I know a lot of people will agree with me when I say I've seen the most wonderful manga artwork/editing done in PaintPixel. I've never tried or seen the program myself. Just from seeing what it can do, though, I'd say whatever its level of difficulty, it's worth mastering. Every program needs time. You have to get adjusted and learn the program, which can't happen overnight. Even Photoshop is fairly simple to get around and figure out how to do what you want after you are comfortable with it.

AzureWolf will not be online for 2-4 weeks (or whatever 10-20 business days amounts to). I am posting on his behalf. Name: Rock & Xia Gender: Male & Female, respectively Age: 19 & 9, respectively Biography: Rock was born to a middle-class family. Since he was the last child of four, he was favored and given the best care. His other siblings always envied him a little bit, but at the same time, cared for him sincerely. Two siblings even passed their interests down to Rock: his brother influenced Rock to learn martial arts, and his sister stressed the violin. The oldest child, Robby, was already in business and did not visit home often enough to make an impact. Still, Robby would never miss a chance to send money: birthdays, holidays, and random anniversaries. And of course, some of his father?s engineering knack rubbed off on Rock. Rock found a high school sweetheart his sophomore year, but his parents found her too "unworthy" for their son. Lucky for them, Rock?s sweetheart soon had to study abroad for two years; unlucky for them, she secretly promised Rock her hand in marriage when she returned. It was early, but Rock was never so sure of anything before. Ambitious and hot-blooded, Rock didn?t care for anything else after hearing his fiancé?s answer. Although a potential musician, Rock signed up for the army when a military recruiter jokingly appended his lecture with "?And it?ll really impress your girl. ;)" Rock didn?t notice anything before or after those words (and the smiley), but it was all he needed to hear. This change of heart created a bit of turmoil at home, but Rock knew how to get his way. His parents were not disappointed with the results, though, as Rock rose in the ranks and became a recognized individual in the army. The V-War needed someone like him, and he was ready to put his training to the test and "impress his girl." One day, Rock?s troop came across one of the secured villages and split up. To Rock?s surprise, he found his high school sweetheart among them! Appearing next to her was a man, their intimacy confirming their relationship. "Allyson?!" Rock was frozen with disbelief. When a little girl came out and asked, "Mommy, why is everyone dying?" Rock?s mind and body completely separated. His last conscious memory was of his beloved approaching him adoringly. Rock finally collected himself when he heard the sound of gunfire, and the next thing he knew, Allyson lay dead on the floor. "Boyscout, I?m sorry, but she was going to kill you!" It was then Rock noticed the knife in her hand? "Hey, we don?t have time for this! We gotta get through these people and aid the rest of the squad ahead!" After looking directly at her body, Rock froze again. He never experienced something like this before. None of the army training scenarios prepared him for such a series of events. "BOYSCOUT, MOVE! SH#T!" His partner started firing at the other "civilians" that were charging forward. The screams were maddening ? just what Rock needed to lift his gun. The husband realized his fate and asked ? in surprisingly clear English, "Spare the child." Rock nodded without hesitation, and fired likewise. The man almost seemed to smile at Rock?s acknowledgement. Regardless, Rock didn?t need the man?s last request to take her in. It was a little girl who still had her innocence ? and more: his first girlfriend?s legacy. Afterwards, there was not much explanation from the military intelligence as to how the village was mistaken for a sanctuary. Worn out, Rock soon left the army and returned home? ?Only to find his entire immediate family dead. Even Robby and Rebecca, who now lived miles away, were lost in some type of tragic accident. The funerals were already taken care of by other relatives, since most of them thought Rock would not return from the war. The military watched out for Rock and landed him a job in Key City. "You?re good with your hands. I?ve seen you work, Boyscout! This job is perfect for you." ----Xia's Story---- Xia?s mother died during childbirth. Her father died about a year after. Xia was then raised by her father?s brother, who died seven months after he took her in. These deaths made other family members fear Xia as some type of black luck. She was given away, and since then, has been passed from family to family, moving after some tragic fate seized her guardian. When Xia was six, Allyson, a distant relative who lost her superstition from Western exposure, refused to believe such nonsense and took Xia in. After a neighbor died from an unmarked mine, the rumors reemerged, and the rest of the community scowled at Allyson?s decision. "She?ll kill us all!" "Her black luck is getting stronger!" "Black will kill us all!" "They say she will turn your closest friends and families against you!" "Now it?s not just you in danger!" Aside from the isolated mine incident and some unfortunate crop developments, a year and a half passed without any real danger. The villagers were still displeased, but lessened their taunting. It was exactly two years after her move-in with Allyson when some soldiers appeared. While soldiers were standard procedure, among them was a black-skinned person. One villager became panic-striken and drew his knife. "It?s the black luck! You will not take us!" He stabbed the officer. Not many of the villagers knew what happened, but they heard the gunfire and saw one of their men down. With that, they prepared to defend themselves? Allyson heard about her friends on the other side of town and became distressed. A man who had a liking for Allyson took this opportunity to "comfort" Allyson. "Allyson?!" Rock appeared at the door. Allyson couldn?t believe it. It couldn?t have been Rock. Why would the musician she loved be here holding a gun? "They say she will turn your closest friends and families against you!" The words of the villagers echoed in her voice, and she prepared to take down the fake. "Mommy, why is everyone dying?" Personality: Although spoiled, Rock wasn?t much trouble to raise. In the army, his nickname was "Boyscout," due to his "by-the-book" nature. He believes in sound being stronger than the written word, most likely due to his expertise with the violin (he surpassed his sister as she was teaching him). In fact, Rock hates to read. He?s an idealist; always dreaming of something wonderful in the future. Xia is quiet. A statement has never left her mouth. Whenever she is forced to speak, it?s always in the form of a question. Although Rock prods her, she always breaks the discussion with some wounding inquiry. "Where is mommy?" Xia is not an angry child. In fact, although reserved, she smiles a lot. Profession: Rock now works as a mechanic in Key City. He?s also known as a mechanic who won?t fix one thing and break another ? truly a rarity (so rare that it?s a super power?! j/k). Xia doesn?t have a job. Physical Description: Picture included

