"Where is Platypus? Ploppy!" I shouted furiously, trying to clean the hummus off of my pants with a rag. Ploppy looked over the set of monitors before him. He was obviously still distracted from the guilt of accusing Japan. We had a 50/50 chance. Given the information I know I would have made the same choice. "I can't find him on any of the monitors," he replied, "But to be honest I'm checking for casualties right now." "Casualties. You don't think..?" "It was a BOMB, Grape Ape." "Right, right. Inform me once you find anything." Birmingham entered the room. "It appears we have some visitors." "Not another attack!" Ploppy exclaimed, "They just got the vending machines. What more could they want?" "No, no," he replied, "They're from OB Central Command. And they're carrying clipboards." Oh crud. That's right, kids, we have several more new recruits. Please be sure to welcome them into the RPG with open arms, and continue to survey the damage done to our base by this most recent attack. New players: Please write an introductory post for yourself and come up with a clever callsign that we can call you. The next challenge will begin in the next couple of days. Be prepared for anything! - Grape Ape
Personally I feel that paientce, which I don' have, is what I need for the new skins. i say as long as we get new skins, we shouldnt' cart about tht wait. why? Because, platic surgery doesn't happen in a *poof* does it? Neither deoes graphic design! So James shouldn't be put into a hurry by anyone!
I don't think anyone was trying to rush James. You have to remember that before these more recent skin updates it had been years since any significant graphic changes have been made to the face of OB. James is entitled to make whatever kinds of skins he wants. But it's not fair to completely dismiss everyone's opinions when we are left with so few options. -Shy

Even with my cruddy camera phone my dog is cuter than yours! Her name is Patty, she is a 9 month old English Bulldog and she might be the love of my life. I wish I could accurately describe the joy she brings to me... I've always had dogs and cats growing up but I think I appreciate having the companionship that much more now that I am living on my own. Like most bulldogs she is very stubborn, but Patty is too much of a baby to cause into any real trouble. I'll see if I can't get any 'real' photographs of her to post. The image quality of my cell phone photographs are awful. -Shy

Is there any meaningful way we could combine this newspaper and Otakupedia? I fear that the OB Newspaper has been at least partially responsible for draining the talent pool for Otakupedia. Both of them seem like worthwhile projects with basically the same goal. Even if we could just retool old newspaper articles into Otakupedia entries that would cool by me. -Shy

Seriously, I need advice (trying to commit evil)

