The WHAT?! version? o_O .hack//DUSK is coming out Sept. 9, but what version are you talking about? The anime version?
Why does it have to be "Anime style" in "American cartoons?" There are lots of old American cartoons that have good plotlines, decent artwork, etc. What if it's the Japanese who are borrowing ideas?
Q.Asuka, I don't think maladjusted is trying to be politically correct. Simply, he wanted to express a methodology/style that he really could not say any other way than "anime style." Because he couldn't figure out another way to state this idea, he used a term that people would still understand. Personally, I think it's ridiculous how exact/perfect a person has to be in order to say something sometimes. We get the idea, and I think that should be all that a person is required to do. Anyway, I think it's interesting to say the least. And yes, whenever I see the Teen Titans commercial, I just dislike the extent they try to mimic anime. Specifically, I'm referring to the high-pitched singing they have. That's just excessive... Anyway, I think it's a great thing because not only does this "blend" display a greater acceptance of world cultures, it will also "desensitize" future generations, so to speak. Haha, I wait for the day when I can play yugioh without mockery (ironically, by Magic TCG players)!

Hate to play mod (didn't they warn you about these kinds of posts already?), but this thread can't generate a lot of discussion, especially not in this forum. I'm not bragging, but it's obvious who everybody's favorite .hack character is just by reading a person's posts. Through our discussions, everyone's been able to clearly say who their favorite is. Not only that, but also WHY that character is their favorite. Simply, this thread would be beating a dead horse. Just read other people's posts and you'll be able to tell who likes who, and who is the most popular. :)

Anime (US/CAN) General thoughts and ratings for .Hack//SIGN 21, "Despair
AzureWolf replied to Zephyr's topic in Otaku Central
It was interesting to see the video games series finally blend with the SIGN series. We have the "unbeatable" monsters and Helba. I thought that was interesting, since (as I have said before) the creators said that the fans will like the way SIGN flows into INFECTION. Wow, I didn't even think about Crim getting killed. I figured he retreated because he tried his best, but yeah, he wouldn't run away. I guess he just kept fighting until one of them fell, and, unfortunately, that wasn't the monster... :( Haha, I hate how she's not using "the spell." I guess she's determined to play within the boundaries of the game. Hopefully, we'll see her use it before the end of the series!
It seems that B.T. might actually have a heart; she was being considerate for a change, instead of cocky.
Bah! How dare all of you say B.T.'s good! Those of you in the B.T. club should be banned, or at least PKed! (j/k) Haha, but in a seriousness, I don't think it was nice what B.T. did: she thought it was humorous that Subaru was interested in Tsukasa when Tsukasa's user is really a girl. Then she doesn't even tell her, and now Tsukasa and Subaru's relationship can grow, so when the truth finally comes out, it will hurt Subaru even more. That's not a nice thing, IMO. Tell her before things get serious! Tsukasa's not blind! Haha, Yami*Maho Keno, that's some good sleuthing: saying knocking out the bear's eyes is symbolic of Tsukasa's blindness. However, I have to disagree with this idea because we have to remember that these are players in a game. I have yet to see any player paralyzed or physically disabled. I don't think it is possible. As much as the users are merging with "The World," I don't think blinding someone is something possible, or necessary for that matter (blind him? Why not just kill him?). However, yes, I'm of the firm belief that nothing in .hack//SIGN is without meaning. Any "insignificant" scene may actually be one of the most important parts of the series, hinting at something, but we just brush it off as "something that happened." So I'm always looking back at some scenes that I have not yet found the relevance of. Now, we've got that teddy bear scene, with Tsukasa plucking off those eyes... I think (THINK) there's a slighty deeper meaning to the teddy bear plucking scene. The bear's eyes were black, representing two things: monotony (singleness in this case) and sleep. Tsukasa's pupils are dilated. They say that our eyes "are windows to the soul." There is no soul behind those black eyes of the teddy bear. Tsukasa's trapped in the game. His mind has been trapped, but has his soul been trapped as well? Tsukasa seems to answer this question by rejecting what the bear represents: he doesn't know if he's human, but you won't see his/her soul through Tsukasa's eyes. Tsukasa, being both his own user and himself, loses more than most people when his character is damaged/altered/hurt. Tsukasa has lost a lot. The question remains, can what's left still be considered human? Even if Tsukasa's user returns to the real world, will whatever going back into that shell be enough to constitute a human being? There lies Tsukasa's singularity with his user, and the relation to the monotonous plucking of the Bear's false visage. The second refers to Aura. We see, in a dream, Aura opening her eyes, only to reveal black. Opening your eyes within a dream does not mean you are truly awake (obviously). Maha represents this idea best, as Maha may have his (her?) eyes wide open, but will he (she?) ever wake up in the real world? Is he (she?) anything beyond this "dream" world? Aura asks Tsukasa this question in that dream, opening black eyes, creating a paradoxical effect (i.e., eyes that are open, but they are black as if still in darkness/asleep). Now, Tsukasa is there, all alone, almost no different than Maha or Aura: just a character that has been "dreamt up" in "The World." Tsukasa can't open his eyes and awaken to the real world. Still, Tsukasa tries in vain to logout/wake-up, and he shows this effort by tearing the teddy bear's eyes, hoping that by removing the black dream eyes, reality will reveal itself. After breaking the first eye, it's obvious to Tsukasa that it's useless, but Tsukasa's monotony takes over from there. EDIT: Haha, or I may just be a crazed fan who has too much time and starts seeing things that aren't there! -
Yeah, Break is right: it depends on which Link you are talking about. I'm just going to take the coward's way out and say, "yes" because of the NES Zelda games, especially part 2 (The Adventures of Link). At the end,
curtain closes, and you see Link and Zelda's feet go close to each other
. You can't get more clear-cut than that, unless you want a PG-13 rating (or, in this case, T)!

