Hmm... Now that we're in 2007 I can safely go back and say what I think was the best titles of 2006 on all platforms I play on. Xbox 360- Plain and simple..Gears of Wa---No. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Sure, Gears of War made many technological leaps and bounds and had many new innovations but Oblivion just had so much more to do and see. I've easily spent more than 300 hours on just one single character and still find stuff to do. I love Oblivion. Playstation Portable- Tekken: Dark Resurrection. Easy, really. Looked great, played like Tekken and was portable. So not only could I whoop you while on the go I could take Lee anywhere and whoop you too. And you and you and you over there. Gameboy Advance- Super Robot Wars: Original Generation 1 & 2. Man, was this game amazing! I saw it on store shelves a while back and thought; 'Hmmm? SRW in America? Since when?' Bought it right then and there. Enjoyed it for the few months it was out and here comes the second one. Also amazing. Tactical battles with giant mechs. Great story, neat little Fire Emblem-esque scenes. Just good. Nintendo DS- Final Fantasy 3. How could you not see this one coming? A do-over of the old school version. Class changes, awesome cliche story. Again; just good. Playstation 2- God Hand. This game is just plain ridiculous. It's hilarious, fun, challenging and has a unique visual style. The fighting is fast and furious. Did I mention that it was hard as hell?
The average consumer doesn't buy from EB (see: Best Buy, Walmart), gamers and gamer's mums buy from EB. Also the PS3 doesn't have full support for its entire retro library to begin with (it has issues with a lot of games, but they're mainly **** so you'll be right, huh?). Finally, here's a tip: working at EB doesn't make you the authority on HD-movies and console sales, it makes you an employee of EB where people happen to ask about PS3s and BluRay (I like how you didn't explicitly say they're BUYING PS3s). Try not to get the two concepts mixed up next time, kay?[/color']
Yeah, yeah. I didn't say they were buying them because I thought you were smart enough to know that it's damn hard to buy anyway because there isn't that many out there to begin with. So sorry o' holy one. Of course working at EB Games doesn't make me the authority on HD movies and Blu-Ray but because the store is in a mall and the PS3 plays Blu-Ray and the Xbox 360 has an HD DVD add-on and because the 'average consumer' goes to the mall on a regular basis, see's my store and must think; 'Well, he must know about it.', it does in fact make me the 'authority' in their eyes. Although this time I'm in the wrong for not saying it was located in the mall where 'average consumers' buy from. (see: Old Navy, Sears, Verizon and, oh yeah, EB Games.)
You're talking about optional add ons with the system versus the system by itself. It doesn't work that way, chump. You can still enjoy an XBox 360 in all its gaming capacity without ever buying a HD-DVD player, the PS3 is $600 base, largely because because of a Blu Ray drive that is losing Sony money to produce and is having an extraordinarily hard time getting support from HD movie enthusiasts. $600 versus $400 with the later option of getting a HD-DVD player? You might not see it because you're a Sony fanboy, but the average consumer's gonna go for the $400 and will not give a **** about Sony's amazing bluray drive. As for the Wii argument... So? PS3 has a ****load of issues regarding HD tvs, so that will call for a whole new TV for some (at this point in time, at least), you have to pay to get old PS games off Sony's marketplace anyway, and to top it off, retro gaming on the PS3 looks like **** (checkit). Take the wool from your eyes for a minute and look at things in perspective - it's an expensive, powerful console, with a lot of potential, but it is by no means the best and its prohibitive price is just the start of its problems.
Man, I never said it was the best and I'm no Sony fanboy. Charlie can vouch for that through all his di.fm bashing this week. Anyway, chump, let's not mince my words here. This goes for all of you. While I never specified, I never said that you MUST buy the wireless headset for the Xbox 360. I never said you MUST buy the HD-DVD player for the Xbox 360. I merely said that to experience it at it's COMPLETE- FULLEST, note that I did say complete- fullest not gaming-fullest, You would have to shell out as much as the PS3. Lets scroll back up to make sure thats what was intended...annnnnnnnd...yes. Now, I'm not sure where you work but I work at EB Games and there isn't a day that goes by without someone coming in and asking about the HD-DVD player or someone coming in and touting the Blu-Ray and these are folks that look like 'average consumers' to me. Oh, whats this? Do 'average consumers' come into my store and ask about the PS3? Why, yes di.fm, they do! And what do they do when I tell them we have 360's available? They say; 'No! We want the PS3!' Go to hell on the 'average consumer' thing because the 'average consumer' doesn't even want to pay $400 for a gaming console. Let's head back to the retro-gaming thing for a minute, but lets avoid Nintendo for now because it seems they've been granted immunity this time around because they have done damn well. Abooouuuutt how many Xbox 360 games are backwards compatible? Like 300-ish compared to it's 500-ish library? Something along those lines, correct? Yeah. How many of them are utter crap? A good portion? Yeah. At least, if in low-quality, the PS3 can play ALL games from PS1 and PS2. Yeah, yeah. Say what you will about quality control , but not being able to play ALL my 360 games right off the bat and without a hard-drive is pretty 'low-quality to me. Anyway, I'm done for the night I've said what I've needed to say so bring on the fire-works, sir. I know that sharp tongue is going to start lashing. You too, Charlie cause I know you're gonna jump in there somewhere.