This news hasn't been posted yet? O_o *posts*
Well another year another Anime Expo..........and that means pure hell for anime fansub groups and fansub fans all around the US. Its bad enough that Newtype USA tends to be the the source for all companies to find new shows to license but this is taking the cake. Anyway, all of you US fans who worship dubbed anime in its entirely and don't care for the edits and butcher they do to our favorite shows (The only exception in this is Geneon.........WE LOVE YOUR WORK), here is a list of whats has been licensed as confirmed by their respective groups from Anime Expo 2004: ::UPDATED July 4th, 2004:: ::GENEON:: Shingetsutan TsukiHime Cybuster Submarine 707R Popotan Daichis Samurai Champloo Stellvia of the Universe Hanaukyo Maid Tai -La Verite- Saiyuki Reload Saiyuki Gunlock Tenjou Tenge Shin Getter Robo Rumiko Theater Mermaid Forest TV series Daphne in the Brillant Blue Requiem of Darkness ::BANDAI ENTERTAINMENT:: Scrapped Princess Dandoh Jubei-Chan 2 *unconfirmed* Onegai Twins Mars Daybreaker Karakuri Kiden Hiwou Senki Kenran Butou Sai ::VIZ ENTERTAINMENT:: Project ARMS (2nd Chapter) New Maison Ikkoku Recca no Honno (The Flame of Recca) Inu-Yasha Movies ::FUNIMATION:: Bakuretsu Tenshi (aka: Burst Angel) Gunslinger Girl Tenchi Muyo RYO-OHKI: OAV 3 ::ANIMENATION ENTERTAINMENT:: Jungle wa Itsumo Hale nochi Guu Jungle wa Itsumo Hale nochi Guu DELUXE ::RIGHT STUF INTERNATION:: Live Action Boogypop Phantom & Extras To Heart Boys Be ::MEDIA BLASTER:: Midori no Hibi Otogizoushi ::ADV FILMS:: Nanaka 6/17 Tactics Elfin Lied Gravion Zwei Detective loki Ragnorak erementar gerard Marine Boy Maburaho Hello Kitty Animation Theater Gantz Moeyo Ken Legend of Moby Dick Yumeria Saiyuki Movie Gilgamesh Elfin Lied KURAU Area 88 TV It pains me to see that ADV Films has, as usual, lived up to their name as being the "MICROSOFT OF ANIME" and monopolizing everything thats being made and licensing them before they even finish running. I have nothing bad to say about Geneon cause I support them fully with everything thing they do......the best dubbing company I know (Yeah, every other company and especially ADV is crap up to now). Anyway, this list is going to be updated as the last day of AX is here and we have yet to get other announcements of these turning events (There goes my Bakuretsu Tenshi download). Stay tuned for more late breaking news as more is descovered. (I bet the fanatics and bitches at AnimeonDVD.com are just loving this ****!! Bunch of pompous bastards - just everyone except my only friend who uses that site).
Hideki's information is correct: I checked it with other websites that didn't have it listed as neatly. Haha, c'mon, ADV has its moments, but then again, if a company tries so many times, it's bound to get a few right. Percent-wise, I would say ADV is the worst. I would say it's track record is still better than some others, though. Anyway, I don't think there's anything to add or remove from Hideki's post: it's pretty much accurate. I'm relieved that each group got what they did. I'm especially happy that Tsukihime was acquired by Geneon. As for Scrapped Princess, I feel that Bandai is suited for it: it just seems like their kind of anime, as strange as that sounds. ADV did not get any animes I was interested in, but Funimation has licensed Gunslinger Girl. Now has never been a better time for Funimation to shape up.

