To commemorate to release of Street Fighter 4 I decided to download the song "War" by Sick Puppies and then convert it to a ringtone. Fantastic.
How much better do I have to get? I swear my gun is aiming at their head and I press fire and it goes toward them....but no hit. That just sounds like poor collision detection to me. I finally beat the game and I realized that the best gun in the game was the Shotgun, because it has pretty good range even for mid to mid-far shots. Not bad, considering shotguns are notorious for getting me murked in other games :(
But, come on, wasn't that last level just epic looking while you were parachuting down, and then when you climb out of the sewers.. Amazing. Anyway, I've moved on from what I was playing. Legend of Legaia, I believe. Got bored, real quick. So. Now I'm playing FEAR 2 because a friend of mine lent it to me. It's not as inspiring as the first one because the original FEAR was in a class of its own in 2005, but its definitely a good shooter, even if the scare tactics aren't as good. And the story? Gets better and better.
Silpheed Pilot will probably destroy my post when he reads this but I've been playing Medal of Honor: Airborne and I have to say....this game is terrible. The concept of parachuting in is pretty neat, but the shooting aspect of the game is just downright terrible. If I can aim with my sniper rifle and hit someone dead center and they don't even flinch....that's just.....no. I'd rather play Call of Duty.
Shoot better. Consider your post destroyed. I've been going back and playing some old school RPGs. Currently have Legend of Legaia in my P Trip. Its by far one of the best PS1 RPGs. Also playing Vanguard Bandits. It's not precisely an RPG because it's technically a tactical RPG but it's pretty sweet. It has medieval mecha. Whats not to love?

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
silpheedpilot replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
Watched all of Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team last night, and that was pretty fun. Went along with my Gundam multimedia mood I've been in. Now I'm watching all of Outlaw Star, which I happen to love a whole lot. One of the few anime I saw on Toonami way back that I actually ended up liking. Call me crazy but me and Cowboy Bebop don't get along so well. -
Holy crap, you anime nerds make me sick! You have no lives, you like a stupid fad from the Moon, and your cartoons all have the same plot! Ahhhh! I'm kidding. Anime is to some people what football (or better yet, videogames) is to others; a lifestyle. Sooooo you own a alot of anime stuff and your favorite quotes come from anime TV shows. You like the dress like your favorite anime characters, and maybe even try and be like them. Awesome, great. More power to you. It's the same thing as the kid who plays football after school, wears football jerseys out in public and dreams of someday being a high payed football athlete. The only difference is that America as a whole considers the football kid to be normal, and the anime nerd to be an outcast, or a child. Gotta kinda take it all in stride, I guess. I'd rather hang out with the anime nerd over the football doucher any day.

Since it is unbecoming of a man to cry, I have not cried at a videogame. Nor movie, book, death in the family. Crying is for sissies. Anyway, like Korey, I have given one of those; 'Awww, maaaaaaan.' to a video game. When R-Type Final ended, I felt distraught and disheartened. But then I pressed reset and everything was gravy.

Have you ever been in, what I like to call, a Multimedia Mood? Where you're craving playing wild west games, and watching wild west flicks to go along with it, or you feel like your day isn't complete without some type of RPG, and the accompanying anime? I get those more often than not. Heck, I'm in one right now. Shooters and Gundam games. Started last night when I was sitting around bored to tears. So I went and rifled through my collection of games and spotted one I hadn't played in a while; R-Type Final. So, I popped it in. Love all over again. I played it for a good hour or so, and then when I quit I felt the urge to play any other shooter. Played Silpheed. Raiden. Gradius. More R-Type, more Gradius, alot more Silpheed (Read: name). After I beat a few games, R-Type Final, R-Type 2 and Silpheed to note, I wanted to play something else. Went and dug some more. Found Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation vs Zeon. Aw crap. Then I needed to watch some Gundam shows, play more Gundam games. Either way, I was in a Multimedia Mood. What about you guys?
Seconded. It's the fourth title that bears the Halo name, but it's not Halo 4. Consider this more of a different part of the series. While I'm sure that people are clamoring for Halo 4 (I'm not), Bungie is putting their best foot forward with Halo Wars for right now.
Yeah, but we established your opinions on FPSs don't even matter anyway. I'm looking forward to, in order: HALO WARS HALO: ODST (Which is going to be an FPS as well.) F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin Killzone 2 If I'm not holding the gun, or playing Halo, then gaming ain't at it's finest. Oh, right, and since becoming a Street Fighter fan (Was with SNK in my younger years) I'm getting pretty jazzed about SF4. Looks good in motion and M. Bison is Psycho Crushing better than ever.

