Trivia- Many notable old members were involved in the PRP: Desbreko, Dragon Warrior, Chaos and DeathKnight, to name just a few.
I was also a part of the PRP, so ha. Also, I edited some more Altron Gundam information into your post, Solo, just so Charles doesn't have to later. Edit: Charles would you mind if I helped you edit posts into the main Otakupedia article? -Shy
  2. DeadSeraphim DeadSeraphim (aka Alan, aka Completely Random Hero, CrH, Alan, Aiyisha and René) is a popular member, renown throughout the boards for both his cynicism and technical ability. More often than not DeadSeraphim?s posts are controversial for their blunt honestly and sharp criticism of other members (and occasionally, the boards themselves.) He is usually thrown into the same category as members like PoisonTongue or wrist_cutter, but in reality his criticism is much more constructive and less personal in nature. His contributions to the community go beyond simply posting: he has served as collaborator and confidant to various OtakuBoards staff members throughout the years. This reputation was most likely formed as a result of his popular ?n00b Hunter? fan-fictions. These stories, inspired by Solo Tremaine?s ?OtakuBoards: Enter the Net,? featured Alan as a cold-blooded killer, hunting out members who continued to spam up the boards and exacting violent revenge on them. Much more adult and violent than other OB fan-fiction up to that point, n00b Hunter?s success helped to cement OB fan-fiction as a genre on the boards, and spawned countless imitators. Despite his own personal opinion of it, he continues to be one of the strongest writers on the boards, and has contributed to various high-profile RPGs such as The Legionnaires. Through OtakuBoards, DeadSeraphim found love in and eventually became engaged to Hevn. Although the wedding never came to pass, it remains the first and only online courtship and real-life engagement in OtakuBoards history. Deadseraphim also broke ground in the creation of Crappy Club for Jerks, a blogroll for members who have left the myOtaku community to post elsewhere He continues to remain active on the boards in discussion threads, always looking for ways to exploit the weakness in other?s intelligence, logic and humanity. n00b Hunter n00b Hunter [M-LV] is an OtakuBoards fan-fiction created by DeadSeraphim in December of 2004. 3.
-I linked to "Kill Adam" and posted the "Kill Adam" logo. Also, I edited out the part that complimented the RPG for having "high production values" since that doesn't make any sense unless James paid a lot of money for special effects or something. I changed these references to "excellent presentation."
That's perfectly fine. I always think of Kill Adam was being really cinematic nature, so I guess it slipped. At least, that's my excuse... Anyway, I need to take issue with this statement in the Down With Newbie Lounge Article.
Amid much controversy (including that generated by Mnemolth ? who still maintains that the Clown and Businessman analogy was misrepresented by everyone), the Newbie Forum was deleted, and with it, the last spam hub of Otakuboards. Not since has there been such intense spam activity.
You're forgetting about the Yu Yu Hakusho forum. I'll try to come up with entries for both that and the .hack//SIGN forum, although Azurewolf would be much more qualified to handle the latter. It feels really masturbatory to write a lot of these articles. I think I'm going to try and focus on writing about things I didn't have a lot of direct involvement in for the time being. -Shy
  4. Both Gavin and White have demonstrated a failure to deal with member criticism effectively in the past. As current and prospective staff, I feel this is an important skill to master. Although your... failure was the most public of the three, this assignment wasn't just geared towards you specifically. You know I love ya Sandy. I want you all to suffer equally. -Shy
