Currently got Memphis May Fire playing on my play list. When I first bought their album in the beginning of the year I didn't think much of them, mainly because they're 'screamo', but they grew on me over time and now I really dig them in spurts. Heavy chords, some solid drumming, and in between bouts of screaming the lead singer has good set of pipes in him.

little big planet beta! Oh it is quite wonderful! Part platformer, part social networking. Part action, part puzzle! All cute! It is by far the best PS3 game I have played to date, and the most creative one to boot. Playing with friends is fun and even total strangers make this game a blast. When I say this is the most creative game, I mean it. The levels have so much thought to them! Someone actually recreated Green Hill Zone, the 1st level of the 1st Sonic, on this game and another user made a level where you pull a block to initiate a piano theme and it happened to be the theme from Zanarkand from Final Fantasy 10, or in the same vein there was a level where I rode a car that did the same thing except it was 'Sweet Child O' Mine' by Guns 'N Roses. Genius! If you have a PS3 then you are obligated to get this game on the 21st. If you don't have a PS3 then you're obligated to get both the console and little big planet when it drops on the 21st.

It's not so much an obsession as much as it's basically one of my favorite game series of all time. The Legacy of Kain The story is so rife with fantasy, betrayal, time traveling, and even the butterfly effect. The voice acting is excellent and the characters are highly likable. Kain? Greatest vampire ever created. Not only do I own every single installment, even as far back as Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen on the PS1, I have action figures of both Kain and Raziel alike.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed "Don't believe everything that you've heard, you'll get a parking violation and a maggot on your sleeve." Seriously. Screw the critics who have given this game a 7.5 out of 10 and complained and complained that it's not all it's cracked up to be. Trust me, it is. It is THE definitive game when you want to use Force powers, or use lightsaber combat. It's fast, flashy, and most of all; it's fun! The Force Powers? True to source material. Force Lightning that course and surges on things and from your fingers like a spider web of energy. It's awesome. Mostly the reviewers have praised the story, which I love, and hated on the gameplay mechanics which in some cases I can agree with. Nevertheless a 7.5 to them must be a 9.0 to me.

Man, that's absolutely ridiculous. You'll come around. They always do. Now, yes, Fallout 3 is a different story entirely. I can't wait for it to drop because I loved the original games to death and played them each many, many times. Even though Bethesda took over the reins I think it's gonna deliver a true, albeit, next-gen experience and I'm ready to be floored.

Whoa, buddy. Don't deny yourself such a grand experience on account of EA. I'm telling ya; EA is about to drop the biggest and best Resident Evil killer since Darth Vader killed the Emperor. Seriously. Don't sleep on this one.

