Just wondering Sandy/Josh, how many character are you two actually looking at for the RPG ?
There is no set number, but it will be a fairly large cast based on the quality of sign-ups we have received so far. It's going to be very difficult for us to pick and choose who makes the cut. -Shy
Another question, though. Are we going to get any more info on the occupations? More in-depth, I mean. Like a Chronicles addition or something like that. I realize (or I'm assuming) that a lot of the RPG's details are going to come from the players themselves, but... yeah XD Just curious.
If there's anything specific you'd like to know about your occupation (or anything else in the game) feel free to ask, but most of the information about your character's job, history, etc. will be coming from you. Having said that, certain parts of Czenovian life (such as Chiamera Creation or Airships) will probably require more detailed information written up about them later on. While Sandy is working on a skeleton for the family tree, nothing is set in stone yet. We'll probably run a rough draft by the final cast once sign-ups are closed, but that won't be until at least after the weekend. -Shy
I have a quick question, though... is there any chance of creating a character who is the child of Anna Grimalkin? I know in the Auditions thread it says that you can make a character who's a very close family friend, and I figure the child of a woman who lived with the family counts, especially if said child was raised in Rosengard with the Almagest children.
A child of Anna Grimalkin would be very do-able. I think inwardscream had created an adopted child of Anna's, but there's no reason she can't adopt in addition to having her own kid. -Shy
Wasn't online most of yesterday but after thinking about my sign up, did you, Shy and Sandy, want me to change it because of its similarity to Raiha's? I don't really think there's much of a problem with it but I thought I'd ask because they're a year apart and both working with Chimaera production.
I think your characters are different enough to stand out from one another, but if you want to change your character feel free. We are all playing as one large family, so it's likely that many of the characters will have certain similarities. The most important thing for me is that you enjoy the character you are RP-ing as. -Shy
The character I made is the son of Leonhart Almagest, but with another spouse after the death of Beatrice. Is there any issue with this or should I turn him into an Almagest cousin? I was hoping to work in some forms of hostility with Raiha's and Shy's character due to his only being a half-brother, seeking approval and praise and not getting it just to add some extra dimensions to his character. Is there any issue with this?
I'm not sure about giving Leonhart a third wife, but I don't see a reason your character can't be a half-sibling of sorts. Leonhart Almagest is a larger than life character; I suspect he's got more than a few illegitimate children floating around... As I have said before, some slight retooling may be neccessary in order to make everyone's character fit under the same general umbrella. The existance of Darren's character in particular introduces a lot of NPCs that I'd simply rather not deal with. Hopefully we can adjust this somehow, but right now I'd rather players make the characters they want... we can sort out the bloodline later. -Shy
Just trying to be consistent with the ages here, since it's not very believable that Daedalus would've become a father in the age of 53... ;D
I know a lot of fathers who are well into their 50's, so I have no problem with that bit. I also wanted to say that I'm really pleased with the quality of sign-ups so far. We don't have a set number of players in mind. In fact, we're looking to include as many different players into the game as possible. I'd also like to encourage new players, or people who don't normally RP to give us a chance. Sandy and I can be a little.. imposing at times, but we have high hopes for the game and expect that it will be a lot of fun. So um, yeah. Just keep doing what you guys are doing. If you need any help with creating your character just let us know. -Shy :whoops:

Your name: Fauntleroy Almagest Your age: 33 Your position inside the Almagest family: Son of Leonhart and Lady Patrice. Your occupation: Photog. Fauntleroy works for “The Chronicle,” one of Czenovia’s most popular news journals, as a writer and photographer. Your story:
Fauntleroy is a clever, if not sometimes flamboyant young man struggling to escape from the Almagest’s large shadow. Despite attending the best schools and academies in Czenovia Fauntleroy has yet to make a name for himself. There have been several failed attempts at various occupations, including one within Magitech Corps., but each turns out to be an even greater disaster than the last. Currently Fauntleroy is exploring his newfound passion for photography by working for The Chronicle: his family is already taking bets on how long it will be before he gets fired. Fauntleroy and his father haven’t spoken for several years, despite the fact that they both regularly attend Almagest family functions. Leonhart sees his son as a disappointment for his lack of ambition, and prefers to pretend that he doesn’t exist. Other members of his family are more forgiving, but Fauntleroy would do anything for his father’s approval. High society fits Fauntleroy like a glove, and he rarely ventures outside of High Czenoble. While not politically minded, Fauntleroy is a strong supporter of the military and class system that puts him in a life of luxury. Like many other members of the nobility, it would seem he is unwilling to look past the stone gates of High Czenoble to the looming crises facing all of Czenovia and its’ citizens.