If she's an attractive teacher then she most likely has no trouble with the getting of sex. You're also assuming that her feelings of attraction towards you (if any) are stronger than her fear of being fired and/or sent to prison. Just the same, I admire your spirit. How will you get her drunk when you aren't old enough to purchase alcohol? Keep us posted! -Shy -
Japan entered the conference room holding a tray of hummus proudly. ?What was that poetry all about?? She said, ?I figured you guys were so busy in here that I should try my hand at making Afghan food for dinner.? Her fellow team members held their mouths open in awe. It seemed obvious that Japan was the traitor, but it seemed that she wasn?t even trying to hide her allegiance to the terrorist movement. ?Aren?t you supposed to be a secret traitor?? Gadget asked, glaring at the girl. Platypus covered her nose to protect herself from the smell of Japan?s cooking. ?And that doesn?t smell like hummus should! I think I?m going to be sick!? Platypus knocked Japan aside and ran out of the conference room door. ?What is all this talk about me being a traitor? What gave you that idea?? ?It?s simple deduction, my dear terrorist,? Shades said in a condescending tone of voice, ?Your known affection towards Charles and your lack of involvement in our missions stand out like a sore thumb.? ?Mmm?. Terror, anyone?? Ploppy added. A single tear rolled down Japan?s cheek as she finally realized what everyone was talking about. ?You? you think I?m the terrorist?? Mother locked eyes with Japan, a look of disappointment on her face. ?We don?t think. We know, dear.? Japan threw her hummus onto the ground in a fit of rage. ?That?s not right. If you knew what I was put through as a child?? She paused for a moment. ?I didn?t think I would have to share this information with you, but your lack of trust has left me with little choice. When I was a child I was kidnapped by OtakuBoards terrorists. It was there I met a man named Charlie Bin Laden, a man I developed feelings for. It wasn?t until much later that I discovered my love wasn?t real, but a result of the Stockholm Syndrome I had developed as a coping mechanism.? ?Stockholm what?? Peacock asked, sipping a martini. ?Stockholm Syndrome is a psychological response sometimes seen in an abducted hostage,? Webster said as he reached for one of his psychiatry textbooks, ?The hostage shows signs of loyalty to the hostage-taker, regardless of the danger in which they have been placed. ? ?Yes,? Japan said with a nod, ?That. While I still loved to my OB, I found the life of a message board terrorist exciting. However, over time I became disenchanted with the violent methods they used to achieve their goals. On the night before my arranged marriage to Charlie Bin Laden I escaped, vowing to fight against those I once knew as my friends.? ?That would explain the burka you were wearing when I recruited you for the CTU.? I added. ?But you?ve openly expressed sympathy with the terrorists!? Sanguinius shouted, ?This is absurd!? ?No more than letting a former prisoner join our ranks.? Mother replied. Japan ran her fingers through her hair and sighed. ?While I admit that I still? yearn for my beloved, my belief in the CTU is far too strong. I would never betray any--? ?--WHAKKOOOMM!!? A loud explosion rocked the halls of CTU headquarters, knocking several of us to our floor. I stumbled to get back on my feet as the room broke into chaos. Treu entered, his face covered in ash. ?We?re under attack! There was an explosion near the vending machines!? "What?" Shades asked, "How can that be?" I knew. ?Platypus??

Suddenly nonsensical, lyrical poetry began blaring through the CTU speaker systems. ??The separated is endless, the darkness CLEAR!!! Did you ever put aside the turmoil put inside??? ?What in the hell in going on?? I shouted into my comm unit. ?We?re being Mitch-slapped, sir!? Ploppy said, his voice being overwhelmed by that of Copycatalyst?s, ?Give me a moment and I should be able to override the signal.? ?Allow me!? Gadget said as he reached into his pocket, ?Go-go Gadget Signal Scrambler!? The agent quickly withdrew a small remote control and began entering a seemingly random combination of buttons. Within an instant the speakers grew silent, and things were back to normal. ?Excellent work, Gadget. Now that that?s settled,? I said as I reached for a bottle of water, ?It?s important that we reach a final verdict. Someone needs to stand up and say something definitive.?

