Not pursuing what you want. I know a lot of people who scoff at others when they go into film school or art school or major in English (haha, very funny >_>) because they say "what are they going to do for a living"? I admire people who stick to their passions through the sweat but in the end fail a million times more than people who follow a job they'll hate just to make a lot of money.
In that case, you will ADORE me. Now, I just need to lure you into my gingerbread house and I will be one happy camper, hehe. O_O Anyway, that sentiment is important in this day and age. In Georgetown, most of my peers were 25, which just blew my mind. But they seemed more... fulfilled. They took time to dabble in other interests and were less... disturbed than the rest of us.

There is no such thing as bad publicity, haha. As far as getting the images removed, it would have been wiser to handle things privately. While I applaud your desire to show the public you have turned a new leaf, I think making legal threats - no matter how politely - only keeps your name in the mud.

Sounds like you are only worried about the pseudo-consequences of getting a bad grade. Whatever happens with your tutor and parents, you'll get through it. Not really a big deal that needs advice. As far as schools go, it's bad, but grades don't get processed until probably middle of next semester, so they won't be on your transcript until then. As far as acceptances go, it's easier to get in to a college if they don't know of a grade, accept you, and then find out (in this case, they usually overlook it). On the other hand, it'll be harder to get in if they see the grade before they make their decision.

@Rach: what do you consider finish? Beating the game through once, or collecting everything there is in a game? I used to play a game until I got absolutely everything. To me, it wasn't finished until then. Nowadays, I'm just happy to have time to finish the game once! Oddly enough, I actually enjoy games more this way. I think the gameplay doesn't tire out this way, and I can always go back to the game enthusiastically if necessary. I have been refraining from buying many games since I noticed they just sit there for up to a year without being touched, and have been trying to beat all my unfinished games before buying a new one. With the exception of .hack, I'm actually done with doing so. AAAAAND, if you wanted to be technical, I did beat all the .hack games I started, but I haven't even started the last one. I don't know if I even want to buy this G.U. Rebirth or whatever version of the games either...

Can someone give me a link to the movie? kthnxbye lol, but in all seriousness, the movie looks like it will do what Naruto needed for a long time: the death of the star character [strike]ala DBZ[/strike] and his subsequent revival [strike]via Snakeway[/strike]. But no one in Naruto has ever found any of the seven dragon balls, so Naruto might really be f###ed for this one.

You know, it could just be peer pressure. What if all the guys are telling all the girls that they wouldn't sleep with anyone who doesn't walk with a cane. When I told everyone that, it had a huge effect - although the opposite from here. Even girls who had medical reasons to use canes stopped using them...
Well, my friends are also ridiculously rich. lol ED wasn't a problem for them, money-wise. But, I have no idea what rolling admissions are.
Rolling admissions just refers to the school reviewing applications as they are received. Very few schools actually wait until their designated deadline to look at all the applicants. So in a rolling admissions setting, you have a better chance the earlier your application goes in, because more spots are open and they haven't seen "your type" of applicant before. Any school that has interviews most likely has rolling admissions. Sucks to hear that you are playing the waiting game though. Not knowing is worst than facing rejection, IMO. But hey, it's not over till it's over!
-
Right now I'm regretting that I didn't do early action/decision to any schools. Three of my friends just got into MIT, another into UPenn, and another into Vanderbilt, and it sucks that I have to sit at home and write another 6 essays.
ED is not as good as you think it is. If you get a no, you screw your chances for schools that have rolling admissions. You made the right call, IMO. No one should do ED, ever. It's just really stupid/dangerous unless schools have been asking you to come to them with promises of full tuition from day one.