The third Chronicle is up. This one focuses on Leonhart Almagest, patriarch of the Almagest clan. Expect the Auditions soon. Sandy and I are working on them as we speak. -Shy

I think that's going to be my last post for a while. I simply can't come up with any new ways to hurt the characters. Hopefully another player can spice things a bit (or at least kill off the remaning characters and finish this thing.) Hm. -Shy
Well even if it is confusing... if the power cards work I'm fine. And it is true that any other god could simply step in and interfere with what happened. Since unlike Aaryanna's god their powers would not be limited since they haven't been ruled out from the Ragnarok yet. In other words Sandy, I have no problem with things going either way.
I edited my post, so everyone can carry on as if nothing happened. -Shy

Do whatever you want. It's your game. -Shy Edit: A couple of things first, actually.

I asked Aaryanna permission to use her character in this way. She was perfectly fine with is. I was also going to use Telumas, but the post simply got too long.
It's assumed that Aaryanna's God was banished. It's never explicitly stated what happened to her or Telumas.
They're Gods. They should be able to use whatever powers they want whenever they want. There is no reason the cards shouldn't work in the mortal realm.
Perhaps I did run a bit too far with this plot twist, but at this point the game is getting rather tedious. I only hoped to do something that would hold my interest until Ragnarok's conclusion. If I have to write another post about someone getting shot with an arrow or hit by a rock I think I'm going to cry. Otherwise, the game has been a lot of fun. I wasn't trying to ruin whatever you have planned. I can edit my post, or delete it, or whatever.

Just to clarify my most recent post, all of the mortal souls are on Earth. Jeanne wasn't transported to the same location as the others, so perhaps Treisleilai still has a few ideas on how to destroy Paraxis' game even further. Let's just say the Goddess of Sin is a sore loser, heh. When Paraxis finds out what happens he probably won't be pleased. Throwing our characters into the "real world" should make for an interesting finale. Oh, and didn't Marta kill her husband in Vienna? I hope the police aren't looking for her! -Shy
The other Gods seemed to be turning on Illyria. The Trickster’s brothers and sisters had been conspiring against him for millennia, it was no surprise that they would do so in The Ragnarok. He would wait, and plot and laugh. The time to act would be soon, and then Raone would see how this game was truly played. “You are falling for your own illusions,” Raone said as he motioned towards the pool, “I can sense your hostility, and I assure you that you are but a single player in a much larger game.” “As far as I’m concerned, brother, I am the only player in this game. I will not fall as easily as Telumas and Treisleilai did.” Jachym laughed, “We shall see. In this game nothing is certain.” “You are mistaken,” Paraxis replied, “In this game, and in all life, one thing is certain.” “And what is that?” Illyria asked. “Death.” Hardly any time passed before Naomi was finding herself infatuated with Charlotte. She knew that something was drawing her thoughts to the Frenchwoman, but there was little she could do to fight those feelings. It seemed to Naomi that even your own feelings could betray you in The Ragnarok. “You look beautiful tonight,” Naomi said as she ran her fingers along Charlotte’s neckline, “Maybe we should stop for a few moments to rest.” Charlotte angrily pushed Naomi aside, “I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but your advances are most unwelcome, Naomi! We need to keep walking, and try to find Kenneth before something terrible happens.” The two woman continued walking in silence for over an hour before finding themselves at the entrance to an enormous cave. Lit torches lined the stone walls of the cavern and it appeared that someone had been through there recently. “Stay close,” Naomi said as she cautiously entered, “If there’s trouble I’ll be able to protect you.” “I’ve heard that so many times before, Naomi. It’s impossible for me to believe you now.” Naomi tugged at Charlotte’s shirt, tearing it at the waist. “How can you speak to me like that after the way I feel about you?” “I don’t know where these horrible feelings came from, Naomi, but you are obviously mistaken. I am a proper woman, and I simply don’t think of you in that way.” Tears began to stream down Naomi’s face, “You bitch? I’m only trying to help you find your baby, and this is how you treat me? I hope you die! I hate you!” Naomi ran down the cave into the darkness, noticeably upset. Charlotte knew that it was best that they stayed together, but she simply couldn’t tolerate the girl's attitude anymore. “Naomi, wait!” she called out. Her voice echoed through the cavern but there was no reply. Insolent woman, Charlotte thought to herself, Sometimes I wish she had died instead of my poor Ian… For nearly an hour Charlotte walked down the cave quietly before heard a terrible scream. She rushed further into the cavern as fast as she could, only to find a terrible scene. Somehow Naomi’s clothing had caught aflame on one of the torches. Within an instant the young woman’s entire body was engulfed in an uncontrollable hellfire. “Naomi, no!