I pretty much agree with PoisonTongue. To be truly considered a classic film, a movie has to do just about everything well. Plot, characterization, cinematography, editing, direction, etc. Also, to be considered a classic, I think a movie should have the elements that allow it to be considered a great movie not just in the timeframe in which it was released but in just about any moviegoing era. Star Wars was mentioned. Star Wars (the original trilogy) has the elements (exciting plot, great characters, great direction, etc.) that enable the first three movies to be great movies no matter where and when they're seen. I mean, you have to be pretty cold-hearted not to enjoy Star Wars on at least some level. And I also agree that the term "classic" is thrown around way too much nowadays...almost to the point where it's just a watered down description of a film. I hope that we never truly come to the time that the word classic (in the context of films) means absolutely nothing. That would be a very sad time, indeed.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel Vivendi Universal is MASSIVE. I'm sure at some point you've played a game from a related developer.
If they're that massive then I probably have lol. It's just that I'm not very familiar with the name - though, there are plenty of games that I've played where I didn't know the developer -__- EDIT: I haven't played many Vivendi games but I have heard of quite a few of them. Almost all of them, in fact. Shows how much I know :p Source: http://cube.ign.com/articles/457/457955p1.html
Wario Ware New media from this wacky Japanese release. November 04, 2003 - The ultra-zany Game Boy Advance title Wario Ware Inc. has become a handheld favorite due to its twitch fast play mechanics and wide selection of over-the-top micro-games. Now GameCube owners can partake in the out-there fun in an all-new multiplayer enhanced console version. Currently the title is only available in Japan under the name Made in Wario, but all signs point to a 2004 release of the title in America. With that in mind we've captured a slew of revealing new movies that show off the wacky, but all-too-lovable title in motion. In the videos below, readers can view random footage from some of the game's absolutely baffling cut-scenes, which are so psychedelic and weird that one can't help but shake their head to them in pure amazement. In these, the Wario Ware gang, an interesting cast of odd characters, travels by taxi through outer space and to extraterrestrial planets -- for no particular reason. We also have a fine selection of new single- and multiplayer battles full of crazy dance parties and giant Warios, among other things.
Some new stuff on the GCN version of Wario Ware at IGN. Screens, videos, etc. I'm more than a bit excited about the GCN Wario Ware because I'm probably one of the few people who doesn't own the GBA original lol. Just another great game for me to look forward to.

Very interesting stuff. Almost forgot that those were the same line of GameCube chips, heh. Source: http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/killbill/news_6078128.html
Kill Bill game in limbo Remake rights-holder VU Games says its plans to develop a game based on the Tarantino movie are on hold. When VU Games bought the game rights to Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill earlier this year, fans were split. Some relished the idea of being able to hack and slash with their very own Hattori Hanzo katana, others felt the game would be another lame movie-title cash-in a la Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. However, it turns all the controversy was for naught, since VU Games has shelved development of the title. "While Vivendi Universal Games holds the interactive rights," said a VU spokesperson, "currently there is no game in development." The spokesperson also did not elaborate on whether the title would ever be brought to consoles or PCs. With Kill Bill in development limbo, Reservoir Dogs is the only Tarantino property being adapted into a game, although SCi (The Great Escape, Conflict: Desert Storm), its publisher and developer, has been mum about the project since first announcing it back in March.
So, to those whom were looking forward to a Kill Bill game, this is bad news. Personally, I had not heard too much about the game and am unfamiliar with its developer, so I would not have been able to accurately predict how it would turn out. Most likely, not good, seeing how quickly the interest in a lot of movies dies out.

Heh, it's way different than what everyone else thought it would look like, I'll give them that. The only problem I see with it is the weird looking control pad. Is there supposed to be something rising up that you can press down on or is it completely flat? If it's completely flat, then I think there will be some issues with the control pad, heh. Other than that, it looks like a stylized GBA...except it's apparently a keychain now o_O

This is very good news seeing as I already have a GameCube and couldn't be bothered to buy a new one just for this :p I'm torn between suscribing to Nintendo Power and just registering online. I'm already getting Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and probably Mario and Luigi, so option #2 wouldn't be a problem. However, I haven't suscribed to Nintendo Power in a good, long while and it'd be nice to get this along with 12 issues of Nintendo Power, heh. Either way, I will get this. Someway, somehow...

