Your high school should have them. That is typically the only place they're available since they have a say in if you can hold a job or not, next to your parents of course. But if you're 14, I'm not sure of the rules where you live but you might be too young still. And if you're caught, wherever hired you might be in trouble if it's found out. Be careful.

Once again, my OB knowledge fails me, but since I need the help of the anime watching obsessives that live here... I just made a black velour cloak without sleeves, but a deep hood and a wide train. What anime characters, preferably female, would this work with? Are there any? Do they involve big staffs or glaives? I can't think of any but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I call the rest of you nice humans to help me. If you can.
Something I do miss is people knowing me... I almost feel shy posting these days, and the majority of what I post is completely ignored. Still, this is how it is now. Also I just found out two of my friends here have been banned somewhere along the way. Some of the others have left, and the rest have changed their names beyond recognition! *clings to Raiha* Ps. I take back what I said about missing being immature and outspoken... Heads up Children, Slayers Revolution is being dubbed in English as we speak and since the series started at the beginning of the month, you should all now be rejoicing with me. It's only been like 12 years. We've only had to suffer through mediocre movies without the people we know and love. Zelgadis Graywords, Goury Gabriev, and so on and so forth. Have you seen it? Do you not know? Have you not heard? Do you not love? If you don't then you're simply an abominable snowman without the snow. Slayers was, is, and always has been a glorious celebration of dramatic plot set off by a selfish yet lovable female protagonist with an abysmally small chest. As such the series is near and dear to my heart, which is easy to find because of the lack of- ANYWAY you should all go find it and watch it. And probably go find Slayers, Slayers NEXT and Slayers TRY. All of them are worth watching and the current season, while much more polished, still retains that charming 90's anime feel that is a nice break from the grittier realistic style favored today.

The officer was young, perhaps bored out of his mind, but he still made a semblance of asking me questions. The nurse merely handed me extra paperwork that I blazed through. Once you've signed one wavier, and read it too, then you've done it all. After I let the cop propel me towards a poorly maintained window seat and sat there primly, with the duffel bag at my feet. "Now Miss...?" "Grace." "Yes. Miss Grace. You say your brother just turned up on your doorstep bleeding profusely from gunshot wounds?" "Yes Officer. I had expected him for dinner at 7 but he didn't show up until 10:45." "Did you call?" "We can't afford cell phones." The cop's tone became almost patronizing, so much so that it made my teeth hurt. I saw Kenso shoot the cop a dirty look from the corner of my eye. It went unnoticed but it soothed me anyway. "Of course you can't. So you have no idea what he was up to?" "For all I know Officer he was handling snakes at the church on 10th and McKenzie." "Handling...snakes..." "Yes, some of the believers use it to prove their devotion to God." You would've thought by now the cop would've realized I was dancing around him in a merry jig of intellectualism but instead he seemed interested. It wasn't until the nurse came back and cleared her throat for my attention that he began to wrap up a rather long winded lecture on the importance of looking out for my younger brother. "As I was saying, he was probably in the wrong place at the wrong time Officer. But you will have to ask him yourself when he's fit to answer questions." "Of course. We'll be in touch." "If you'd like to go in Miss Grace, you can see him." The nurse was young, her eyes slightly bewildered. I could tell she was already having second thoughts about her choice of profession, but no other job in this city would've made her feel like she was making a real difference, save mine. I stood up and followed her, leaving the cop to turn on Gavin and Kenso, hoping vainly that they would be more forthcoming than me. "He's recovering, but the doctor can tell you more once he comes back from scrubbing." "Thank you Mayella." The nurse turned to me at the door, tears smarting in her eyes. I had learned from years of work, that nobody likes anything more than the realization that the some people still care enough to read name badges. And take the time to use the names read on them. I gave her a reassuring glance to cowgirl up my feelings and then stepped in my brother's room. A beeping sound was a constant in the background, and I reached for the remote at the foot of his bed, turning off the jangling sitcom blaring on the TV. Michael looked almost grey, but I took his hand and could feel his pulse strongly through his thumb. A swath of bandages, and that ridiculous hospital gown, but I didn't care. Instead I bowed my head and mumbled off the first twenty lines of the Lotus Sutra for him before I choked on tears. We might have had our differences, but I'd still say a prayer for him for the religion he had taken as his own. I imagined Jae standing next to me, chanting as well. Her tongue was able to bend through the syllables far more effectively than mine. Either way I then switched to muttering the end of a benediction for him from my own chosen religion and then turned back to find the young doctor coming in.