I'll never lose faith in Sony. Ever. Love the company. Always have. Then again, I'm pro-game. Who cares if the system costs $600? Its not the first time I've payed $600 for a system and it certainly won't be the last. Think about it. Now, I know some of you may not be Xbox fans either but lets put it into perspective. The PS3 costs $600, correct? Correct. How much does the high-end Xbox 360 cost? $400? Yes. Howa bout the HD DVD player? $250. Boom. You've just payed more for an Xbox 360 than you would've if you bought a PS3. Not to mention paying for Xbox Live if that's your cup of Joe. Howa bout the wireless headset? $60. See what I'm saying here? So what if the PS3 costs $600 out of the gate? You're gonna pay that much if you're gonna enjoy the Xbox to its fullest. Even the Wii isn't safe from the grasp of moeny conflicts. $250 for the system, then maybe $40 for some good HD cable. $60 a pop for the whole controller setup. Wii points for the downloadable games. (And I know many of you younger gamers will be all over the retro games so you can see what we, the older crowd, played back when.) The fact remains; games cost money. You need to spend money to enjoy your games. Its a fact. Its always going to be like that so all I can say is suck it up and stop bashing Sony for being so blunt with their pricing. (Among other things, but all systems have defects.) If anything I applaud Sony for slapping that $600 sticker on the system. At least they're not slapping us in the faces like Xbox and Nintendo with hidden 'fees'

So, the other day after playing some Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation vs. Zeon (Love it.) I started digging through a stack of un-kempt Playstation games. (Mind you, in my older years I've grown accustomed to treating my games like children.) Anyway, I was diggin' though the stack, and being a big robot fan, I found the title. Thats right. The title. Gundam Battle Assault 2! I popped it in. Within minutes of choosing my robot, it being Burning Gundam because of the limited choices, I started brawling away and too my suprise I found I remembered most, if not all of the standard moves and with a bit more play-time I even quickly re-learned the specials. It was really quite fun going back and playing some old-school-ish fighters. That night I also played some Rival Schools which is one of my favorite fighting games of all time, which came out waaaaay back in '98. Thats too far back for some of you younguns.

