T-Shirts and Bumper Sticker Sayings
GreenEyedDragon replied to JC Goodwin's topic in General Discussion
well i would have to say that i do enjoy my shirt reading : (arrow pointing to the right) I'm with stupid but most people have a shirt of that sort, its not quite so funny. i also like my zoo t-shirt. It reads: The Dallas Zoo and has a blue stripe with cartoony tigers going across it. I like it because its a great shirt, and it has paint from my room on it, so i can just look at my shirt and think myself away from where-ever i am, and thats a nice trick to be able to do. I have another zoo shirt that once belonged to my sister, and it has a mom and baby panda on the front during the day, and on the back you see their backs and the moon is out. its purple and comfy...and i just like it. -
Charles de Lint is a fabulous writer, and his works are based on magic and 'fantasy', if you will. He writes about a circle of friends and their accquaintances, and about the city of Newford. Some of his books are just based on one of those things, and others aren't based on any of those things. A list of some of his books (there a many) to give you and idea of what i'm talking about: Vampires A Wizard's Dozen Spaceships and Spells Halflings, Hobbits, Warrows, and Wee Folk Forests of the Heart Dreams Underfoot The Dreaming Place Seven Wild Sisters Jack, the Giant-Killer Moonlight and Vines Svaha The Onion Girl Spirits in the Wires Hopefully some of those titles bring home the idea of modern fantasy. (i.e. Spaceships and Spells, or Spirits in the Wires) Now, this post is not to promote Charles de Lint in any way, but i would recommend those magic-intrigued on the forums to check him out. Mainly, i wanted to see if anybody else had discoverd this wealth of ideas and imagination provided to the public. If so, maybe we could start a discussion on some of his thoughts. If not, you could ask about it if your interested, and i can answer your questions. Also, i loaned The Onion Girl to a friend of mine (Terpishore) so if she joins the post i suppose you could question her as well. She seems to be enjoying the book very much though. Please ask even if you're not sure what i'm talking about, but also please read through any posts and responses as well, so that i don't have to repeat myself. ~Alex

*pats her hair down and takes the stage* well, it was either my 9th or 10th birthday party, and at this point my cats were outside cats (not anymore, long story) and so the first guests to arrice were ciara and jasmin, the twins. I was so excited and i wanted everyone to like my party, so --knowing that these two were partial to animals-- i decided to pick up our cat Piggy (used to be extremely shy of strangers) so that they could properly pet them. WELL, that didn't go over so well. He decided that he would climb up over my shoulder and then dig his claws into my chest so that he could propel himself off into the yard, only to disappear in the neighbor's bushes. Now, at this time i was quite the boob-less creature, so i wasn't very concerned about the three scars that later formed. My mom was though, and she got mad cuz i picked at the scars and stuff. SO, now i have these three scars going across my right boob. :therock:

Heaven's Cloud:
I definitely think that the president?s religious beliefs are affecting his judgment on this issue.
Heaven's Cloud:
I truly feel that Bush hides behind this act because Gay marriage undermines his Religious beliefs.
Okay, now, in no way am i trying to personally attack anybody for any references made in these quotes above, and the one below, but they are all referring to Bush's religion, which happens to be my religion. If this isn't a widespread fact, dear President Georgie Bush is indeed Episcopalian. *hush falls over the room* Due to recent developments in the Episcopalian church based on the ordination of a gay bishop, many people have gone anti-episcopalian. Sadly, this is getting out of hand, where people with little information hear one thing and decide what they want to believe...Many people in the episcopalian church, including myself have the opinion that is: 'Why does it matter what his sexuality is? He is already a cleric, a priest, and when you ordained him into the priesthood you were fully aware of his sexuality, so why the sudden change?'. Unfortunately that is most commonly met with 'Bishops have the most power in the episcopalian church..blah blah blah', which is true, but him being a priest and no change in his manner having occured, shows that there is nothing to 'worry' about in his becoming a priest, as if there ever was. The public now sees the episcopalian church as gay-bashers...which is totally unfair. I have even come across looks of shock when i say that i support homosexuals, because they're still people, and i could really go on and on, but that's not the point. This is all to show you that the Episcopalian religion in general may be portrayed as anti-gay, but every person has their own opinion. These general statements may not be meant to slash Episcopalians, but until i get the bible verse that says 'thou shalt not be homosexual' i'm not going to base any of my decisions on that subject on my religion, and we can only hope that Bush has enough sense in his skull to do the same, though it seems quite the contrary, doesn't it? Cloricus:
He bases most things on his religion from what I?ve seen; I'm personally of the opinion that religion has no place in the decisions of a nation that at a least pretends it accepts all people as "equals" because it puts a block on freedom of religion and everything else is restricted to a fundamentalists "closed" views.
This quote i completely agree with, although when it gets down the the fundamentalists bit you kind of lost me...but still, religion shouldn't be involved in politics in any way, not only does it distort the belief system of the religion, but it also conflicts with people of other religions than whomever may be speaking, or athiests, etc.