I figured instead of making a thread for each and every game that is upcoming I'd lump them all into one thread seeing as how, obviously, they all come out in October. Anyway, so, October is going to be a busy month for us gamers. Fracture - October 8th. When I first heard of this game I was like; 'Huh? Using guns to deform the terrain to your advantage? Okay.' Then I kept seeing more and more videos and news stories on it and I became quickly excited for it. Basically, that's the gist of it; you use high powered weapons in a futuristic setting to deform the terrain around you for a tactical advantage or whatever else you can think of it. Dead Space - October 15th. If you haven't been keeping tabs on this game then you're sorely out of luck because you're gonna miss out on an amazing multi-media extravaganza. The game is looking to be a very promising, and very spooky third person over-the-shoulder shooter with enough to separate it from the pack. Can't wait. I love being scared. SOCOM: Confrontation - October 15th. Basically if you have a PS3 and you're done with The Call of Dookie 4 then this will be the game for you. Completely focused on multiplayer and sporting a new over-the-shoulder viewpoint, this team-based third person shooter should appeal to anyone with either a military itch or a multiplayer itch. Far Cry 2 - October 22st. Now October this year may be the year for some people because Fable 2 is coming out and others may be salivating over Fallout 3 (I am) but for me this open-ended, sand-box first person shooting is my game of the year. When I played the first Far Cry on the PC back a few years I fell in love. I fell in love with the setting, the story, the guns, the game engine. Everything. This time, while not being developed by Crytek, I'm still having high hopes for the game because of the wide open African savanna they drop you into and the way they give you multiple ways to complete your objectives. If you like first person shooters then you most definitely NEED to play Far Cry 2 when it hits. Fable 2 - October 21st. To my understanding Fable 2 is supposed to be everything Fable 1 set out to be, which is awesome in my eyes. I really liked the original Fable even if it was a bit linear and constrictive. This time around, though, Peter Molyneux has promised and sworn up and down that its Fable the way we wanted it to begin with. I'm excited. Fallout 3 -October 28th. Next to Lametar Hero: World Tour's wide-spread acceptance this will be October's killer app. Headed up by Bethesda, which you know of The Elder Scrolls fame, Fallout 3 is looking to be headed in the right directions. As an avid fan of the previous 2 games and, yes, even the spin-offs I'm glad.
I'm currently engrossed in Oblivion on my 360. By the gods, this game is MASSIVE. 108 hours on one character, and I haven't completed the main quest yet, nor have I completed more than half the sidequests. This one is going to keep me happy for years to come (especially when it's time for my 'complete and own everything' run).
Oh man. Kenso. Yeah, dude, you haven't even scratched the surface. I logged 500 plus hours into just one single character when Oblivion came out. Sparing you the details; my hard drive was deleted and so I then logged another 200 hours in on a different character. Oblivion is by far my favorite 360 game. As for what I'm playing; Bionic Commando Rearmed. Wow. I'm not going to lie and say I LOVED the original because, quite frankly, that game was hard and it pissed me off so I merely like it at best. Granted, yes, I liked it enough to warrant a bit of giddy for the next-gen sequel and so I figured I'd give Rearmed a chance seeing as how it got a next-gen injection of awesome. I love it. Its pretty much JUST like the original but with small tweaks here and there it ends up being far more enjoyable for me this time around and, holy crap, the soundtrack is so amazing. All the remixed and techno-ed up songs are a great fit. I absolutely 100% suggest this game.
I've definitely spent a lot of money on clothing items in the past though (most recently, a new suit). But I figure if that's something you're interested in - and if it's something you're actually going to make good use of - then it's probably worthwhile. I suppose it all comes down to people's preferences.
Basically what James said. If you got the money and you like the necklace, for instance, why not? My girlfriend just yesterday spent over $700 on a brand new wardrobe from Hollister Co. Was it expensive? Oh yes. But, again, as James said; '..and if It's something you're actually going to make good use of - then it's probably worthwhile.' I mean, I mostly shop at PacSun. Granted, it's not completely over-priced but I'll spend $20 or $30 dollars for one Volcom t-shirt when someone else would just go to Wal-Mart and get something similar for $9.99. It's all in the branding. Brands sell, after all.

