Korean Movies

Honestly, I think part of the reason that Korea is underappreciated is that it has been pretty quiet and any noise they do make is credited to Japan since no distinction is made. Case and point, I still see many people get pissed and insulted when BoA is called Korean.
  3. What are you talking about? Phantasy Star has a huge following. II and IV were the best in the series, and Phantasy Star Online still has a niche following.
  4. My personal tricks and experiences: Never go "eye" shopping - spontaneously shopping and going on impulse - with your credit card. Force yourself to use money in that case so you don't splurge. Don't spend money you don't have. There's no penalty/interest for paying before the interest sets in - at least on my credit cards. Link your credit card with a checking account (Wachovia!). This way, money's always covered as long as you know you have it.

    Korean Movies
I'm surprised you haven't seen movies like Old Boy or Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. They're pretty iconic when it comes to Korean movies, even though they're recent. If you're interested in Korean movies, those two are musts.
What about My Sassy Girl?! T_T I despised those two movies, though. I wouldn't call them iconic for Korean movies, I would say they stand out because of their uniqueness. You know, if someone asked "what's the difference between Korean movies and other movies besides the language," you'd shove one of those movies in their face to demonstrate the... something of directors and storywriters. O_o Honestly, Old Boy... a more effed up movie I've never seen. I would say The Classic is probably the best Korean movie I've seen thus far. The way the story was told suited the name of the movie. The atmosphere and how relationships bloom with just a brushing encounter... it was really well-done, and it wasn't one of those movies where everything was just right but the story sucked. No, the story - although I normally hate ones that revolve around love - was sweet, thoughtful, and unique without being stupid or unbelievable. And it's not even one of those movies with a great start and terrible finish. It rocked all the way through. The end... oh, the ending... beautiful. T_T 200 Pounds Beauty was a major letdown for me. Idea was kind of cool, but I didn't laugh much and I wasn't really drawn into the movie any way. Although that Maria remake is really good, and the main character was not bad on the eyes, lol. Before anyone says anything: all the guys were ugly. =P I have to say, after watching anime for so long, it's kind of weird seeing real people speaking a phonetic language. I think subconsciously it became drilled in my head that those languages are reserved for fictional people. O_o
  6. No, I only like the fake hip hop lol. I know everyone hates him, but does Kanye West count as real? I like his new Stronger remix.
  7.
Where's the difference. This seem's, to me, to be one of those, "I wasn't being mean, I just wasn't being nice" comments. It makes no sense.
Ok, here's my best shot at making it clear. Consider the following hypothetical: A guy says he just killed someone, but he wasn't wearing a baseball cap so that makes it ok. I say that doesn't make it ok to kill the person. In fact, that has no connection to killing the person whatsoever. Wearing a baseball cap has no influence or relevance to murder. You interpret my rationale as a conclusion for some reason, and immediately think that because I said the baseball cap isn't connected to murder, that it MUST mean that killing a person requires a baseball cap! INCORRECT There's no validation (or invalidation) from wearing a baseball cap or not. See, now if he was doing it in self-defense that'd make it ok. Or maybe it's not ok because he did it out of spite. Whatever the reason, the baseball cap adds nothing to the argument. Now, if that made sense, replace "baseball cap" with "choice," and "murder/killing" with "homosexuality." Whatever the origin of homosexuality, there's no validation from a lack of choice. You need to provide other arguments to be convincing. If you still think there's no difference, then I don't know what you're smoking lol.
That almost made sense...untill it didn't. Was that a, "if I were gay..." comment? Because that's how I took it. Personaly, my whole view on it is this: I'm not gay, but if I were, how would I feel? So what if it's a personal choice to be gay? It's a personal choice to decide what woman I want to marry, so it's a personal choice to decide if I even want to marry a woman. If a woman can choose what man to marry, why can't a man choose what man to marry. Equal treatment, baby!!!
Dooooooooode, no way... NO WAY... If you thought I was serious, you need a sense of humor.
  8.
This is honestly the dumbest thread I've ever seen and I run a pretty dumb forum.
I don't know whether to be honored or insulted. Either way, that's quite an accomplishment considering the hilarity that ensues on [NOT A PLUG]*****Group Sounds*****[/NOT A PLUG].
  9. To clarify bell curve: 1 2 3 10 3 2 1 Very few people on the extremes, most people in the middle. Applying this to the graph, few people with low IQs have gotten lucky, many average IQ people get lucky, and few high IQs have gotten lucky. And actually, Soren, it's a correlational study, meaning what causes the other or if they both have some other cause altogether was not determined. That leaves room for random and fun speculations! Blame your parents, blame the government, blame Hello Kitty. 8-)
  10.
