I don't care for Evanescence one bit. Amy Lee's voice just bothers me. Hokay. There is no way that Evanesence is goth. At all. It dosn't matter how they look. Or how depressing they think they are. Listen to "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus then compare it to any Evanescence song. Oh, and, not to rock the boat or anything, neither Nightwish nor Lacuna Coil is goth.
Joy Division-- Closer A band that was extremely ahead of it's time, and sadly not ever fully recognized (at least not to the extent I think they should have) for their great music. This album probably has the best and most sadly moving final songs, leaving you sad that it was truely their "closer" (hmmm?).
I absolutely agree with this. Joy Division is one of those must listen to bands. I think they weren't fully recognised because Ian Curtis died in the 80's. Although they're not big on the mainstream, they're huge in the underground goth rock circle.
I like gothic Alternative music like Nightwish, Within Temptation, Apocalyptica, My chemical Romance, Papa Roach, etc
No no no. Stop right there. Since everyone is bitching about what metal is and isn't. I think I have a right to ***** about what "gothic" music is and isn't. None of the music on your list is gothic or, goth rock. Nowhere near it. Goth rock is music like Bauhaus, The Cure (Disintagration/Pornography), Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Creatures, The Damned, Joy Division, Rosetta Stone... Listen to My Chemical Romance and compare it to Bauhaus. Gawsh. >_<

Weird Things Seen on the Way Home from...
instantramen14 replied to Tatsubei Yagyu's topic in General Discussion
One my way home (San Francisco area) from San Diego, I saw a crossing sign on the highway depicting a family of 3 running hand-in-hand. It ain't in my DMV handbook, either. I stand by the theory that it's a "immigrant crossing over border" sign. And if you find what I said offensive, then you probably haven't seen the sign.
I've seen that sign. It's around the Camp Penelton area, right? Hm. The weirdest thing I have ever seen on my way home from school would be a hearse at the carwash. Now, it wasn't a hearse for a funeral home or anything. It was someone's private hearse. It had a bunch of fake bones on the dashboard and a plastic bat hanging from the rearview mirror. I was lucky and I had a disposable camera, so I took a picture of it. I still need to get those pictures developed though... Heh. -
It depends on what I'm getting "pumped" for. If it's a punk consert, it'll be stuff like The Dead Kennedys and the Germs. For going to the goth club, it'll be Sex gang children and Christian Death. And strangely enough, Blood Brother's "Pink tarantuala" gives me lots of energy to just run around and do stuff.
I don't know about Lolita Izumi, but I often get asked if I'm in a play or some other sort of event ^^; people only look at me strange when I tell them I'm not and I dressed that way just because *laughs* Questions come usually every time I go out ^^;;; There's also Hot Topic, if there's one near you. I don't particularly like to shop there (clothes are often over priced and poor quality and tend to fall apart after a month or so), but things can be purchased from them and mangled (lace or other things added). I, personally, wouldn't buy anything from them unless it was on sale though. I hope that helps XD;
Hahaha. I have a really nice squaredancing petticoat I got at the swap meet. Sometimes I'll have "EGL Days" and go in my petticoat and a nice blouse and my parasol and my hair up in little ringlets. I have been asked "are you in a play?" so many times. Earlier in the year, the choral group did the musical "Scrooge" and I got asked if I was in it so many times. Tee hee. I too, do not reccomend hot topic. I have never really bought anything besides band shirts and fishnets from there. (Even their band shirts arent very good. I had a nice bauhaus one with peter murphy[their lead singer] on it in a deep lovely red. I washed it once and it faded to an ugly wishy washey pinkish red colour!) All I've heard about hot topic though is that the clothing are very low quality. I suggest digging around thrift stores and swap meets/flea markets and garage sales. I have gotten so many good things. I got adorable wingtip mary janes from the swap meet along with my petticoat. And then I have all sorts of cute little lacey floofy blouses and such. Second hand is your friend! So is making things from scratch. I have some nice bloomers that I made, I wear them all the time. (Right now, in fact!) EGL is fun.

