Being someone from the northern Bay Area in California, mingling is normal, natural, and unavoidable. For Eric Holder [a jerk by the way] to lecture ME of all people on the evils of not being interracial is moronic. He's feeling guilty for some reason because he's just got a job that's quite frankly the kind that will make him wealthy, so he takes out his feelings by lecturing the rest of America until he feels better about himself. I think I speak for most of my multicultural [by virtue of their free will] friends when I tell Mr. Holder to, and I quote here. "Drink, Drive, and Die."

You're missing so little Rach and Indi and Sabrina. Although everyone should experience a hangover once. It's a life building sort of event. The worst I've done while drunk is engage in adult behavior loudly while the window was still wide open. This of course meant everyone at the party heard and a reasonable amount of snickering ensued. Alas. 12 shots of vodka/tequila/assorted mixed drinks in one sitting. Favorite drink is Jack and Coke, because I'm a big girl.

The morning sun was just beginning to send streaks of light across the mattress, and I opened my eyes very slowly. Gavin's head was resting on my shoulder, his right hand around my waist, and the other buried under the pillows. He sounded like he was still sleeping, so I turned and let my eyes roam across the lines of his body to the armor he'd thrown into the corner. My cloak and shirt were underneath, and I sighed aloud at the irony. At my voice he stirred once, then pushed himself up a little. Gavin leaned down and kissed me once, twice, lingering over the freshly healed bite mark he'd given me the night before. I raised a slender hand and touched his, then slid it over his shoulder to his back, rubbing the lines I'd scratched into his skin. He recoiled and laughed aloud, rolling down next to me and pulling me closer to him. "I have to get out of bed and serve my master you know." "He can get his own breakfast." "Oh get on with you." I pushed him away teasingly and began to dress, pulling a fresh shirt over my head. Gavin leaned back lazily, while I tugged the leggings up to my waist, lacing up the boots I'd somehow managed to take off last night. I pulled my cloak out from under his chest plating and secured it with a ring broach from my table. "Better get dressed. Neil probably doesn't want you to distract me from my work." "You think so?" Rolling my eyes, I pushed the door open and headed down the hall where Oima was waiting, tray in hand. I took it from her and was subjected to a certain amount of giggling. "So how was he?" "Ahh...big? And....strong?" "Oh you're no fun! But you should've showered. You've got his scent all over you." "Saiya-jin tradition. First morning after you have to wear the scent for awhile just so everyone else knows what's going on." "Wonder how the Master will like that." "It was his idea." I let Oima stare at me open-mouthed, while I headed for Master Neil's study. He was sitting at his desk, and when I set down the tray he sniffed once, then looked up at me. "I take it you found him a suitable mate." "Adequate." "So cold Evrada? I thought you'd be pleased." "If I were pleased, it'd mean I liked him, which means I'd be emotionally attached to someone who may very well not live to see his children." "Good point." He tinkered with a silver knife for half a moment, then set it down and looked out the window instead. "You're already pregnant?" "It's entirely possible. He doesn't leave for his mission for another week." "Do you have any particular plans then?" "Give birth?" Neil smirked and gave me a snarky look. A child beget on his handmaiden was a liability, which would tie Gavin back to Neil in a way that went well beyond original mission and employer. Legally the child would be Gavin's, but legally I would be Neil's. A tangled web of intricacies and legalities that actually made me smile. "I know what you're thinking Evrada." "You did this on purpose." "I can not tell a lie. I totally did." I resisted the urge to throw something heavy at my master and left without waiting for him to give me permission.

When I was thirteen I was kicking boys my age in the shins and running around with braces and my first brassiere. This kid's life is now effectively ruined. Oh yes, and that fifteen year old floozie cheated on him like six times with other boys his age. So who knows if he's actually the father or not? He's not only a thirteen year old with the 'responsibilities' of parenthood, he's also dating a cheating skank. Congratulations.
I'm not currently wearing pants with pockets. When I do wear pants with pockets they are - as afformentioned - tiny pockets. I try not to keep stuff in my pockets because I forget it's there when I take them off, and I've washed 20 bucks that way. The only thing I ever keep in my pocket is my Burt Bees Pomegranite Honey Lip Balm, because it stays warm and soft that way instead of waxy. Oh, and sometimes my hands. When I remember that I have pockets.
Yeah but money can manage being washed. Your social security card can't. I'm also wearing pocketless pants right now, if only because I think pockets poke you in bad ways. My jean pockets occasionally get to hold my plastic coated IDs, but not often. Right now the only thing in my pants are my legs, num num bits, and the boyshorts I'm wearing.