  5. Add to or edit this however you like, kids. Kill Adam Kill Adam was a groundbreaking RPG created by James in November 2003. It garnered much praise and attention due for its adult content, high production values, and the quality of members who participated in it. These included Shinmaru, Shy, Queen Asuka, Generic NPC #3, Heaven?s Cloud, Babygirl and Hinata (formerly sweetreyes,) who never officially posted. Directly inspired by Kill Bill, the original premise was to create an RPG where OtakuBoards members could run around a highly stylized world fighting Tarantino-esque versions of one another. Almost immediately the idea grew to feature Adam, theOtaku?s site founder, and the popular OB clique ?Adam?s Angels? in prominent roles. The RPG was structured after the films which inspired it, and Kill Adam?s story unfolded in self-contained ?chapters,? which often took place out of chronological order. Kill Adam is the story of two assassins, Jamie and Joshua, who lost their adopted son at the hands of their crime lord boss. In an effort to strike revenge on Adam for their loss the lovers began an all-out war against him, with much of the action taking place on the streets of Japan. These battles were incredibly graphic in nature and directly inspired the creation of Arena Thread Ratings. Kill Adam was also the first official use of the ?Chapter System? of RPG posting. Prior to this all RPGs were much more freeform, and writers would post as often as they like. With the Chapter System in place things became much more structured, and players could only post when the RPG?s creator felt it necessary to the story. Kill Adam also featured html and music within posts in a way that hadn't been seen before, barring notable exceptions such as Project Gamer. High production values and strong writing made the RPG a hit both with participants and non-participants alike. However, it did create added pressure for members in the Adventure Arena to focus on the aesthetic value of their projects rather than simply the writing. This ?Post Kill Adam World? of The Arena became less active than it was in the past, but the writing was stronger than it had ever been. This pressure was also felt by the participants of Kill Adam. Month-long gaps would occur between posts, and the first half (Kill Adam: Volume 1) concluded in June 2004. The second half of the story (Kill Adam: Volume 2) began a month later, but currently remains unfinished due to the same problems that plagued the first. 6. Interview Two - Dealing With Members In your brief time as Jr. Event Masters you have come under attack in a variety of ways. Some have been pointed towards your events, while others towards you as a member. The way you handle these comments defines the way others view you on the boards, and is one of the most important things you need to understand as an OtakuBoards staff member. Two of you are currently OB staff members, so your difficulty in dealing with criticism (constructive or otherwise) already reflects poorly on the boards. You should be aware that these members who speak so poorly of you have rich histories on the boards as well, and many speak from their own experience as former (or current) staff members. With the creation of Otakupedia I think we have a ripe opportunity to look back and learn about these rich histories, so this week that is exactly what we're going to go. Rather than just a straightforward interview, you have a small research assignment as well. Research and write an Otakupedia entry about one of the members who tried to provide you constructive criticism in this very thread. Choose any member you'd like except for Papa Smurf, since he's banned and I'd like the subjects to be able to post their thoughts here. Feel free to speak to them directly to get more information. In fact, I encourage it. Make sure this entry is both accurate and fair by sending the suject matter a copy of it to review. Post your entry in the Otakupedia thread when it is completed, then answer the following questions here... 1: What bothered you so much about their criticism towards you and your event? 2: What did you learn in your research that surprised you the most? How did learning about them effect your opinion of this member? 3: Do you feel their criticism is more justified after learning more about their experience on the boards? Please elaborate. 4: If any, what steps have you made to address member criticism towards your event 5: Why is member feedback so important to Community Events? If this sounds like a high school report, you're right. Grow up and show some respect around here, kids. -Shy
  7. Superfriends Liz nervously dressed while her boyfriend stood outside the door. ?Are you sure this is okay?? ?Of course!" Mitch replied, ?They?re going to love you.? She slowly opened the door to reveal her golden tiara and lasso. Liz blushed. Mitch kissed her softly, and smiled. ?Let?s go, babe. The convention fanboys are waiting.?