Ah, funny stuff, PoisonTongue. I have no idea why but Groucho Marx was the last thing I was expecting when I looked at the attachment lol. Anyway, the banner is good. Nice and simple, the picture is of high quality and blends well with the background and the font is plenty nice. Good work :)

I actually find that I have a deeper understanding of this stuff since I'm taking Art History in conjunction with Ceramics. It's all very interesting stuff. Seeing how the artwork of each era intertwined with what was happening with the group of people who made it is very fascinating. Also, I'm getting some really cool background on how the particular works of art that we're learning about are actually made. The actual thought that goes into a lot of this work is absolutely astounding. So, if your school has both Ceramics and Art History, I'd wholeheartedly advise you to take them both. Very interesting classes.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel I can tell you right out that he is insane.
That says it all right there, heh. This stuff is really no different from all the other crazy crap that a lot of people come up with in their spare time. And the explanation always seems to include either "They were gonna put it in the game but they cut it out" or "I know this is true because I know someone who works there." I just think it's funny to read the weird stuff people make up and laugh long and hard at it.

Seriously, this post came out of nowhere lol. I will have fun replying to this hehe.
Originally posted by dark_serena Oh, yeah. The SNES is my third fave console, next to the SP, just because of the graphics. I totally grew up on Nintendo (Chrystalis...), then came the SNES, in which my older brother got for Christmas back in '93. I always watched him play it.
Crystalis was a cool game but I never played it too much, heh. I don't even remember it too much on the NES...I mostly played the Game Boy Color version (which I hear isn't as good as the NES version). I got my SNES in '91, heh. I still remember the day...I was pretty sick and I'd been miserable for about a week. I feel asleep and when I woke up, my dad walked into my room with the SNES and Super Mario World. Needless to say, I felt a bit better ~_^
Chrono Trigger is my ultimate fave. I wasn't too big on RPGs back then, but when I heard my brother in his room playing a game called "Chrono Trigger" that he had rented (this was about '96-'97, when SNES games were still rentable in our town). Of course, I was curious, and since I always played platformers, I didn't know what an RPG was, except for Ultima and Dragon Warrior. Then, later on, I took my allowance and rented CT for about a week. That fateful day, my friends, started everything. I played it for two days straight (a first for me then, but later on, the scenario played again when I played FFIX). CT and FFVII got me into the RPG world at an alarming rate.
I still haven't played Chrono Trigger yet. I feel sad now :( Dragon Warrior I remember, though. It was the first RPG I really played but, seeing as I was really young, I never really beat it, heh. In fact, it took Super Mario RPG to get me into RPGs (and I only played it because it was a Mario game hehe). Final Fantasy VI was what hooked me for good into RPGs.
But there's some more awesome SNES games that I loved playing oh-so-long ago. Most have already been mentioned, but who cares? My most memorable moments when playing SNES (I still play it) was the game's music. So when I think of SNES, I think of SoulBlazer and Super Street Fighter Turbo (strange...whenever Ryu shoots out a Ki blast, it sounds like he's saying "A bull-sh**!").
SoulBlazer was a cool game! Thanks for reminding me of it ^_^ And that Ryu stuff...I'll just leave that alone o_O;;;
Yes, Earthworm Jim is an awesome character and game! I have an Earthworm Jim action figure on my shelf right now...'can't believe they still make those things...
I have the EWJ action figures, as well. EWJ, Peter Puppy (regular and monster version), Psy-Crow and Professor Monkey for a Head. Those figures ruled. Are those figures still really being made?
Right now, I the SNES RPG's I own are: Breath of Fire, Lufia and Lufia II, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Secret of Mana, Paladin's Quest, the Zelda game and SoulBlazer (luv it). Yes. But both Lufia games costed me a bundle. Now all I have to do is get FFII at the pawn shop...
I've only been able to find crappy games at pawn shops >_< The only exception is the Game Boy version of Dr. Mario. Bought that for about a dollar, heh. I had an opportunity to buy Super Metroid for about $15 at a video game rental store and I regretfully passed on it. I feel like an idiot now. And good luck finding FFII at a pawn shop ~_^
My fave platformer is Super Metroid, but since it's my brother's, and he's in college, I can't play it! We've had it since it came out in '94. Me and my brother love the SNES. His fave game is ActRaiser, too. I never got into it. Equinox pissed me off...hard...then there's Super Mario RPG...
Aw, that's too bad. If I had Super Metroid, I'd be playing it everyday hehe. I rented it at least five times but whenever I got close to the ending, my game would always get erased. The store I went to probably got a defective copy, heh. Maybe it's not such a bad thing that I didn't buy it... And ActRaiser is awesome (as I mentioned earlier >_>). Good graphics, fun fights and town building! Plus, you get to play as an angel wearing a diaper. How cool is that?
Earthbound is just simply great. In the ending credits, Ness's dad was labelled as the phone you used a lot in the game! That totally cracked me up.
Poor me and my lack of Earthbound. Why did SNES games have to be so expensive?! Why?!
Wait! Has anyone played Boogerman and The Lost Vikings?? Now those are classics!
You've actually played them? lol I've played a bit of Boogerman (honestly, it only got high scores because of the grossout factor) but The Lost Vikings was a great game. Very, very tricky to play through. I enjoy a good puzzling adventure every once in a while.
And Kirby Super Star? I never stopped playing the Treasure-Hunting adventure.
The Great Cave Offensive was the third best game on Kirby Super Star behind Revenge of the Meta Knight and Milky Way Wishes. It's addicting to just go through the game and try to collect every single treasure. I wish I could tell you that I got everything in the game, but I haven't
Originally posted by James
Anyway, I'd definitely like to see the Koopa Kids make an appearance somewhere. I agree that they aren't used often enough. Can't you just see Ludwig screeching around a Flying Ghost Ship track or something? Hehe. And, I would still like to see Sonic. I thought that'd have been a great inclusion. Although, I'd give up Sonic for the Koopa Kids or any of the regular Koopa characters.