Here's the website for the bloomers. basic bloomers The directions are pretty straight forward. I suggest you do a mock-up in some crap fabric first though. I botched the inital mock up one, but did well for the final product. -

I rarely use patterns. Actually, I think I've only used a store-bought pattern once or twice. Usually I draft my patterns from directions off the internet. I made these bloomers from a pattern I drafted from directions off the internet. They're really comfortable. I usually wear them under skirts and sometimes on their own. I like to sleep in them too. I should make another pair. They were pretty easy to make. The tie skirt of doom. I started it right after my old sewing machine broke. I finished it about a week before my dad got me a new one. It took a couple of days, but only because of the hand-sewing. With a machine I could have done it in two hours. This is my pink tulle skirt. I salvaged it off a really ugly dress. The bodice was horrible, it had all sorts of sparkley things all over it. Absolutely horrid. So I cut off the skirt and used blanket binding to make a new waistband. Action shot! Again, pardon my messy room. I'm right in the middle of spring cleaning. (With six hours of spring left.) heh. -
Oooo, fun. If I were an action figure/doll thing, I would be called Instantramen14: Deathrock girl. IR14: DRG would come with a Siouxsie and the Banshees T-shirt and black and white stripe-ey asymetrical skirt and ripped fishnets. She'd have big stompy "steel toe" combat boots and a black leather jacket with pins from various deathrock/gothrock bands(Siouxsie, Rozz Williams, 45 Grave, The Damned, The Cure, Bauhaus...) and studs all over it. She would have red-ish purple hair (like wine coloured) that you could make all big and Robert Smith-esque or, just leave down or in a ponytail. IR14: DRG would have lots of accessories. She'd have an ammo box-purse, and a tiny cd player with a mini copy of Christian Death's "Only Theatre of Pain" She would also have a copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula and a tiny journal. IR14: DRG would have several different accessory sets. 1. The "I'm in a deathrock band" set would have a little faux leather corset, a ripped fishnet shirt and a tattered black skirt. The set would include a microphone and mic stand, a theremin and an electric violin. (Other band-mates and their instruments sold seaperatly) 2. The "Night at the club" set would have a stripey underbust corset, a lace-ey tank top and a taterd skirt of floatey material. It would come with cute witch boots and a mini copy of the Cure's Disintagration. 3. The "Out for a night of fun" set would have a top hat, tail coat, Bauhaus "Bela Lugosi's Dead" shirt, black bondage trousers, black and white check creepers, walking cane, stripey socks and five ring bondage belt with lots of chains. There would be a little video camera for recording the night's happenings/taking pictures at the cemetary. There would also be a little black "vintage" vespa. (Stickers included in set for customizing the scooter) Each set would come with a nice little mix cd of good deathrock and goth rock bands to listen to while you pretend IR14: DRG is playing Sex Gang Children's "Sebastiane" on the violin. I think I have put way too much thought into this. Heh.

Baron: Thank you. ^_^ Revue: The fabric had sparkely things on it already. It was from the Jo-ann's halloween collection thing. The fabric stays down pretty well without trim. It's been a working parasol since october, I love it too dearly to sell. But I might start making them and selling them. They're quite simple to make. My lovely duct tape tote bag. I used it for school. It's a regular tote bag (free from payless shoes) covered in duct tape. Lots of duct tape. -
I'm not entirely sure that this goes here, but it seems to fit. One of my favorite things to do is sew and fix up old thrift store finds. I love to DIY. I think it can be considered an art. It takes creativity, expecially when you design your own stuff. It takes time and it takes talent/skill. First up, we have the spiderweb parasol. Pretty much all hand made, except for the thrift-store umbrella frame. Next, the stripey over skirt. I just finished this yesterday for a trip to the club. It was a part of an ugly stripe-ey polkadot-ey dress. Very unflattering design. The skirt part was still nice though, so I used it. (Pardon my messy room :animeswea) That's all I have uploaded to my computer right now. Mabey I'll post more later.