To clear up any pre-conceptions of this game; It is NOT a card-based game. It IS a stealth-action game like all other Metal Gears, sans for AC!D of course. The game takes place 6 years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater with Snake finding himself on yet another mission but not with the CIA. Then who? Well, thats for me to know and you to find out. The gameplay is where this game is at. I honestly didn't think it could be done on such a limited system but Konami sure told me. Everything that is Metal Gear is in this game. You name it, its there. First-person shooting? Yes. Cardboard box? Yes. Grapples? Yes. Multitude of weaponry? Yes. Trust me. If you've played Metal Gear in the last decade this installment will make you feel right as rain. Another new, though welcome, addition is the recruiting aspect. Knocking soldiers out and dragging them back to your truck to recruit them to your cause, or going to Access points around the world and downloading new soldiers via Wi-Fi, trading back and forth with a friend. Its amazing. Make all the Pokemon cracks you want, but this is alot better. Trust me. Even special characters make an appearance like Para-Medic, Sigint, and the ever so popular Raikov. You can even recruit boss characters to your cause by fullfilling special conditions in battle or throughout the game. Keep an eye open. The graphics, while not as good as Tekken, are good in their own Metal Gear right. I mean, there isn't much to say about the graphics really. They're clean, with nice textures and great character models. If you've played Metal Gear Solid 3 then you'll know what I'm talking about. Its' nearly identical in look just on a smaller screen. The gorgeous cut-scenes have been replaced by gorgeous comic-book style cut-scenes that convey the same message and impact that a digitally rendered cast would. Trust me. It seems dumb on paper, but when you see it at work you realize it's like watching a regular ol' Metal Gear cut-scene. If there is one game that you gotta have this Christmas for the PSP then look no further than Metal Gear: Portable Ops. Honestly.

King Of Fighters is by far, hands down, easily the best in 2-D fighters. Utilizing the then powerful Neo Geo it was clear why you had to pay $600 dollars to have superior gaming in your home or have to go to an Arcade to play. Longer games, more beautiful looking games, and just plain btter games. That includes KOF. To me KOF makes Street Fighter look like a button mashers dream. I feel that KOF is a bit more technical, if you can even call a 2-D fighter technical. The character line-up was always a bit more realistic and they always looked a bit better too. Terry, Iori, K', Kyo, and so on so forth. I'm an SNK fan for life because I grew up playing the Neo Geo and I'd take any SNK fighter over a Capcom fighter any day. But at the end of the day, all argues aside, it all comes down to; Are you a Capcom fan or an SNK fan?

Who has the coolest song on their Myspace profile?
MySpace If you laugh at this and know where it's from, i will love you forever. It sorta fits my personality as i'm kinda a strange/funny guy. Eh, usually anyways, i've been feeling pretty down lately because of school and whatev, but that's besides the point. Besides, if you can't rock out to the sanford and sons theme then you really can't rock out to anything, can ya? =D
Well now, sir. Smoking makes you look rad. Don't quit. ...and since I'm dangerous and I like to live life on the edge I'll tell you what you gotta do to keep your parents on your side. Bring a friend over. A friend that smokes will make this easier. Then go ahead and smoke in the house when your parents are out. Blame it on the smoker friend. Your parents won't suspect you at all because the blame is on your friend who clearly smokes. Done and done. Now all you gotta do from here on out is tell your parents to stay out of your business if they suspect you smoke. Tell them you're your own person and they can suck it. They'll just think you're growing up and are afriad of life on your own, so when they do find out you've been smoking they'll just attribute that to a life lesson. You're in the clear. Smoke till your lungs explode.

Who has the coolest song on their Myspace profile?

I like to think of myself as a benevolent soul so when a band sends me a friend request I actually go and check them out, rather than deny them or just accept them for numbers. The latest band to send me a friend request is Edges of Seven, some rad band from Canada. (Wow, something good came outta Canada afterall.) Since I like them so much, not only will I buy their CD (I support the music industry. Down with piracy.), I've put one of their songs on my MySpace. 'I Hide' by Edges of Seven. Oh, and it's more rad than your song. www.myspace.com/joefett -
It all depends on if what I do in the past affects the future. I'm assumming it would but if it didn't I'd take automatic rifles back to the Revolutionary War days and see what happens to them Brits then! But on a serious note, I'd really like to check out the 1970s. My mom and my dad lived through those years and alot of things happened in the 70s. If you think about it, it was kinda the dawn of modern culture. Videogames, fashion trends and so on so forth. Of course I would take plenty of clothes so I wouldn't have to look like a dork.