Once again I had been transported to a strange yet familiar place. I was standing at the top of a hill, surrounded by vast wastelands on either side. A simple gravestone lay before me, the name obscured by years of dirt and neglect. ?I?m sorry, A voice called at me from behind, ?But registration is closed for new members. You?ll have to try and come back some other time.? I turned around and was shocked to see DigitalBoy2007 standing before me, wielding a mod rod. I would recognize that face anywhere, but something about him had changed since the last time I saw him. For one he now seemed much older. ?2007DigitalBoy! It?s me! Shy! It?s great to see you, you colossal tool!? He thought for a moment and raised his eyebrow. ?I don?t know any ?Shy.? But all of the member accounts were deleted in the SpamPornBot Crusades of 2012. It?s entirely possible that you?re an older user and your information was lost.? ?Oh, and also,? He added, ?I go by 2014DigitalMan these days. I?d appreciate you treat me with a little more respect, seeing as I'm the Administrator of this site.? I was speechless at this revelation. ??Admin?? ?But of course,? He said with a laugh, ?Someone had to run the boards after James left to pursue his dream of becoming a Baptist Minister. I hear he and his wife are very happy now.? ?And what about Dagger?? ?She grew tired of mortal affairs, and rejoined her family on the Moon.? ?And Desbreko?? 2014DigitalMan lowered his head. ?Someone kicked him in the nads one day, and he was never the same...? This was most certainly the future that the others had warned me about. I could only imagine what role I had in this, if any. ?Yeah? there are only a few of us now?? 2014DigitalMan said with a sigh, ?Myself, Aaryanna_Grandmother, OtakuBot and Deathknight. Things aren?t very active anymore. We mostly just talk about socks now? in the Sock Forum.? Tears began welling up in my eyes. I couldn?t believe what I was hearing. ?How could this be? This place used to be so vibrant, so alive.? ?It all started around 2007 or so? a legendary spam war turned the boards against themselves, and before we knew it we had a mass exodus on our hands. Then Charlie Bin Laden was elected Emperor by the OtakuBoards Senate, and Shy? oh, poor Shy.? 2014DigitalMan stopped speaking for a moment, overcome with grief. He wiped a single tear from his eye. ?Wait, didn?t you say your name was Shy?? ?Yes, that?s what I?ve been trying to tell you. What happened?? ?I remember now. It?s funny you go by that name, too. You?re standing right on the original Shy's memorial.? The sound of thunder echoed throughout the sky and I frantically began wiping dirt from the unmarked grave. All this time my online fate stood directly before me: A pauper?s grave at an abandoned anime message board: Here lies Shy: Banned January 24, 2009 ?He was a smelly terrorist.? - - - - - - I opened my eyes to discover that I was sitting at my chair in the CTU conference room. Mother, Ploppy, Gadget and the others were sitting around me, their eyes curiously focused on me. ?Are you okay, Grape Ape?? Gadget asked as he offered me a bottle of water. ?Ever since you came back from the Art Studio you have been weird,? Peacock added, ?Did you party a little too hard last night? I know I did!? Was it all a dream? Was everything that had just happened a bit of fantasy, or had I really been confronted with a vision of things to come? ?I--I?m fine,? I replied softly, reaching for one of the folders in front of me, ?I am now able to reveal the identity of the three suspects to you?? ?Don?t bother, Ploppy said, ?We figured them out already. Mom is 1, Platypus is 2, and Japan is 3.? '...oh.' 'Weren't you paying attention?' Shades asked, 'Mother cried about it and everything.' Platypus rolled his eyes. 'I swear. It's like Grape Ape is in another time zone most of the time...' A sense of pride overcame me. Even in my absence the team had been able to put the pieces together. Maybe I was not as integral to the success of the Counter-Terrorism Unit as I had thought. They would figure this out, with or without my help. ?Then I guess there is only one more thing to figure out...? Everyone nodded in agreement.

I reappeared in a dark room that seemed to have been collecting dust for months. Though the lighting was sparse I could recognize where we were: The Community Events forum. Adam was no longer standing before me, but instead a character I had created long ago. He was a dark male figure in a full, flowing cape. He stood over six feet tall and had a slight, athletic frame shrouded in a black metallic costume to cover his body. The few highlights of color were on his chest - a logo of some sort - the letter ?A,? in crimson red, and a set of faint, glowing eyes. ?Arbiter?? I said, ?Why do you visit me now?? ?I arrive when I am needed. You and I have unfinished business.' I knew what he said to be true. While I had many great moments as Event Master, the failure of The Legionnaires still continued to haunt me. ?I?m sorry, Arbiter. I never meant to leave your story dangling like that.? The Arbiter only nodded. Ripped up pieces of manga littered the floor like confetti. It was as if a great party had suddenly sprang up, and ended just as quickly. ?Is this a vision of things to come, specter?!? I asked nervously, ?What has become of my once-beloved forum?? ?Without a sense of community a Community Events forum serves little purpose, Shyguy511.? ?But what of White? I put this place in capable hands!? ?The one you speak of has allied himself with dark forces, while this war of yours only serves to divide the members of our community. White will reclaim his throne as Event Master when he has a strong and united community to serve.? The thought hadn?t crossed my mind before, but I wondered if The Arbiter?s words were true. Could this battle of ideologies do more harm than good? ?I don?t want to see anymore, Arbiter! Take me back to CTU headquarters!? Darkness emanated from The Arbiter?s cloak and spread across the floor, swallowing up the room. ?You are not a part of this willingly,? The Arbiter?s voice echoed through the darkness, ?We have one final stop to make, Shyguy511...? - - - - - - - Be sure to check out the new official Final Quest for Glory 2 wallpaper in the wallpaper thread. It's way cool, and I'm very proud of it since I'm Photoshop-illiterate.