“ Charlotte shouted as clasped her hands together, “Oh lord, what have I done?” Just as quickly as the fire started it seemed to disappear. The only reminder of the terrible blaze was poor Naomi, who lie on the ground with her body covered in terribly burns. Never before had Charlotte seen someone in so much pain. “Dammit...” Naomi said softly, “This hurts so much…” “What should we do?” Charlotte asked, “We’ll find you some medicine, or your healing power..?” Suddenly the ground began to shake violently, and several large rocks fell violently onto the cave's floor. "It's a cave in!" Naomi screamed, "You have to get out of here." "I can't leave you here like this. Let me help you." Charlotte reached for Naomi, but the second she touched Naomi's skin the girl started to scream in terrible pain. It was obvious that the injured girl wasn't going to be moved very easily. "Just go, Charlotte! Get out of here!" Charlotte nodded, and turned towards the exit of the cave up ahead. “Naomi. I’m sorry… I just don’t know if there’s another way…” “Charlotte, don’t… trust any of them,” Naomi said softly, “The Gods, your friends. They’re all going to betray you. You must protect yourself to win this game, you must betray them…” “I know, Naomi. Just as I am about to betray you.” Naomi closed her eyes, “…Thank you.” Moments later Charlotte stumbled out of the other end of the cavern, her eyes filled with tears and her hands red from Naomi’s blood. She turned around as the cave's entrance collapsed. "Naomi! No!" The young mother would never forgive herself for what she had to do that night, nor would she forget the warning that her friend had given her. She would stop this game and save her child, even if she had to kill everyone else in The Ragnarok to do it.
Dr. Mikhail Phantaxian was a playboy, a scientist, and above all, a criminal. His experiments on human beings made him famous, but it was the ones on his fellow Versillans that made him a legend. Like few others before him, Mikhail pushed the limits of Versillan physiology to the extreme, removing one body part at a time until ultimately he would lose the patient. Mercy was never an option, and neither was anesthesia. His first victims were his own parents, and when their bodies were discovered he packed up his research and went into hiding before he could be captured. Over the years many more of his “experiments” have been discovered in different Sectors, each more horrific than the last. Sadly he has inspired an entire generation with his work, creating a slew of imitators across the entire galaxy. Local peace officers are strained enough with the brewing civil war, and sadly too many of these cases simply fall through the cracks of the justice system. With the recent freedom of millions of undocumented slaves, Sector 11 has attracted this new breed of killer and endangered the live of citizens across Gallana. It was late in the afternoon, and Colin and Bright Eyes were growing very tired. Teela had promised the two that the Tribune would meet that day and discuss his family, but the young boy wondered if they were ever going to arrive. “When are they coming? Colin asked, frustrated from waiting the entire day in the small church, “We’ve been waiting all day!” Teela smiled and patted Colin on the head, “Just be patient. The Tribune are the only ones who might remember who dropped you on our doorsteps so many years ago, and they should be here any-- A small group of men and woman entered the Joyous Church of the Republic quietly, each wearing a colorful robe and hood. Teela turned to the strangers and kneeled. “Praise the elders,” she whispered as she clasped her hands together, “They are here, Colin.” Not sure what to do, Colin decided to kneel as well. Several others in the church, mostly elderly men and woman, bowed their heads as the Tribune passed by. “Let us begin this meeting of the Tribune immediately," one of the hooded figured announced, “Who among us are in need of faith?” Teela stood up, and motioned for Colin to step forward. “Um, I think I am, sir.” He said sheepishly. “What is your story, boy?” another one of the hooded figured asked, “What drew you to our humble church?” “My name is Colin, and me and my dog Bright Eyes are looking for our family. When I was a baby they dropped us in front of your church…” The hooded figured spoke amongst themselves as Colin told his story. He wasn’t even sure they were listening. Teela approached the