As she turned she saw Macey standing behind her with a markedly cheerful expression, holding her drink between graceful fingers. "You're looking very well Esther." "Oh, well thank you." "You seem nervous. Is something the matter?" "It's just the unfamiliar surroundings. And the feeling that everyone wants to suddenly turn on my husband and stab him repeatedly." "Oh they're too terrified for that, at least after Ivan's little shenanigan." "Is your family always so interesting?" "You should've been here last year. It made this party seem positively dull." Macey gave her what she hoped was a reassuring smile and Esther returned the favor. Dwalish caught her eye and she gave a polite nod to Macey and drifted back towards him. Turning to survey the crowd, Macey saw her father give her a brief salute with his glass and she immediately began the process of weaving her way through the crowd towards him. As she did, she caught a drift of something Belmonda Archard had been saying that she immediately stifled when she saw Macey. "Hardly dare t--" Arranging a vacuous smile, Belmonda simpered at Macey in a way that reminded her very strongly of her former mother-in-law. Instead of rising to the obvious bait, Macey arched one eyebrow and smiled as genuinely as she knew how. "So good to see you Belmonda. I trust our humble caterers are sufficient for your exquisite taste." Instead of responding immediately, Belmonda merely looked flustered, which Macey took as her cue to continue on to Leonhart. Leaving behind the person she'd given up on avoiding entirely, she took refuge in her father's courtly taking of her hand. He led her to the balcony and gave her a rueful smile. "You just couldn't resist saying a few words to her could you?" "They were all very polite father. You know I wouldn't make a scene. I've worked that out of my system." "If only my other relatives had done the same." "What did you want to talk to me about?" Leonhart looked over his shoulder as if checking for spies, and then turned back to Macey casually, as if discussing the beautiful weather. "There will be an expedition leaving soon to study the artifacts that we've connected to the Xear. Would you be able to accompany us as the group's biological scientist?" "I'll have to check my lecturers schedule. I might be able to, but I'm not 100% sure." "That's understandable. Your schedule almost puts mine to shame." "Well if I don't keep busy I may just fall apart." The two shared a chuckle that perhaps only they understood and Macey turned to see Belmonda whispering something furiously to one of her relatives. On the other side of the pavilion, Esther was chattering brightly to Dwalish and turned back to wave cheerfully at Macey. She returned the gesture with a lady-like flick of her hand and grinned. Peace at last.

I loped after him immediately, using the chair to launch myself up and forward, chasing him through the house into the back room when Escobar immediately lunged in front of Korey, tripping him just enough to make him turn around just in time to see me coming at him. Taking a quick leap upwards, I used first my right and then left foot to gain altitude as I passed through the door frame. Arms outstretched, I arched forward and caught him around the neck, rolling forward with the rest of my momentum to land on top of him with a terrific crash. Escobar barked cheerfully, racing in circles around us while Korey groaned and gasped for breath, feeling that I'd bruised his ribs, when in reality I'd just caught myself in time to keep from slamming heavily against his torso. "You dick." "That's what I have, don't wear it out." "I'll think about it." Being on top of someone was a position I had forgotten about, but for some reason my body didn't mind. I arched back a little and flicked my leg down under his while his hands rested on the small of my back, pulling me towards his hip. "Still thinking about it?" "Don't rush me. Rushing me leads to broken ribs." "So I'm discovering." "And what would the others think?" "Carol wouldn't notice. Eros would laugh." I shrugged and dipped my head down to steal a kiss from him quickly, then pulled away. Footsteps behind us made me turn around, still covering Korey with my body. Eros was looking down at us, his expression cheerful despite his recent losses. He smelled like tequila and I wrinkled my nose at him. "Should I leave you two alone for perhaps a bit longer?" "If you come back in fifteen minutes it might be more interesting." "Doubtful. Carol says the house reads all clear. We're going to go check it out as soon as we finish shutting down things here." "Oh goodie." I stood up and let Korey fix himself without my help. Walking towards the door, I straightened my shirt and pants, checking by the cook stove for my boots.

