Anime Which rocks the most: Street Fighter or X-men?
AzureWolf replied to foxfire_2008's topic in Otaku Central
I was really impressed with the Street Fighter movies when I was younger. Now I think they are ok, but the one that tops them all is the one that had Akuma in it. Maybe I simply thought the premise was interesting, especially with them hinting that Akuma may be
Ryu's father
. As far as the X-men cartoon goes, it just kept going in circles. There were so many things cool about it, and so many cool characters. But nothing ever resolved: more conflicts, more questions, and never any direction. -
Anime The Official Otaku Boards Top 50 Anime Series: Voting Thread
AzureWolf replied to EVA Unit 100's topic in Otaku Central
It actually made me want to play an ero-game, which is no small feat.
Says the creator of the Yaoi/Yuri thread. :p I don't think I've seen ten animes, nevermind having ten favorites! I do agree with Lunox that FMA won't be topped for quite some time - if at all. FMA was put together so intricately that nothing feels wrong, even if there are almost constrasting elements in the series. While I haven't seen many anime series, FMA was just that freakin' good, haha. Bloodseeker, I think the main aspect of Cowboy Bebop was the "hip, cool" atmosphere and not so much the story. The story was, in fact, not all that great, haha. However, Cowboy Bebop is highly stylish, and if it took itself too seriously and tried too hard on the story, it probably wouldn't feel as "laid-back" as it does. I think the story fillers just add to the charm CB has, even if they stray from the story. In other words, I think CB's strong point is the atmosphere, not the story. -
All fighting games except for Namco's have very bad endings. It's actually more appropriate to say they have no endings. It's only in the sequel do you find out what really happens. I thought Ninja Gaiden's ending (the XBox one) was pretty tame. Yes, everything had closure to it, but I think they should have mentioned
him venturing to America
so as to link the game to the NES trilogy. Metal Gear Solid 2 was just too mushy and philosophical to me. They were all going on about what's really important in this life and stuff. It just made me gag, haha.

Anime A few things that have always bothered me... (unrealistic views)
AzureWolf replied to Bloodseeker's topic in Otaku Central
Well, here's the first problem: Xenogears isn't an anime. It's a video game. In addition, you are using a company whose "cheesy-ness factor" was at an all-time high during the PSX era. FF7, FF8, and Xenogears all had extremely cheesy storylines. Why is it important to make a distinction between anime and video games? Animes must have a good storyline to be considered good, while games must have good gameplay to be considered good. The primary target of the two mediums are different. As for your guy and the gun idea, I imagine that the cop is dead since his gun didn't go off. Does it even matter if the dad blames some dead guy? What is the relevance to which dead person some schmo blames the death of his son on? I'm not really understanding why this is important. Perhaps if you actually mention the anime in which something like this happened so I can get a better grasp of what you are trying to say? And wars are not just an attempt for power/land/whatever. You mentioned the Civil War. Realize that the United States, already one nation, had no land or greater power to be gained from this battle. It was an internal struggle, and I fail to see the logic in saying that they were trying to influence themselves, as that's what a nation is supposed to do - war or not. As far as anime goes, if the show is centered around a person, of course they aren't going to focus on "the big picture" of war and focus on the main character's reasons (if any) for being part of the war. Grave of the Fireflies is the best example, as you have someone who is in the middle of this huge war, but his main concern is not the victory of Japan. When you mention shy couples, what anime are you talking about? It would really be helpful if you supported all your points with examples. Here's the biggest problem I'm seeing with all these complaints: they aren't exclusive to anime. You yourself started out with citing a video game. There are millions upon millions of movies and... "real-people" shows that have these problems. Saving Private Ryan wasn't about the war, it was about one guy. Scheindler's List wasn't about the war, it was about the concentration camps. In both those examples, they are taking a piece of the war and expounding on it, giving the audience a truer experience than some textbook with "the big picture" could. If you were in a war, you wouldn't be seeing the big, mindless picture that this war is about: it would be more on the scale of an individual, which you are. Blaming other people? Any teen angst drama will show you that. I am, however, in complete agreement with your first paragraph. Convoluted and extremely sophist shows are considered the holy ground of anime. There's no substance, but because there is a false garb of complexity around it, it is praised as something that can't be wrong. However, when you ask a fan to actually elaborate or explain what the hell the anime is talking about, you'll realize how ridiculous some points get. Anime fans need to wake up and realize that some animes just aren't as deep as they make them out to be. Just because you don't understand an anime doesn't make it a richly-complex, philosophical anime. They are convoluted so you don't notice the flaws. Remember, you aren't dumber than some cartoon show in Japan. :p -
So, do people here think sexual preference is discrete, or is there a spectrum (was it Freud who said that)? What I mean is, do you think when one person likes girls, that person only likes girls, or just likes boys significantly less. And then there are bisexuals, who would be in the middle of the spectrum, liking both genders equally. Do you get what I'm asking? O_o Just putting in more things to discuss, heh.