Hmmm.. There are plenty of games I'd love to be in but I think some of the more recent ones would be; Being one of the mercenaries hunting the Jackal in Far Cry 2 would be pretty neat. Africa makes for good killing. Killzone has a great art style, and I'd love to wear one of those awesome suits that the Helghast wear. It'd be fun to be a Sackboy from Little Big Planet. I mean, just think of all the neat places you'd get to go AND you'd get to dress up like Solid Snake. Neat.
-
I'm currently going back and playing previous installments of games that are coming out in the next months. Killzone and FEAR are the two big ones. Gotta refresh my memory on the story lines, obviously.

Stabbing yourself in the eye for buying a Wii would be a better bet for your hard earned cash BUT since you can't do that buy Rock Band 2 instead. The equipment is of higher quality, the tracks are better, and the visuals are way better.

Resident Evil 4 You can't strafe, not scary. The Wii system All of it. Every thing, and game about it. A total letdown. Prince of Persia Yeah, that's cool. Guide me by the hand and tell me where to go every step of the way. No thanks, I'll go back to playing the Sands of Time.

Did anyone else see the huge comparison to a zombie outbreak? Well. Chainmail, automatic weapons, and take the high ground. It should have been easily prevented.

The Rock has come back to The Otakuboards! No, I'm not playing a wrestling game. I'm actually power leveling a new toon to 60 with the refer a friend feature on World of Warcraft after making a new account so I can access the Wrath content faster. I'm very lazy, you see.
And so what if I don't agree with the general consensus of the community? If I think Fallout 3 is a stinking pile of turd, I have just as much a right to say it as you do of your praise for the game.
Then I have to know what YOU think isn't terrible. As it stands I'm not expecting much.
-
You are FORCED to use the VATS system, and VATS is pretty much cheating. Why should it take me 7 shots to kill a dog, when I can otherwise use VATS to kill it in 3? And the slowmo got really old really fast. It did it after every shot.
Kind of like Called Shots in the previous Fallout games, huh? Your logic is flawed and you're just butthurt because it's not an old-style isometric RPG. Oblivion with guns? Why not call Icewind Dale; Fallout with swords? Think what you will of the integrity of videogame reviewing sites, mags, blogs and such but I think the general concensus is that Fallout 3 is quite the GREAT game.
-
It doesn't include any online play, and you really don't NEED to play the previous Fallout games to enjoy this one. Though, you might want to just so you can experience the charm and understand some subtle references. I'm not going to lie; This game IS Oblivion with guns but that's what makes it good. I'm loving Fallout 3 the more I play it and it'll likely replace Oblivion as my 'Greatest Game Ever Made'.

Like we talked about, Gav, as long as I can be a spacer with some ill blaster skills I'll be just fine playing this until the end of time. Of course, by that I mean until the Warhammer 40k MMO drops.

Currently splitting my time between the wonderful FPS; Far Cry 2 in all it's free roaming, first person, IEDing goodness. As well, I'm playing Star Ocean: The First Departure on the PSP. I loved Star Ocean: The Second Story on the PSOne and I was a total recluse when I was playing Star Ocean: Til The End of Time when it dropped on the PDub back a few years.

