Actually the relationship between Merille and Kirika could be argued either way, one major arguement that it is a yuri is in
Kirika's letterto Mirille in I beleve episode 23.
but on the other hand, you can argue against it, pointing out
Mirille telling Kirika to avoid getting too close to others after that Czech guy is killed in the attempt on Kirika's life.
Either way though, I think that wether or not the two are like that is not important and really such things are not important considering the tone of the seires.
Originally posted by Gentle You can't set someone to a starter anime. Different people like different things and that's just how it goes. Noir wouldn't work at all since someone would probably be confused and hyper perky people just wouldn't be able to sit and watch it at all. Persons like romance, angst, horror, suspence, or maybe action and adventure. There's no real anime you can just sit in front of them and expect it to grow on them. But if there was, then I'd say maybe Sailor Moon, Tenchi Muyo, or DragonBall Z/GT. They're how some started themselves and easy to see and find.
Well, your right about the fact that you can't really choose a "starter" anime, as diffrent people have diffrent tastes. But on the other hand, using something like Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, or Tenchi might not be the best idea's themselves as you might not want to go with a series that is so full of anime steriotypes as that might only further drive in the idea that every show is like that. And about Noir being a yuri, well its hard to say. At times the show does hit at the possibleity of that but overall, it pretty much stays pretty neutral on that idea.

Anime Do you use anime/manga for school projects or assignments?
Gettles replied to Marron347's topic in Otaku Central
I guess you can say that I have, but only indirectly. A few times in my creative writing I've done a poem or something about a chacter from a anime, video game, or something of that sort.(Hell, I just finished two "Question of Strength" and "Question of Self" about Merille and Kirika from Noir.) But really thats about as much as I've ever done. -
I'm a big fan of Noir but I have to agree with Japan 86 in that it is not a good starter. The chacters are well thought out and the plot is good. The problem lies in the first 9 episodes which have some major problems with paceing. The series does pick up in a major way with the introduction of Chloe who also brings about the main plot of the show. But still I doubt that would be a good series for someone just getting into anime. And Babygirl, I would reccomend taht you give the next disc a try as those problems that you mentioned start to improove with less flashbacks and one of the best and most popular chacters in the series is introduced in that disc(Chloe in "The True Noir")

Anime The importance of being....(insert name here)
Gettles replied to duorocks17's topic in Otaku Central
I decided to go with the three on my banner as they are three of my favorite chacters 1. Chloe(Noir) "Your name of Chloe gives you a very idealistic but passive outlook on life. You appreciate music, drama, and the arts and could excel in these fields. You desire culture and all the comforts of life but you are inclined to daydream and not bring your ideas to fulfilment. Although you would like to do many things, procrastination undermines your accomplishment and success in life because of insecurity. You do not like to create issues and will do anything to avoid conflicts. Making decisions is difficult for you without the support and approval of others. This name gives you a very sensitive nature, making you feel much that you do not understand" That is only right in one place. Alexander(Hellsing)- "Your first name of Alexander makes you extremely generous. You have a bubbling, spontaneous nature and a happy-go-lucky outlook which helps smooth the pathway of life. Also you are sympathetic to the needs of others. Interested in art, music, singing, dancing, and anything of an artistic nature, you could become a very fine performer. Your spontaneous expression stands you in good stead during arguments or debates, though you are perhaps too outspoken and inclined to sarcasm. " Wow that was was not even close Vicious- "The name of Vicious has given you a strong desire for success and all the amenities of affluence. You pursue your undertakings on a grand scale, based on your business acumen and ability to visualize an overall plan. Your enthusiasm, aggressiveness, and salesmanship are often sufficient to bring about fulfillment of your ambitions. However, in the attempt to impress others with the scope of your success, you can over-extend your resources to the point that you have inadequate means to cover your basic expenses. There are times when you would be advised to start in a smaller way, and gradually reach your desired level of success through perseverance, patience, and attention to details. When things are going well, you have a generous, magnanimous nature, ready to offer support and assistance to others. " Uhh...I don't think so I guess I'll do a few others Ceres(Hellsing) "Your first name of Ceres has given you energy, drive, and ambition, but also an almost excessively strong-willed and independent nature. While you are creative, inventive, and ingenious in practical matters, and always ready to initiate and promote new undertakings, you often experience difficulty in bringing your undertakings to a successful conclusion because of your own changing interests or changing circumstances. " It kinda works Bruce(Batman) "Your name of Bruce has made you practical, systematic, and thorough. This name encourages the expression of leadership and organizational skills, shrewdness, and analytical ability. You are mathematically adept and have great patience with work of a detailed nature such as bookkeeping, accounting, or technical research. Particular about your material possessions, you keep everything you own in a good state of repair, and you budget your personal finances very carefully. Because of its matter-of-fact influence, this name limits, to some degree, your ability to be flexible and spontaneous. You tend to treat new and unfamiliar ideas with scepticism. Because of the serious, responsible qualities of your name, you must recognize the importance of a sense of humour and optimistic perspective of life" True in a few ways Altena(Noir) "Your first name of Altena has created a deep, sensitive, refined nature with an intelligent mind. As you are particularly clever along business lines, and have mathematical ability and a keen appreciation of material values, you are inclined towards the business world. You would do well in a managerial position, as you have executive ability and a poised manner able to take charge and see that procedures are followed. You appreciate the finer things of life and look for quality in your material possessions. Your sensitivity and rather reserved manner make it very difficult for people really to know you." Ok, this one is pertty close Kirika(Noir) "Your first name of Kirika has given you energy, drive, and ambition, but also an almost excessively strong-willed and independent nature. While you are creative, inventive, and ingenious in practical matters, and always ready to initiate and promote new undertakings, you often experience difficulty in bringing your undertakings to a successful conclusion because of your own changing interests or changing circumstances. " Wow, this is an exact oppiste I guess I'll finish off the Noir girls Mireille-Your name of Mireille gives you the ability to be creative along practical lines of endeavour. Your ideas can be very original and inventive. You enjoy being with people in a social environment. Your personal appearance is important to you, for you desire to make a good impression on others. Your pleasant manner attracts people to you with their problems and you are capable of offering practical advice, though you may not follow such advice yourself. This name causes you to be somewhat too concerned with the personalities, problems, and activities of other people. Correct in a few way, wrong a few ways too -
Originally posted by yotska I've never seen Noir, what is that anyway?
I might as well give a quick overview. Noir is pretty much an action/drama about a pair of assassions known as Noir. The two, Mireille Bouquet and Kirika Yuumura, meet up after a strange E-mail is sent to Mireille asking for her to meet up with Kirika. Mireille is reluctant to do so until a song starts playing, a song which holds a great deal of significance for her. Noir tells their story as the two serch to find meaning to their collective pasts. It is much better then I described it. The show has some excelent chacters and great fight sceans. Though it does have some pacing problems in the first few episodes. If you don't like serious shows with very little to no humor the you wont like Noir as it is in no way a comady.