okay, now i mean tastes in foods, not clothing or people or friends, but some people have WEIRD tastes. Now, i am one of them, as far as other people are concerned...i just think i'm pretty normal, but okay, whatever. If you want to get simple, i eat green food, and mushrooms and tomatoes. I eat pickles and ketchup, mustard, relish and mayonaise. I eat jelly, and peppers...and a lot of other 'weird things'. But here are some of the not so everday: Peanut butter with assorted foods such as: oreos, celery, apples Ranch with pizza Ketchup with hashbrowns Tomatoes with salt Now, i'm not intending for this thread to become something pointless like "vegetarians are WEIRD" because they're not, they're just firm in their personal beliefs, so leave them out of this, okay? this is just a thread for people to see different tastes, and possibly suggestions for trying new things. So, what weird tastes do you have?

unforutnately, it seems once you read the first post, you don't read through the rest of the thread. I replied to a question of what a hardship was and also why i couldn't take public transportation in a later response to questions that provoked my explanation. i suppose you who don't read through threads won't even see this, but if you do, stop ignoring what has been said. Not only do repsonses get redundant, but questions that have been cleared up keep repeating....not to sound nit-picky, its just easier on people who are looking for important advice. I cannot stress how most of you do not understand, though. Please do not make a light matter of this. If you don't think you know what i'm going through, please do not reply.

personally, being in our marching/concert band isn't all that great, but maybe it's because i'm a freshman, and i'm treated like dirt. yesterday morning, our crazy band director had us listen to a peice with 14 variations.... ...it was thirty minutes long...

a hardship is a driver's license given to otherwise underage citizens that are in a, well, hardship. In my case, i have two working parents unable to get me to and back from school (due to late hours), and i'm unable to use public transportation due to the fact that i'm carrying a trombone-sized $10,000 instrument (bass clarinet, most people don't know what it is, so i gave you an example of its size) to and from school.

Okay, so recently i was talking with my parents at the dinner table about how i might possibly be able to get a hardship. The circumstances: my sister is going to be at college next year, and my brother has been accepted for a foreign exchange program in japan. Well, about a month ago, when the subject came up, my mom seemed to be sticking up for me (i.e. my father said i was too young, and my mom said that 14 was actually the youngest age that you can get a hardship) but apparently not, because the other night she was horrible. We got into a huge fight and all they seem to want to do is pay one of my friend's brothers to drive me to school, but he has other obligations, too! Plus, my sister is the one who grocery shops and cooks around here, so i could grocery shop, too. As if they have the time. My mom hired maids to clean our house because she hasn't the time for it, so where did all of this magical time to grocery shop come from?! Anyways, if you don't know how my family is, you may think i'm being immature because i didn't get what i wanted, when i wanted it, with full love and support--but if you think that, you're wrong. My parents are the type of people who were raised well enough to know not to beat a child, and they're both lawyers, so they know all of the consequences. but they really weren't meant to be parents. For example, one year i went to church camp and we were given time and stamps to write our parents (more required) and so i wrote my mother about how i wanted to change our relationship, to where we could be friends...not a dictator/slave sort of nice in public relationship...but i found it lying on our mail table opened when i got home, and she never did anything or mentioned it to me in any way. My father was a 1st captain in the marines, and he is use to having 'orders' followed to a tee, the second he announces them. He gets VERY angry if they're not. One time, my sister started to yell back at my mom, and he threw her against the wall. That is about the closest we've gotten to being beaten though...it was just scary. so tell me if you've had similar experiences, or just give me advice. right now, i'm not really speaking with them, without necessity...so just let me know what you think. well, it was a jerk...lucky me, so he decided we should just stay friends after he was done...but i bit him the first kiss, so in the end, he deserved it! :D