I know I would.
I've loved just about anything and everything the Koopalings have been involved with: SMB 3, Super Mario World, The Adventures of SMB 3, Super Mario World (cartoon), etc. Mario is Missing is the only game of theirs I didn't like, heh. Plus, they're vibrant, wild characters; they fit perfectly into the context of the Mario universe. If Nintendo didn't even consider putting the Koopalings in this game...well...they probably shouldn't leave the punishment up to me ~_^
Nice to know that a lot of people here aren't too uptight :p Come on, I'm 17 (almost 18) and I go trick or treating without a second thought. I just throw on a costume and go out - it's free candy! With the way stores overcharge for candy these days, I'm happy to get some free stuff once in a while :D Also, it's fun to be weird and inventive with your costumes. Last year, I dressed in all black and went out as The Invisible Pedestrian (very dangerous costume - except in my town, where the street lights are on 24/7). This year, I just threw on my dad's old Kings jersey and put my USC cap on sideways and went as John Cena from the WWE. Making up random raps and singing them to the people who were giving me candy was pretty fun, heh. So, yeah, I'm not really ashamed to admit I still go trick or treating. Is it a bit immature? Maybe, but who really cares? Oh yeah, and try to stay away from my neighborhood - nothing but cheap candy and toy cows here o_O;
Originally posted by terra I never liked golden mushrooms very much. Nor do I particularly like Daisy either ... I agree, she's a Peach clone for the brunettes out there.
I hope people aren't forgetting that Princess Daisy was originally from Super Mario Land (she was in the Super Mario Bros. Movie, too - she's famous :p ). She's not technically a Princess Peach clone...but Nintendo's pretty much using her as one, heh. But I agree about the poison mushrooms; those are awesome. Who doesn't love a good Lost Levels reference :D

As long as people take freedom of speech literally, there will always be people taking it too far. And as long as there are people taking freedom of speech too far, there will always be people complaining about it. Do I mind when people take freedom of speech too far? No. To be honest, I could care less. If I don't like what a person is saying, then I'll just ignore them. Simple as that. You don't always have to turn everything into some big issue. There will always be idiots spouting off; learn to deal with it. The biggest problem with freedom of speech is when people start taking what people like Toby Keith say seriously. It's just like Chaos said: Someone could say "Stupid towelheads, we should piss on them and then burn 'em all." That's fine. I don't care because that's not what I believe. End of story.
Whatever happened to the Koopa Kids? Magikoopa? There are quite a few possibilities. Oh well.