Anime Eastern vs Western- The ultimate animated war
AzureWolf replied to PWNED's topic in Otaku Central
Geez, Solo! You said everything I wanted to say! You didn't leave even a single thing out! *checks off list of ideas* (I hate South Park and like those other shows too, haha) I don't think you'll find many that will argue for one or the other. Instead, they are seen simply as two different forms of visual entertainment. As Solo stated (of course):o, there appears to be a preference between form and genre. Cartoons are more on the humorous side of things. I dare say they've mastered comedy, as I've yet to find an anime that can match Bugs or Homer. On the other hand, there are very few cartoons that are as deep and thought-provoking as Haibane Renmei or Tsukihime. While I do prefer anime (like Solo ), it's because I think it looks cooler. That's a shallow reason when you think about it. In fact, I actually started watching anime in order to do something with my siblings - I used to hate it then. That doesn't mean cartoons cannot be cool-looking, though, and they are uncool-looking mostly by choice. Spiderman, Transformers (Solo... :flaming:), or TMNT (it used to be cool!) have more serious genres, so they are cool-looking. Cartoons, though, are mostly intended to be humorous, so of course their characters are going to be less cool and more humorous (cool and humorous are mutually exclusive, btw). That's all. I'm going to go kill Solo now so that there's only one of us :twitch: -
Anime Ending that makes you want to strangle the director
AzureWolf replied to Okita's topic in Otaku Central
I liked the ending to the Evangelion series, but I hated the movies. If anything, they confused me more than the series did. At least with the original episode 26 I could interpret
Shinji breaking free from his fears and paranoia and finally being happy. The End of Evangelion did nothing for me.[/spoiler']
I'm with Solo on this one. However, I thought episode 22 and beyond were very weak. Before then, Evangelion really looked like it was going somewhere. Then it comes to a complete halt. Seriously, they didn't even
kill Shinji off
, the one thing that would have made the series worth watching. They make you so hopeful when they recreate the ending, but it repeats the same mistake. The ending is oh-so crucial to the experience and enjoyment of a series. If you build all these "amazing" mysteries and what-have-you, but just shut it down with a weak and ill-concieved "conclusion," it ruins the whole show. No matter how good all the suspense and build was, if it can't land with a boom and just fizzles, everything was for naught. That's what happens with Evangelion. Also, the ending of the Escaflowne series was unexpected and too far-stretched, IMO. It is a wonderful series from the get-go, but after a certain episode late in the series (when
Van goes AWOL and Dilandu goes AWOL from Van going AWOL
), it tries to introduce concepts and ideas that are unacceptable in the universe that we were first introduced to. I know that the theme of fate and defying it was always there, but
the Fate-Changing machine or whatever it was called
was too out-of-the-ordinary, even for Escaflowne. And then everyone's transforming and it gets all lovey-dovey. It's no surprise that 80% of Escaflowne fans were girls. -
Is it possible to have something where, like a "next page" button on this forum and other websites, you can cycle through your friends' myOtaku's? For some reason, whenever I enter the backroom, it freezes for a moment and then pops up. That tends to get bothersome when I just want to visit people who have updated their myOtaku page. In addition, it'd help because sometimes I miss some friends' updates (whether I just overlooked it or they updated twice in one day), so it'll be an easy way for me to skim through everyone's page. Also, the "updated 48 hours* highlight trick is great, but I'm wondering if it's possible to have a larger gradient. You know, so we can tell which websites have been updated this week, this month, and this year. It'll make it very clear, just by glancing, whether a myO is relatively dead or just moderately active. Last, would it be possible to search myOtaku's for a certain entry? I myself am vague about the idea, but a search function to look through archives would be cool. It could be restricted to people on your friends' list, or just a single myOtaku everytime.