I have this weird game, and I really just have to comment on the main character, whom I named Reuben (sp? Well, I looked in a dictionary when I spelled it in the game). Doesn't he look like a less cool version of Crono? He just seems more static, if that makes any sense... Anyway, to answer your question, yes, it is worth getting. It is one of the few Squaresoft games I actually like. Then again, I think the best thing Square ever made was Bushido Blade and Chrono Trigger, so my opinion may not be important to you. The story's all a blur, but I just remember the
mana tree
and the ending, which was pretty depressing. :( Then again, I think I was fairly young when I beat it...

The eternal Question " How the hell do women think?!"
AzureWolf replied to a topic in General Discussion
"A woman's mind is cleaner than a man's. She changes it more often." ~ Oliver Herford "If you can't say anything good about someone, sit right here by me." ~ Alice Lee Roosevelt Longworth -and- "I think men who have a pierced ear are better prepared for marriage. They've experienced pain and bought jewelry." ~ Rita Rudner There, all done. This thread is just like another thread that will remain anonymous: there's no way to say anything that won't offend one side or the other, so it's pointless to make a comment, no matter how true it is. -
It's in the August 2003 one (Vol. 7, #74). Bah, I don't see any keywords... There's only a joke there that I don't get, and not much else.
In part 3 of the .hack serieis, you are faced with the distinct possibility that
this virus might be unstoppable
, leaving .hack part 4 to be something developed by Mr. Nawton or Sam Antic. And still no internet fees invovled!
I just don't get it (the part I italicized)... Meh, there's a cool picture that I would love to use as a background, but nothing else worthwhile. EDIT: Oh, and the spoiler is ok for anyone who has completed part 2.

