each new sub to come out is really discouraging. So, anyway, I just watched episode 8. More funny stuff, as expected. The
Psycho
reference is utterly glorious (and more than a bit creepy, actually) and all the funnier because it comes completely out of nowhere. I was rolling all through it. Also enjoyable was Nozomu launching into his usual dramatics after Kafuka hauls in the suitcase full of money to the police headquarters. "...what were you here for again?" Haha. Also, damn, who knew Chie was so stacked?? (Or maybe I just forgot she was because the gap between episode releases is so long. XD)

I'm not a violent person, but every time I see West onscreen, I want to stab the holy **** out of him. Anyway, the season has been okay so far. Claire's storyline is terrible. I don't mind Claire at all, but as mentioned a couple of sentences prior, it will not be long until I bring the wrath of Achilles on West. Such a creepy little douchebag. Peter's storyline has been boring. I wasn't wild about the whole amnesia thing when the season started, and I'm not totally into Peter's new Irish buddies or his nice little box (and the God awful promo that went along with the box the night it was introduced). Peter's best moments have come when he's been able to show off his powers. The Mohinder/Matt story isn't bad, but they haven't done much at all. Obviously it's going to pick up a lot soon, though, and it's still funny to imagine them arguing every evening after putting Molly to bed. Haha. Best parents ever. :P Hiro's story is a lot of fun (his poses when he was fighting the guys who were looking for Kensei had me dying). Hopefully it won't get too repetitive. Los Wonder Twins I don't really have an opinion about. Throwing
Sylar
into the mix is interesting though. Lastly: I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the 619. That was some pretty goofy ****, and I like pro wrestling lol.

Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
Shinmaru replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
Yeah, that makes sense I suppose. Forgot that certain ninja would have advantages against each other depending on the situation and what their skills are (like the whole Jiraiya/Orochimaru/Itachi conversation from earlier in the thread). -
Hm, I wasn't going to watch this, but I had some free time yesterday and was bored... and, hey, I enjoyed it. I don't really know why I'm surprised since I don't exactly have reservations about watching cutesy shoujo series (although I was kind of thanking God afterward that the fairy didn't appear until the last third of the episode, haha). Can't say I'd go gay for any of the guys, though; sorry, still kinda straight over here! :P Anyway, I'll be keeping up with this.

Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
Shinmaru replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
I'm going to have to go ahead and agree with everyone, unfortunately. I thought the Pein/Jiraiya battle had the potential to not only show Pein as a threat but also make him into a more interesting villain. Well, er... hasn't really happened yet. There's still time, obviously, but as Gavin wrote, a LOT of Pein's mystique has been destroyed. Like you guys, I'm also wondering why the hell Pein is serving under Tobi if the Rin'negan is the most feared eye jutsu ever or whatever. I don't like jumping on the hate bandwagon, but this has been pretty lame so far. Pretty ... lame. [/Larry David] -
My sister started college this year. Jesus **** I am old.

I considered making a Dexter thread after I watched the first season during the summer, but eh, I'm lazy. Glad someone did the work for me. Anyway, I love this show. Dexter is a great character, and Michael C. Hall brings him to life like few others could. He was especially brilliant during Dexter's more intimate moments with Rita; I was torn between pity and neverending laughter at Dexter's reaction to
Rita going down on him.
So wonderful. The side characters are all great as well. My favorite is probably Doakes. Not only is he a badass but he also has a strong sense of honor that makes him so much more than the typical brutal cop character. He developed so well as the season went on. So, yeah, I'm really looking forward to this season. I'm at work right now, and thus unable to watch the season premiere, which makes me a very sad man. I'll catch up tomorrow, I suppose. :( P.S. I finished Darkly Dreaming Dexter the other day. It's not bad, and Dexter is still a great character, but the TV show is a LOT better than the book. The characters are vastly underdeveloped in comparison; also, the big reveal (
that the serial killer is Dexter's brother
) is rushed and isn't done as well as it is in the show. EDIT: Season premiere was good. It's going to be interesting watching Dexter juggle so many pressures in his life with Doakes on his ***, Deb going after Dexter hard (and not knowing it), and problems with Rita. I think my favorite part of the episode was the half jokey/half sinister moment where
Dexter thinks, "I can think of easier ways to deal with it" when Doakes asks Dexter if he'll report Doakes for harrassment. That really makes me wonder whether Dexter will be forced to bend (or even break) Harry's Code in order to survive this season.
Haha, I only participated in four games, and I was 20th. I ****ing rule. Maybe I'll actually try harder next time. :P