It's an interesting question, but also very (VERY) situational. The conditions are a serious factor. I mean, sure, Alucard is "unstoppable" when
the seal that binds Alucard is explicitly released
, but then that means
a Hellsing, such as Integra, has to be around to do so
. Now, bare in mind that you did say Alucard "from Hellsing," so the
seal on him
is a factor one must consider. I'm not so sure about Vash. He appears highly inexperienced at combat, as legendary as he is. The comparison is almost like a juxtaposition if you consider the experience in years. In addition (another situational problem), Vash would need special weaponry aside from what he has right now to dispose of Alucard. Alucard is
THE first generation vampire
, and as such,
he's acquired immunities to things other vampires would die with by only a small amount
. Now, we don't know how many
immunities
Alucard has, but we do know he has them. Hell, it could be a complete one, and then Vash would clearly lose. But that's assuming
the seal is released
.

Anime Ending that makes you want to strangle the director
AzureWolf replied to Okita's topic in Otaku Central
I thought Grave Of The Fireflies ending wasnt that good. I mean there were
plenty of families that died why single one out. It would have been a lot more uplifting if they would have survived.[/spoiler'] At the end of that movie all i wanted to do was sleep for like 4 days it got me so depressed.
Well, what you have to understand is that the goal (in my eyes) was to capture one family's suffering, and the viewer would be able to extend that to thousands of other families who experienced similar loss. Haha, I'll admit that some of the "subtle" pokes were clearly biased, which made a some of the movie's time just filler/wasted space. But ignoring that... The end was justified. The story was solid, and it wrapped itself together very nicely. When the little girl makes the reference to the fireflies,
it's a reflection
and the movie's title finally makes sense. What happens afterwards is just
the dwindling flame of the brother, and when the girl dies, most of that fire is lost
. Last, it's not supposed to be
uplifting
- at least I didn't think so: simply a historical fiction that makes its mark on the viewer. That's how I felt when I watched the movie, so I would have to disagree that the ending sucked. -

That's too vague. What exactly about Magus are you having trouble with? It's a pretty straight-forward beat-em up, except you have to remember to remove the seeds he drops to reduce the blow from his special attack. -
Well, looking at your sig right now, there's only one problem: that asterisk (*) shouldn't be there. If you remove that, it should work. Otherwise, there's something else you've forgotten to do.

Whoa, a depressing poem that has an actual moral and not a whiney complaint as the theme! Haha, you don't find these too often around here. First off, I love the rhyming: that was very smooth. Although most teachers say otherwise, rhyming is a huge plus in poems: it helps the reader get the hang of the pacing and it makes your poem flow better and more memorable. While it was clear you made some "stretches" at some points to make it rhyme, it didn't hurt the poem at all. In fact, it makes it sound more professional. The "drugs/of" and "row/foe" rhymes were my particular favorites. Your grasp of the english language is amazing: you don't abuse the writer's "literary freedom" at all. Sticking with the "legal" form, you make it work, and it rewards you tenfold. Another question comes to mind: where did you learn such proper grammatical tricks?
-
Ryo_Sagara, it seems a little strange just trying to point out which dub a person thought was better in some random anime. I think it'd be cooler if we talked about "the state of the dubs" instead: you know, what your title implies. There's a lot to talk about with how English dubbing compares to its original counterpart, rather than just stating a simple opinion. In addition, people will make references to certain animes and how their dubbings contrast, so your question will be covered as well. So, is it ok to shift gears and talk about that, instead of comparing two dubbings of one anime?
-
The problem lies with Angelfire, not you. They don't allow direct linking (i.e., what you are trying to do). There are some websites that do allow direct linking, but I don't know what they might be at the moment. Nonetheless, they are out there, so either someone will be kind enough to link you to one or you might be able to find it yourself. Hope that helps.
-
I only read the first part of this story, but so far, it has a very authentic feel to it: the characters behave and talk as they should. When I first began reading, it felt as if you would bog the story down with too much emphasis on details. However, when you continue to read, there's no sign of that. I don't know if it was just me or not, so it's just something to keep in mind. Aside from that, the story is very... controlled: you aren't overambitious, nor do you bore the reader. It's a good balance you have. May I ask how long you've been writing for?