Chaos Legion is at the top of my gaming priorities. There's really nothing else, as what more would you want than a true sequel to Devil May Cry. Chaos Legion looks promising, and even though there's not much publicity and hype surrounding it, it may just be what us DMC1 fans have been itching for. Then again, DMC2 looked fine... PLEASE, PLEASE BE AWESOME! Need DMC, NEED DMC, NEED DMC... Uh... sorry, I got a little carried away there. I guess I'm just a little anxious... :twitch: FFX-2... I can't say I'm anticipating that at all. You've heard enough of me whining that I've been sick of the FF series since FF7 and beyond. Haha, I understand why people would want closure to FFX's ambiguous ending, but I didn't think much about it! I always consider the best of possibilities... :D EDIT: Ah, fudge, I feel like a traitor... How could I forget the last two .hack games? Of course, I'm looking forward to that brilliant series' continuation!

Haha, not the real website? That's a good one... Anyway, the website you posted is just what I said it was:
Anyway, there's an alternate title "king of TC video games." That's the random drawing one, and you just play Stairway to a Destined Duel with like 3 other people. People watch you play, and that's it.
It's only a sweepstakes, and can you imagine how many people have entered it? Only four of those thousands upon thousands of entrants will actual be selected. And again, that's just to play on the GBA game. There's no way you can enter the actual, more important, card game tournament. You can list as many "real" websites as you want, and I'll post as many "fake" websites I have to, but in the end, I've yet to see a clear-cut, no bull, outright statement from UDE saying "Enter TO PLAY/PARTICIPATE IN the Yugioh Worldwide tournament!" Yeah, you can be one of those four selected people and come for free, but everyone else will have to pay the $2 fee just to watch those four people play. Besides, I'd rather not watch a few people play on their GBA's. The card game is a different story...

Anime who's stronger? / who's the strongest?
AzureWolf replied to Radical Ed's topic in Otaku Central
You just put B.T. there on the list just so you can see her with zero votes... :p After getting PKed by Sora twice, I don't think there's any excuse for voting for B.T. After episode 21 (where's Shy with the "episode 21" thread anyway?), Sora and Crim will be ahead of the competition. We know Subaru can't fight, and Tsukasa's dead weight. B.T. I hate - oh, and she sucks. :D Then Bear's more the philosophical type. He can fight, but that's not a passion of his, so I doubt he's as good as Crim or Sora. The same with Mimiru: she may be strong, but I doubt it's on the level of those two. That leaves Silver Knight, who seems to lack grace and skill... Crim takes my vote because of what I mentioned in the Crim analysis thread! Sigh, Crim's only flaw is that he hasn't killed B.T., and that's why it was hard to choose between Sora and Crim because Sora's already killed B.T. two times. :) -
Originally posted by K.K.C. Well, I was reading the back of my second .hack//sign DVD today and noticed that on the back they have words scattered around. These are the words I was able to see. 1. Hot-Blooded 2. Greedy (BT *laughs*) 3. Soul 4. Haleidoscope (nirr?) 5. Great Seal 6. Bottomless 7. Spiral 8. Sleepy 9. Sinliny (not sure because it was hard to read) Well, What do you think these mean? I think they may have to do with the 3 keyword you use to get to different fields, but im not sure. what do you think?
That's exaclty what they are. Some I don't know about and don't even have, but you can mix three of those words together and generate a field in the video games. Unfortunately, there's no way to know which mix is the one they are hinting at (that is, if they are hinting at one at all). Good eye, K.K.C. I guess I'll try mixing a few and see what happens. Haha, I was just starting to visit more fields. Guess I'll give those a shot! :)

Domon, I'm sorry: I don't know how it works for any place except for the US. In Britain, maybe some people can sign-up (even though I doubt that). However, you can see for yourself how they try to elude the fact that you cannot participate:
From http://www.upperdeckentertainment.com/worldchamp2003/ Do you have what it takes? Come watch as TCG and video game duelists from around the world compete in the biggest tournament of the year and duel for the ultimate titles: Yu-Gi-Oh! King of TRADING CARD GAMES and Yu-Gi-Oh! King of Video Games! Next year IT COULD BE YOU!
Now, here's the part of the registration that everyone seems to be fooled by
Would you like to attend the World Championship 2003 Finals?
The way they word it is ambiguous, but notice how they don't use "participate" like they almost always do...

