Okay, so! I've been playing the hell out of Turok because I've been waiting three years for this game and I must say; I'm impressed. Now I'm not going to sit here and say it redefines the genre and, really, it doesn't even bring anything new to the table other than neutral dinos but it does have that charm of being a Turok game which, for me, is almost all I need. The plot is fairly basic and no-nonsense. You play as Joseph Turok, a native American commando, and you're out with Whisky Company to hunt down a one Kane, who was your mentor and leader of your previous commando brigade; Wolf Pack. Some bad stuff happens while you were in Wolf Pack and now you have some bad rep because of it. Your ship gets shot down en route to the planet where you're supposed to launch your assault against Kane and nwo you realize that there is more going down on the planet than just Kane hiding. Dinosaurs. The gameplay is your fairly basic FPS affair. Right trigger shoots, left trigger aims in for a more accurate shot. Your weapons are basic as well; SMG, Shotgun, Grenade launcher, and so on so forth. You can dual-wield many of the weapons in the game and each weapon has a secondary fire such as the shotgun shooting flares that lure dinosaurs or the pistol's three-round burst effect. Now, something fairly unique is the bow and your knife which serves as your best and most brutal way of taking enemies out silently, or for me, herds of raging raptors using the Quick Kill technique when something gets to close while you have your knife out. The game looks fantastic with ample use of lighting and the Unreal 3 Engine's shiny-ness effect. The jungles are lush and even the grass sways as you walk through it. Even though you have a no-nonsense plot, and the FPS portion of the game is fairly basic you have a Turok game.

What the person, me, of the Otakuboards thinks; 'FINALLY!' Ever since my manager went to a gaming confrence in '06 and brought me back a Turok t-shirt I've been like; 'Finally, finally, finally Turok comes back!' I'm gettin' it today but the demo was pretty sweet. The quick kills you could do with your knife looked amazing and the ability to akimbo two shotguns? Brutal. I'll chime in with more when I actually sit down and play the full game.

Oooooh Rogue Galaxy rocks! To me it's most certainly the best RPG ever. It's got everything you need; A great story, likable characters, neat battle system, and of course in this particular game's case: Level 5's most cherished 'create-it' system. Not to mention it takes forever and a day to beat the main story-line and then you've got so many side-quests to do you might as well grab a stick cause you're gonna shake it at Rogue Galaxy. Really it just did the RPG genre the right way for the new age.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that you should go trade The Orange Box in for Mass Effect because you've played the good stuff; Portal, and Half-life but TF2 was kinda weak in my opinion. Especially since you can play CoD4's multi-player and get a much more fulfilling experience, or like me, play Unreal Tournament 2007. As for what I'm playing? Nothing too grand, just kinda goin' back through the catalog of 360 games and picking up where I left off a while back. Playing Blacksite: Area 51 right now. It's kinda weak in the game play aspect but the story is pretty neat.

There is always something to someone that is far more important than others give them credit for. For instance I love skateboarding. Some people tell me I'll never go pro and that it's a wasted hobby. That along with video games, which I covet even above skateboarding. Its just all in your tastes, don't let anyone tell you that what you like is unimportant, ya know?

The Obligatory "Haul" Thread

Well, seeing as how I never asked for nothin' I was quite surprised when I opened my gifts. A nice Altec Lansing stereo surround for my computer, or well, anything. Some Volcom t-shirts from my wonderful sandwich maker, and some horror movies from my Aunt. That was all on Christmas Eve cause my immediate family does Christmas Eve. The next morning I wake up around 10:30, get ready to go to the grandparents. Arrive, mingle, then we get down to presents there. It was at that time I opened up my 24 inch wide-screen LCD monitor and HDMI to DVI cable. Ah yes. 24 inches. Thats' quite HUGE for a computer monitor. Can your Wiik be played on that? Nah, it can't. -