Tribune, “Is there anything you know that could help the child?” “You must understand, it has been many, many years since this incident happened,” a voice from within the group replied, “Only a few of us have any recollection of finding you on that fateful day.” “Your story is all too familiar. During the time of your birth Gallana was filled with tragedy. The children of a thousand brave men and women were orphaned in such a short time. We can provide you sanctuary for the night, but we have just as many unanswered questions as you do. I don't know if we can be of any help to you.” Colin’s eyes began to well up and he immediately started running out of the church. Bright Eyes followed closely behind. “Colin, wait!” Teela pleaded, “You don’t have to run!” “Let him go,” a member of the Tribune said callously, “Gallana is full of hard luck cases. Helping them all is simply beyond our means.” The boy exited the church and immediately burst into tears. He had placed so much hope in traveling to Gallana, now what was he going to do? Colin suddenly felt a hand placed on his shoulder. He looked up to discover a fair-skinned man in a business suit. He had long black hair, penetrating silver eyes and a welcoming smile. “Hello there,” the stranger said, “I heard your story… Colin, was it?” Colin nodded. The man patted Bright Eyes on the head and motioned for both of them to follow them as he walked down the dark city streets. “I’m very sorry to hear that the Tribune can’t help you, but I may be in a position to. You see, I’m a doctor who runs a small trust created to reunite children with their families. If, for some awful reason, you can‘t be reunited with them we‘ll take care of you until you‘re old enough to take care of yourself.” The boy wiped the tears from his eyes as the man spoke, “W-w-what about about Bright Eyes?” “You mean the dog?” he asked with a laugh, “Yes, we’ll take care of Bright Eyes, too.” "Oh, good!" The stranger extended his hand towards Colin, “We can do great things together, Colin. What do you say?” “Okay, it’s a deal, mister!” “Mister? There’s no need to be so formal now that we’re friends. Please, call me Mikhail…”

As for the time constraints on the posts, it wouldn't necessarily have to be five minutes. I was just using that as an example. However, I think there should be a limit on the length of "game time" within posts (at least in the Real World thread - time flows differently inside a game than it does outside of it). Like you said, it would force the players to write more focused posts.
I'm not sure if this is relevant or not, but Solo Tremaine played around with the concept of real-time posting with his remake of Anime Stereotype High School. The Underground thread might be of some interest to you, since he went to the trouble of creating class schedules for each of the players. Ultimately that system may have hurt the RPG more than anything else, but it was a noble experiment and hopefully you can learn from some of their mistakes. I'd be very interested in seeing some 'mock posts,' for Crusaders of the Card Table, even if they are really short. I'm sure the dual posting system would be a little more clear to me if I saw some specific examples of how it would affect the game. -Shy
Just a couple of questions: you say that everyone will be part of the same family, but they won't all be related by blood - is that just a marrying-in thing, or is there something else to it?
While we would prefer that most of the characters be blood relatives, it isn't neccessary. Also keep in mind that this game will be focusing on at least three very different generations of Almagests, so it's entirely possible that a lot of the distant cousins or whatnot have never met before. You'll find some leeway on what actually makes someone a member of the Almagest family. There are characters who are connected by blood to the Almagests and simply don't know it yet. There might also be close family friends who aren't connected by blood, but are still considered to be an Almagest. The family tree will be posted after the Audition proccess is complete, but you will be able to find some more information the key members of the Almagest clan soon.
Secondly, is there some kind of hierarchy in Czenoble? As in, does it work down from a King or Queen, or Prime Minister or whatever, through the aristocrats, or is it more like a Senate kind of deal?[/SIZE']
Right now I can say that due to the class structure in Czenovia not all citizens have the same political rights. While there are legislative bodies in Czenovia elected by the general public, the most important decisions are made by the Dynast King and his advisors. The next Chronicle will probably be about The Almagest Family (following Auditions) but after that we'll be diving right into some of the political and economic factors that run Czenovia. -Shy
Once again, I see that someone has beaten me to the punch...