The last thing I remember was Charlie Bin Laden and a wave of felines, each hungrier and more annoying than the last. Before I could react they had tackled me to the ground, meowing and scratching mercilessly. I had underestimated by opponent, a huge mistake. Perhaps? I thought, Perhaps this would be my last mistake. It wasn?t long before I lost consciousness from the pain. Charlie must have assumed I was dead, because even though I was unconscious I could somehow see him walk away from the battlefield. He shed a single tear, perhaps mourning the loss of a worthy opponent, and summoned his cat army to follow him back to Jihad headquarters. I saw my own damaged body laying against the desert sand, and then it hit me. Charlie Bin Laden wasn?t leaving me for dead, I was dead. A million thoughts raced across my mind. Many were about my beloved OtakuBoards and Counter-Terrorism Unit, while others involved more trivial matters like my potted plants and comic book t-shirt collection. I would never have a chance to be with any of those things again; I just wondered how long it would be before I came face to face with my maker. Suddenly a brilliant burst of light spread out across the desert sky and a single figure appeared before me. It was a man I hadn?t seen in ages, the original OtakuBoarder: Adam. ?Shyguy511?? he said with a grin across his face, ?Your time has not come. You are needed in the coming battle.? ?But I?m dead! Charlie Bin Laden and his terrorist cats ambushed me!? ?Death is only a setback, my friend.? Adam pointed his hands towards the horizon, and my eyes quickly followed. Another brilliant burst of light filled the sky, and instantly we were transported to the CTU headquarters. The mood was somber, like that of a funeral, and a few team members were huddled together in the conference room. Mother reexamined a handful of notes she had spread out across the desk before her, each containing a question for the suspects. I could feel her anxiety. She worried that perhaps she had chosen the wrong questions to ask, and also whether she would be able to find the real traitor. ?Do not bother to interact with them, Shyguy511,? Adam announced, ?They cannot see or hear us.? ?But Ad---? ?---I am not the Adam you know! I am merely a projection into your consciousness, taking a form from of the OtakuBoards you once knew. For you to win this battle you must look towards the future.? ?Can I still call you ?Adam??? ?Um? yeah? I guess that would be fine.? Mother stepped before the other members, shuffling some notes of his own nervously. She was an especially perceptive member of the organization, but I wondered if any of them had yet discovered the true identity of the traitor. ?Even if it's only to say you don't know who it is, please, speak up,? Mother shouted, ?We cannot afford to be silent at a time like this!? ?Truer words?? Adam replied sagely. The others looked around the room nervously, waiting for someone to speak up. The silence in the room was deafening. ?Maybe if we knew their identities?? One of the agents muttered to themselves. ?I know! I can help you!? I screamed. Adam began to chuckle to himself. ?Do you not understand my words, Shyguy511? As far as they know you are dead.? ?I don?t care. Someone has to step forward and do something. This apathy is sickening!? The silence continued. ?Your concern for the boards is admirable,? Adam said, ?But we have more to see before you can return to the land of the living users.? ?And where is that?? Adam reached for my hand, and everything turned to darkness.

While it's somewhat normal for both boys and girls to be confused about their sexuality through puberty, there are a lot of people who simply don't 'grow out of it' when they get older. If you are developing significant emotional and sexual attraction towards someone it's probably not just a phase. You are very young, though, and it can be incredibly difficult to sort out a lot of these complicated new feelings and emotions. I was somewhat lucky in the sense that I determined which side of the fence I fell on at an early age. Just the same, I experimented with the opposite sex up until my graduation from high school. If you truly are 'bi' then my best advice would be to focus exclusively on women for the time being, since growing up gay in a conservative town can be a nightmare and dangerous. Having said that, you need to be honest with yourself and with the people you feel you can trust. One of the first places I came out to were these message boards, and I looked to this place as a safehaven from the tremendous pressure I felt growing up. I would recommend finding an outlet where you can be yourself, whether that be here, a close friend's house, a private blog, or at home with your family. If you think that coming out to your best friends or certain family members will help relieve some of this stress, go for it. You should keep in mind though that letting someone in on a secret creates added pressure for that person to keep it. It may ultimately strain the relationship, and I've known very few people able to keep something like this hidden for long. As for the crush: He's straight. Trust me. They always are. -Shy