From my point of view I wanna clear something up. Cliffy B. Unreal. Was there an outstanding story in any of those? Maybe some weak plot in Unreal and Unreal II but in the Tournaments' it was; 'A game where you kill eachother. Hop to.' Now I wanna talk about the multi-player component since everyone has touched up on the game in general. Multi-player is broken. It's busted. It's simply....terrible. No offense. When I think multi-player I think; 'Options, Options, Options!' but Gears Of War has almost no options. No clans, only three gametypes, and a handful of maps in which only a few are any good. The gameplay while in multi-player seems a bit broken too. Why is it, in the famous words of Charlie, am I ''sucked into the chainsaw' when I've clearly gotten away? Why, when I shoot some guy who has the chainsaw up and revved, somehow manages to get me anyway? There should be a window of oppurtunity where you can kick your attacker away and suffer major damage rather than default fatal damage. A few other things that really irked me about the multi-player is the grenade stick. Where you run up on someone and use the melee attack with the grenade and then you roll away and watch him get his head blown off. Why can't I shake it off somehow? Same with the Torque Bow. Why can Skips McGee over yonder nail my head off while I'm behind cover? Why can't I duck? Why is there a limit of 8 players a game? You see what I'm saying here? Sure the multi-player is novelty for a while but when there are plenty of other games out there that make Gears' multi-player look like pud (insert Rainbow Six Vegas) why not play them instead? And for the record, I am playing them instead. (Insert Rainbow Six Vegas again)

Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread

"Silpheed Pilot sky rockets the quality of OB" (That would be me for all you new members.) MAMA? No way. It was me. I ran that show ['that show' being my uprising] and I called out the biggest names there were to call out. MAMA's cause might've been 'secret' and people may have got a laugh out of it but at least my rant actually impacted the OB and since then I've see all kinds of change and re-form. New staff, better discipline and so on so forth. Who cares if I had to go through torture from moderators and people just looking for a flame but at least I ruled enough to get things stirred up; even if it really wasn't my cause to begin with. If you think about it, not only did I save the boards from Armageddon I was more or less a Site Director. I'm pretty sure you all remember that little rant I spewed out but admit it; I rule and the boards have changed since then. Go me. -
O.o Where will you hide, when the zombies attack?
silpheedpilot replied to YoukaiAlchemist's topic in General Discussion
Lets think back to all the zombie movies out there..Who lives? No one. Your chances of hiding and waiting for zombies to, uh, 'die out' is impossible. They'll find you and they will eat you. They would find me and they would eat me and then I would find the next you and eat you. Its the circle of life and it's just the way things go. Sorry. But what DeadSeraphim said was pretty crazy so maybe Zombies don't sound so bad compared to what he has in store for us. Lets not hope for either. -
Ah...The Wii. Greatest invention since...toothpicks! Anyway, down to business. Wii Sports knocked me off my feet with it's awesomeness. I'm serious, I was floored at how responsive each game was and how rediculously easy they were to pick up and play. A personal favorite being the golf, what with the gauge of how hard you hit it and the putting and what not. The other games dazzled me too, like the bowling game. The way the pins are knocked over and how you have to adjust for spin and how the ball really does go faster the harder you swing the Wiimote around. Ah, I love it. Honestly, I think I MAY...MAY like the Wii more than the 360. Only time will tell.

Yeah, over here in Kansas we started getting people in line on Wednesday afternoon. I know thats not as bad as some places but man is it cold out here. Tents, space heaters, chairs. Its all good fun...sorta. I stayed out in the tent with my friend Jake on PS3 Wait Day 1 all night and there was an ongoing feud with us at Target and the folks down the way at Best Buy. It got so bad towards the middle of the night the cops came and arrested people for vandalism, assault, battery, so on so forth. The best part? It was all over the numbers each store was getting. 'Yeaaahh...Best Buy is getting 26.' 'Oh yeah? We're getting like 30 or somethin' 'Whatever dude.' 'No! Whatever you!' And then they fight. Seriously, that was about the jist of it all.

