I agree that GTA was overrated, i dont like when you can get cheats for the games since it needs to have a challenge. Half the people I know who played it just went online, got the cheats and beat the game. What fun is that?
I'm not exactly the biggest supporter of Grand Theft Auto (in fact, quite honestly, I'm not really a fan of the series at all), but saying that a game is overrated because you can use cheats with it seems sort of silly to me lol. I'd be willing to bet that you could use cheats on more than half of the games that have been released on consoles...probably more. Are all those games overrated, too? I'm sure that you have other reasons for thinking that GTA is overrated, so I don't think you'd want that as the basis of your argument, heh.

I could've sworn that I'd seen a thread on this game a while ago, but a quick search of the forums proved me wrong. Oh well lol. Anyway, I picked this game up a couple of days ago for the nice price of $20 (XBox version, by the way). I'd been looking forward to buying the game for a while now, because it was so critically acclaimed and a few friends whose opinions I trust when it comes to gaming liked it quite a bit. Unfortunately, I had to place it on the backburner for a while due to lack of money and other games that I just wanted more. I assume that this was the case for many other people, as well, because it sold like crap if memory serves right lol. I started the game up this morning, and it's been fun so far. Right now, I'm on the first mission of the game where
picture of the Pterolimax couple.
Not very far, I know, but whatever lol. One of the game's strong points is supposed to be the different genres it incorporates into the game, and even at this early stage, I've experienced some of that. Thus far, the fighting is nice and smooth, and the camera is managable. The hovercraft is likewise easy to control, and blasting some of the enemies is pretty fun, as well. I assume that when I get to the more stealthy sections of the game that they'll be just as fun, heh. I know a couple of other people here have played the game. Share your thoughts, opinions, and whatever else on the game. Maybe we can convice a few others to buy it, as well.

I love Calvin because he's so ridiculous, yet at the same time, a lot of his thoughts have so much meaning behind them, whether they're childish or not. For every time Calvin wishes he could buy a flamethrower or lay waste to his school, there are just as many times where he espouses messages friendship, love and such. No matter what he's doing, Calvin is constantly learning something, whether good or bad. I love his fantasies, too. They're so imaginative, and they work so well at drawing you in...whenever I see one of Calvin's fantasies, I'm often reminded of myself, as I'm an avid daydreamer lol. And I'm sure that with the way Calvin is, many other people besides myself see themselves in Calvin. And I've always found it funny how someone so obviously intelligent and thought-provoking could be so horrible in school.

I don't think any one game has surprised me more than Eternal Darkness has. I wasn't expecting the game to be awful, or anything, but I definitely wasn't expecting it to be as amazing and enjoyable as it was. I think a lot of media outlets (especially EGM) really underrated the game, because I thought it was very, very good, possibly my favorite game on the GameCube. The Sanity effects, which I expected to be nothing more than a really fun gimmick, really added something to the gameplay, since they directly affected your character's control and ability to fight. I also got a very good story out of the game, with a ton of well-acted, exciting cutscenes (
I was absolutely floored at the end of Paul Luther's chapter - that cutscene was great
). Add to the equation realistic controls (none of this moving like a tank crap, like in Resident Evil), gameplay that encourages you to beat the holy hell out of every monster, good puzzles, fun levels and some really good atmosphere (even if the characters themselves look a tad cartoonish) and you have an awesome game on your hands. Eternal Darkness was definitely a case of expecting a good game, and getting a great one, instead.

Well, I know that the originality is just dripping off of this thread, but despite that, there's already been another thread made about favorite FF characters, if you can believe that. It's located here, so post there if you want to post about your favorite Final Fantasy character(s). Thread Closed