Well, I'm not sure if this is spoiling anything or just ranting, but whatever. Anyway, I've been complaining about that for years (as my sister knows very well lol). The Koopalings are some of my favorite characters in the history of Nintendo and I think they would fit in quite well with the rest of the characters in Double Dash. It just annoys me that Nintendo would make these great characters, use them in a few games, then abandon them. Magikoopa rules, too - he'd kick everyone's ***. He's got a wand for God's sakes! Poor Magikoopa...so neglected since appearing in Super Mario RPG :(
I think I'm getting too worked up over this lol.

Yeah, I was gonna rescind what I said earlier about Toad not being in the game but I have computer issues right now, bleh.
Anyway, Toad is a secret character along with Petey Pirahna, King Boo and some character named Toadie (a female Toad, I'd presume).
The original cast of characters presented at the beginning of this thread is still intact. EDIT: I didn't even think of putting spoiler tags around that. D'oh! A bit late now, I suppose, but oh well.
Originally posted by Shroom Shin, going through a military base or cavern in an FPS is like jumping on something's head in a platformer. It used to happen all the time, but it's being slowly phased out. But sometimes, due to lack of ideas, developers throw it in there and refuse to let it die.
Well, when the only FPS's you've played are Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, you don't notice these things too often ~_^ But, yeah, I can see why you're a bit disappointed that they're using caverns and stuff, heh. It's the same feeling I get when I see that a crapload of stuff has to be collected in every level of a platformer or when you just have to kill a ton of people in an action game; it just gets boring after a while.
Originally posted by terra [sighs] All my desire for buying a GameCube just came back with full force. Where is Toad?! He better be in the game (even if I don't buy it) ...
Unfortunately, I've just checked out a complete listing of characters for Double Dash and Toad was not on it. Toad was one of my favorites in the last two Mario Karts but I'm more of a Bowser person, heh. But the exclusion of Toad is certainly a sad thing to hear.
Originally posted by Shroom Heh. So many people min-interperet that rule. It's fine if your showing a person where to get something, just don't go running around plugging the hell out of some random site.
Damn, I'll have to remember that lol. Oh well, I'll get it right next time :p And I'd probably go along with Tony on this. A good DVD player would be a lot cheaper than modding your PS2, heh. Also, certain companies tend to make their games so that they can't be played on modified PS2s, so modding it isn't the wisest of choices, anyway.

Ah, Christmas...here's my list... Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Viewtiful Joe Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike Beyond Good and Evil Fire Emblem Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 Super Mario Advance 3: Super Mario World 2 ...and last, but not least, a sammich making machine :) I doubt I'll get all of this (or even very much of it) but it's still nice to dream ~_^

I've been very interested in Geist ever since it was announced. The premise is very fresh, especially for an FPS (I know I've seen this sort of thing used in a game before, but the name of the game escapes me right now). The areas that you go through do seem a bit plain and rehashed but, to be honest, that's not what I really look for in an FPS, anyway. Besides, I'm not really known as an FPS veteran, so I haven't run into too many of the FPS cliches before. What I'm hoping is that n-space is able to use the possession ability to its fullest extent while making it easy enough to use. It'd be really disappointing to see something so fresh go to waste by being more of a burden than anything else.

I'm from Southern California; I was born in Downey, but I moved to La Puente about thirteen years ago. La Puente is pretty much your average town. Maybe about 20,000 or so people live here...it's a been a while since I've checked it out. It's a pretty nice place to live, actually. It's not too big and not too small and the weather is really nice (except in summer...I hate summers in California).