Two of Neil's guards stood at the door, one opening it for me as I passed through with after dinner drinks. Neil's mistress was already in bed, and the feral that I dimly remembered as Crystia was there with her. Oima and the other servants had mostly gone to bed, while I remained, bringing refreshments to the men, who were still talking. Pouring beer for the men, leaning over slightly so my breasts were in Gavin's face, I kept my expression remote, which was ridiculously easy with no pupils. Neil raised one eyebrow when Gavin's scent automatically changed, and I withdrew again to kneel nearby. Their conversation drifted over to me when I cared to pay attention, and I heard them discussing the upcoming wars in bits and pieces. Then Neil made some offhand remark and I immediately paid strict attention once more. "You wouldn't steal my handmaiden away would you?" "I have no comfortable house, I visit you quite often, and after this mission I'll be able to settle down." "So not right away." "Perhaps not for a long time. And steal is such an ugly word." Neil raised his glass and gave Gavin a wry look. I kept the smile from my face, knowing that look was partially disgust, and partially amusement. Neil gave me one of our nonverbal signals to dismiss me and I rose to my feet in a rustle of silk. I walked out and lingered in the hall patiently, sitting back and floating slightly, if only to practice a little at fine tuning the movements of flight. My patience was rewarded when Gavin appeared at the door, looking bemused. "I'm not sure I remember the way out." "And it would be rude to just leave through the window." "Very rude indeed." He walked towards me slowly, and I carefully dropped back to the ground, looking up at him but not making eye contact as most slaves just wouldn't do. Gavin leaned forward in a slight movement and put his face close to mine, even though his chin was somewhere in the vicinity of my forehead. I heard him inhale and I felt my own scent change automatically when he smiled and reached out for me, moving my hair away from my shoulders. "Your master seems to hold you in high regard." "Not so high that he wouldn't use me to further his own gains." "Who can blame him? To not use you would be a crime." "Would it?" I looked up at him this time, fearlessly and he smiled down at me, kissed my forehead and then my cheek. Drawing away, I turned to walk down the hall, trusting him to follow me automatically. I half expected him to simply leave. I didn't expect him to put his hands around my waist and press me against the curve of the wall leading upstairs, kissing my throat and neck and virtually lifting me off the ground to put his lips all over me. I looked to my left back down the hall as he bit my neck and saw Neil quietly open the door of his study, and walk out into the hall. He gave me a mirthful look for half a moment, then turned and went back to his bedroom. Just then, Gavin sank his teeth into my neck and I hissed audibly and responded in kind, whipping my head forward and biting so deeply I could feel his muscles flexing beneath my fangs. He wrenched away from me by sheer force of will and put my hand to the bite, the smell of blood nearly choking us both. I let him lift me and pointed upwards to my own bedroom. He carried me like a child and set me down on the bed gently, smiling when I undid my blouse and pulled him across the sheets to me.

There's a reason jealousy is a deadly sin. It's like tailgating on the highway. Doesn't get you any closer to your destination any faster, and you'll lose everything. There is no reason you should be jealous of white people simply because they might have worked hard or had others in their life who worked hard for their benefit. It's not an advantage to be white these days any more than it's an advantage to have two working feet. To say that it's only white people who get a free pass is intellectually dishonest.

Strange, I know those things that you linked to Dagger, because someone tried to shove that nonsense down my throat in a 101 course. Because I am half white I was told that I had white privilege but somehow that didn't help me get into college any easier than any of my other friends. I still had to work to earn what I have and my race had nothing to do with it. Professors in colleges all over the country try to impose WHITE GUILT on people who never owned slaves, profited from owning slaves, or oppressed black people in any possible way. I have white ancestors, but those white ancestors were looked down on by other groups of white ancestors as badly as black people. Ask the American Irish how they felt or the Jewish and German immigrants. Black History Month is just another reminder that small screaming annoying groups of people will get what they want regardless of what the majority thinks.
It's a not a big deal. It's a month set aside to honor and commemorate the achievements of a minority group that has had the greatest impact on US history. It's not saying trying to say "black history is better than white history". Also I will smack anyone who asks why there isn't a white history month. Get over it.
Why shouldn't there be? The achievements of white people are just as important. Madame Curie, Albert Einstein, The inventor of the Model T Ford? Black history IS better than white history if we're oozing all over a special group as if they're more exciting than the rest of the old dead white guys. But if we have black history month, why not have Asian History month? Indian History Month? I'd like to spend time revisiting all the glorious things Chinese civilization brought to the world. Gunpowder, Earthquake Detectors, writing, noodles.

First impressions? Moronic. Second impressions? Really moronic. How dare someone suggest that your carbon footprint have any bearing on who you spend your happiest hours with? Secondly, I find the idea that carbon [one percent of our entire atmosphere] as a pollutant a foolish and entirely unscientific stance. The idea of a carbon footprint as something negative is completely unprovable and the list of people who disagree with such idiotic notions includes not only Republicans but actual legitimate scientists who have studied climatology their whole lives. Why shouldn't Christians boldly state their faith if they've paid good money for it? They don't need to use 'probably' because they don't think there's anything probable about it whereas some atheists probably don't know so there is some quality of the unknown to their beliefs. Therefore, one shouldn't jump up and compare the two because to be honest, it's only a message, and if a bus sign changes your life, you may have other problems.

Quotes: The silly, the strange and the questionable
Raiha replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
?No one appreciates the very special genius of your conversation as the dog does.? -Christopher Morley ?Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.? -Robert Heinlein -
It's extremely hard for me to care about the color of someone's skin as if that somehow makes their contributions to science, politics, etc. more valid than people who have a differently colored skin, orientation, religion. It's the same thing with schools in California putting a special emphasis on the wonders of homosexual people in history. Pointless, divisive and serves no other purpose but to further fracture the lines between black, brown, yellow, white, etc. Celebrate Harriet Tubman because she saved people from slavery, not because she was black. In the same way, we can celebrate the General Robert E. Lee because he released his slaves from his property months before his fellow general on the other side [the 'right' side] did the same thing. All Black History month accomplishes now is to make the more radical groups within the party sound like children jumping up and down trying to make it to the head of the class screaming: "NOTICE MEEEEE!"