It's Independence Day... In America!
Raiha replied to The Spectacular Professor's topic in General Discussion
Thank you Rach. And thank you Ace. Thank you for saving me from the trouble of crucifying Prem on the altar of "He Made Too Many Generalizations." Even if I think America today has been hijacked by a psychotic left wing that thinks society has died and left them in charge of saving everyone from themselves, I still would rather be here than in Cuba. China. Africa. Venuzuela. Sensing a theme here? Because we still have the freedom to disagree with each other and the freedom to choose who will be the next one to take a crack at being the leader of the free world. Such as it is. It's naive to think that a president will be the one to singlehandedly save the world. Or restore us to our former glory. What glory? The second World War is over. War isn't glamorous anymore because we made the mistake of letting people see what it's really like. But that's not really the point. Nothing can save us now but a little Deus Ex Machina. Which nobody has lying around in their closets I'm sure. And it's also depressing when you consider the fact that the person everyone's thinking is Mr. Change has a wife that thinks Obama will "Heal America's Souls." But what the heck. It's not the Fourth anymore but thus far nobody I know has been arrested for the massive amounts of black powder, and also those fun long sparklers. I agree. Sparklers? Illegal? What will they do, give you a seizure? I mean they are almost always set off on someone's driveway which means that the hose is two feet from you at almost all times. THE HOSE PEOPLE. It's Independence Day... In America!
Raiha replied to The Spectacular Professor's topic in General Discussion
I did COMPLETELY illegal things with my good redneck All American friends. We had black powder. And a miniature cannon. And swab. And yeaaaaah... Bottle rockets fired from bottles of Corona, hidden in the folds of my very large skirt when police drove by. And a huge suitcase stuffed with all manner of totally banned fireworks. Although me, being Chinese, felt like I was at one LONG funeral procession. Fellow Asians will get the joke. -
Rouni walked through the dimly lit hallway leading to his fourth story apartment. Trailing behind him in all her insubstantiality was She Who Consumes, no more there than a breath of wind or the wafting of white smoke from a pipe. Her laughter manifested to him as the simple choking sounds of one of his neighbors, drowning out the footfalls of the assassin who had summoned Her by his very presence. "Poor poor Rouni. This is going to be so sad." The door behind him shut, Rouni stood in his apartment, untying his boots, and dropping his jacket on the bench by the closet. As if the door were simply not there, She Who Consumes walked across the threshold and drifted towards the living room, the balcony immediately to the right, showing the other high rise apartments close at hand. Lying down on one of his battered sofas, She rested her elongated muzzle on her paws and watched Ruoni slip his feet out of his boots with a sigh, then raised her head just slightly and let out a low quiet moan, almost like a sigh. He turned his head sharply in time to see his door kicked in, splinters flying and someone with the gall to be using a facemask burst in. The reaction time couldn't have been better if it were choreographed, Rouni snatched away the Glock before any shots were fired and flung it behind him across the living space, the metal passing through Her as if she weren't even there. Then in the next movement, he swung his same arm around to catch his assailant in the chest. He recoiled, and swung back almost sloppily. Rouni found himself laughing almost at the assassin's surprised eyes. It was pretty obvious he'd been expecting someone far less adept at hand to hand. Standing barefoot on the splintered remains of his door, Rouni ducked and swept his leg around, missing entirely. She Who Consumes was standing now, and howling aloud, a sound both assassin and Rouni could've heard if they hadn't been focusing on the sounds of their own breathing. With a quick inward swing, Rouni brought his elbow straight into the assassin's face, the sound of a breaking nose crinkling in his eardrums. But he must have undergone some kind of training against pain, because his response was an immediate attack in return. A haymaker sent Rouni sprawling against his sliding glass door, the force shattering the poorly made glass. The punch he leaned into in retaliation was caught almost before it started. The gun had already skidded across the hardwood floor and was within easy reach of both Rouni and assassin. Using his free hand, Rouni grabbed at it only to be swung around by the assassin onto the concrete balcony. Taking two quick steps forward, the assassin brought the gun up, as Rouni looked down at the drop behind him. The adrenaline rushed and snapped through his system, blood from a broken lip trickling into his mouth. Rouni braced himself against the railing with his arms and brought up both legs at once, snatching the assassin and hurling him upwards above his head. A scream, shots fired, and Rouni fell face forward, two lucky ones in his back. The assassin kept falling, and was crushed against the sidewalk, the gun bouncing out of sight into a drainage hole. "....fuck this." She Who Consumes stretched languidly, and padded across the balcony edge, fully corporeal. She leaned down to Rouni, nuzzling his cooling cheek, her whiskers teasing his skin. He felt like laughing at the absurdity of it all, and he reached up to stroke her forehead, tendrils of energy snaking down to envelop him. He'd died for no reason at all. No one to protect, and in the end a hellhound had come to meet him. She Who Consumes chuckled and Her voice became human to him. "Laugh like you want it."
