1. [strike]What is left and can I have that?[/strike] #31: Downpour, please! -Shy
  2. I'm back from Vegas and had a great time, so if you guys need to move my competition forward or anything just let me know. -Shy
  3. I don't have any objections to the match ups. I was hoping to talk to someone about them on AIM, but I don't think I've seen any of you guys online... hm. But yes, the match ups seem fine. Hopefully we chose the right pairings for whatever the next competition will be. -Shy
  4. I won't be able to sign onto AIM until tomorrow probably, but... My AIM name is LOSTHISKEYSMAN, and I'm usually on from about 11 in the morning to about 3 or 4 PST. My screen name is private, though, so I'll have to add Matt and Tiana to my friends list (Zeke and White should already be there.) Hopefully we can get the list finalized and sent out to Sandy soon; I'm very eager to start the next challenge. I would like to add that I'm going to be out of town from Wednesday up until Friday and, ironically, I'll be going in Las Vegas. I have no doubt that the next round of challenges will be taking place during this time, so if our 'one-on-one' challenges are supposed to be taking place in an assigned order I'd prefer that my name be towards the bottom of the list. -Shy
  5. Jamie's new banner is now my favorite. See what little cosmetic changes can do to sway my opinion? It's fascinating, really. Let's just get this stuff finalized and move on. -Shy
  6. I actually like Tians's one more, although I do find it to be a little blurry. Jamie's is very nice, but it looks like an overexposed piece of film. Maybe it's just me, but I don't like that look. I think Tiana's would look great if the image were sharpened, and 'The Aces' were written in black test instead of white. The red completely overtakes the second banner, and changing the text color would add some much needed balance to it. So that's my opinion. Both look great, though. -Shy
  7. I would like to interact with Dr. Xing in some capacity when Ghost Fox awakes from the coma. He took her in without informing his superiors, and exploring their relationship would be fun. I had originally wanted to do some flashback posts, but I'd rather just wake her up at the start of the second act and start moving the story forward. There will be some mystery surrounding Ghost Fox, who claims to remember nothing of her past life, and I suspect Dr. Xing will want to get the bottom of that. The thought of having a highly skilled and amnesiac assassin at their disposal certainly appeals to Xing's superiors, but maybe there can be some tension between Xing and his bosses as a result. Beyond that, Ghost Fox still doesn't know why her former employer tried to kill her. Her next couple of posts will be about trying to solve that mystery, but she has to do it without Xing knowing it. -Shy
  8. No crimson, please. I like The Aces more than The Smoking Aces or whatnot. Other Red or classic Red would be my choices for the coloring. -Shy
  9. I just wanted to say that Raiha is my hero for getting Flash to cameo. What other exciting cameos can we expect to see next? -Shy
  10. 1) My name is Josh and I'm a 22 year old (just had my birthday) college student from Southern California. My interests include writing, comic books, journalism, video games, history, pop culture and just about anything nerdy. I have no specific career goals right now, but I would like to have my writing published in some form or another. I have had my writing published before in my high school and college newspapers, but I'm trying to set my sights for something with a wider audience. I'm majoring in English with a minor in American Studies. Sadly this means that I'll probably end up teaching. I'm co-running OrangeLazarus.net, a pop culture website, with my friend Tony, and while updates are fairly infrequent we're working very hard to make the site the best we can. To be honest, I'm spenidng much more time playing Pokemon these days than I am writing, but at least my Crobat is level 55(!) I've had quite a bit of interaction with the members of this team, the sole exception being Matt. Hopefully we can change that before everyone becomes really competitive and turns against one another. 2) The Aces seems like a good team name, and I'm struggling to find a more suitable one. Perhaps we could give the team a playing card/casino theme that we could somehow tie into the team banner? I'm very open to suggestions, though. 3 If we're sticking with 'The Aces,' I think using red or black would be the most fitting. 4) Three of the five of us have moderator experience, and because of that I'd rather give Tiana or Matt a chance in the leadership role. Tiana did a fine job with Team Argo, but I'd like to see what Matt can do with our new team. He has my vote! -Shy
  11. Question: Do we have to make banners/wallpapers/whatever? Can we use other media, like paper mache, quilting, or cat painting for these pieces? -Shy

As for the Steelix thing, that's kind of disappointing. I don't want a wild Steelix, I want to evolve the Onix I've had since level 10 or so. Oh well.