Okay, so, let's head back to the beginning. Far Cry was released for the PC in 2004 to critical fan and press success. However, the game lacked certain game play and story elements and so, in 2005/6 Ubisoft gave it a go and remade Far Cry for the original Xbox that corrected some storyline issues and gave you the mutant powers you lacked in the first game. Since Crytek, obviously, sold the Far Cry license Ubisoft has released the second in the series. Though, it's unlike the first game in story and game play. In this game you play as one of 8 male mercenaries. (sorry ladies) You're sent into Africa by a third-party group to assassinate a man who has been supplying firearms to groups, factions, armies, and general populous for a very long time. Things go wrong very fast because you contract malaria and are rendered inoperable. This is where the game starts. Now with no leads or connections you are forced to work for these two warring factions to possibly find some clues on where to find this man; The Jackal. Game play consist of first person shooting in a free-roam environment not unlike the first Far Cry. There are tons of missions to take from assassination missions to rescue missions and for the most part there are always multiple ways to complete your objectives. In a particular mission I had to take a truck out in a convoy, so, I blocked the road off with two jeeps and set an IED in the road. As I watched, perched up on a hill, as the men in the front car got out to move the cars I blew the IED up and the truck along with it. I could have just blasted it with a rocket, or even commandeered the vehicle and put it into a lake but I decided on a despicable method. The graphics are quite amazing and it's not uncommon to just stop and go; 'Wow.' I will, however, say that the PS3 version has some terrible screen tearing issues, and I'm not sure about the 360 version. A few complaints are that it takes a long time to drive from point A to point B and the missions you usually accept are on the opposite side of the map. So, it can become frustrating. All in all, if you like first person shooters and can trudge through at least the first hour to get to the good stuff then you'll likely enjoy Far Cry 2. I highly recommend it.
After that there have been some impressive games (BioShock, Crysis), but nothing that tops what the original innovators did IN MY OPINION. Feel free to disagree.
No. No no no. NO. NO! Comparing Doom to Crysis is like comparing your old busted Model T to someone's Ferrari Enzo. You said Doom sped development up on FPS and that makes it better than the game that pushed FPS gameplay 10 years into the future? Ridiculous, and just one example. Halo generic? Thats plain stupid. STUPID. If anything, Halo CREATED generic for consoles. When it was great, everyone else tried to follow in it's footsteps and failed and failed hard. It did single player gameplay very well, and had killer multiplayer. So, how can you say it's generic? It did, and still does what it's contemporary, Goldeneye, did back in '97 and beyond for console gaming. Originator does not make it better. There was a right and wrong answer and you gave the wrong answer. On topic; I busted through Dead Space two times in the past week and if I had a list of favorite games ever made it would be on it. It's really that good, Korey. Trust me. TRUST ME. Of all people. Me.
Every other horror FPS? I've played F.E.A.R. , a little bit of Half Life 2 (wouldn't consider that horror, but anyways) , Halo 3, BioShock, Crysis...etc. I found them all basically cookie cutter designs with new worlds to explore and different features in all of them. Thus my skepticism.
Compared to....? I don't get what you mean. If you play an FPS, you've played them all. If you've played an action game, you've played them all. That's basically what you're saying, so in turn Zelda was stale after the first one. Along with every RTS ever made, and any RPGs. Your logic is downright flawed so you might as well just say you don't like FPS style games. Lucky for you Dead Space is an over-the-shoulder shooter with more style than Rick James.
-
It takes a lot for me to get into any sort of FPS game ( I find them horribly generic now a days).
Compared to...? Anyway, I picked up Dead Space when it dropped Wednesday and I'll have to say it's easily jumped to my list of favorite games of all time. It's not scary, the story is as thin as paper, and taking enemies down boils down to cutting their legs off and then arms. HOWEVER. It's the presentation. The visuals, the style, the design choices. The voice acting, and even the character models. Everything about this game oozes style and thought. Even the ship you're roaming around on has subtle hints of gothic architecture. It's quite amazing. As Drizzt said before; the weapons themselves are quite amazing. Not QUITE as mining as I would have thought but you get what they were going for. Each gun serves a different purpose and you can take whichever weapons you chose into battle with you to suit your play style, but be warned; Don't forget your trusty flamethrower. It's a godsend. Basically Drizzt summed everything up pretty nicely and I'm just happy to be playing it. Not trading it in for Fable, that's for sure.
Typically, when a guy grows a pair, it's called maturing. Most of us already have. But hey, if that's what gets your groove on, far be it from me to call you immature. That'd be, like,.... ...immature. Hmm.
If I could touch you in real life I'd probably punch you in the chin but, unfortunately, you're right and I did type something pretty stupid.
-
Superbad? Man, that movie was hilarious. I guess you all are just so mature that it offends you, I don't know. The worst bloody movie ever made? Easy. Michael Bay's Transformers. What the hell was that crap? Seriously. As a fan of Transformer goodness the movie was garbage. All of it. I liked not a single piece of that film. First off you got Jazz, the obvious 'black' Transformer from the G1 series acting like a damn fool. "Sup, lil' *******. This looks like a cool place to kick it!" Huh? Then in the middle you have daddy Prime. "No, Ironhide! You know we don't hurt humans! Whats' with you?!" Then he goes ahead and says; "Oops, my bad" after stepping on some dumb lawn piece. The humans with some grenade launched SABOT rounds were the ones to defeat most of the Decepticons in the latter half of the movie while the Autobots got pummeled. Stupid. And even when bot-on-bot action came on screen you couldn't see anything and didn't know what the hell was going on. What the hell happened to Barricade? He just decide to leave? Then, obviously, their look was outrageous. Looked like utter crap. You got Starscream looking like, what, a silver..machine..man? No red, no blue. The only reason you knew it was Starscream was because Michael Bay was balls deep in marketing his creations. I hate you Michael Bay. Worst movie ever made. Hands down. Period. Don't try and justify it. It was garbage and that little list is just the TIP of the iceberg but I'm too heated to continue. Screw the sequel.