I picked up Pikmin 2 this morning, and I've been very pleased with it thus far. So far, searching out the 'treasures' has proved more fun and involving than searching out the parts of Captain Olimar's space ship was. Right now, I'm in the Awakening Wood, and I beat the living hell out of the bulbaxes and got the strawberry. I'm about 10% finished with my debt at this point. Everything I enjoyed about the original Pikmin has been bettered and made more fun. The graphics are better, the game is more atmospheric and it's a bit easier to play. The game has definitely been a worthy pickup thus far.
Agreed. Cel-shaded is the best. It is a very special version of animation that reminds me a hell of alot about anime, but i DO agree that it was gay to take out link, i mean he was so damn kool, the whole storyline revolved around him and zelda, so who can it be Legend of Zelda without Zelda? HMM? HOW THE **** CAN IT!
What? I couldn't help but notice that you mentioned that Nintendo 'took out Link' from Wind Waker. Unless you had some sort of lapse of consciousness the entire time you were playing Wind Waker and didn't notice that you were controlling Link, I'm going to take a wild stab and guess that you were talking about the Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask Link. So, why does it matter what Link you play as? Link is Link, whether he's the Ocarina style Link or not. Should we disregard every other Legend of Zelda game, too, just because they don't have the same Link in it? Also...I don't get what you're saying when you say that Zelda isn't in Wind Waker lol. It's made quite clear throughout the game that
Tetra is Zelda. Just like many of the Links are different, the Zeldas throughout the series are also different. There is no one Link, and there is no one Zelda. Period.
I don't really see what you're trying to say with that lol.
my favorite games would have to be the Zelda games, any but the new Windmaker for gamecube... it's got awful animation and not a good plot (besideds Link's gone!:()
I apologize if I'm being too forward with this, but are you blind? lol Wind Waker has some of the best animation I've ever seen in a video game, and it's easily one of the best looking and best animated games on the GameCube. I'm guessing that you're not a fan of the cel shaded graphics, and that's all well and good, but to say that Wind Waker's animation is awful is ludicrous lol. I won't argue about the plot, because that's completely subjective - some people will enjoy it, and some people won't. But, yeah, I don't see how you can argue that Wind Waker has bad animation.

September 7th - 9:25 AM Principal Okari had launched into one of his famous lectures, but Jessica was not paying attention to him at the moment. She was too busy looking out the window, her hand placed firmly under her chin, a dreamy look in her eyes. She was terribly bored. Though Jessica loved letting her more villainous side out more often than not, she found that learning about the intricacies of villany was not among her favorite things in the world. She sighed wistfully, giving in completely to whatever random daydream had chosen to coast her through this class. "Ms. Hikari," Principal Okari said. "Am I boring you?" Jessica immediately snapped out of her trance. If there was anything that she knew, it was that you didn't antagonize Prinicpal Okari. She'd learned that lesson the hard way during her Freshman year. "No, sir," Jessica said, a bit too cautiously. "I'm just a bit tired, is all." "You're tired, eh?" Principal Okari sneered. "Perhaps it would be better if you got your sleep at home, rather than at school, I think." "Yes, sir," Jessica said. She was in no mood to argue at the moment. She took out a mechanical pencil and some paper, and began to scribble random notes from Prinicpal Okari's lecture. She tried as hard as she could to pay attention to what he was saying, but Principal Okari was, for a lack of a better word, boring. The other students conversing all her around her were not much more interesting, but Jessica was not complaining. She continued to pretend taking notes while listening in on other students whispering and muttering to each other. They were, of course, speaking of all the things teenagers normally speak of: Relationships, problems at home, who the cutest teacher was and the party that would be taking place on Friday. It was not long before Jessica grew completely bored of the repetitive conversation happening around her. Jessica stole a look at her watch. To her horror, only five minutes had passed - she still had a whole hour and twenty minutes left to stew in this classroom! Jessica decided that if she were going to be stuck in here, then she might as well make use of her time and get some work done. Muttering and grumbling to herself, which she was sure was attracting strange looks from the other students, Jessica set back to work on her Villain Ethics notes.

Discuss Anime Stereotype High School Underground [PG-VSL]
Shinmaru replied to Solo Tremaine's topic in Theater
I want to post in a bit, but I have a question I'd like to have answered first, if you don't mind. According to the schedule, there's another Villain Ethics class right after the first one. I'm wondering if those who have Villain Ethics on their schedule are required to attend both classes, or just one of them. Might be a silly question, but oh well lol. As soon as that's answered, I'll get right back to posting :) EDIT: Ah, I see. Thanks for clearing that up for me ^_^ -
Baten Kaitos
*smacks forehead* I have no idea why, but I keep completely forgetting about Baten Kaitos lol. I always feel stupid after someone reminds me of it, especially since I've been looking forward to the game for a while now. I'm hoping I'll have just enough money to be able to pick up that, as well. It's nice to see that the GameCube is finally going to have a decent stock of RPGs. Skies of Arcadia: Legends, Tales of Symphonia, Crystal Chronicles, Paper Mario 2, Baten Kaitos...that's a pretty formidable lineup there, heh (provided Paper Mario 2 and Baten Kaitos both live up to their potential, which I think they will).