  8. Voodookanaka was the gorgeous one, no? If anyone has an archive of one of the older Otaku Pictures Sites you'd know what I mean. While on that subject, we'll need lengthy articles about the Picture Forum, the death of the picture forum, and the website that spawned from it. Hopefully we can drag Tori back to provide some details about these, since it was a specialty of hers. I'd be willing to serve as a moderator of Otakupedia is Sara and Nerdsy would moderate with me. Between the three of us I think we cover quite a bit of territory. Roxie: Don't get me started on Devidramon! Although I hated him at the time, I find him to be one of the digi-peeps I miss the most. Other noteworthy digi-peeps include Shawn, Digital_Monster (Krissy,) and Renee. Shawn is happily dating a man in Las Vegas last I heard. I wonder how Ginny feels about that. Krissy and DM two disappeared entirely shortly after the Digimon forum was closed. -Shy
  9. James: I dare you to find anyone who liked, or even understood what OtakuBot was supposed to look like. The fact that his avatar cut off his bottom half only helped my argument that he was a bathroom scale or razorblade. -Shy
  10. AE Boards AE Boards were an offshoot of the once-popular anime website, Anime Explosion, created in 2002 by OtakuBoards Anime Lounge moderator, Rick Hunter (also known as Kevin.) Rick Hunter worked alongside Adam and theOtaku.com to create original content, building an anime reviews website from the ground up. In return, theOtaku.com would link to Anime Explosion in hopes of attracting new visitors. Thus a strained symbiotic relationship was formed between the two. Unfortunately, the end result of this relationship only proved to be beneficial for theOtaku. New visitors to Anime Explosion had difficulty navigating the poorly-designed site, and only rarely returned. As an attempt to attract more visitors to Anime Explosion, AE Boards were eventually created in hopes of achieving the same success that OtakuBoards had. Rick Hunter used OB to draw prominent members towards AE Boards, promising staff positions and a chance to run an online community in what they felt was a more effective manner. Many members held their first staff positions on AE Boards before eventually being given the chance to moderate at OtakuBoards. Charles (then Crazy White Boy,) Babygirl, Shy, Queen Asuka, Syk3 (then Solid Snake) and countless others worked as staff during the boards' early months, often meeting over AIM to discuss the future of the site and issues of the day. These "AE Boards Staff Chats" became infamous for the heated discussions between their participants, most notably between Rick Hunter and his fellow administrator Charles. In less than a year literally dozens of members rotated in and out of staff positions on AE Boards, with most being forcibly removed from their positions after disagreeing with Rick Hunter. Although never as active as OtakuBoards, AE Boards received a significant boost in membership during the month long OB downtime of 2004. By this time Rick Hunter became obsession changed from creating a successful anime website to beating theOtaku.com and its network of successful sites. As a result he demanded that all of his content be taken off theOtaku.com, leaving the fledgling anime reviews site in shambles. It wouldn't be until years later that the anime reviews section had anywhere near the quality or quantity of content that it did during the time Rick Hunter served as head writer on the project. Regardless of this falling out with Adam, he held onto his OB staff position hoping to destroy the community from the inside. Following several heated conflicts with OtakuBoards staff he was de-modded and eventually banned, coming back several times to wreak havoc in the forums under new user names and accounts. AE Boards were deleted and re-formed several times as well, but without a popular companion site to draw members from, AE Boards, and Anime Explosion both suffered to develop a following of their own. By 2005 Anime Explosion and AE Boards had been deleted. Rick Hunter has not been heard from since. Feel free to edit or add to this however you see fit, Charles. -Shy
  11.
And Shy...wasn't it really only you who didn't like the idea of OtakuBot? And wasn't that because you favored your own, much less appropriate mascot? (Bosko, who has nothing to do with Japanese culture whatsoever). I was just wondering about that, lol. :catgirl:
I've always argued that OtakuBoards is an anime message board frequented by people who couldn't care less about anime. It's only appropriate that our mascot have absolutely nothing to do with anime as well. (Although, for the record, silent cartoon stars like Bosko are incredibly popular in Japan to this day.) And no, I'm not the only one who had issue with his appearance. Sara was the one who likened him to a razor blade, and it was Tony who said "Good riddance," after he was forcibly removed from the site. So there! Fortunately I wrote a lot of old MyOtaku updates that can be transformed into Otakupedia entries pretty easily. Hopefully more member start to contribute, seeing as I don't want it just to be Charles and myself doing the whole thing. -Shy