Wow thats some splended stereotyping. Im lucky I didnt use my arabic name, for I would have loathed being classed a terrorist.:animeangr
For terrorism? I'd like to think I got the main ones people classify as terrorists these days. And would you have preferred I simply say "jihadist?" I don't think every Muslim in the world is a terrorist but to say that there are no muslim terrorists is misleading. Use your Arabic name and I'll think you're Muslim. Advocate the death of America and I'll think you're a terrorist. Or liberal. Now you can accept my clarification, which was intended to be moderately tongue in cheek or keep on being offended. And nobody said you weren't American CK. The words were 'criticized America.' But since every foreigner from here to the Azores has done that it doesn't equal terrorist. Furthermore, unless you're Cherokee or Sioux, nobody on OB is originally from America.

And would other people I'd want to think me beautiful still think I was beautiful if I had the brains of a cabbage? Doubtful.

I didn't say anything. My face was blank enough to be carved and that was fine with me. Part of me was grateful to Gavin for jumping in to help me. But now the orderlies were helping him. Stabilizing him? Gavin looked over at me but I didn't acknowledge. "What is it Raiha?" I shrugged silently and turned back to look at my brother. He was out of it, and I guess that was a blessing. As the ambulance turned the corner I saw Jae behind us in my car. That piece of shit could barely keep up, but I could still see her. As we poured out of the ambulance to make room for them, I stepped back and then automatically filled out the paperwork handed to me. Jae had already parked and run over with a duffelbag slapping against her hip as she did. "I brought your purse!" There were times when I was very happy I worked for Social Services. Even though everyone thought I was in shock, but I had seen this before. They just didn't know it. I filled out the paperwork automatically, the numbers in my head leaping down to the paper through my fingers. Then I turned and handed the clipboard to the impassive nurse at the desk along with the insurance card from Jae. By the time I'd finished checking in my brother, Gavin was standing at the window in the waiting room and I went to the bathroom instead of walking over to talk to him. It was then that I realized I was wearing thin flip flop sandals and just my nightshirt. I was also bloodstained. All of a sudden, with the realization that my brother was in the ER, and I could do nothing for him, I wanted nothing more than to go home. Even if it was unsafe. I could even see what had happened to my little brother. He was shot in the hip because wannabe gangsters all had that stupid habit of shooting with their guns cocked to the side like it made them look cooler. No. It just fucked up your aim. They could've just gone for him in the head. But they missed. Or maybe they were just having fun with him. Why was I even trying to piece it together? I wasn't a cop. Kenso was the cop. The bathroom door opened and I jumped up from the bench by the sinks. Jae stood at the door with a closed expression on her face. She dropped the bag at my feet and stood at the sink. "My uncle called me on the way here. He needs me to go to Seoul with him on business. I might be gone for a month." "If you have to go, you have to go." I looked up at Jae, my expression as Spartan as hers. Expressing a gentle pity was something she might've done if she hadn't just told me she would have to leave. I thought of telling her to just abandon me but she'd already told me. She couldn't be abandoning me. And 'in my time of need' was rich, considering Otaku City existed in a perpetual time warp of need. She sat down next to me and leaned against the cold tile. "I'm sorry about Gavin coming back." "Why are you sorry?" "You seemed like you weren't happy to see him." "Well he'd ignored me for so long and I'd spent so much time believing he'd simple died face down somewhere..." "It's fine. You don't have to explain anything to me now. I'll bring you something from Seoul. A new nightshirt for one." She smiled at me briefly and clasped my hand in hers. I held them up for a minute. Both were small. My flesh yellow compared to her peal colored white. Then she stood and shook her head. "Our plane leaves in two hours. I'll take a cab." I stood as well and we kissed. Then she left. Dressing myself on autopilot, I picked up the bag holding my dirty clothes and my purse, and stepped outside where a bored looking nurse and a cop were waiting for me.