Could be interesting. I never got into F-Zero on the SNES or Maximum Velocity on the GBA, though I liked F-Zero X and F-Zero GX quite a bit. If the game ends up being more similar to the SNES/GBA games, then I think I'll be a bit disappointed. Of course, that's assuming I'll even buy the game lol. I do admit that the course editor has piqued my interest a bit. Could turn out really well if it's executed properly.

I've played a lot of video games, and it's hard to choose my outright favorite game, just because there have been so many amazing games released over the years, with tons more on the way. With that in mind, though, I have a game that I generally name as my favorite game of all time; it's stayed in that position since it was first released in 1992, as a matter of fact. That game is The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. To me, this game is a perfect representation of what makes the Legend of Zelda franchise so great: Link to the Past has my favorite dungeons, the best bosses, the most consistent difficulty, and the best gameplay. The Light World serves as a good primer to get you set into the game, as the difficulty gradually rises with each dungeon you go through. Link to the Past's dungeons don't needlessly overwhelm you like so many other games try to do. The difficulty curve is one of the better ones I've seen in gaming. The bosses can get plenty difficult, though, if you don't think that the game's dungeons are hard enough. Link to the Past's bosses are what I think that video game bosses should be: Big, intimidating and hard. The bosses require fast reflexes and faster thinking to beat, and the best strategies for beating each boss always make perfect sense. I also like the wide variety of weaponry that you get in the game. There's tons of different items to use, and like in other Zelda games, they're not just tools to mindlessly beat the enemies of the games with; they're used very well within the puzzles of each dungeon. This is the one area that I feel that every Zelda has gotten right. There are plenty more reasons why I love Link to the Past so much, but the reasons I outlined above are the big ones. I just feel that Link to the Past did so many things better than any game before it, and any game since. Other games that are close to Link to the Past, for me, include Super Metroid, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Eternal Darkness, Star Fox 64, Perfect Dark and Super Mario 64.

I started playing Chrono Trigger a few days ago, and I'm just about at the end of the game. I've done pretty much everything that you can do through your first run in the game -
I'm going to head to the Black Omen, which is the last sidequest I need to finish off. After that, I'll be fighting Lavos and I'll enjoy whatever ending I end up getting lol.
Anyway, I like the game quite a bit, and of the games I've played that Square made for the Super Nintendo, it's my favorite (I've still yet to play Final Fantasy IV and Secret of Mana, for those who care). The storyline is good, the characters are decent enough, the battle system is good, the music is great. Chrono Trigger is just a good game. Like a lot of Square's games, I think it's a tad overrated, but whatever. I've still enjoyed it quite a bit. I have a couple complaints, though...I'll wait to see if anything in the Black Omen gives me a run for my money, but thus far, none of the bosses or anything has presented an exceptional challenge. A few of them take a while to beat, but there's not as much strategy involved with the fights as I would have liked, outside of deciding which tech attacks you want to use. Also, the game is pretty short for an RPG, but I guess that's understandable, since the extra endings are meant to give the game a lot of replay value. That probably wouldn't have gone over as well if the game were a 30-40 hour epic that you had to replay every time to unlock all the endings. As for my favorite moment...well, it's not
Crono dying
, which seems to be the popular choice; both of my favorite moments involve Magus. My second favorite was
when he tells you his backstory and you realize that he's Janus. That was a genuine 'whoa' moment for me, heh.
I also loved the first time you fight Magus in his castle. The blue flames lighting up, the darkness gradually receding, Magus standing with his back to you, the camera pans slightly, then you battle him and Magus's awesome, awesome theme starts up. That was just a really, really cool moment, for me. If you couldn't tell, Magus is my favorite character lol. Frog is a close second. I liked the whole backstory that connects Frog and Magus. I haven't played enough of Chrono Cross to get a really solid opinion of it. I rented it a couple of years ago, but I didn't get very far into the game, which was unfortunate. I liked what I played, though.