There's one thing he keeps whining about, and that's the abundance of old Pokemin and lack of new ones. He says of the 110 Pokemoon he's seen 54 were old and he's only seen 31 new basic pokemon, including babies (this is as of badge 7). He keeps whining about how there's too many Ponyta and Zubat [/B'] everywhere when there are plenty of Pokemon who could be there instead. Obviously he's enjoying the game altogether, though, since he won't put it down more than 10 minutes >_

    The Sleepers
Several hours had passed before Ghost Fox regained consciousness . It was morning, and she was now lying under the sheets in a simple wooden bed. Wherever she was had a small, but efficient medical staff, and it didn?t take the nurses more than a few moments to figure out that their patient was finally awake. The bed took up most of the space of the room. Various boxes laid against the walls, filling up the rest of the space. It seemed that the legendary Ghost Fox had to share a room with some kind of storage closet. She clutched against her chest tightly: still sore. As Ghost Fox traced her fingers up and down the center of her chest, she felt the hints of a small surgical scar. How long had she been unconscious, and what the hell was going on? An older, dark-skinned man in a lab coat entered the room. He held a clipboard to his side as he examined Ghost Fox from afar, writing notes on a sheet of paper but remaining completely silent. ?Mr. Hall,? read a photo ID badge on the coat. Mr. Hall approached Ghost Fox, sitting at the edge of her bed. He stared deeply into her eyes, and smiled. ?Do you notice anything wrong with your vision?? The man asked, ?Blindness is often a side effect from the anesthesia. Usually temporary.? ?Anasthesia?? The words burned in Ghost Fox?s throat, terribly dry from the previous day?s exhaustion. ?Of course. We?re not going to put under the knife without it. At least I?m not?? ?Who the hell are you?? ?Save your strength. I?m your primary care physician.? ?Motor skills seem fine,? the strange man mumbled to himself as he continued writing notes, ?She should be ready for Dr. Xing?s treatment by the afternoon.? The nurse nervously turned her gaze away from Ghost Fox?s. ?He made it very clear he wants her now, doctor.? The woman sheepishly replied. ?Such is life, I suppose. Go fetch the patient?s things and contact downstairs about transportation.? The doctor smiled at Ghost Fox for a few seconds, admiring his work, and signaled for the nurse to leave. ?You. Tell me.? Ghost Fox commanded as she pointed, ?Who are you?? It was then Ghost Fox noticed the tubes sticking out of her arm. Colorful liquids dripped from several bags and directly into her veins. ?I?m Doctor Hall,? the doctor leaned in closely to whisper, ?And as far as you should be concerned, I?m God.? Her memories finally began to connect with the conversation around her: Dr. Xing, the explosion. She wasn?t in the Di Yu complex anymore. ?Where am I?? Dr. Hall laughed as he took out his stethoscope from his coat pocket. ?Let?s just say you landed on the right roof, my dear,? he said as he placed the cold metal end of the device on her chest, ?You?re very lucky there aren?t yet any signs of damage to any of your internal organs.? There was a moment of silence as he checked her heartbeat. The man removed the stethoscope and placed his hand firmly on Ghost Fox?s lap. He looked down the hallway to see if anyone else was within earshot of what he was about to say. ?I?m going to be very clear about this, because I think I owe you that much as a doctor. The woman we found in the wreckage: she?s dead. Whoever you are, how you survived and what exactly happened? it?s in your best interest to forget all about it.? Ghost Fox found that the stranger began to tremble slightly as he spoke. ?Understand that the woman you were is dead. For your sake she has to be. What is about to happen to you, a forced coma? the drugs they use? a common side effect is amnesia and memory loss. This is all you need to remember. When you wake up, if you wake up, do your best to--? "Doctor." An unseen feminine voice said as it entered the room, a nurse, "How are her vitals?" She began to unhook Ghost Fox from the equipment carefully. ?Steady enough? steady enough.? "Excellent," the nurse smiled and handed him a sheet of paper, "Your payment will be transferred to your account, as promised." The woman unlocked the bed, and began rolling it out of the doorway. Ghost Fox?s eyes locked with the doctor as he left, and she struggled to find some sort of response to what he had told her. ?Thank you,? she said softly. Dr. Hall turned his gaze away, and sighed as his 'Jane Doe' rolled out of his care. The woman he had only just met still had a role to play; thanks to his expertise she would live to fight another day. He only wondered what a beautiful woman like that had done to gain the attention of The Sleepers.