The Landmark System is more James' idea really. You'll see some slight tweaking here and there, but I always liked his idea and thought it might be fun to implement it in The Almagest Legacy. Everyone must join! Anyway, Crusaders of the Card Table sounds absolutely dreamy. I was a huge DnD nerd in high school, so this is right up my alley. I have some concerns about the 'Five Minutes to a Post' rule, but it may actually benefit the players since they are kind of forced focus on dialogue as opposed to action. This gives you, the Game Master, a lot of room to control the story since there is only so much damage your players could do in five minutes, so to speak. I have a lot of relatively small questions about the gane, but it's definitely something I'd be interested in doing. -Shy
What's the limit to alchemic abilities?
The rules of alchemy will be only loosely defined for purposes of the game, since the alchemy itself will be secondary to character interaction and the stories being told. In this game it's basically a hodgepodge of sorcery and various fields of science. Most alchemists use their gifts for medicine, science and art, but there are probably a few combat alchemists in this world as well. More information about alchemy will become available when portions of The Chronicle are released. It's likely the character sign-up may ask what your character's alchemical speciality is (if they have one at all,) so start thinking about that. We'll be looking for creative uses for Magitechnology, and not just people who know how to make GunSwords.
EDIT: This is a revoloutionary new RP, so what are the other features besides the Landmark System? Is there like some kind of Character Creation and stuff like that? Or is it through the story?
Another interesting aspect of The Almagest Legacy is that every character is a member of the same family. Not everyone will be related by blood, mind you, but all characters will have some relation to one another. We feel this will get a lot of the boring character introductions out of the way. Beyond that, wait and see. -Shy
As for other cards, I'm quite sure that Shy has others, which is why I made the counter suggestion of a take down Shy campaign. I'll make cookies! ;)
I know a challenge when I hear one. It's on, my dear. As for a 'Take Down Shy' campaign, while you've done some serious damage so far I assure you that I'm not out of the game yet! -Shy
-
Now that sounds cute. :catgirl: And fun at the same time. But before I would even dream of considering something else I would want some idea as to what to expect rating wise. After all I do like knowing what I'm getting into and would hate to have to leave like I did with the FQFG.
While Sandy and I haven't discussed the rating per se, I'd like this RPG to remain firmly within the [PG-LV] range. Especially violent, or objectionable posts won't be welcome here, and no doubt we'll be keeping that in mind when choosing the players. Remember that we are keeping to the Victorian setting. Proper ladies and gentlemen simply don't do those sort of things. -Shy
-
One thing I would like to mention about the RPG is how posting will work. A lot of RPGs are using a Chapter System these days, in the sense that the Game Creator tells the players exactly what needs to be accomplished within their posts. That won't be happening here. We're using something called The Landmark System, which is a variation of something used in Hybrid Vigor (among other places.) The idea is that the story will be going on regardless of your player's actions, and that certain events, objects and discoveries will push the story forward with or without your involvement. After all, Czenovia is a big place. For example: Rather than telling Sandy that his character needs to track down the kidnappers, I might post up a 'Wanted' poster (a "Landmark") in the main thread featuring some of the most likely suspects, a brief description, and their last known whereabouts. Now Sandy's character (or anyone interested in solving the kidnappings) has an idea of how to start their search, although the finer details are totally up to them. Other examples of "Landmarks" might be newspaper clippings, puzzles, or even songs. These will cover a wide cross-section of plots and sub-plots both directly and indirectly, so it should help give the sense that Czenovia really is bigger than the players who inhabit it. Aside from trying not to contradict anything Sandy or I put into the RPG, players have complete freedom to do whatever they want. But I do hope the story will be compelling enough to keep at least a few characters focused on the main plot. -Shy
-
As a host, why on earth would I delete myself from the game, anyway? XD
I'm asking more in regards to the Undead Card, which is most... troublesome. It's good to hear that the card is going away soon. -Shy
EDIT: December 3rd. Late December I could handle... but this is going to feel like such a rush job. Besdies, now there are only four episodes left. Boo.
It should be noted that December 3rd's episode was always planned to final one for Volume 2. Two endings for that episode were filmed in case the writer's strike happened, so a lot of the dangling storylines should be wrapped up by the end of the year. Adam actually makes for a pretty brilliant villain. I'm not sure he's going to be worth all of the build-up, but Linderman didn't show up until most of the way through Season 1 and he was awesome. I'm quite fond of St. Joan. She's the only new character I give a darn about. -Shy