Resident Evil 4 is the game I'm most anticipating, but unfortunately, it's not coming out until after Christmas, which makes me sad :( I'm going to have to wait a while until I can pick it up. After that, Metroid Prime: Echoes has piqued my curiosity. I'm eager to see how Retro Studios has improved upon the build for the original Metroid Prime. The dual worlds concept, while not the most original thing in the world, has the potential to add some more punch to some already stellar gameplay from the original Metroid Prime. I also want to see if the multiplayer is any good, but I'm likely going to stick with the single-player stuff in this game. Paper Mario 2 also has my eye. The game looks very sharp, and if it can improve upon the humor and solid gameplay of the original Paper Mario, I'll be a happy camper. GameCube needs more good RPGs.

I haven't watched much NWA: TNA myself, so my view on it is a bit one-sided. However, I do know that WWE is far and away the #1 wrestling company in America (when it comes to money, anyway), and I don't see that changing any time soon. The two closest competitors to the WWE, NWA: TNA and Ring of Honor, don't really have the available resources to pose any real threat to the WWE. If either of them were to seriously challenge WWE, though, I think it would be Ring of Honor. They actually have a pretty solid relationship with the WWE (some of their top stars, including Brian 'Spanky' Kendrick and Paul London have gone on to wrestle in the WWE; in fact, I also think that someone like CM Punk could do well in the WWE), plus they run their business very well, despite running on a decidely smaller number of mainstay stars, much like NWA: TNA. Some of the more high profile ROH wrestlers, including NWA: TNA wrestlers AJ Styles, Raven and Christopher Daniels, frequently leave the company to wrestle in Japan and other areas. Right now, though, WWE is on top, and barring an amazing surge by either NWA: TNA and/or Ring of Honor, it will stay on top for years to come. Unfortunately, it all comes down to exposure and money. I do think it would be really cool if one or both were able to seriously challenge the WWE, though. Might force WWE to step up the quality of their product a bit in order to keep the money flowing into their pockets.