The sun slipped down for the night, as Linnett's eyes continued staring into the gray and green growing darker. Her brother had gone back to civilization and left her in the comparative silence more than three weeks ago. Now her dreams changed with the oncoming night and became almost real to her. Moon and starlight flickered across her face, pouring over her high cheekbones, almost lingering on her mouth. Then the shadows took over again, and Linnett began to dream of her father. Dynn stood taller than Linnett when she was eight. He was irritated when she was brought before him with her bloodstained mouth and another member of his clan dead. Cold blood hadn't yet dried on her cheeks, streaked messily from where she had opened up her kinsman's chest to get as his heart. She looked up at him with amber colored eyes, too big for her face, the fangs not yet pulled back into her mouth completely. A single lash leather whip lay coiled on the patriarch's chair, while his second in command stood close by, sword still yet sheathed at his side. Linnett stared ahead, not at her father's eyes but at the symbol of the clan hanging on the wall behind him. Her brothers stood on either side of the oval chamber, the corpse of their cousin stretched out on the stone floor. Dynn leaned forward slightly, his right hand relaxed while his left clenched itself into a fist. "Why did you kill him?" "He said I was an abomination. It was rude of him. He didn't say sorry." At first it seemed all powers of speech had abandoned Dynn. Then his marble white face turned almost purple and he snatched up the whip and cracked it down across Linnett's shoulder, moving from left to right, then back again. Her elder brother, Kai did not move or speak a word against their father's punishment. Instead he flashed a look at his younger brother, and then both watched Linnett crumple up against the pain of her father's lash. The sixth lash struck Linnett's right cheek and opened up a cut, the blood slipping down her face, and into her mouth. As soon as the taste of her own blood washed across her tongue, Linnett's eyes swirled with inky blackness. Five seconds later, the bloodlust had taken her over entirely and she leapt mindlessly forward, fangs bared, claws fully extended. The second in command drew, and just as his sword had cleared its sheath, Linnett had grabbed him around his wrist with her small fingers, head thrown back, ready to take his arm off at the elbow. Dynn threw down his whip, gathered power, and spoke to his daughter with the Voice. Terrible and overwhelming, Kai and his brother both visibly blanched. The sound of their father's voice was the auditory equivalent of having their skin being slowly ripped off. Linnett's reaction was immediate and absolute. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she immediately released her victim's arm, curling up into a ball while her father berated her. "You dare to attack your own flesh and blood again? You stupid little bitch. Demanding an apology from your betters?!" He kicked her and was immediately granted the satisfaction of a small yelp, the sound of Linnett's distress. She didn't scream again. The Voice had almost completely paralyzed her. But then it stopped, as Kai caught his father's eye and made a small motion with his left hand. Dynn turned away from his cringing daughter and reached down for his whip. Picking it up, he loosely coiled it, speaking with his normal voice. First to his daughter, and then to his sons, his wishes ruling the movements of his clan with utter disregard and disdain. "You are an abomination. Never forget that." She watched his every move, from the way his fingers moved across the leather, to his footsteps back to his dais. Kai noticed her eyes taking on the hunted look for the first time since the entire punishment had begun. "You will take her to be cleaned. Then chain her to the bed this time. Do not let her escape again." Linnett threw her pale, slender arms around her brother's neck, her torn flesh slowly pulling itself back together. Her fangs had disappeared behind her lips and her eyes were once more the color of beaten gold. In the ice, Linnett remained as motionless as the moment the sleep had stolen upon her. The night was slowly giving way to the day once more, and the fingers of dawn were slowly creeping pink across the clouds. Nobody watched her, and nobody but her brothers knew she was there. It was an empty morning again.