WARNING: Language and adult themes Here is a little something that I whipped up here at work the other day. -- silpheedpilot "It's just business.", I toyed with that phrase in the recesses of my mind for a moment. It's just business. A common phrase that two parties can use when they mean to keep personal affairs out of professional work. A CEO of a large company would say that to a colleague after royally fucking him out of a multi-million dollar deal. Some thug would say it to another thug he was pistol whipping over a busted drug deal. You're fired from a job and your boss, who is your off-of-work friend, tells you "It's just business." are just a few ways to use such a grand ol' phrase. "You know what? I hate that goddamn phrase.", I seemingly thought aloud as I discharged two rounds from my suppressed .45 caliber into some poor asshole's chest. I guess I should tell you I'm a hired hitman, an assassin, cut-throat, or whatever you want to call me in any language you can speak. I should also tell you that gaining entrance into my target's hotel room was far too easy. Obviously, as easy as grabbing a master keycard from the front desk after a quick diversionary tactic can be. Again, easily enough I made my way up here into the room with a slight swipe of a card and knee-capped my quarry so he couldn't run but before I killed him I made damn sure he knew it was 'just business'. As I stepped outside the city itself came rushing to my senses. The sound of traffic, the smell of the bustling and busy metropolis and the dry summer air. The sun was shining so brightly I thought it would burn my retinas. It was a good day for a killing. I hailed a cab. When I got in the taxi cab I instinctively drew my weapon, this time unsilenced, and pressed it to the cabbie's head. "Anything you hear, you forget. You didn't see my face you don't remember what I sound like. If I even think that someone has sniffed me out, I'm coming for you. So, do we have an accord?", I pressed the gun harder into the cab driver's skull to illustrate my point. Of course the cabbie just nodded his head, albeit a little spastic, and said; "W-where are you headed?". Ah yes. Cooperation. "Away from here. I'll tell you when to stop.", I said while slowly pulling the gun away. I then sat back let myself enter the padded room tucked far away in my mind. I'm in pearl white bathroom and I'm at the sink. I gaze into the mirror at my own features and I see a monster. Others see a white male in his mid to late twenties with brown hair teased up with gel and striking features including bright blue eyes and a strong jawline. Vanity is it's own reward. Anyway, I see a monster. You pay this monster money and he ends others lives. Not only does this monster end lives, he enjoys it. Revels in it, decides when days are ripe for a killing. This monster has a mind-only ritual after every kill. I push on the mirror and it swings open to reveal, from top to bottom, bottles of pills. I systematically open a bottle and place one pill into my mouth, swallow, and repeat the process until I've taken a pill from every pill bottle in the cabinet. Am I crazy for popping pills in my mind? Does it prove that I'm insane? Or maybe this keeps me sane instead. Who knows? What I do know is that it calms my nerves on the outside world and keeps me from cracking skulls left and right. I close the mirror and gaze into it. I see a monster. I come to my senses and the whole process in my head took less than 30 seconds of real-time, though it felt like hours. I remember I need to call in my kill so I retrieve a black cellphone from my pocket and I flip it open with my thumb. Like a phone from some spy movie it's on a private, secure, and untracable network that links me directly to my employers. It's kind of bullshit and I don't understand how anyone can get away with it but who am I question technology and more importantly those who employ me? I dial a few numbers on the keypad and I bring the phone to my ear. "Status.", a silky smooth female voice says on the other end. "Yeah. It's done.", I say and then I add with a little humor in my voice, "Want to go to dinner sometime?" "Over and out.", the voice replied to me, irritated. I clasp the phone close and stuff it back in my pocket. With a sigh I settle back in my seat and just enjoy the ride some.

No, you're absolutely right. The Slim PS2, while not gimmicky, was another excuse for Sony to take your money. The Elite with it's incredible memory space was, yes, another product for Microsoft to put out for consumers to buy HOWEVER, as I said before, it's never as blatant as Nintendo. The fact remains that they could have, and should have, had 1:1 motion sensing from the get go. I don't really think; 'Technology was less affordable 2 years ago' cuts it because, again, Nintendo is using old technology so unless those 'geniuses' at Nintendo are actually really dense then they've had plenty of time to work current tech into an old-as-dinosaurs frame.
I still think you're both overreacting and looking far too for a reason to complain. On top of that, you're talking like other companies don't do the same kind of things. Fact is, that's how business is done. At least Nintendo's equipment works the way they say it will when it comes out (and will likely continue to do so for YEARS to come). Our other console companies can't say that. (And I can't even say I agree with Des about the Wii Zapper - I rather like it.) I'd like to see what they're going to throw into the next Mario Party with this. That's been one of my gripes with some of the mini-game 'games' for the Wii (Carnival Games, for example) - some of the games don't work well without proper representation of hand movement.
I won't lie when I say I find reasons to bash Nintendo because of it's unyielding popularity with it's shoddy controls, re-hash games, and over-all last-gen presentation. Sure, you're right that other companies try and rip you off one way or another it's just that no other company does it as blatantly as Nintendo. Point? 'NINTENDO DS! YAY!' A few months later. 'NINTENDO DS! NEW COLORS! YAY!' A year later. 'NINTENDO DS LITE! YAY!' Couple months later still. 'NEW NINTENDO DS LITE COLORS! YAY!' People ate that crap up and thats just the tip of the iceberg. Without a shadow of a doubt I'm willing to bet that they will release new colors for the Wii in coming years and people who love the Wii will go out and get it, along with other little tweaks and 'innovations' such as, oh my, the MotionPlus. See, you didn't need the HD DVD add-on for the Xbox 360 to enjoy your 360 to the fullest, and you don't need a rumble controller to enjoy the PS3 to it's fullest either but I'm almost positive that some, if not the majority of Wii games are going to require that 1:1 sensing that the MotionPlus supposedly does.