Lan, that was the Yu-Gi-Oh! Malltour, and it was a blast to play in, since you got a better understanding of how good you really are (I felt better, because the competition at my store is great!). Yeah, unfortunately, don't let Upperdeck's advertising fool you. They only say the truth once, and that's hidden in like one place. Anyway, there's no way to enter the worldwide championships. You can only enter to WATCH the top 5 duelists from the US compete for the title of "king of TC games." Anyway, there's an alternate title "king of TC video games." That's the random drawing one, and you just play Stairway to a Destined Duel with like 3 other people. People watch you play, and that's it. However, there will be another Malltour, so to speak. That's what you can sign up to do before the championships.. But remember, YOU CANNOT SIGN UP TO COMPETE IN THE WORLDWIDE TOURNAMENT, YOU CAN ONLY SIGN UP TO WATCH IT. UDE are a bunch of jerks trying to advertise it otherwise. They don't say it clear enough...

Anime And you all thought I was crazy... (Music Interview)
AzureWolf replied to AzureWolf's topic in Otaku Central
You're a bit confused? About what, out of curiousity? I think I understood the interview, so I'll try to explain whatever you didn't understand. Just so you know, after getting a lot of attention and kudos for her work on the .hack and Noir music, she started work on a soundtrack of her own. I think that's what they were referring to about "selling out." -
Anime What's your favorite aspect of .hack?
AzureWolf replied to OtakuSennen's topic in Otaku Central
I used to think Otakusennen and Azure Wold were girls ^_^' It happens alot online.
Ah, fudge, I knew it, I just knew it... I sound way too feminine! :faint: I'm a sissy! I knew this avatar was a little too "chibi." What the hell was I thinking... :bash: Haha, I'm just kidding, but how could you think an "AzureWolf" would be a girl? Anyway, I have to agree with K.K.C. on this one: the choice is really tough. I'm torn between all three selections!
The idea is sort of overdone, but still they pulled it off and made it original.
Huh? What are you talking about? I thought this plot was the most original story to come by in a long time.
The music is-- So greatly overwhelming. I have the entire soundtrack on CD.. Hehehe. *pops in burned CD*
I hear that! The minute I get the CD, I immediately rip the mp3's out of it and then burn them into a blank CD. I only use the actual CD when I think the situation merits it. Haha, I'm obsessed! Must keep .hack merchandise MINT! Anyone figure out how to rip that mini-disc? I can play it on my sound system, but I can't put it into my computer... Oh well.
I love the art too, it's great, Yoshiyuki Sadomoto did a great job with character design, but I like the music and plot more.
Yes, I know what you mean. It's wonderfully crafted. I'm betting that using that "music only" option on the DVD would be a great way to get a full appreciation for .hack's artwork. Hmm... that's actually not a bad idea! I guess I'll have to try that out and get back to you. Anyway, I guess since the story isn't completed in .hack//SIGN, I'm just conflicted between art and music... The art is symbolic, beautiful, and breathtaking, but the music just adds a little more for the series than the art, IMO. Just a little bit more... :D -
Whoa, whoa, whoa... Easy there... Haha, making avatars by the barrel-full, huh? Just one suggestion, though: put some kind of border around them. I think borders help both banners and avatars. :) Since I know what you use, just double click on the layer you made (or double-click and make the picture a layer and then double click it again). Then check "stroke." Then click on stroke (not on the box this time, but on the word "stroke). Then change "outside" to "inside" and just fiddle with the options! There you go...