I mainly listen to punk, deathrock/goth rock. (And some ska. Spanish and english) I also like stuff like The Pixies, Tori Amos, Bjork, Placebo, The B-52's and Bright Eyes. Usually, when I tell people my favorite bands, they look at me confused and say "Who?" Right now, my top 5 favorite bands (in no particular order) 1. Sex Gang Children 2. Rozz era Christian Death 3. Oingo Boingo 4. The Damned 5. The Dead Kennedys. I am also terribly fond of The Virgin Prunes, Joy Division, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Sisters of Mercy, 45 Grave, The Cure, AFI, Agent Orange, The Dresden Dolls, Catch 22, Echo and the Bunnymen, Clit 45, The Misfits, Narcoleptic Youth... I could go on forever. But chances are, most of you haven't even heard of half the bands I've listed. heh. I like almost anything with guitar/drum/bass. Except for most metal/hardcore. Sure, I'll listen to the occosional Blood Brothers, Atreyu or Avenged Sevenfold song, but that's pretty much all I can take. I can only take so much screaming into the microphone. I guess I have a weird taste in music.

The best show I've ever been to was D.I. and a bunch of local punk bands. So awesome. So much energy through all the sets. These guys knew how to work the crowd. My god. They were throwing stickers and junk at us, stage diving, inviting people to go up and sing with them, all that nifty stuff. The main thing that I remember from that show was the pit. The pit was awesome for the entire show. But when it came up to D.I., the headliner, my god. Practically everyone got into the pit, including me. When I took a break and went up to the balcony, you couldn't see any floor. At all. It was just a swirling mass of punks. After I saw that, I went back down and into the pit. I enjoyed it until some stage diver landed on my head. Ouchies.

5 Most under rated and over rated bands or artists
instantramen14 replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Noosphere
Over Rated The Sisters of Mercy To me, The Sisters of Mercy is the quintisential gothic band and yet you come across very few people who know who they are. Andrew Eldritch has that deep hollow monotonous voice that's so key to a good dark and eerie song. Not to mention how incredibly danceable they are ^_^
I know who they are! I also have to agree with you on how every little over-eyelinerd-hottopic baggy bongage pant-bandshirted spookeh kid thinks that Evanescence, Blink-182, Good Charlotte etc. are the greatest things since sliced bread. I can't even tell the difference between Good Charlotte, Simple Plan and Sum-41 for goodness sakes. Now for underrated bands. 45 Grave. Deathrock at its finest. Dinah Cancer is a great vocalist. Unfortunately they broke up in the early 90's due to the death of their guitarist. Dinah has done alot of other projects though, so its all good. Siouxsie and the banshees. Another band where most people have no clue who they are. Great lyrics, Siouxsie is an awesome singer. They broke up too, but Siouxsie has a side project thing with her husband and former drummer of the Banshees, Budgie. And finally, The Dresden Dolls. They are absolutely brilliant. One wouldn't think piano, drum and vocals would sound good togheter, but they do. Their songs vary in styles from the fast-tempo Girl Anachronism to the absolutely erie Missed Me. My goodness, they are such a good band to listen to. All of my friends who I've lent my cd to have absolutely loved them. -
@Morpheus: I must say that whole 'burning us in public buildings' is still a bit dodgy ;) Courtship is the correct answer, though I suppose relationship could be as well. My riddle: Svetlak ordered a fishing rod, priced at $3.56. Unfortunately, Svetlak is an Eskimo who lives in a very remote part of Greenland and the import rules there forbid any package longer than 4 feet to be imported. The fishing rod was 4 feet and 1 inch, just a little too long, so how can the fishing rod be mailed to Svetlak without breaking the rules? Ideally Svetlak would like the fishing rod to arrive in one piece!
He put it in a box shorter than four feet but wide at the base. He put it in at an angle so it would be less than four feet long.