I'd say its pretty much become a quickly growing sub-culture of it self. Shows such as DBZ, Pokemon, and Yu-gi-oh have moved into mainstreem youth culture and the market seems to be growing, to the point where it has had a undeniable influance of several amaerican made cartoons of recent years.

So many choices of chacters who I would not want to know in real life, much rather have to room with. I will just tell you the top three 1.ALexander Anderson(Hellsing)-I make a habit of avoiding those who are overly religous, much less those who are as violently passionit about there beleifs. Hearing him ramble on about the glory of God and how it could save a sinner like myslef would drive me insane. Add the fact he is competly insane and skilled with blades means it is someone I would never wish be roommates with. 2 and 3.Vicious(Cowboy Bebop) and Sylvia Gleone aka "Intoccabile"(Noir)-I put them together as both are for the same reisons. Both are heartless killers with no regard for human life who favor blades and are involved in orginized crime. All not qualities I would want in a room mate. I would probebly be cut up and never seen again within 24 hours.
-
I admit that I have a minimal about of knowledge of several of those choices(i.e. Slayers and Kenshen) but I'd say Noir. Overall I say its one of the best series I have seen, I love all the chacters(espically the three main ones Merrieille, Kirika, and Chloe), some great fight scenes and a compelling storyline.

By the strictist sense, Teen Titans is not anime(which in my defonition is animation from Japan) But really, I consider the show close enough. And really, if you like the show does I matter.

Anime Somebody's suing Cartoon Network (FLCL related)
Gettles replied to Senor Ding Dong's topic in Otaku Central
Look at some of the other articals on the page and then notice the all seem to be the same right-wing overly cristian parents. So this shouldn't be much a surprise. And to me it seems more like the woman wanted the rating of FLCL to be raised as it appered as "TV-PG" where she was. -
Yeah, I'd say that Big O pays tribute to the Batman anamated series in its style, thats about it. Besides Roger is closer to what you would get if you crosse ed Bruce Wayne with James Bond and gave him a giant robot with near infinate destrctive power
-
I've only seen what they have relesed on DVD(I think 23 episodes) and I do think this is a great series, I am sort of reminded of Cowboy Bebop with the whole feel of the show. I do Agree with AzureWolf that the repitition is used very well. It also has some great fight sceans and a good overall story. My personal favorite episodes are the Inttocobble episodes

Anime What's the longest you've gone without anime?
Gettles replied to Moor_Child's topic in Otaku Central
Well, the longist I've ever gone without watching anime would be over 16 years(but that is of corse time before I got into it and I doubt that counts.) So really the longist I've gone is probebly a few weeks. -
Ok, I've seen the seires several times and I think its one of the best series' I've ever seen. For the dubbing, I think its great and all the voices for the main chacters are perfect. As for the show it self, as it keeps going it becomes better. Also is will become less humorus as it goes on. What you've seen in ep 5 is hardly Trigun at its best. But now, the does start to come together, I reccomend you keep watching it. Also about the Nebraska family(the old guy and his "son") they are a very minor part of the series so don't really. I reccomend at least watching up to episode 12(Diablo) or 16(fifth moon) before judgeing the series.