Sojiro pretty much nailed it. "People should realize that things that are not your choice do not validate it," meaning interracial attraction (hypothetically this could be something you have no influence upon) is not valid. Race and sexual orientation are arbitrary measures for segregation and discrimination, and as such really shouldn't be factored into deciding who you may or may not marry.
Here's what I'm seeing: Akiko --> anyone who says it's choice, it's not. AzureWolf --> no one did, and even if they did, what does it matter? Retribution --> discrimination from no choice is unfair, you believe interracial marriage is wrong AzureWolf --> what? I think there's some slight confusion, considering your example about interracial attraction I quoted. I never said things that are not your choice are automatically invalid. I said there is no validation from lack of choice. No validation and invalid are different. I'm saying things that one has no choice over justifies and proves nothing about said thing. Like, if I said "the egg needs a chicken to lay it" doesn't automatically mean I believe that the chicken came before the egg. See the difference? And yeah, I haven't stated my stance on the matter, mostly because I have trouble articulating it to myself, let alone to other people. If it helps, it's an amalgamation of religious (including religions that are not my own) ideas, scientific thoughts and discoveries, and social competition on the subject that mesh together to create... chaos and lack of logic. A small nutshell of said chaos: They are studying what influences the development of the sexually dimorphic nuclei of the hypothalamus (scientific). So iif there was a way to change your sexuality (during development, meaning it probably would be the parents' call), do I think homosexuals should take it? No, because that'll be more frustration for me (social). Should other straight male take it. Hell (religious) yeeeaaaah...
  11.
Discrimination on the basis of factors an individual has no control over is almost always unfair. Should the government not allow blacks to marry whites? Likewise, should the government not allow men to marry other men, or women to marry other women?
I wasn't talking about fairness/communism. I was talking about right or wrong. They are not the same. If you're implying it's unfair that some people get to be gay and others get to be straight, then that's an interesting proposition that implies one is better than the other.
  12. The article can be found here, but I think this graph of high school students sums it up nicely. X-axis is IQ, while the y-axis is relative probability of having been laid at least once (if not more). By relative, it means that the average IQ of the participants was given a probability value of 1, and any deviation from that value is a percent of that value quantitatively. I think that's just awesome. Why? Because if you want to make wild extrapolations, THAT'S the origin of the bell curve! If IQs were solely hereditary, then idiots propagate just as much as geniuses, and the average person screws early meaning more babies over time). So next time you get a bad grade based on the bell curve, you can totally blame your parents or genetics! lol
  13.
And to anyone who says it's a choice..... it's not.
I don't think anyone argues that is it a choice (although it hasn't been proven if it's psychological, environmental, or genetic, or a mix, but that's another argument altogether). At the same time, people should realize that things that are not your choice do not validate it. The world is unfair: people are born into poverty. Should we just let that be allowed because it's not a choice? Is that ok? Just because something is out of your control doesn't give it an inherent value of right or wrong. On the aside, I think bisexuals are awesome: they are the epitome of indiscrimination!
  14.
I personally like downloading my mail on my computer for access even when the Internet isn't working for me... so in that sense, web mail never will really replace anything for my uses.
What client do you use? And my personal reasoning was, "if I'm going to be sending and receiving e-mail, you need to be online for that anyway" sort of thing. But yeah, digging into archives offline is useful to many people, so I understand. In fact, that's what I loved doing. But once I realized I format/move/change computers too much and sometimes lose data keeping my mail like that, I like the security of web-mail.
  15. For the longest time, I found myself using Thunderbird (and for a short time when I first got a Mac, Mail.app). However, Gmail has become so versatile and useful, that I made a complete migration over to it. I consolidated all my accounts there: one real-life e-mail account, and another for all online matters. All other accounts have either been deleted, or, if it's a necessary account, forwarded to the appropriate account. Organization in Gmail is so well-controlled and dynamic because of searches and labelling, that it frags Thunderbird's poorly implemented tags (although smart folders always rocked). The interface is simple and pleasant, which I can't say for Thunderbird's clunky, linux-esque feeling. Long story short: I love Gmail. I think it's the beats all other e-mail programs and accounts. What are your thoughts? Do you use an e-mail client or stick to web-based mail only? Why?
  16.