These two go directly with each other. My first is third like the sound of the sea My second's the center of you not me My third is the end of him but not you My fourth starts a picture, not a view My fifth is in bean, though not in been My sixth and seventh start seldom seen. Sunrise, sunset, warmth and cold, put them together and a sign will unfold. The strangest thing you've ever heard A point that makes a noisy word the other three make pleas so let me start you out with 'teas'

Courtship? What runs but dosen't walk, has a bed but dosen't sleep, has a mouth but never talks?

It was during the day. Here's mine "I am in rock but not in stone I'm in marrow but not in bone I'm in bloster, not in bed. I'm not living I'm not dead. What am I?

Saikano. The entire thing. It is one of the most depressing animes ever. Why?
Because the entire thing is about love that was doomed.
There is so much angst in the entire series.
Everybody dies! For goodness sake, if that's not depressing, I don't know what is.
I watched it in anime club, so I did my best to not cry. But through the entire thing, I was close to tears.

I am a euro-mutt. I am part Scandinavian (No clue what country exactly), German, French, Irish and English. I look pretty scandinavian, fair skin, blue-grey eyes and blonde-ish hair. My family hasn't really educated me much on our family's heritage. Except for St. Patrics day where we cook corned beef, cabbage and potatoes. I wear green and I can proudy say "Kiss me, I'm Irish!" lol. I also vaguely remember my grandmother knitting hats with traditional scandinavian patterns on them. They were awesome.

I collect teacups. It all started when I was eight or so and I was at this shop in Balboa called, "Teddy Bears and Tea Cups." I saw this cute little tea cup. It was whate with a rose on it. I bought it with my allowence money. It was twelve dollars. After that, people just started to give me tea cups. My favorite one is the one that I got in England. It has red and yellow roses covering it. Right now I have eight and two tea pots and a mini doll tea set. I need to go get some more. Other things I don't "collect" but I "accumulate." I have all sorts of horsey stuff. Several bryer model horses, a horse painted on a rock, a coaster or two, tall boots, paddock boots, breeches, helmet and helmet cover, half-chaps, a saddle pad, a ceramic horse, a ceramic horse box, ribbons and trophies from shows, a chinese brush painting of a horse and many many books and magazines. Another "collection" of mine is magazines. I have just about every Horse Illustrated or Young Rider since 1998. Every. Single. One. I also have quite a number of Seventeen magazines too. Lots of Pointe magazine and a few Newtypes. I also have lots of books. I have a couple of shelf-fulls. I have lots of violin music/violin stuff too. I have a box full of all of the books/sheet music I have used over the past five years. I have a bunch of spare parts too. I've got two mini violins and a violin business card holder. (And a violin of course. lol.) I just accumulate alot of crap. I have problems throwing things away.

Five favorite bands? (In no particular order) Siouxsie and the Banshees- Gothic Rock/Punk/Post-punk I love their songs and I enjoy singing along to them (in the shower lol.). Some of their songs are bouncy and fun("Hong Kong Garden") and others a very mysterious-sounding("Christine"). I listen to Siouxsie when I need to relax. Their lyrics usually don't have a meaning, although "Cities in the Dust" can be interperted as being about the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Favorite Siouxsie Songs: "Happy House" "Hong Kong Garden" "Christine" "Cities In the Dust" "Peek-A-Boo" Operation Ivy- "Skunk"(Ska-punk)/Punk Their songs are bouncy and catchy, another band I love to sing along to in the shower. This band makes me want to get up and dance. It's quite a pity that they broke up before I was born as this is one of those bands that would have been freaking awesome to see live. Their lyrics are incredible, they are so true. A good majority of the lyrics are about unity. "Try to describe to the limit of my abality:/It's there for a second/then it's given up what it used to be./Contained in music somehow more than just sound,/this inspiration coming and twisting things around/Because you always know that it's going to have to go./You always know that you'll be back in the cold./Point of departure sublimated in a song/It's always coming and giving us hope for just a second then it's gone, but!/Sound system gonna bring me back up/One thing that I can depend on..." - Operation Ivy: "Sound System" I am a total sucker for a strong bass line and OpIvy has several songs with awesome bass lines like "Jaded", "Officer" and "The Crowd". (Esp. "The Crowd"
