Many of us are experienced in our hobbies of choice -- whether they be movies, anime, video games or what have you -- but the beauty of our vice of choice is that no matter how much we consume, there is always more waiting just beyond the horizon, from the past, present and future. That includes super popular stuff that, for whatever reason, we just never got around to experiencing. This is the thread for airing out those staples of the medium in which everyone but us has partaken. By the way, this stuff kills me in particular because as I've grown older, I've become much less of the type to avoid works that are widely beloved/acclaimed due to hype aversion. I genuinely want to immerse myself in things many people enjoy and feel what they feel when they watched it for the first time. Plus, I'm never pushed into watching anything, anyway; I watch stuff because I genuinely want to watch it. But sometimes, I just inadvertently avoid things even though I'm pretty sure I would enjoy them. (Which is why I went without seeing [b]Citizen Kane[/b] for such a long time.) I hate that. :( I'll just focus on movies here, but I'll probably add other stuff later on ... [b]A Christmas Story[/b]: I have no idea how in the hell I have gone so long without watching this, especially since it's on like 24/7 around the Christmas season. This was going to be the year that I finally saw it, but unfortunate circumstances put a stop to that. And I can't watch it outside of Christmas, because it just feels weird and dirty. [b]It's a Wonderful Life[/b]: Another Christmas flick, this one the ultimate in schmaltzy holiday movies. But I can enjoy schmaltz as long as it is well done, so I doubt I'd have a problem with this. It's even my mom's favorite movie! Alas, I have yet to sit down and watch it. [b]American History X[/b]: There's actually a specific reason for this: I just don't want to be traumatized by the infamous curb stomping scene. Just the thought of it frightens me. [b]Lawrence of Arabia[/b], [b]Gone with the Wind[/b], [b]Dr. Zhivago[/b], et al: I have to [i]really[/i] be in the mood to sit down and watch these long ass epics, especially now that I have less time available to fart around. One day, though. One day. That's enough for now. I can think of many more later. Let's hear from all of you! EDIT: Haha, how in the hell did I post this in the video game forum?! I can't even blame the morning for this. Ah well, whatever, it works anywhere, but if someone could move the thread, that would be nice, too!

lulz [b]Evangelion[/b] talk. The main series is 26 episodes. Only movie connected to that series you need to watch is [b]End of Evangelion[/b], which takes place during the final two episodes of the series. (Because the actual anime, you know, [spoiler]doesn't show what actually happens at the end[/spoiler]. Should that even be put in spoiler tags at this point?) There are new [b]Evangelion[/b] movies being made right now that are altering the original story -- the first ([b]Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone[/b]) is basically the first six episodes of the series with animation that's actually good instead of hilariously cheap. The second movie ([b]Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance[/b]) is where the story starts going in different directions. The third and fourth movies are yet to come. Anyway, still in the middle of the podcast right now. I think Canz is a pretty fun guest so far! EDIT: How do you know I don't already do the anime reviews naked? ;D OMG, the Canz von Hozel theme song, hahaha.

I don't use AIM anymore, but I always enjoyed the angry emote (>:O) because it looked funny. I always use the OMG SHOCK emote (:O) whenever possible.

Finished off [b]Patlabor[/b] recently. I highly encourage everyone to check it out, whether you're into mecha or not. The characters are quite awesome and endearing, and it does funny and serious equally well. A great trip into anime history for me! Speaking of trips into anime history, yesterday I watched [b]Otaku no Video[/b], which is at once a celebration of geekery loosely based on the rise of Gainax, and a satire of otaku culture and the mainstream view of it via a mockumentary that "interviews" various representatives of the otaku subculture. It's very silly and fun. And now I'm finally watching the rest of [b]Golgo 13[/b]. I love Golgo. So far these latest episodes aren't quite as great as the ones in the first half, but Golgo being a nigh-invincible sniper is entertaining no matter what.