I am playing a gem of a game. It's called; Fire Pro Wrestling Returns. It's ugly, the music sucks, and it doesn't feature any 'real' American wrestlers but hot damn is it really good. The 2-D sprites work well with every move done in all it's glory. It's a deep wrestling game also. It's all about timing in this game so newcomers may be a bit put off by how everything is executed. The customization options are endless. You can create any character (You smell what The Rock is cookin'?), make any stable, make a ring, make a belt, make a franchise. The wrestler creation is the best because you can, like I said, create anyone. Bret Hart? Sure. The Rock? Go ahead, I did. Want the Undertaker to school these small-time Japo wrestlers? He'll do it. Colors, combinations, heads, hats, everything you want is in here. Honestly, it's the deepest wrestling game I've ever played and I'm going to keep playing it for a long while.

What do you do when you are sick?
silpheedpilot replied to Aaryanna_Mom's topic in General Discussion
I love, yet hate being sick. If I happen to get the worst of my sickness on my two or three days off from work I just lie around in bed all day and stare up at the ceiling and whine and complain for my girlfriend to bring me some soup and some Coke. If it happens to fall on the days I do work, I act as miserable as possible so my boss sends me home and thus I get to lie around all day and whine and complain for soup and Coke. -
Well, lets just clear up that I don't remember HOW I got here. I think it had to do with trying to find anime reviews and then I kinda stumbled on over to this portion of theotaku.com and yadda yadda yadda so on so forth. Yeah, the general consensus is that it's improved everyone's writing, including my own and in fact turned me into a writer. It's one of the things I enjoy doing on a regular basis now. As well, it has made me cherish online friendship a lot more than before because, well, the people you meet online are in fact real people with real thoughts, real opinions, different backgrounds, religion, and tastes. Before joining these boards I just didn't really care about the people I met online but for the most part anyone I've become friends with off these forums are considered a real friend to me. (Yeah, I know, the internet is a real place. Don't try it, smart *****)

Okay, I've watched this thread long enough and I've just never really posted...Anything. My favorite character is Captain Falcon. I think; 'I don't need weakjectiles to fight. I dodge better than anyone, and I'll grab you when you least expect it. My Falcon Punch is useless but beware of my Up + B attack. You've been warned.' Seriously, not too big of a fan of the Wiik and Super Smash Bros. but I also think it's one of the Gamecube's strongest titles and so I'm kinda lookin' foward to bashing some pokeskulls in, slapping Mario in his becoming lame face, and possibly showing Sheik that she's just some tranny in a tightsuit.

Need to get away from a bank in a hurry while under police chase? Yeah, okay, I guess I could do that to but let's get back to the part where I said I could work on any car. Where you came from- Really want to know? Midwest. Not much to do there but work on cars and inevitably race them. Why are you here? Was tired of the boring life in the midwest so I took a cabbie job out in New York city, which was the catalyst for me becoming a professional getaway driver. With a taste for speed, a lust for trouble, a happy trigger finger, and skills that would blow your doors off it was all in good time. What is your purpose? Ever hear the phrase 'never bite that hand that feeds'? Well, for me, thats just it. Okay, actually it's Unreal Tournament 3 but in my heart it'll always be UT2007. There have been plenty of games that have been released in the past couple of years that try and go back and hit the right spot in someone's heart by staying classic or just staying plain fun and for me, and really any Unreal fan, UT3 happens to be that game. Taking the superior graphics that the Unreal Engine 3 can muster up and the addictive game play from previous Unreal games UT3 hits the ground running with plenty of options. With the single player you play as a one man named Reaper, along with his motley crew, as you set about avenging your home planet from a evil alien race known as a the Necris. Basically it's a bunch of bot matches strung together nice and neat with some cut-scenes showing your progress. Ultimately it's a forgettable romp that aims to accustom you to the weapons, layout of the maps, the game types, and the over-all flow of the game. The multi player is the meat of this game and, generally, series. Taking the fight online, or against bots is the name of the game in a multitude of standard game types like Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Team Deathmatch along with the variant versions; Vehicle Capture the Flag, and the UT2004 addition Warfare, where you aim to destroy the opposing teams power node by disabling it's force field through capturing other scattered nodes. This game type seems to be the most team oriented, however, the other game types also prove very team oriented at times, with the exception of Deathmatch. On top of the game types you can select mutators which, essentially, change the flow of battle by either making time go slower, quicker, replacing all guns with sniper rifles, making heads large, and generally turning things interesting if they aren't already. All the weaponry staples return such as the GES BioRifle which shoots out globs of radioactive sludge that stay put until stepped on or fade away making it a particularly udeful defensive weapon. Other UT returns are the ASMD Shock Rifle whose main fire shoots a thin purple beam and it's alt fire shoots a sphere of energy. When you shoot the sphere of energy with the beam it creates an intense and destructive explosion. Also, favorites return like the minigun, Link Gun, and even the Redeemer in all it's nuclear glory. The sounds of the game are great as well with each weapon having it's own distinct report as well as each vehicle sounding different. The music is outstanding also, if you can hear it. Many homages and remixes of previous songs make the soundtrack memorable. If you've played Unreal in the past decade or so then you know what to expect; a fast, frantic, helluva time.