"Hey, Alucard, you're next," Cucco squawked in a shrill voice. Alucard opened his eyes and snapped to attention. He had been in the waiting hall since early morning, and the long wait had put him to sleep. He turned his head slightly and set his gaze upon Cucco. The small, brash chicken was, as far as Alucard could tell, at least slightly tipsy, and he smelled faintly of rubbing alcohol. Alucard turned his nose into the air with disgust as he looked over at Cucco. "I'm quite certain that you procured your job," Alucard said, with an air of smugness in his voice. "Ya damn right I did!" Cucco yelled proudly. "I had the two of 'em in the palm of my hand, I did! Well, I would have if I had hands, but that's beside the point..." Alucard uncrossed his right leg, which had been resting upon his left knee, and stood up. He gave his clothing a once-over; there were no wrinkles that Alucard could spot and his boots were still polished to a shine. He was the very essence of professionalism. In the meantime, Cucco was still carrying on with his story. "...and I was kind of sort of afraid that the two numbskulls wouldn't give me my job, you know?" Cucco said. "But I said to 'em, I said 'Look here, buddy, I'm the right person for the job, and if I don't get it, there's gonna be hell to pay!' Scared 'em half to death, it did...hey, where are you goin'?!" While Cucco had been rambling incessantly, Alucard took the opportunity to stroll right past him and into the Mario Bros. office. Alucard had no time to deal with the drunken chicken's sophomoric shenanigans. He was a very busy vampire, and he couldn't afford to let anyone distract him from the task at hand. "Ah, welcome-a, Mr. Alucard," Mario said, sitting behind his desk. "Please-a, have a seat--" "Do you know how long I have been waiting out there?!" Alucard spat bitterly. Mario, whose arm had been outstretched towards the seat in front of his desk, stood still with shock. Luigi had walked into the room at the exact moment Alucard had started on his tirade; he quickly decided to walk back into the kitchen. "I...well...uh..." Mario stammered. "I've been here since the crack of dawn waiting!" Alucard yelled. "I was the first person here this morning, as with my myriad of skills I was sure that you would be on bended knee waiting to see me, but imagine my shock to find that I would be last! Me? Last?! It's a complete and utter outrage and I can not, I will not, stand for it!" As soon as Mario was certain that Alucard was done fuming, Mario sat down again. He looked over at the kitchen, saw Luigi hanging out by the door, and beckoned him into the room. Mario shuffled his papers and then spoke to Alucard in the nicest, most diplomatic voice he could muster. "I am-a truly sorry to have-a kept you waiting for-a so long," Mario said smoothly, though still shaking slightly. "It's just that, well, we wanted to keep the best for last, you-a see." "Hm," Alucard said, deep in thought. "You do have a point there. I suppose I didn't look at it that way." "Exactly!" Mario said, relieved that Alucard had bought it, hook, line and sinker. "We just can't-a rush someone of your-a caliber into here right away-a! We have to be careful about what order we see potential candidates for the job, you-a see." "That's good," Alucard said, suddenly very pleased. He took a seat in the chair, and kept his eyes fixated upon Mario. Luigi walked over to Mario, still a tad shaken from Alucard's outburst. Mario looked down upon a few of the papers on his desk and then looked up at Alucard. "I understand that you have a few powers?" Mario asked. "Yes," Alucard said, grinning broadly. "I am a man of many, many talents." "Could-a you turn into a cloud of gas for us?!" Luigi asked, not able to contain his excitement. "...what?" Alucard asked, his grin fading very fast. "Yes-a," Mario said. "We'd like to see you turn into a cloud, please." Alucard frowned. Of all his powers and talents, the ability to turn into a gaseous cloud was far and away his least favorite. Not only did it make him seem like a total wuss in the midst of battle, but it left a very unfavorable smell hanging around afterwards. However, not wanting to disappoint his potential employers before his first day on the job, Alucard obliged them. He closed his eyes and concentrated for a few seconds. His form shifted slightly, and then he faded into a wispy, gray cloud of smoke and floated towards the roof. "Wonderful!" Mario said, clapping. "Very, very good," Luigi added. Alucard sank bank towards his clothing, which had been left on the floor, and shifted himself around before reforming perfectly back into his clothes. He was still a bit annoyed, but pleased that such an amateur trick had pleased the two plumbers so much. "That will be all," Mario said. "You're hired." "Come again?" Alucard asked, very shocked. "I said-a that will be all," Mario repeated. "But don't you want to see my other powers?!" Alucard asked. "My proficiency in battle? My multitudinous spells? My ability to transform into a bat, for god's sakes?!" "We don't-a need those things," Mario noted. "Your ability to turn into a gas cloud will be-a good. It will make it easier to clean-a da pipes." "I...well...of all the..." Alucard seethed for a moment or two, then stood up and left the room. He was glad he had gotten the job, but he was still very ticked off that he had not gotten more chances to show off his amazing talents.
But that doesn't make the actual story bad. It's a problematic functional issue, I think. The actual story itself was pretty cool (I liked it more than pretty much all of the post-VI Final Fantasy games).
Well, yeah, that's why I mentioned that I didn't think the story was bad lol. I pointed that out, because it's an issue that could potentially cause people to miss out on a major part of FFVII's story (like I did the first couple of times I played through it). It makes the story incomplete, and that's why I felt that it deserved mention in here. FFVII's story is by no means bad, but anything that can cause a story to be incomplete is a problem, for me.
-
I've said this before, but I like driving the point home, so to speak. Okay, I don't think Final Fantasy VII has a terrible storyline; far from it, actually. I think it's pretty decent now, and it was actually very good for the time. However what's always annoyed me about FFVII's storyline is how some of the most important aspects of the story are found in such a nonsensical manner. It's just ridiculous, really, and I honestly think that the story wouldn't confuse half as many people if you didn't
have to just stroll back into the Shin-Ra Mansion after 'making Cloud sane again' with Cloud and Tifa just so you can get a flashback about Cloud and Zack that Cloud suddenly remembers! Oh, by the way, if you don't have Tifa in your party, and you scour that mansion looking for stuff you may have missed, you ain't getting that flashback. Ugh.
Right now, no other bit of storyline comes to mind that annoyed me as much as that particular aspect of FFVII's story. I haven't played many RPGs with truly terrible storylines.