The Harem of Celebrity Lust [image heavy] v2
Shinmaru replied to eleanor's topic in General Discussion
I've been way too busy lately. Twenty posts in and I'm just now getting to this?? Ugh. Anyway. First off, a link to the first Harem of Celebrity Lust. That thread was good times - have fun revisiting it! I know I did. :P Also, I am backing up the Scarlett Johansson, Naomi Watts and Aya Hirano admirers. -
Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
Shinmaru replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
I thought it was funny when Sasuke was all, "GTFO >:O *Chidori*" to Naruto when Naruto's shadow clone showed up and had, like, half a second to communicate its intense admiration of Sasuke. Anyway, I agree with Gavin that Konan was the female shinobi on Minato's team and that there is a distinct possibility Pein was the other male shinobi on the team. Pein and Konan's partnership would make sense if that were the case, at least. And, yeah, I immediately noticed the similarity to Deidara, as well, Kei, haha. I wouldn't be surprised if Pein could mimic Deidara's abilities, but I doubt that's all he has to him. Gavin's suggestion is a solid one, especially if Pein's rain can not only spot intruders but also sense their chakra alignment. I guess we'll see sooner or later. :P About Tobi's musings... I would guess they're more symoblic than anything literal. Tobi probably holds the qualities of the hawk (Uchiha clan?) in higher regard than those of the snake (Orochimaru?). EDIT: Yeah, Raiyuu is correct. The hawk/snake metaphor was first brought up by Sasuke. If it's in reference to Sasuke's development and whether he relies more on his power or Orochimaru's power, then it makes sense. -
It's official: Smash Bros. Brawl supports online play!! Obviously a bit disappointing to hear that the lag couldn't be worked out, but with a game like Smash Bros. Brawl it isn't really a surprise. Still, the most important thing is now we can have OB Smash Bros. Brawl tournaments! Yay! I'll have fun being on the lower tier here. :P

Are you ready for some (American) Football?
Shinmaru replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Noosphere
It was hilarious hearing about the Bengals/Browns game. 51-45? Ha. Won't laugh at the Bengals too much, though, because I like Carson Palmer. Also, yeah, the Chargers/Patriots game... the [strike]Cheaters[/strike] Patriots look scary good this season. Other than that, I don't have much to add, since I'm only a casual fan of the NFL. I was too busy working to watch much football today, anyway. :( -
Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
Shinmaru replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
Well, the thing about the Mangekyo Sharingan is that it doesn't look the same for different people. But, yeah, I'm guessing that it's just a regular Sharingan and it just looks weird because the drawing is relatively small (although I haven't seen a high quality version of it yet). -
Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
Shinmaru replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
I'm interested in seeing what Tobi can do, as well, but I'm okay with waiting a bit longer to see it. Pein has been around for forever, so I want to see him fight already, haha. My interest in Konan has diminished a bit, mostly because all we know she can do is turn into origami butterflies (useful for spying, not so much for fighting). Then again, I wouldn't doubt that she'll eventually do some crazy WTF jutsu that will really show why she's an S-class criminal. I have a question about the last panel of Ch. 370: Does Tobi's Sharingan look like the Mangekyo Sharingan to anyone? I thought it was at first, but now I'm not so sure. It's difficult for me to tell. I'm 99% sure he has the Mangekyo Sharingan (otherwise, how the crap would he be powerful enough to boss around Pein and, by proxy, Itachi, or escape from Deidara blowing everything to hell against Sasuke?), but we don't have conclusive proof of that, obviously, haha. Also, I wonder who will win the battle of the "that jutsus": Naruto or Sasuke? ZOMG :O -
Raiyuu: Feudal Japan with refrigerators?
Hey, even back then Japan's technological prowess was far beyond the rest of the world. EDIT: Now to remain on topic. :P 1. Cowboy Bebop 2. Trigun 3. Hellsing 4. Fullmetal Alchemist 5. .hack//Sign (maybe?) I'll probably end up changing one or two of these multiple times before the deadline...

Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
Shinmaru replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
Anyway, I am interested by this whole pod business, though I'm more interested in the fact that Tobi (or Madara?) made an appearance at the end of the chapter.
That was the second Pein I mentioned in my post, actually. Unless Tobi's eye switched places without telling us. :P (At least I hope it's a second Pein, though it'd be hilarious if Pein went down there, got into a pod, closed his eyes for like two seconds, and then woke up again for the hell of it, all so Kishimoto could show us the precious pods.) -
Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
Shinmaru replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
If I'm busy Fridays (which I have been the last couple of weeks, surprisingly enough!), then I use Naruto Manga Returns since it will have updated by the time I'm online. If I'm not busy, however, I use NarutoFan because it's up there earlier. You know, when I first saw all the pods, I was like "OI WTF" but we do know Pein can make clones from other people (it's what he did with Itachi and Kisame all the way back at the beginning of Shippuden, after all), so I guess that's where he keeps all of them, perhaps for regenerative purposes. *shrugs* From what I can tell, there's at least one other Pein clone (the one who opens his eyes at the end), and it doesn't appear as though all the Akatsuki in the tubes are clones of Pein (I'm talking 'bout fatty on the bottom left). Then again, maybe they could all be Pein clones of different body types? Hell if I know. I'm just admiring how bonkers the story is now.