Art The Desktop Screenshots/Wallpapers Thread [image heavy]

I really like your wallpaper, Charles. It captures the danger of being a terrorist perfectly and combines it with your love of cats. Here is my current wallpaper, and yes, I made it myself. I'm still learning Photoshop, so give me some credit here. Personally I like the top banner, and I think a monochrome skin would be kind of neat. We could even put Bosko on it! I also agree with Semjaza that we should have this new skin as a third skin, as opposed to replacing the original Liquid one with it. -Shy

My vision for an 'ultimate' RPG is something that changes with every new project that I do. At the time I thought things like 'hero' and 'Vignette' were the most I could ever possibly want to do, and then down the line I ended up creating something else entirely. At the moment I'm leaning towards doing something fantasy-based. Let me try to elaborate. The genre for this would most definitely be fantasy, but would contain a lot of elements of science-fiction, steampunk and history as well. My story would take place at the dawn of the 20th Century in a dystopian vision of New York inspired by Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, and Fritz Lang's 'Metropolis.' This is a city where submarine voyages, journeys to the Moon and machine men are not only possible, but happen on a regular basis. Anything can (and does) happen. I only hope that the world within the RPG captures the sense of adventure and freedom that writing and films from this period did. Having said that, New York is a very dark place. Crime, poverty and disease run rampant throughout the city, and everything is seemingly run by a corrupt ruling class of the rich and powerful elite. This is no place for a poor child, but as luck would have it that is what our story centers around. This is the simple story of a young boy, his dog, and their journey to find a family for themselves in this crazy world. Along the way they would make new friends, explore the city of New York, and perhaps stop an invasion from Mars. The other characters would be the diverse and eccentric friends our main character makes along the way. While the story would have a lot of dark themes and ideas in it, I definitely want an [E] rating for this project. I don't think that an [E] rating neccessarily means 'Care Bears.' The Narnia and Oz stories can be very dark at times, but are something that people of all ages can enjoy. While this is a very straightforward story, there would be a lot of room for exploration and creative freedom by the players. I want an RPG where players don't feel confined by the story, and genuinely want to post and contribute. The pace would probably be slow, since I imagine players might want to put a little more thought and effort into their posts than they might normally. I would choose the number of players based off of the quality of my sign-ups, but I doubt I would have more than five or six active players at any given time. The story would most likely be broken up into three self-contained sections, and each section would have a different sign-up and thread. So um, that's it. -Shy

I agree with Zeke. The more I read the rap the more I enjoy it. If Sandy doesn't choose you as the winner of this round I will be sorely disappointed. -Shy

The plot thickens! These are the last answers, but which one is the traitor?
1) Well that depends on which answer would save the most lives. 2) As far as I know I get along well with the rest of the members and that they like me as well. 3) At the moment I visit the Adventure Square the most. As for the least probably Hardwired since I don?t play video games at all so there?s usually nothing for me to comment on in that area.

1) I would much rather live to continue the fight. Dying doesn't seem very practical from any perspective. Especially not if there's a fight still going on. 2) Some of them Otaku's probably hate my guts, others consider me to be funny. Some call me snarky, though most probably find me brilliant and deadly hilarious. As they should. I've never really played a big part in any OtakuBoards event or thread, nor in anything else big in OtakuBoards now that I think of it, so I don't think I'm famous or anything. Now I really want to know where I stand with other members here. 3) I never ever visit the Anime Lounge (let stand the Manga Workshop) and don't intend to ever do so while I'm sober. I also don't spend much time in the Hardwired board. The forum I visit mostly is probably in the Art Studio while it is alive and I visit the Otaku Lounge a lot, sometimes leaving a witty comment in one of the threads. The Anthology and Square (under their old name, mind you) used to be my haven, but well, not anymore.