  12. Fantastic idea. I hope this is acceptable as an entry. It probably needs some editing, though. My memory is hazy on the subject, and I'm also blind. OtakuBot OtakuBot was a mascot for the OtakuBoards Community created in August 2002 by Generic NPC #3 and James. This was the first, and most noteworthy of a series of failed projects coinciding with a site-wide initiative then known only as "My Otaku," (this My Otaku had no relation to the current myOtaku companion site.) The idea was that site announcements, rules threads and "How to" guides could be more effective and more fun if they were posted by a cute, fictional mascot rather than an established member. OtakuBot was based on an original, Japanese Famicon disk, which served as a point of controversy and confusion for many. From the beginning, many had problems with OtakuBot's appearance, likening it to a bathroom scale or a razor blade. Ironically, it was its? cutesy appearance which made it difficult for members to take OtakuBot, and the "My Otaku" initiative seriously. This My Otaku was supposed to have featured an interactive guide to OtakuBoards, containing various tutorials and rules threads written by the site's staff. In a dedicated forum, "The Otaku Information Center," OtakuBot "posted" two rules threads, its? only posts on the forum. The forum laid abandoned for nearly a year due to a lack of staff involvement before being removed entirely. It wasn't until much later that OtakuBot's member account was deleted unexpectedly. OtakuBot lives on as an inside joke between elder board members, and was given a significant cameo in Solo Tremaine's "Enter the Net" fan-fiction story. -Shy

    Wii Sports

Wii Sports is one of the most important and entertaining games in years, and the first thing to stop me from playing Final Fantasy XII. It's very rare that non-gamers like my boyfriend and roommates stop for a moment to pay attention to what I'm currently playing., and it's even more rare that they want to try the game for themselves! I only have one nunchuck right now, so we can't play boxing on multiplayer, but we've had a lot of fun playing Tennis and Baseball in particular. My beau, who hasn't touched a video game since Frogger, was playing Tennis until two in the morning. This is going to be the game that sells Wii to the masses. My Mom could play this with her friends; anyone could. I love how easy the games are to pick up, and how much depth there is to them. It is also important to say how much exercise you get from is playing Wii Sports. My arms have been sore since I bought the thing, and it's a genuine workout to play a few rounds of Boxing. My boyfriend called me from work to tell me how sore he was from Wii Sports, and also that he's desperate to get back home and play again. Another great feature is being able to play as your customizable 'Mii" in the various games. I created an entire family of Miis so that when my friends come over they can play as themselves. Hopefully Nintendo creates more games where you can play with your Miis, because I thnk they're the coolest damn thing ever. One thing I would have liked to have seen was a "Party Mode," or a more structured way to play the various sports games. The lack of this feature only makes me hungry for the inevitable Mario Party title, and perhaps a Wii Sports sequel? -Shy
  14. It's a little late to say this, but I have played 13 Dead End Drive before. Mafia is loosely based on an on old grade school game, and Kumite borrows the format from various Anthology threads and past events. None of them are completely original in any respect. -Shy
  15. We are reaching our first week of the events and so far the activity in this forum has been quite small. Sign-ups for Mafia seem generally low, Kumite's are non-existant. Since Labyrinth requires PMs as sign-ups, only Sandy knows for certain if his event is doing any better than the competition so far (although I suspect it isn't.) Interview One: Member Interest White is the only one so far to make a change to the format of the sign-ups by allowing extra days for members to join Mafia. This shows a flexibility that is an important trait for any staff member to have. Also, Mafia has attracted members not typically involved in Community Events. Aaryanna_Mom stands out as a great member who had never participated in RPGs of Community Events before, but Mafia attracted her. Getting new members to the events forum rather than relying on a staple of 'regulars' is very important to me, and to the future of OB in general. Kumite is definitely struggling, and my feeling is that it has to do with the demanding nature of the sign-up. The graphics tournaments usually have a great turnout, so why would a writing tournament fail to attract a following? These are things Gavin has to figure out if he hopes to make it past this early stage in the competition. Kumite has far too much potential to be dismissed over lack of member sign-ups. (On a minor note: It should also be noted that despite Gavin's claim, Kumite is not OtakuBoard's original writing competition. That title goes to the original Otaku idol, started by the always-awesome Charles.) Labyrinth remains the most secretive, and possibly least ambitious of the events that made it into this round. Many have complained that it's too similar to RPG work that Sandy has done in the past, and I personally would have liked to have seen something more original as well. Having said that, Labyrinth has the potential to be genuinely engaging to the members participating in it. I wonder if it will also be so much fun for non-participating members to read. Remember that you are creating events for the entire community to enjoy, and Kumite is the only one of the three events that promises to actively involve the community as a whole. Anyone can sign-up for Mafia and Labyrinth, yes, but can you say your event is very entertaining to read through if you're not participating? Although far from being the biggest failure in Community Events history, Kumite, Mafia and Labyrinth have failed to attract significant member interest. One wonders how much of this is due to a recent lull in activity forum-wide, and how much it has to do with the events themselves, or the people running them. All three of you have a long and significant history with this forum, and members are aware that the success of your event directly ties to your candidacy as OtakuBoard's next Event Master My questions are these. All candidates are required to answer them in full: 1) How do you feel your standing in the OtakuBoards community has impacted the success (or lack thereof) of your event's sign-ups? Be specific. 