A question for the ladies: Chivalry
GreenEyedDragon replied to DeathBug's topic in General Discussion
okay, for starters, i'm a really-pld fashioned type of girl*(i.e. i would never ask out a guy, that's his job), and i've come to discover that there are lots of us. Keep that in mind. I think chivalry may be rare today, but that just makes it all the more sweeter. The only problem with it is if you're being really sweet to a girl who doesn't like you all that much. It drives them mad, because how can you not like someone who's so nice? When and if guys treat me with repsect and open doors for me, and pull out my seat, etc. i think its really sweet. I'm prone to blush or just have this massive grin on my face, because most of the time guys treat me like their little sister, so i'm another punching bag. Plus, you should listen to yourself on topics like this, where other people are telling you different, because these types of choices influence who you are, and nobody should change you but you. Hope i helped! -
Ghosts! GHOULS! GOBLINS!! Well, i supposed that would be the wrong season, eh? Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, and Jolly Holidays to all! As for me, i have one and a half weeks remaining to buy everybody's christmas presents... lazy as i am, i'm going to have to find a ride. Speaking of presents, the other day i was talking to my best friend and i asked what she wanted from me, and she said to me, i want more of those socks you gave to me for my birthday! (2-3 dollar socks from target, kind of a last minute thing). Now, this is the FIRST time i have EVER had anybody ask me for SOCKS for christmas...its seems purely absurd...but if thats what she wants, i suspect she'll be getting it....i have no problem with cheap! :D So, have you asked for anything bizarre, or have you had anybody request any strange gifts? Have you ever wished life was just plain simple?
GreenEyedDragon replied to GreenEyedDragon's topic in General Discussion
when i wrote all of this out, i wasn't aiming for it, but i realize that my topic has come into relation with the book "The Giver". If you have not read it, then just reply to my topic, and if you have, your thoughts on the book and the topic will be appreciated. -
For instance, what if anyone you chose automatically loved you? Unrealistic, i know, because what if two people wanted the same person to love them? SYSYEM BREAKDOWN! But what if? I mean, there could be a rule that if someone's taken, go pick someone else! They say there's someone out there for everybody, so-providing there's an even number of people-we could all just pick one, instead of all the hassle. Plus, if life were simple, we could all just not sleep--we wouldn't need it, life's too simple! No sleep, more time--for what i know not, but thats less stress right there....but wait, there's no stress, life's way too simple to worry! No homework, no anger, no anything.... but here it comes, if life were this simple-which seems to be what the world of today would prefer-would we really be human? I mean, if it were all so easy, would there be feelings? Would people actually LIVE? There's not a single person who hasn't cried in their life, so part of life is sadness, and part of it is anger. Part of life is joy, part of life is pain, and so on. And then there's death. Would this simple world have death? or would that be too complicated, and people would just live forever? And what about disease? Mental illness? Genetic defects? I would really like to know what people think, because i'm sure there are a lot of great opinions out there, and i was curious to know what people thought. I mean, what would our world be without all the bad stuff too? Just think about it, i guess, and hopefully respond... ~Alex