They did try giving out the first episode of an anime out for free (in fact, I think you can still find some in Azureus that are hosted from their sponsors). The first US-licensed anime that gave out a free episode downloadable from the official website was some weird fairy anime, where this fairy with MPD changed based on certain events with the human she was with. I don't remember, it was stupid and creepy, but the point is, they are trying that feature out, and they are still selling anime episodes for a dollar a pop for download. As you can guess, profits have been horrible from this scheme. Four reasons

price of a single episode is too high: you get an ethereal copy of a 26-episode anime for $25 bucks, no thank you
the price SCHEME is Japanese, not American
the selection of anime sucks
there is no incentive to grab the download copy. Why blow $26 bucks when the same price can get me a hard copy that has higher quality and bonus features?
The first problem, they assume that the price to distribute (read: almost ZERO) downloadable content is the same as giving hard copies. This is false, as even newspaper companies that offer "pick your poison" subscriptions have noticed that their online members are more valuable, requiring less effort, maintenance, and money. Let's not forget that most companies have deals with UPS, USPS, or FedEx, and these deals do add up (in the case of Netflix, against USPS, but that's besides the point). Second problem is the fact Japanese like to pay for everything they use and nothing more. Internet plans, hourly plans, etc. are perfect examples. They always consider the cost of each individual item and go from there. Us Americans, however, are not so much interested in contemplating opportunity cost. Instead, we like to pay whatever it takes for unlimited, "off your mind, no surprises" type deals. Look at the most popular cell phone plans here and compare them to the ones in Japan. You are given X amount of minutes every month for a set fee, and whether you use them all or not, that's what you are entitled to. In Japan, they pay only for the minutes they used. Selection of anime sucks, yes, but IMO (and just IMO, not based on solid facts), it is because the insane price and price scheme have failed so badly, so it's harder to get animes that would actually be of interest to US customers. As far as incentive goes, this depends entirely on when Anime companies find that sweet spot in pricing and method, are able to compare download value with hard value, and then decide what type of incentive would get anime fans into it. There are of course long-term factors about downloading that are unrelated to anime entirely. For instance, the bandwidth pipe is being tightened, and will be a big hindrance to legal net distribution for years to come. Next, quality vs speed will always be an issue, and whether one type should be given a higher premium. Finally, the upcoming blu-ray and HD war is not going to make things any easier in terms of getting return from anime licensing. I'm all for downloadable content, and having less useless and wasted material lying around the house, but anime or any other entertainment biz has a long way to make the transition. Also, I think it'd just be awesome if they embraced the .iso format already. That'd be so freakin' sweet.
by the way, does anyone else feel that their personal space has been invaded when someone kisses you on the cheek and thinks it's just a casual greeting? I mean ppl you don't know well. it grosses me out when ppl do that... I can understand that it's part of their culture, but I expect them to realize that I don't come from that background myself, so thay should be respectful and it should dawn on them that maybe I don't particularly savor the idea of them planting whatever viruses or bacteria they may be carrying on my face. gross.
Yes, I agree with that sentiment (except the last sentence). I take it as a 50-50 compromise though. Some people do not kiss as a greeting because they are trying to respect your mannerisms, but you tend not to notice those times because it is what is normal to you or what you expect. Other times, I overlook the kiss on the cheek because I know it is just normal to them.

Yeah, Deathknight hit the nail on the head. Those darn Canadians hate the US so much they are imitating frail British celebrities instead of our blonde stupid ones.
These days I download a lot of fansubs - more than I buy, really. Obviously I'm aware that this may hurt the industry, so I feel a bit guilty about it.
I would argue that there's very little industry to hurt in the first place. Anime's been in a steep decline, especially considering the premium and return. It's getting less and less lucrative as we speak. An episode used to cost less than half what Japanese companies demand now, and voice actors are equally tight. Keep in mind that millions of dollars per episode does add up, and it's getting harder and harder to get that return from sales and TV viewings.

OK, you know what?! I'm freakin' sick of this thread. Here is the post that will put both sides at rest: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-940551580328756105 Who are you going to listen to? Some "scientists" you never met, some "online friends" you never met or can trust, OR those imaginary childhood cartoon characters who were always there for you while you were growing up? I mean, sure, for them to come to life and give you solutions to your problems specifically, you'd probably need to be high, but that's besides the point. I don't know about you, but Bugs and Michaelangelo never steered me wrong, so I'm going with their advice. That, and the Ducktales game rocked my socks off.