This Christmas I really don't want too much of anything for the sheer fact that my parents have been helping me out with my finances for the past few months. They bought my insurance for all of December, paid for me to renew my license, paid of a few outstanding traffic fines, fixed my car. They've just been really helpful this whole year and I want to pay them back when I can. So if not getting any gifts work towards that then I will surely take nothing because I've already got a ton of stuff. However, my mom being my mom insists I get something and she won't let me get something small. At first I was like; 'Shoot, I don't know..A box of Jujubes would be just fine.' And she just would not take that as an answer. So. Rock Band or Unreal Tournament III

I'm not beneath you so don't act above me. I'm looking at things in Annie's prospective. It doesn't matter if it's legal or illegal because people are going to do it regardless. There is underage drinking everywhere, teens smoking, doing whatever. It's illegal but does it stop them? Nah. I skate places that say I shouldn't skate there but do I let some sign tell me no? Nah. I'll keep on not smoking illegal substances while other people can continue while on the other side of the spectrum the people who abuse marijuana can keep on keepin' on while I continue to break the law by skating places I shouldn't. Jesus. Start something and everyone jumps down your throat. It's like everyone is deprived. The OB is all uptight and sterile now.

I'll still stay away from it like I have been and it'll just be another thing I can beat the piss out of my children for if they try it.

Mass Effect A simple description would be Oblivion meets Gears of War with a dash of Ghost Recon and thrown in space. The story is that you play a one John Shepard and are out to save the galaxy from all sorts of nefarious wrong-doers. There is a little treachery, a bit of emotion, lots of killing, and some romance all thrown in to make the story not only epic but one of a kind. At a gameplay standpoint it bears a resemblance to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic in that you make decisions along the way in your chats with other characters, whether you're nice to someone or a complete penis the choice is up to you. When you enter combat, however, it becomes a shooter not unlike Ghost Recon and even Gears of War. You can crouch, aim down your sights, and give orders to your fellow teammates with the D-Pad. Holding RB brings up your Powers and holding LB lets you select any of the weapons you have. Unfortunately the combat is probably the weakest aspect of the game next to the driving segments which are kinda sloshy. Its a shame. With a bit more AI tweaking, this could've been a great shooter but instead it's workable within the confines of the game structure which is the fact that it's not the central focus like the combat in Knights of the Old Republic was. The graphics are really amazing, aside from the occasional pop-in. Every glisten of glass, shimmer of light, the texture of the armor. Everything is modeled with great care. The facial animations are also some of the best seen, along with Uncharted and Heavenly Sword. Mass Effect is truly one of the better looking games to come around. All in all a great story, workable combat, likable characters, and tons of other innovations make this game worth having. 9/10