Protip: Play as Coyote. Really, though, your best shot at beating Killer7, aside from using a guide, is to think outside the box because if playing as one character doesn't yield sufficient results then try another character.
I'd like to throw an argument out at this. The Wii itself is not gimicky at all. It's an innovative console with a huge potential for gameplay never before dreamed of in video games. The problem is that most of the games being released (including those by Nintendo) are treating its innovations as gimicks, thereby making it far harder to take it for the serious console it has the potential to be. As Des has already stated, technology is insanely quick at evolving, and the chances are pretty high that it did not exist in an affordable format at the release of the Wii. Or it didn't exist in a size that was viable for use with the Wiimote. I for one am quite excited about the possibilities of the MotionPlus, and am quite looking forward to sword dueling games. Maybe something like Oblivion even, which could be pretty cool with an addition with the much potential for interaction. I think a big part of what can be done with it will depend on whether or not the Nunchuk can plug into it or not. Without that joystick and those two extra buttons, options can get pretty limited.
Innovative with crap controls? So innovative they have to make something that attaches to the bottom of the controller just to make it work the way they wanted it to when they concieved it? Serious as in it's continually and will forever be marketed for kids and families that have never played anything outside of Minesweeper on the computer. Yeah, ok. When you create a console that uses technology that was created years before this console generation then you have plenty of time to work your kinks out and make improvements on that existing tech. Sure, when MotionPlus comes out with it's supposed 1:1 movement ratio then those gimmicky games may control better.
Me again, with my usual dose of old-but-still-better-than-yours. Boston, this time, with their masterful Foreplay/Long Time. That's how rock is supposed to sound.
I see the old but where is the better? I'm currently listening to a wonderful hard-core band from L.A. called Terror. They've actually be around since, I believe, 2000 but their notoriety is pretty low here in Kansas so it wasn't until this year that I started listening to them but they have good hook and great riffs so I'm quite enjoying them.

Yes, I know this is music but because it deals with videogames then I figured it would do more good here than in the music section. Anyway, so, everyone loves a good game soundtrack, right? Granted, yes, there are games that have simply horrendous music and so you either turn it off and play your own tunes, or suffer through it and just forget that game ever had music but.. Have you ever played a game and that soundtrack just stuck in your mind? Whether it was well-known songs by labeled artists or an engrossing score that kept you involved with what was going on with accompanying melodies or concertos? I'm sure you have, so let's hear 'em! For me? Easily enough it was Metal Gear Solid. At least it was the first. Back in '98 when that game first came out I was only 10 years old so my appreciation for music was pretty limited but that game in fact made me sit there and just run around in the Warhead Disposal Facility just to listen to the overtone playing while you sneak around, or sometimes I would prolong boss fights just to listen to the great boss battle theme or even just get into fire fights to hear the battle music. Diablo had really inspiring music as well. The starting town, Tristram, had a very gothic renaissance theme and when you descended into the labyrinth for the first time you heard thumping war drums and ominous tones that sounded like they were coming from the pits of hell themselves. Further into the labyrinth yielded far more epic songs with plenty of overtures and crescendos. Worth playing just to listen to the music. Anyway, what about you?