Anime And you all thought I was crazy... (Music Interview)
AzureWolf posted a topic in Otaku Central
http://www.anifactor.com/article/?newsID=75 See? I knew it couldn't all have been a coincidence. Haha, multimedia in the "multimedia Project .hack" includes the music afterall! Anyway... Haha, I love the answer Yuki Kajiura gave for why most of the vocal music is sung in english! Her work with Noir is not unlike LIMINALITY music, and that's a good thing. I'm going to be keeping my eye on her work. :) -
I have an idea about how you can lower the number of law-breaking threads or continuous greetings threads that never seem to end. I say you should have a "Newbie of the month" thing, where everyone who joined in a certain month is applicable for the "award." However, those who broke even one rule cannot be nominated. That way, people will actually make an effort to read the rules, or at least follow them. Maybe the reward can be that their status will be "Newbie of the Month (month)" until they become a junior member. Just a suggestion. I don't know how practical it sounds...
-
Guess who gets my vote? That's right, that idiotic, show-offy, hyperactive, #1 loudest ninja, UZUMAKI NARUTO! His character makes him funny, but he's deeper than just silly. It's a perfect mix, IMO. It's not excessive, and it's not too small. I laugh so many times when watching Naruto, but then there's the other side of him you just have to smile at.
-
Cute guys? Haha, no thank you! :D I can't agree with the majority on that idea... :p Personally, anime just suits my tastes. It just has a much greater potential than "real" shows. I mean, in an anime, if you've got some kind of character in mind, you can create him: a carbon copy of what you envisioned. With real actors, you are limited with their looks, and you can only put a scar here or there to try, in vain, to perfectly recreate your planned, symbolic, and impactful character. Also, I know this idea may sound crazy, but I think it's easier to relate to created characters than actors. I mean, you know while watching that the actor is probably a rich a-hole who cares only for himself, and represents nothing that his played character represents. In anime, however, that character is that character, and there is no mask the character uses. EDIT: Yeah, but in the end, I just prefer anime because it's just more entertaining than the other stuff. :p

Ah, fudge... You have so many memorable moments in video gaming, but when a question like this thread comes along, it all disappears. :o Meh, I didn't think much of FF7. In fact, that scene didn't really floor me. I admit that they did a good job building you up for the surprise, but I don't know... Maybe it was because I prefer FF3 (aka FF6), or because I was sick of the same old gameplay format Square kept recycling when I played FF7. I guess I just never got into FF7 like I do in other games. Anyway... I would have to say one of the most memorable scenes were the endings to both Soul Reaver games. Now THAT floored me, especially part 2's ending. I mean, I still consider SR's epic story better than a lot of popular books/stories/novels. I was impressed that they handled so many themes and ideas with what they had to work with (Kain's coin, anyone?). On top of that, they were able to surprise you even after part 1's ending (come to think of it, even part 1's OPENING was amazing). From start to finish, from game to game, the SR series was a shock-fest. So, the SR games in their entirety I would vote to be one of the most memorable moments in gaming. EDIT: I'll post more later, when things come to me.

Is there any reason in particular you are wondering when Helba's seen in the anime? Haha, the only reason I can think of is to find out if they used the same voice actor. I wonder if they do have the same voice (if she speaks at all), and, if she doesn't, why they didn't use the same person.
-
Hey, is posting any link that is outside of OtakuBoards illegal and considered advertising? I'm fairly sure it is. If it is, I think that rule should be changed. Sometimes, the link is a source of discussion (i.e., anime news or some interview). I'm currently unsure about making a thread in the .hack//SIGN forum because what I want to quote is an exclusive interview, and I don't know if I'll be doing something wrong or illegal. Obviously, I'm going to give credit wher it's due, but it's an exclusive!
And that works for us, because I like to maintain control over our growth. I wouldn't want to receive 1,000 members in a single month or something, because the influx would be too great to handle in a short period of time. At least, it'd be too great to handle without double the staff or something.
That is so true. I've only ever been a member at one other forum, and that was YuGiOhRealms. In a little over one year of existence, they have made 60,000+ members (no typo on that), and, because of that, the Realms is too slow and problematic to visit anymore. Before it's flood of members, it was fine, but now, the server problems made me leave. Well, that was a secondary reason. The primary reason was that I wanted a forum that spanned more than just one of my interests, and that's how I came upon the OtakuBoards.