Edit: Changed 'Xin' to 'Xing.' Whoops.

Everyone else is much further along in this game than I am. This is the first Pokemon game I've played since... Silver and Gold (maybe?) and I'm finding that this is the most difficult version yet. Part of this might be because I have a full team of six Pokemon, but leveling up/powering up my Pokemon seems much more time consuming than it used to be. I spent maybe an hour trying to up my Zubat so that he could learn 'bite' because the wild Pokemon I battle simply don't provide enough experience. I'm stuck in the grass town because Team Galactic has this... cat-thing that totally destroys all of me with its' Faint Attack. All of my Pokemon are in the range of level 10 - level 15, but have yet to evolve. I figure it's a matter of time before my starting Pokemon evolves, and from there my situation should hopefully improve. There is a lot to like about this game so far. Organizing items and TMs is so much easier, and I love using the touch screen during battle. The graphic improvements are also something worth noting, although I don't feel like they have progressed as much since the GBA days as I thought they would. The music still give me a headache, but I've always played Pokemon with the sound off anyway. So yeah, thumbs up. We definitely need to start a Pokemon tournament on here. White, I'm looking at you to organize this. -Shy

    The Sleepers
Ghost Fox ran through the upper corridors of the Di Yu complex, totally naked save for a simple, bloodied bed sheet she was using to cover herself with. Her heart was racing, her chest was bleeding, and she was running out of options. Following closely behind were three armed guards, chasing after her and firing poisonous capsules at the escaped prisoner. Contact with even one could mean paralysis if it went untreated for long. Ghost Fox didn?t have time to take any more risks. ?10... 9... Up ahead was a dead end. A reflective glass window, double plated just to make escape all-the-more unlikely. The guards stopped their pursuit, and began ordering her to step down, still fiercely pointing their weapons at her. ?8?7... Ghost Fox stared out the window for a moment. A twelve story plummet to her death, at least, but still better than the alternative. She withdrew a handful of surgical knives she had been concealing behind the sheet, and prepared to make her final stand. The guards continued barking commands at her, but at this point the only sound she could hear was the intense beating of her heart. Another round of shots were fired from the guard?s weapons, this time impacting with Ghost Fox?s shoulder. She stumbled back, and revealed her own weapons. ?6... 5... In an instant the guards dropped to the floor, all three of them bleeding uncontrollably from the knives that had been effortlessly tossed into their jugular veins. ?4... 3... ?No time, no time? She sighed as she reexamined the window, ?Perhaps this will get my point across.? ?2... With a powerful strike the assassin?s cybernetic hand smashed through both pains of glass, shattering them instantly. Ghost Fox took a step back, closed her eyes, and took a running leap into the great unknown. ?1... The shattered glass, flaming debris, and violent, chaotic screams began at the top floors, and worked their way down shortly after detonation. The fire from the Di Yu complex could be seen for miles around; a burning testament to revenge, and a powerful message to The Brotherhood of Infinite Longevity. Ghost Fox had raised the stakes in this game, but at that point there was little else for her to lose.
19.
Before the tardy bell rang once more the trio of dorks found their way into Miss Pedigrue's class, Ethical Mind Control 101. Miss Pedigrue had once fought crime and social injustice under the alia of "The Dominator," but now used her abilities towards much more noble pursuits, even if they didn't pay very well. She was an attractive, but tired looking woman in her mid-40's. So tired in fact that she was asleep at her deck when the last batch of students entered. "Justice never sleeps eh?" Dwight joked to Shy as they took their seats. The classroom was your typical one, books, pencils, motivational posters and plenty of students. Of course, that last bit was what differentiated Cheshire High from every other private school in the world: the students. "Dwight, my man!" one of the resident shapeshifters stuck their hand out to give Dwight a 'high five.' Today he had decided to be some sort of bird creature, although that would probably change by lunch. While in most places a nerd like dwight wouldn't pass as 'acceptable' here he was one of the more popular students. You see, when most of the graduating class has horns and fur the students tend to be less discrminating. "I have no idea who half of these people are," Dwight muttered, "Are you sure this is one of my classes?" Shy rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure. You'd know that if you actually showed up once in a while." "Semenaide kesanaide makenaide, dare datte motteru hazu yuzurenai mono, adiake yumedake kimidake...." Aizen continued singing to herself loudly in Japanese, slightly frustrating Shy. Miss Pedigrue awoke from her peaceful slumber, surprised to see the rest of the class staring at her. "Egads!" She shrieked, staring at her watch, "What period is this?" "Dooshiyoomonake ochi tsukanai yoru!" Aizen shouted! "Hm. Someone from 'Controlling Bodily Functions' must have overdone it again. I guess it could be worse..." The classroom giggled as Miss Pedigrue ran her fingers through her hair, discovering several spit-wads tangled in it. "Ugh, students," She groaned, "Now if you can please pass your homework forward, I'd like to discuss yesterday's lesson and perform a mental exercise. Any volunteers?"