This game is probably one of the coolest, quirkiest brawlers to come around since, heck, Double Dragon. Now, most of you have probably seen the reviews for this game and went; 'Eh. If they say it's mediocre, its probably pretty mediocre.' but you can't hate a game with pseudo-surf music, GREAT fighting mechanics and animations and pretty slick graphics sans for the boring backgrounds. The story is pretty cookie-cutter but funny all around. Gene, the main character, is a crack-up. He's got the witty sayings and the female companion who is always getting him into trouble. The voiceacting isn't terrible but it isn't good and I'm sure the developers wanted it to be that way. The main baddies of the game are all of cliche variety but the good thing about it is that the developer wanted them all that way. The game is merely poking fun at the brawler genre while being dang good at it. This game is all about doling out as much pain to the enemy as possible in numerous funny and serious looking ways from kicking them in the groin to upper-cutting them into the stratosphere, oh but don't worry, they can do it to you too and they will. The camera is always to your back and you use the square button to fight with your multitude of combos that are all customizable and when I mean customizable I mean it. You can string together ANY punch or kick you've bought or found, it's really cool. That's another thing that caught my attention of this game; It's REALLY difficult and I like that. Games nowadays are just too darn easy but God Hand easily takes the cake as one of the harder games out there. Its hard because the enemy does so much damage per hit, there are usually numerous enemies around, and health items are sometimes scarce. Just makes things difficult, but still fun nonetheless. If you're into hard but satisfying action martial-art brawler type games then certainly pick this game up or rent it. It's difficult, looks good, plays good and is definately nothing you've ever played before.

Ooooooh man. One of the funniest songs I've ever heard is Dynomite by Ima Robot, lyrics are as followed but in spoiler tags if you're easily offended. Dynomite
Here's a story for the kids! This old man He come a lot It?s in your hair And I don?t care I?m not all right I?m not all right It?s in your hair No, I want to wait for someone like you This old girl She plays tricks It takes my sex To get her fix. She?s not all right She?s not all right She?s not all mine No, I want to wait for someone like you No, I want to wait for someone like you To make my life so dynamite Ah ah ah ah ah ah Turn this dark life into light Ah ah ah ah ah ah Make my world so shiny bright Ah ah ah ah ah ah You got me burning both ways Ima explode! This old man He just died He blew his head with dynamite He?s not all right No, he?s not all right It?s dynamite! No, I want to wait for someone like you, you No, I want to wait for someone like you To make my life so dynamite Ah ah ah ah ah ah Turn this dark life into light Ah ah ah ah ah ah Make my world so shiny bright Ah ah ah ah ah ah Gonna make my life so dynamite Ah ah ah ah ah ah You got me burnin' both ways Got me burnin' all day Ima explode! YO! No I want to wait for someone like you To make my life so dynamite Ah ah ah ah ah ah Turn this dark life into light Ah ah ah ah ah ah Make my world so shiny bright Ah ah ah ah ah ah You got me burnin' both ways Ima explode!
And the other song that I personally thought was the funniest thing I've heard heard was Beauty Queen by Leather Dynamite. You can go to their MySpace if you dare but I warn you, the song is VERY vulgar and highly degrading towards women, but if you're feeling frisky or curious, man or woman, check it out. It's laughable.

Well...Considering the giant Nintendo craze was when I was really young and collecting things was the furthest thing from my mind I can't whip up some crazy collectible thing like Des. I may have my own elegance of collectibles, but suffice to say its of this generation of people. Not the stone age. XD Either way, the geekiest purchase I've ever made was actually in the past week or so. I HATE Yu-Gi-Oh. Hate it. Never liked it. Ever. Something about the craze always made me hate it but after seeing a card titled 'Gradius' with the 'Vic Viper' on it I easily stowed away my pride and bought it faster than Mario Andretti on a straight-away.