1) I'd rather die for it. 2) I have my close friends and that's all I need. Though, new friends are always nice. 3) I mostly visit Otaku Lounge and Anime Lounge. I visit the other boards when I'm bored or when I'm told there is something interesting. Otherwise, the other ones get the low end of the deal.
Okay, so now it is up for our team to decide which one is the traitor. Tomorrow night I will reveal which three members were our suspects, but try to make your decisions based off of the questions; the identity of the real traitor may surprise you! I will expect a final decision from our spokesperson by Monday morning, and then the next challenge will begin. Please post your theories and speculation here! - Grape Ape

DeathKnight DeathKnight (Ken) joined the boards on October 5th, 2001. He is a former moderator of the PC/Mac forum, and is known for his writing ability, dry humor and cutting sarcasm. Due to home schooling and an abundance of free time Ken became drawn to OtakuBoards through theOtaku.com?s Dragonball Z section. Immediately after joining he ?spammed it up,? posting over 60 times a day for nearly a month. These posts were first confined to the Dragonball Z and General Otaku (now Otaku Lounge) forums, but eventually spread into other gaming and creative writing areas of the boards. These initial posts put him in conflict with OB staff, but Ken always managed to just barely avoid moderator intervention and banning. However, the spammy nature of the Games & Stories (now Adventure Square) forum suited his posting style to a tee, and he soon found himself participating in and creating dozens of successful RPGs during this period. These included some of the most popular RPGs the boards have ever seen, including Mercenaries and Apocalypse. During his first summer on OB Ken signed up for OtakuBoards? first true ?event,? the legendary Otaku Big Brother 2. There he was responsible for giving life to Queen Asuka?s ?plushies,? and inadvertently spawned an OtakuBoards obsession that continues to this day. At the end of the competition Ken was chosen as the winner. Over time Ken?s post quality rose along with that of the boards, and in early 2003 he was chosen as a moderator for the PC/Mac forum. Due to the forum?s slow activity boredom quickly set in, and he chose to entertain himself by posting off-topic discussion and numerous profanities on a regular basis. It wasn?t long before this put him at odds with the rest of the staff, and he was de-modded within the year. Also during this time Ken served as a moderator of AE Boards, where he was also fired as a result of his personal conflicts with Rick Hunter. Despite this setback he has shown no animosity, and has remained consistently active since first registering. Ken takes great pride in the contributions he has made (and continues to make) towards raising the quality of discussion and creative writing on the site he calls his internet home. -Shy PS: Please feel free to add/edit the article for typos and factual errors. -
Time for another round of answers! Have you figured out which one is the terrorist?
1) Because there are so many innocent lives at stake. 2) Yes I do. I thought I was randomly forced into the Counter-Terrorist Unit (and the RPG, mind you) just because I replied to the sign-up topic. 2) Since when did I have a choice? Hm, there's some investigating to be done. Not at all. Though I used to spend a lot more time there. 3) Fresh and clean. You scare off the ladies (oops, spoiler) opposite gender when you're dirty. People in general, anyway.

1) Because I thought of it a fun thing to do. I mean, why not? I am bored out of my mind otherwise. 2) Heck no, too busy in the anime lounge and otaku lounge to care. Was told to join this so I did. Plus, I am too busy ogling cats. 3) The answer to that question depends on the situation. Yes I love to be clean, however, I do like rolling in the mud every now and then and making heavy messes with shaving cream and whipped cream...mmm, terror. Besides my messy yet creative personality, I do have my moments where I absolutely HATE being dity so I have to take a shower...but if no shower is available, a lake with suffice.
The final round of questions should be posted tomorrow, and then the following day we will receive the final set of answers. The minimalist style you portrayed in your post was very interesting. I like how powerful your words seem against the simple backdrop. I can't seem to make up my mind, so I'm probably going to post a few more wallpapers in this thread. Comment and critique, plz!