What does it matter where Deathbug's argument is coming from? As long as he provides his opinion with his support, it doesn't matter if there's some pro-business mindset behind him. I'm not saying Deathbug is pro-business or whatever, but even if he was, what does that prove, and what relevance does it have to this thread? Anyway, if we are on the topic of big business, I remember that DuPont was the big bad of the whole ozone dealy. DuPont did intentionally deny the effect their CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) products had on the environment, and they flatly said any effect was minimal at best. Even with all the pressing and apparent problems the CFCs were causing, DuPont would not claim responsibility. It was not until 1986 (1976?), when some scientist discovered the big gaping whole in the ozone above the Arctic that DuPont finally conceded to being an ###. The point of this story isn't a science lesson (although it's quite a cool story - chlorine radicals and everything!), but to point out that if you are aware and willing to accept the big gaping hole in the ozone, you can't say global warming isn't happening. Without the ozone layer, ultraviolet light will be striking down on us, and that's a great deal of energy. Molecules will absorb the energy, break down, and release the excess energy as heat. This is one of the main reasons Mars contains no organic molecules, as its formation is immediately countered with UV. So, I'm with Red: Global Warming isn't a hoax.
-
Even if we were to assume that that Global Warming thing is a huge hoax, isn't the fact that it's getting colder something to worry about just as much? This is absolutely unsupported speculation, but perhaps because the large chunks of ice and other things from the colder regions are spewing into the seas and absorbing heat, they are also absorbing heat from warmer areas merely by convection. You know, like if you have a hot metal (i.e., land where you live) in water of the same temperature (i.e., body of water near you), and then you drop ice as far from the metal as possible, everything will get cooler (except for the ice, heh). Personally, while this winter had snow, it was just out of the blue. It must have been 4-5 years since the last real snowstorm.

drive_monster has a good point: find the source of the problem first. When your computer is off, is the sound there? When your computer is booting but connected to the speakers (i.e., there are no programs running), is the sound there? Or is it only when you enter Windows that the sound starts? Also, check to see if the speakers do this with anything else. If there's a headphone jack on your TV or something, plug it in there and see what happens.

O_o This reminds me of a French movie that was based on a book. Anyway, pick your poison: I wasn't sure if you wanted a different picture, so I stuck with the same one. Then I didn't know if you wanted it to be like one of those "here's the rest" or just the same, so I did both, and each one has two different effects (or effect degrees) to them. EDIT: Whoops! ^^; Sorry about that Ozymandius!
-
Here you go. Since you said you wanted no loss in quality (i.e., disrupt the image), the file size is actually larger than it was originally, haha. It's not that big of a deal, but I thought you'd like to know.

You're quite welcome, boxybrown! ^^ I recently switched to Opera, but I've been having trouble accessing certain myOtaku's. At first I thought it was all the fancy coding done by Baron's myO, but now, Sara's myO is doing the same thing. While it's not a pressing problem since I can just hop onto another web browser, I'm wondering if it's repeatable on other Opera web browsers (and if that's the case, what exactly is the matter).
-
To my surprise, it was actually quite interesting. However, it just sort of ended. O_o It felt like it was going somewhere and then didn't get to the main point. I was sort of disappointed, heh. As far as narrative goes, you've got a knack for that. People tend to get bogged down in the details or not give enough. While there were times you gave a lot of details, they managed to somehow be interesting. And the times you weren't, it didn't "feel wrong" either.