Those books are story-based items (hence them being under "key items"): there's a reason you can't use them, so be patient to find out why. -
Reading the previous replies, it seems to me that many people think a painful life is worse than death, a conclusion drawn from only temporarily experiencing the former. Take a page from your own life: when you were in the most pain you could remember, did you want to die? Now that you are alive and past that point, are you glad you didn't croak? When a person is anything but normal, his choices and decisions are not his. That's the origin of "temporary insanity" and other concepts (such as a cop forcing you to break the law so he can catch you in the act) that put the subject's condition and environment into consideration. So, following the same idea, when someone wants to end their life because they don't want to suffer anymore, that might not be their true/ultimate wish. This point is the reason why AIDS patients are so rigorously kept alive, even though the consequences could be very devastating. I personally disagree with that idea, but the point is that doctors are not "afterlife" specialists, and there is no normal person who is either. So, a fair judgement cannot be made. One thing can be said, though: when things get out of hand for a person, they tend not to be him/herself. Bottomline: NO to physician-assisted suicide.
-
Not to sound boring and off-topic, but Ralph Bunch's historical background (and therefore ethnic bg) is best left to a biography and not to a history book. I remember reading about Herbert Hoover in both: the details were completely different. In a history book, it's always about the impact or significance of the person, not details. In fact, in properly-written history books, only a person's actions are talked about, unless their background or a fact about them explained/influenced their action so you can understand the "why." In a biography, you get all the little details about a person that will impress others at social gatherings.
-
I can't help but feel that most of this post consists of a retelling of the story. It'd be easier to follow if only the "literally significant" parts were kept and all others removed. Aside from that, I feel as if this essay contains too much filler and not enough content. The points you made were strong, but they weren't emphasized enough and diluted in the "story-telling" format of this style. Aside from that part, very cool observations and findings. You point out subtleties and the way you make your claims on Star Wars' literary power is hard to counter, but I guess a consequence of that is a lot of "fluff," if you will. Everything been said and done, I'm neutral on the quality of this work in comparison to your others.

Writing OtakuBoards members doing stupid stuff.

*seesaws hand* Ehh... It's kinda funny, when the sensation of shoving a fork into my ear stops for a moment and the loss of blood makes me feel ecstatic. I think the whole thing would have been fine and dandy if you didn't "personalize" it with real online people and just made your own, anonymous people. In addition, you should really ask a person before you use him/her in some of your writing. Otherwise, the closest you can go without offending anyone is just "hinting" that it's that person. -
I gave it a try. I'm new at animations, so I apologize if the transitions aren't to your liking. Unfortunately, some of the banner had to suffer since, with animations, you are limited to 256-colors. Nonetheless, I think it came out alright. The static version, of course, has more colors. ^_^; Fixes/changes? Just ask.

Someone had the same problem and asked me about it. Since I knew his previous avatar, I could tell if it was changed or not. For some reason, he needed to clear his temporary files out before he could see his new avatar. I'm betting you have the same problem: it's uploaded and there, but you only see the old one because your computer is grabbing it from memory rather than the internet.

Wow, that's just amazing! Haha, I really like it! Very good job! First off, the concept is for us, which should be your target audience since we are the "net generation" and this is an online comic. Already, that grabs my attention. Second, with that idea, you take advantage of the more "inconspicuous" social environment, which, in my opinion, is the highlight of the comic (50 x 0 = 0 very nice! XD). Last, the little distraction of the cats is very nice. It adds a lot more to the comic, and keeps the comic from being plain. Haha, cat and mouse, and boxes. XD Good stuff. ^_^

Aside from scaring the life out of you and the thrill, are there any other positive effects "extreme sports" gives you? I mean, does it help you to relieve stress/relax? Personally, it all sounds suicidal to me. That's probably because of how all those sports are publicized, though. It's rare for people to air successful happenings of such things, but when someone's head is impaled to the floor, you'll be sure to see cameras and newcasters around. I would have to get some kind of 100% assurance that I'll live (something like an immortality potion) before I would do that. But hey, I might get suicidal someday, so you never know. ;)

Well, think of it this way: if everyone introduced themselves, everyone would be equally greeted. Now, if no one introduced themself, you get the same end result. Every new member is the same in the eyes of the other members, so rather than waste time with an introduction, you get to jump right into the forum's gabble and babble!