Killzone: Liberation! C'mon, you guys knew this was coming. Especially from your resident shooter fan. Anyway, what can I say? Plays great, looks great, sounds great. Enough said...however that would bring forth the mods so I'll elaborate. If you haven't played the original Killzone, it was in first person and on the PS2 whereas this incarnation of the Killzone universe is at top-down isometric view of the whole battlefield, it's on the PSP and the gameplay takes the style of tactical gunplay over running and gunning. This is no stealth affair, though you're certainly welcome to try. The mechanics of the game are all about cover, then popping up and taking a couple pot-shots and then getting your head back down. The A.I. is particularly good, especially in the later stages when they actually start tossing grenades your way or start moving around to flank you with shotguns. The whole play style itself really puts some next-gen games to shame. The graphical presentation is really smooth, with nice textures and over-all polish to the game and great character animations for every reload, every shot of your gun, the way your character and everyone around you runs, the way they throw grenades and so on so forth. Not to mention the inclusion of rag-doll physics! How cool is that! Not to say that there aren't any graphical hitches like the occasional twitching dead body or a limb getting clip through a barrier or something but it doesn't happen too often so it really doesn't detract from the whole experience. The sound is what really captivates me about this game with re-used but re-mastered sounds from the original game thrown in with many, many new sounds. I sometimes sat there, with my headphones on, and just kinda listened and shot off my gun a few times just to see how cool it all sounded. Wind blowing, the engines of a Helghast drop ship whining as it came in low to drop off soldiers, the voice work, the sounds of the guns. It was all really engaging and it really did make me feel like I was there despite being on a two-inch screen. Killzone: Liberation does have Multi-player over Ad-hoc but if you don't have 5 other people to play with then it's really kinda drawn out because the maps are just far too large. The multi-player plays identical to the single-player but against human players so it add that element of urgency and un-knowing. Many times I sat behind cover, trying to kill my friend and he'd flank me or go high and throw a grenade. It's really good despite being able to see where everyone is at all times because of the view. Killzone: Liberation does have a Downloads section but it's not up and running yet and in that Downloads section they're supposed to have a free Infastructure download available when it is up and running, so I'll see you guys on the battlefield.

Well, I'm not quite sure if this should go in Play It or here but since it's more or less talking about music...of games I figured I'd put it here and then if it needed to be moved someone could go ahead and do that. Anyway. Favorite video-game OST. Final Fantasy VII? Rhapsody? Halo? Whatever the case may be, everyone at least likes some tunes on some of the games they play, even me who normally does the custom tracks option if he can, because lets face it; Listening to Prodigy while killing Nazis on Call Of Duty 2 is a whole lot better that way. However, there is a soundtrack that just stuck out when I played the game it went to and that game is none other than the very metal Painkiller. With songs like sWitch, X E Qt R, and Painkiller the game reeks of metal and for good measure, considering you're one man blowing holes in Hell's forces much like the Doomguy did back in the day. The tunes themselves are very metal with lots of heavy guitar licks, hammer-ons and general electric guitar chords. As a whole the soundtrack itself varies with heavy hitters like the aformentioned X E Qt R, to the mild Power It Up, with some techno-industrial tunes in there for good measure like the song Bear Me The Light. The soundtrack is all very good, even if you're not into game soundtracks it's at least worth the 45 or so minutes it runs.

Alright, alright. di.fm here with another 'classic' and my reasoning behind the quotes is that classic usually denotes a serious fan following, many sequels prequels and spin offs, and some age to it but in this sense I'm giving it the classic tag because I claim it is the father of modern shooters. kill.switch Yeah, you read that correctly. kill.switch. Name another shooter before it that offered EVERYTHING as cover, blind fire, and a motley assortment of weapons that didn't suck? Can't do it can you? Neither can I. Seriously folks. Look at all the games that took some notes. Ghost Recon: Advance Warfighter, Gears Of War, Rainbow Six: Vegas...and these are newer titles! Think about it. After 2004 the shooter genre was never the same again. Before that you could only take cover when the developers said it was okay but after kill.switch you get games with notes saying; 'Take cover anywhere!' or 'Different cover will offer different degrees of protection!' and so on so forth. Now the game wasn't that realistic, and the story was very convoluted, but the graphics were top-notch and the voice acting was terrific. Not to mention the play mechanics, which I most certainly HAVE mentioned. Either way, this game deserves it's rights as a 'classic' game.

Season One is still, by far, the best season because at the time everything was fresh, the jokes were funny...Caboose didn't suck. Sure, the transition into Halo 2age was cool but after about half-way through Season Two everything started kinda going stale. At least in my own opinion. Another thing; When my manager went to the Managers Confrence in Texas for Eb Games and GameStop management he got the trocadero CD signed by Church and Simmons. To Team Ninja; our store team.