Anime Which Anime or Manga Hero you you like, love, respect,or whatever.
AzureWolf replied to foxfire_2008's topic in Otaku Central
Love: This one is tough, as I haven't really watched any romance animes. I like how Chi from Chobits looks, but that's about it... Yeah, I'm drawing a blank for characters I have any affection for. While I respect certain female characters, the appeal isn't sexual or the "I wanna get with you" kind. Respect: The first person that comes to mind is from Edward Elric from FMA (probably because it was the last anime I saw, haha). In the beginning, I could already click with the guy because I too have a little brother. And while I thought he was cool and everything before, I didn't fully respect Ed until (episode 45? spoiler)
the father returns
, and also (episode 30? spoiler)
when he still fights Scar
. I'd elaborate more, but my explanation is more suited to the FMA thread. I would have said Naruto, but that fight with
the bone dude
was really pathetic and didn't do Naruto or the series justice. I lost a lot of respect for Naruto after watching that fight. Hate: This is too easy. Shinji from Evangelion: he's the biggest moron I've ever seen. I never knew the urge to beat the #### out of someone could be this potent before I saw this character in action (rather, inaction). He's an insult to the male gender, and is even too much of a sissy to be a girl. Adore: Rakka from Haibane Renmei! A very admirable character, and one you can't help but smile when you see her on screen. I dub her with the title of "Adorable." ^^ That's all the feelings I can think of right now. I'll edit or post again if I (or anyone comes up with more). -
Request Now Despriate for Avi and Banner
AzureWolf replied to Sky Moonflow's topic in Creative Works
I actually remember making a Tsukasa avatar for you a long time back (during v6). I'll give this a go tonight, and you'll have the results tomorrow. I did look around for angels with the specifications you had, and I really couldn't find one that fit perfectly (those were kind of nit-picky). Even this one is going to be a long shot, haha. How does just an angel-related banner and avi sound to ya? That's like the best I can promise, heh, although I will try my best to put in particulars you asked for. -
Then again, I'm a guy. I'm on the outside looking in.
ROFL! Am I a bad person for really liking that comment? XD I've always noticed how girls are more willing to conform to things than boys. When you see little kids play, girls are always try to live out ideal lives or some type of drama, but boys always have wacky, far-out adventures with their toys. Think about it: Barbie versus Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Also, I never found Barbie all that attractive. Who can smile that long without having an evil, ulterior motive?! It's just sinister! But in all seriousness, the face is rather creepy.
Fire-I would say is proably the strongest I associate with since in many ways I'm the type to be very passionate about what I believe in Dark-I would say is the next strongest, not because I have a dark personality, but rather I'm not the type to run from it. In many ways I'm not afraid of the darker parts of my self *sorry if that's confusing*
Let it be knowst now that Lore added a ton of entertainment value to this thread - or she just flat out jinxed it. :p Could someone explain to me what each element means? I never really pondered this element thing too much, but that might have stemmed from the fact that I don't know how each element works (personality-wise).

Lalaith Ril is right. This concept really borders on that whole "video games kill people" kind of notion. Also, there aren't really all that many instances of Nazis in anime - and definately not in any animes that are worth anyone's time.
[b']Screw technlogy-- I'd rather live in my tropical Ewok wilderness...
Then what exactly is stopping you? Technology? Other people, maybe? If it really was all that great, then you wouldn't be content enough with how things are now, eh? You'd be struggling to get back to that paradise of yours.
In my opinion, the best 3D fighter out there is easily Virtua Fighter 4. I can see if people dislike it, but I find that people who are the most against it generally understand it the least. Good examples of that exist in this very forum.
Good examples of what exist in this forum? Idiot gamers? I'm not going to disagree with you there...
AzureWolf said something about clearing a browser's cache... that means nothing to me.
*raises brow* By means nothing to you, do you mean you don't understand what I mean, or that it's absolutely irrelevant? What browser are you using? There should be an options section for any browser, and a "clear cache" button should be there (it might be called "delete private data" or "delete temporary files").

Something's fishy with that dialogue you posted, Lunox. Think about it:
there was never a time when Greed was alive and Lust wasn't
, so I'm having trouble figuring when this talk between these two was supposed to have happened. Also,
they speak a little more coherently than the Homunculi normally do
. @VampireSeras No, I didn't cry at that scene. I really didn't see it as a point to cry, haha. Rather, it was like, "OMFG! I can't wait for the next episode!" Also, I didn't find that weird at all. Homunculi lack
both mind and soul
. If you make note of where
the alchemical seals are located
, it becomes a little more clear. I think Gluttony's will give the best explanation, as his is manipulated with later on anyway, haha. @Dagger Yeah, it's 51 or 52, so you were kind of right on both guesses. Some consider the upcoming movie the last episodes, and others don't. So, without the movie, it's 51 episodes, and with the movie, 52.

I was going a little insane listening to audio lectures for hours on end, so I turned on the TV and saw this show on Fox called A Current Affair. They mentioned this incident, but moved on to a more grotesque story about jealously and insanity. Basically, they were talking about how this girl was getting popular, and her new friend from school had "issues." She announced to everyone that she was going to kill the girl, and everyone just took it as a joke. But the same day, she up and killed her, and she enlisted her boyfriend to help with the beatdown, and then enlisted some other kid for the dismembering. O_O I think kids are just more socially irritated what with the increasing amounts of free times they have these days. They have more time to moan over trivialities like social positions. Don't try and pull that BS over me: they don't have things harder - hell, it's been getting easier, and it has been getting easier even before I started going to school. Anyway, what I liked best about the show was how they said "DevianART" is a site for socially-troubled teens or something to that effect. XD
-
Boxybrown, I remember this happened before, and all the person had to do was clear his browser's cache and check again. I hope that works for you as well, or else you have a real problem. O_o
-
OMFG, that was impressive as hell. I remember you posting some of the earlier chapters, and they were hardly as intense. Obviously you have to build up to the climax - I know - but based on the earlier chapters, I didn't expect things to get so dramatic. This is very impressive work. I think the work and sweat you put into the art really shows, and helps with the feeling of intensity. Dramatic art coupled with a dramatic story. Good stuff! ^^