20. I don't want my character to defect so early in the story, so I would like to postpone that for a later date. Ghost Fox's problems with The Brotherhood of Infinite Longevity are only going to get worse, but she's not at a point yet where she can risk going on her own or working with another organization. Her personal mission now is to uncover more information about Boss Fen's past, which will end up revealing the secret history that the two of them share. However, I would like her to cross paths with Dr. Xing eventually. It appears that Ghost Fox is going to be poisoned very soon. He seems the most appropriate man to heal her wounds... for a price, of course. -Shy
  21. I've been spending a lot of time in The Arena this week and I was wondering if anyone else remembered an awesome old RPG called Final Quest for Glory I can't recall who started it, but Charles, Raiha and I all posted in there pretty frequently around 2001/2002. The premise was truly original for its' time, and I'm thinking of coming up with a revamp/sequel. This really was one of those RPGs that changed the face of OB, very much along the same lines as Meteo City or Kill Adam. I remember there seemed to be some sort of issue with Final Quest for Glory being deleted, so if I were to write an Otakupedia article maybe I could include some information about that. Does anyone else even remember what I'm talking about? Charles? -Shy

    The Sleepers
Ghost Fox clutched tightly onto her chest as she struggled to climb up a nearby fire escape. Dead?s swift strike may have cracked one of her ribs, but she wouldn?t know for sure until she made it back to headquarters. Perhaps letting her target go was a mistake, but it was one that could be easily reconciled once she had a chance to recover. The sirens of ambulances and fire engines could be heard in the distance, and she knew for certain where they would be heading. Even several blocks away the smell of burning flesh was unmistakable. If they weren't all dead yet, the mafia-run "clean-up crews" would certainly finish the job. She had failed as a teacher. She had failed to protect her students. She would not fail again. After nearly an hour later Ghost Fox had arrived at her destination. The headquarters of The Brotherhood of Infinite Longevity was not a secret in this town. Quite the contrary. Boss Fen?s predecessors had an eye for civic planning, and used their political connections to secure prime real estate on the north side of town. The 25 story tall high-rise, lovingly referred to as ?Di Yu,? was the most beautiful in all of San Francisco. Reputed to be indestructible, the building has survived several bombings and earthquakes since its construction decades ago. This unique piece of architecture served as a very public base of operations for The Brotherhood of Infinite Longevity, and cast a long shadow over the entire bay area. Ghost Fox was always instructed to enter through a secure, private entrance underground. Tonight would be no different. She had reached the entrance through an abandoned subway tunnel, and approached the video monitor that was used to screen visitors. The monitor lit up as Ghost Fox approached, revealing an ancient, blind woman on it. She was Genji Chao, and had served as personal assistant to The Brotherhood?s leaders for generations. Even as a humble secretary she was the highest ranking woman in San Francisco?s mafia, but only rarely exercised her power. ?What business do you have?? She spoke slowly in her native tongue? ?Genji. It is the Ghost Fox,? the assassin replied, ?I must speak with Boss Fen.? ?Insolent woman, you will not give orders to me. Boss Fen is currently unavailable to speak to you.? ?I?ve no time for formalities, you witch!? Ghost Fox shouted, ?My pupils are dead because of false information Fen provided me. I demand an explanation.? The screen shut off quickly, and a moment later a hidden door adjacent to the monitor unlocked automatically. A long, dark hallway led from the door directly into Boss Fen?s private lounge, only he was nowhere to be found. Genji, enjoying a mint flavored cigarette through a long an elegant holder, sat on one of the couches. Ghost Fox grabbed tightly onto her chest once more, she could feel her own blood seeping through her jade-colored tunic. ?Genji?? she whispered as she fell the ground in pain. ?Are you injured?? Genji asked as she typed a few keystrokes onto a nearby touch screen, ?I?ll summon the doctor right away.? The old woman hobbled over to Ghost and ran her fingers through the woman?s long, dark hair. "It was his mistake that killed them," Ghost Fox sobbed as she drifted into unconsciousness. "I'm sorry to have trusted him." ?No dear? no... I?m sorry, that you returned?. ? She sighed, ?I think you?ll find that your suffering has only begun.?