Yes, but there is no proof of these alledged altercations, other than the altercations themselves, which haven't been proven as altered. [/confusion] History has yet to show that there was any form of altering Biblical texs, other than the translations. And for the record, I'm not speaking as a Christian, but as one who has stutied many religions and arts of the "ocult".
It's reciprocal: it hasn't been proven that through thousands of years, poorly-kept, handwritten, and transcribed iterations have flawlessly survived through time 100% intact to bring us unadulterated Bible goodness. I know even when I write a page today I make errors, and I'm fervent those errors multiply with novel-sized books, nevermind with trouble writing those texts. So that's kind of a moot statement to make. Of course it's speculation, just like all faith-based statements.
  17.
But I watched a Sailor Moon movie once and couldnt get over those trasforming sequences :D . I think that the Japanies have some weird fetishs like that tentical hentai :wigout:
Tentical hentai isn't JUST a fetish, it's a lifestyle. Show some respect. :-P Geez... kids these days
  18. You can't deny the sex appeal almost EVERY anime exploits. I love anime as much as the next guy, but I'm not going to deny the fact that almost every good anime I've seen has someone with either ridiculously huge boobs, really short skirts, pathetic/overly obvious flirting, or some other sex, guy-likes-girl-girl-doesn't-know-how-she-feels spin. While arguing that it's a great element is beyond the point, I'm not sayng that's a bad thing. Just that the parents are pretty much on the mark with their stereotyping. C'mon, you can't deny it. =P
  19. Actually, there are quite a few people and religions that believe the texts are altered. 20% of the world's religious population, Muslims, believe that the Bible was originally a religious text, but has been altered to accommodate those who altered it. Also, there are a growing number of Christians themselves who believe that contradictions or any "problems" in the Bible stem from human alterations and not the modernization of times.
  20. Rip the CD image using one of the billion free image ripping programs out there (best format IMO is .iso format - .toast if Mac). Install Daemon Tools (or Alcohol 120%) and mount the image. Keep the image file on your computer and mount whenever you need it. For Mac, it's very intuitive and aside from ripping it, no additional steps are necessary.
  21. *points and laughs* Ahem... All kidding aside, I would say, the shorter the better. You can't "shave" long hair. If you wait until your pubes (or any hair for that matter) is grotesquely long, then shaving is out of the question. Trying to shave it hten will result in making contact and sometimes catching a part of the hair other than close to the root, which will most likely pull instead of cut. You have to first trim it. I would recommend using something like what barbers use to level down your hair, that electric razor that doesn't work like shaving blades. Once the hair is short enough, HOT water. This is more important than shaving cream (I'm talking from facial hair experience, but hair is hair), as it opens the pores and makes the hair more compliant. Finally, although seemingly counterintuitive, try your best to use a sharp blade. It creates less trouble and a cleaner cut, which means less frequency of going over the same spot which equals less chance for hurting yourself.
  22.
You make a good arguement, but you forget that back back back in the day, people married their cousins, and I'm not entirely sure if there was any ill-effect on the populace.
There are a couple of known, increased incidence conditions for communities that are closely related to one another. Take the infamously frequent sixth digit in Amish communities. CAVEAT: while 6th digit mutation it is MORE frequent in the closed communities compared to open (i.e., relative), the rate of incidence is still very low in both (i.e. absolute). So you can have 500% greater chance of getting it if you're in that population (relative), but if the chance was originally 0.001% (absolute 0.5%), it's still not much of a big deal.
  23. I think, AT THE LEAST, the aversion to homosexuality is understandable. If you're straight, and you're completely ignorant of homosexuality, then seeing two guys holding hands and kissing just gives you a weird vibe. It's ignorance that drives the fuel for hatred, but you have to understand, just like how gay people just "feel" like there's something "off" about a girl and a guy kissing, it's no different than how straight people feel about seeing them. I'm not justifying either, mind you, but I'm explaining that the phenomenon is understandable and not a "OMG?! WTF IS WRONG WITH EVERYONE?!" sort of situation. If you can be tolerant of different sexual preferences, why can't you be tolerant of ignorance?

    Ohayocon

That's a real word/thing?! Great, now I have to change my OB password... -_- The name is clever, though, ohio-con, except with engrish mixed in for good measure. I never knew the midwest had anime conventions. If you're a regular, it's been around for a while, huh?
  25. Yeah, I actually find bugmenot to be extremely helpful for those times where I'd like to read something or see an attachment and probably will never trod on the site ever again. That's what it's great for.