I do what James does, basically: tell the truth or just omit the parts that I'd rather not say. The only downside to this approach is when someone thinks you implied just what you were trying to avoid saying. "But you said my cooking is great" "No, I only said it was better than last time" I used to lie a great deal when I was in elementary school, playing the good boy and being more sinister than you can imagine, but I turned a new leaf for no particular reason afterwards. As far as I know, I don't lie. Doesn't mean I won't do it if I need to, but yeah...
All who say it should be legal because we shouldn't need to protect people from themselves: Suicide. Why is that illegal?
I didn't know suicide's illegal... what's the (non-Christian) punishment? 10 years in prison? O_o Frankly, making suicide illegal is kinda dumb. We live in a dumb country. That's why I prefer Canada, hehe.
question. can a program turn XP off and make you run in mac mode or some thing? i just tried to download some thing but it told me i need XP or vista, and i have XP if they can do that, how would i turn XP back on?
A program can turn off XP, but there's no such thing as a mac mode. Look at the requirements/prompt more carefully. I bet it requires a specific version of XP. You probably need to update, or there is something like .NET framework you don't have. If you can show the exact wording, and your computer specs (right-click my computer --> click properties), then we can help you.
Eyes. You know what, I love eyes. I'm obsessed with eyes - I love writing about eyes, looking at people's eyes, you know. Eyes mean everything. 'Gate way to the soul' stuff may or may not be true, but your eyes hold the majority of your emotions. You know people can't tell when I'm angry or sarcastic with my sunglasses on, but immediately can with them off? It's the eyes.
Says the person with shades plastered all over her avatar and banner. =P
AzureWolf: Cigarettes must be godlike then.
Huh? Please don't tell me you categorize cigarettes as a drug, especially a medicinal one, which is what the OP was comparing marijuana to. But hey, if you do, all the more power to you, I guess. 60s are back, lol.
-
As does most other drugs out in the world. Children's Tylonal, Excedrin, Claritin. Each drug has both negative and positive impacts.
Actually, results and research have been much more consistent and universal than with marijuana, so I don't see your point. If you're going to make an argument and compare marijuana with thoroughly researched and tested drugs, maybe you should argue about getting marijuana thoroughly tested and researched first. Don't think marijuana is some God-like drug that can skip the steps other drugs have had to exhaustively go through.
-
I think there is just hype over the lack of research, and what little research that has been done on the effects of marijuana smoke have been NOT BAD (doesn't mean same thing as good). This says nothing about the long-term effects, or anything else. Ok, so there has been no research that shows any detrimental effects, but that is not the same as finding consistent, universal benefits either. The drug helps some people, hurts others. It is unpredictable. Being responsible has little to do with legalizing a drug with unpredictable effects. That just makes no logical sense.

*sits back, enjoying his virus-free mac* Did anyone notice that apple's search at their website reveals Windows when you type in virus? Anyway, you could say there are a ton of reasons, but all of them have to do with money. Some sites get money for referral, even if it's a virus-induced pop-up, that gets people money. Same thing with adaware. Information is a powerful thing. A powerful, financial thing, lol.
Love for blood (I'm not sure what to call it, lol. Any help?)
Hemophilia, which is also the name of a genetic disease, so that's why it's probably not listed on the list, lol.

They actually lit the tree tonight, with that Titanic singer I believe. Thankfully, she didn't sing, at least when I got there. For me, NYC, Wintuk, Nutcracker, RadioCity Xmas Spectacular. Basically every free ticket I get I take advantage of, lol.

Is this further development from this thread? It might the case of what happened with SNK, where they were saved and then sunk again anyway, which is why I ask.

Dang it, I fell asleep while resting my head! FYI guys, if you are interested, paypal is doing a crazy 20% back deal at select stores. The limit is $50, but that means anything $250 and over - like a Wii, 360, or iPod Touch - gets you fifty bucks back. https://www.paypal-promo.com/holiday/slider/index.html I managed to snag an 8GB iPod Touch for $294 at Newegg, meaning I'll get $50 bucks back. I'd say that makes the Touch $244 ($44 bucks higher than what I consider acceptable for an mp3 player, but hey, this even beat the iRiver products I love so much) but you are credited on your paypal account for the money, so you have to spend that fifty bucks later. Newegg is no longer running with the deal, though. Sorry I fell asleep people, but still some awesome deals out there. Anyone ever heard of cyber mondays? Some of these offers are crazy, and the Paypal offer does combo in with any sales the store is having by itself.