Yeah, I'm just with Syk3, I guess. And, uh, apparently we're brothers, too, which breaks new ground on OB, I suppose. Also, OtakuSennen is an unofficial son of ours, while Quad is somehow our daughter. Furthermore, according to Japan, Quad is her sister, and since I'm Japan's 'brother' that means my daughter is also my sister, which also means that my head really ******* hurts right now. I need to lay down.

OOC: I hope it's okay that I went back to the Recruitment thread and added Villain Ethics to Jessica's schedule. I wanted to give her a little more to do for the time being, heh. September 7th - 9:05 AM The walk down the street was short and barely arduous. However, Jessica was feeling more than a bit pained by the time she got to the school. She had not been looking forward to attending classes again in the least. It did not help that Jessica's least favorite class from the year before, Villain Ethics, was her first class of the day. She had no understanding of this class at all. Everything taught in that musty, stuffy building only seemed to contradict everything that had been taught to the class earlier. The entire premise of the class was contradictory within itself! Since when did villains have ethics and a code of honor? Would it not be more to a villain's advantage to be callous, ruthless and unfeeling? When did honor and ethics begin to matter to villains? Of course, all this inner thinking served to show was that, in fact, Jessica had no understanding of this class or the basic teachings of the class whatsoever. Nothing more. Jessica strolled into the school and headed towards the classroom. It was still about five minutes before class started, so Jessica had plenty of time to get to the class. She approached the door and knocked loudly. She knew that she would be admonished harshly if she had knocked lightly and politely upon the door. The door flew open and Jessica stepped back quickly, barely evading the sudden rush. Jessica looked up and her eyes glazed over immediately. Standing before her was Professor Ken Wu-Fan, the youngest and cutest (in Jessica's opinion) professor at Tokyo Academy. Jessica kept the dreamy look in her eyes for a few seconds, before snapping out of it and standing to attention. "Um," Professor Wu-Fan said. "Who are you?" "Me?" Jessica asked. "I...I...I..." "Yes, you," Professor Wu-Fan replied. "My n-name is Jessica Hikari, sir," Jessica gulped. "I'm here for class." "Oh," Professor Wu-Fan said. "Then you'd better head off." "...what was that?" Jessica asked. "Well, I don't have a class until later on this afternoon," Professor Wu-Fan replied. "I assume that you have Villain Ethics right now?" "Yes, sir," Jessica said, blushing furiously and nodding in reply. "The class is over that way," Professor Wu-Fan informed Jessica, pointing her in the right direction. "If you hurry, you can make it just in time." And with that, Professor Wu-Fan closed the door of his classroom. Jessica beat her fist into her forehead over and over and over again, all the while still red as a tomato. "I can't believe I was so stupid!" Jessica snarled at herself. "I let my own stupid feelings get in the way of everything, and now I made myself look like a total idiot in front of Professor Wu-Fan!" The scene then turned gray and everything stopped moving. A giant piece of chalk with a graduation cap on its forehead appeared out of thin air with a small chalkboard. It took out a long stick and pointed it at the chalkboard. "Perhaps some explanation is needed!" the giant piece of chalk said. He then proceeded to draw several ornate diagrams on the chalkboard whilst simultaneously explaining the current situation to the audience, and breaking the fourth wall. "Deep within the cavernous, empty...caverns of her heart, Jessica secretly loved Bishieology more than any other class, and Professor Wu-Fan more than any other teacher. Jessica thought that nobody would be able to understand her own strange obsessions, so she had previously decided to bury all of her feelings within." The giant piece of chalk smacked the stick against the chalkboard and smiled proudly. "And now you know why she blushed!" he yelled. "Yay!" The scene reformed back to color, and Jessica turned tail and ran straight for the Villain Ethics class. She did not pause to slow down for water or to talk to any of the idiots who tried to persuade her into ditching the school for a lark. Jessica dived for the door and made it inside but one second before the bell rang. "You're late," the Villain Ethics teacher spat. "Villains are never late. Back of the class!" Jessica walked dejectedly to the back of the class and took her usual seat, moping all the while. OOC: Wow, this turned out a bit longer than I intended it to be lol.

I agree with what everyone has said here. Personally, I feel that it's best to get some experience in a few RPGs beforehand to get a feel for RPing, but if you feel confident enough in your abilities to start up your own, then there's nothing stopping you, really. I've seen a few people jump in and start their own RPGs right away who were decently successful.