23. Has it been established yet exactly how Dragon's Tongue will be used? I'm assuming it's injected into the bloodstream, but just want to make sure. I also wonder why anyone would bother to take the drug willingly, since it appears to be so incredibly deadly... Once Kitty begins posting I would like to arrange a meeting between our two characters. We both work for the same organization, so it seems fitting that our paths would cross as one point or another. I'm very much open to suggestions. -Shy

    The Sleepers

Ghost Fox stood atop the rooftops of San Francisco with her three pupils. They had worked tirelessly during their training, but tonight would be the night that they would prove their worth to The Brotherhood of Infinite Longevity. It was a simple job, or so they thought. Hit the target, grab the payload, and run. ?His name is Shi Aolie,? Ghost Fox said softly, pointing to the man they were observing from the rooftop, ? Although his peers ironically refer to him as ?Dead.? He was a handsome Chinese man, not much more than five feet tall. In spite of this fact, or perhaps because of it Shi Aolie had earned himself a reputation as one of the most dangerous strongmen in the city. The man approached a small nondescript building and tapped on the door. Dead and the person on the other side began an uncomfortable exchange. ?Who is Aolie meeting with?? One of her pupils asked. ?My informant tells me the other man isn?t of significance here. He is not to be harmed unless necessary.? ?You didn?t have to make this hard, Logan.? Shi shouted as he smashed through the door. There was some commotion inside, followed by sudden silence. The junior assassins turned towards their master for instructions. ?We expect the building to be empty,? Ghost Fox pointed towards that adjacent building?s roof, ?You three work as a team and attack from above. I will cover the only exit.? Ghost Fox leaped onto the streets below, and entered the building cautiously. Contrary to what her intelligence had said, the room was far from empty. Various chemical containers and vials filled the space. Dead?s junkie had apparently started to take a more? proactive role in his addition. Also of note was a wiry, skeletal junkie lying on the groud. Dead stood over the unconscious body of the junkie, wielding his baton in the way that a samurai would his sword. He turned around, his eyes following the sound of Ghost Fox?s footsteps. ?Ah fuck... I guess I?m not alone, am I?? He said with a sly grin. Ghost Fox remained silent, and drew her two pistols at the target. ?Heh,? Dead laughed as he wiped a bead of sweat from his brow, ?This guy wasn?t your boyfriend, was he?? Suddenly a spray of bullets rained down onto the room from above. Ghost?s students, each wielding their own pair of automatic pistols, began to fire wildly at Dead?s direction. Without hesitation Dead leaped underneath a nearby metal table, grabbing the junkie by the throat and using his body to provide cover. ?The chemicals!? Ghost Fox screamed as she dropped the weapon trained on her target and turned her attention towards the others, ?Single shots! Focus on your--!? Before she could finish her sentence a stray bullet crashed into one of the chemical barrels, causing a massive explosion of smoke and flame to fill the room. Ghost Fox immediately covered herself with her cloak and fell to the floor as a wall of flame washed over her. Violent coughs were punctuated by screams of pain coming from one of the assassins caught in the blast. Ghost Fox could barely see as far as her own hands, but knew the sound all too well. She had lost another student. ?Cover yourself!? She shouted, ?The mission is scrubbed.? Dead began crawling beneath the smoke, looking for a way to escape in the confusion. It was then he stumbled across Logan?s automatic weapon lying on the floor, still containing almost a full load of ammunition.
Edit: Some continuity issues resolved. Will work out the rest when I talk to Dead. -Shy