I don't own a 360. Not any more. Traded it off to my brother for his PS3 but after playing Mass Effect at my friends house for, oh, lets just say a long time I've never wanted a 360 back so badly. Everything about this game screams; 'REALLY OKAY!' and thats just fine to me. I'm not gonna say it's perfect, cause well, it's not but the story more than makes up for any short comings in any department because it's just so engrossing. The combat is kinda weak, some of the characters are lack-luster. Who cares about you Garrus? Your life story sucks. On the other hand I really like chattin' with Wrex. The vehicle section coulda used some tweaking too as well as some of the planets being just too damn big and useless. The graphics are pretty amazing. Top notch aside from the annoying ragdoll physics they have going on. With great animations all around and smooth textures its hard to nitpick. I would have liked for characters to show more emotions when you're a complete penis to them over being amazingly nice. I mean, yeah, sometimes they quip but for the most part they say the same things regardless only you get either a Paragon or a Renegade bonus. (Good or Evil) Whatever bad things this game may have, it's outweighed significantly by the main character, the dozens upon dozens of side-quests, and the over-laying story.

I'm going to say it right out; Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is the most fun I've had in a videogame this year. From the beginning to the end; the game never sets you down even if all you're doing is hopping from one ledge to another, or shimmying across a chasm because the mechanics are very very good and the graphics are outstanding. The story itself is about the lost city of gold of El Dorado but by the end of the game you find that you've gotten yourself into some stuff. The cast of characters are all likable and the voice acting and facial animations are all top-notch. The combat is, in lay mans terms, a mix of up Gears of War and Resident Evil 4. An over the shoulder, taking cover type combat system. Run to a box, pillar, and other things and pop out and shoot the bad guys. Rinse and repeat. The hand-to-hand looks amazing with each punch, kick, and every other move taking it's toll on your enemies. The game even has achievements to get that award you with a total point tally that goes towards unlocking sweet goodies like being able to select which weapon you want, character costumes, concept art, movies, and other nifty additions like flipping the world from right to left. This is by far the best game on the PS3. Triple A title.

Emos, Preps and the Whole Clique team
silpheedpilot replied to Aberinkula's topic in General Discussion
I'll make this short and sweet. I'm skater and I play way too many videogames, I hate thug types. I think preps are toolbags, and anyone who dresses remotely like a goth should end their life. Indie music sucks, rock music is the best. My clique could kick your clique's ***. -
Since I'm getting sick of everyone talking about Nintendo Wiik games I thought I'd try a new one out for size. Call of Duty 4: If you're a man, a gamer, or just like being a man and playing games in general than you should probably be playing this at the present moment between bouts of Assassin's Creed. This game just screams greatness at every polygonal seam. The visuals are outstanding and the sound quality is amazing but it's the game play that really sets it a cut above. The controls are tight and everything moves and feels as it should in an FPS of the next generation. The single player campaign was wonderful to run through and the story itself was pretty intriguing with the over-laying plot of nuclear disaster with a pinch of vengeance thrown in for good measure. Somethings left me sitting there going; 'Aw crap.' or 'That was awesome!' It really does have one of the single greatest ending sequences in video game history to it's name. A+ The multi player is where this game shines. Balance is a key factor in the multi player component of games and this one really sets the bar on being balanced because I never feel overwhelmed by one weapon and not another. The game types are your standard fare like death match and team death match with some neat additions like Oldcore that makes you feel like you're playing an FPS straight out of '98. The rank system, not unlike Halo 3 and Rainbow Six Vegas, rewards those who do good by giving them new equipment, camo, and perks to use against the opposition. Most of the equipment is beneficial in some way if you like to use it and most of the perks are useful to someone in some way or another. Need that extra set of lungs to hold your breath while sniping? Take the Iron Lungs perk. Wish you could shoot people through walls easier? Take the Deep Impact perk. The maps are well thought out and some really rock while others really suck. A particularly awesome level is called: Downpour which, while raining, is a really balanced map that rewards the keen eye as well as the keen trigger finger. All in all I feel this is by far the best multi player game available. Call of Duty 4 is mos def a contender for game of the year even if it does have some stiff competition.