Normally at work I sit and play PSP but today I decided to hit Barnes and Nobles before I went to work and through all the science fiction/fantasy novels section I decided on Warhammer 40,000: The Blood Angels Omibus. Being that I'm a Warhammer 40k fan I figured why not? It's actually two books in one with a short story between the two title novels and so far I'm quite enjoying the story. It's about a Space Marine 'chapter' called The Blood Angels and their struggle on a cemetary planet for fallen warriors against the forces of Chaos, which are Space Marines turned by a demonic force, for control of the planet. Things get even more complicated when one Space Marine, named Arkio, after a great victory in battle claims to be a reincarnation of a great leader of centuries past, while another Space Marine named Rafen, his birth brother, follows him, as other Space Marines do, but with disdain knowing that it's simply untrue. So far it's really great and if you're a fan of space, killing, space marines, killing with space marines, or space that has killing with marines in high tech battle armor then you'd be alright to pick this one up and two books for 12 bucks? A steal.

You all don't know funny until have a 'Bad Movie Night' with your friends and rent the New Zealand gem; Black Sheep. That movie is incredible because it's just sooooo bad. I mean, how can you go wrong with zombie sheep? Wait, you can't. Go rent it!

Don't forget that the Dreamcast had Power Stone 1 & 2 which were really sweet 3-D, free-run, multi-tiered fighting games. Not to mention any port from the arcade was amazing in comparison to other consoles at the time. King of Fighters '99, anyone?

Eating anything off of the ground is beneficial to your health. The BFG9000 is STILL the most powerful weapon ever. "Link! LISTEN!! LINK!! LISTEN!!!!! LISTEN!!!!!" Fairies still suck.

So, wait, technology that should have been put into the controller from the get go? Huh. Nintendo works in mysterious ways.

Save up some paychecks, mow some lawns, steal some money from your mom's purse. Do what you gotta do. As for PS2 games I can suggest... Rogue Galaxy is an excellent RPG if you haven't play that. Basically all of the good in an RPG and none of the bad, except maybe a not-so-Final Fantasy storyline. The Punisher is a nice violent retreat for a night. Good rental. Killzone if you can stand to play a sub-par shooter with so much wasted potential. However, it is fun and has so much style to spare. Shadow of the Colossus is quite amazing. Great production values as well as the perfect concept of fighting only bosses. Climb to the top or wherever you gotta be to hurt it and, well, do it. Most the fun comes from figuring out how break a piece of armor off, how to stop it from moving or whatever. EDIT: You've played Rogue Galaxy but if you haven't beaten it why not go back and do that?

Yoda is cheapage. He's that one character you always really punch your friend over for using. Like Oddjob in Goldeneye. He's too short so basic horizontal attacks can't hit him, and if you're a halfway decent Sol Cal player you'll be 8 way running enough that vertical attacks are rendered ineffective. You can't grab him. He's completely broken.
-
Oh, I read it's just that I didn't care that you were picky and wasn't aware you only had the 360 for a while. Instead of wasting bandwidth on useless; 'I don't really care about your opinions! lololol' topics pick up a magazine and head straight for the review section cause at least it doesn't have to put up with your snide attitude. Or better yet, jump into the next-gen pool with everyone else.

You really need Soul Calibur 4, and don't say you don't, because I know you like fighting games, even though you tend to stay away from Soul Calibur and Tekken which is absolutely silly, so don't be a Picky McPickerson and play the glorious game feat. Darth Vader if you're cool and have it on the PS3 or Yoda if you fail at life and have it on the 360.