2) How do you feel the standing of each other candidate in the OtakuBoards community has impacted their own success (or lack thereof)? Be specific. 3) Do you feel you have adequately promoted your event to the OtakuBoards community? How are you doing that? 4) Will your event be able to continue if you do not receive the quantity or quality of sign-ups you expected? What will need to change? 5) How have your expectations for member interest compared to actual member interest in your event? How do you feel about that? 6) What do you blame for a lack of interest in these events so far? Please be specific. -Shy
  16. Thanks to everyone who submitted an Event. I'm more than aware of how complicated these can be to come up with, so it was a pleasant surprise to see these 'pitches' as organized and thought-out as they were. Sandy (Labyrinth,) White (Mafia,) and Gavin (Kumite) have been chosen to compete as the finalists, which means that all three of their events will launch simeltaneously on Monday. Not by Monday, but on Monday. If there is a reason you won't be able to post your event on Monday pleae notify me via PM and we can work something out. If members have any general questions or opinions about these competing events, or the proccess of choosing our new Event Master please feel free to use this thread to ask them. While these events progress I will 'interview' the candidates here, and give my professional opinions on how things transpire. See ya Monday. -Shy
  17. The 'prize' for a competition-based event is up to the member creating it, but I would suggest something like a virtual trophy, or a custom member title. If your event is chosen, then the details of the prize can be determined as the event progresses. -Shy
  18.
1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but answering the additional questions doesn't affect the 1000 word limit on the pitching, right? 2. What do you exactly want from the pitching? Is it just meant to be an advertisement of sorts (á la the Coming Attractions thread), or does it have to include everything from the rules of the game to the sign-up form for the participants (as in a full-fledged plan)?
Great questions, Sandy. 1. Right, answering the additional questions will not count towards the 1,000 word limit. The word limit on pitches is put in place so that members will try to explain their events as concisely as possible. 2. The pitch itself should be a general overview of the event. Things such as a sign-up form or artwork may be included in the pitch, but are not neccessary. If you are creating something like OB Survivor, featuring various challenges, it would be a good idea to include an example of the types of challenges the members will face. Including all of the challenges is not neccessary, nor is including anything that might spoil the event. In the case that you are pitching an event with a cohesive storyline, like The Legionnaires, only provide as much story information as neccessary. Make your pitch compelling enough to sell me in the event, but please don't spoil everything up front! Also it is important that you explain the logistics of running such an event, and how you are going to physically do it. People don't realize how much work it is to run something like the Nifty Fifty, and I suspect that many of these pitches will be a little too ambitious. You cannot use outside help for your event (the exception being asking other members or friends for artwork.) This all you, so don't overextend yourself. -Shy
  19. Every so often moderators receive questions from regular members, asking how they too could become part of the OtakuBoards staff. In the past staff members were chosen based on post quality, and general understanding of the rules. Never before have members been given a chance to 'try out' a staff position before accepting it. That changes today. For the first time in OB?s history you will be given a chance to ?audition? for a staff position, specifically to replace myself as the board?s new Event Master. Since we are trying to find a new Event Master, the most logical thing to do was build an event around it. Here it is! Interested parties will be required to fill out a sign-up form and ?pitch? an idea for an event in this thread. This pitch must be no more than 1,000 words long. The event itself must not last any longer than 8 weeks (including any necessary sign-ups,) and cannot take place over more than two threads. Beyond that there are no creative restraints. Those members who create the most organized, creative and interesting pitches will be given a chance to run those events for real, and act as a de facto Event Master throughout the duration of their event. Several members will be given this opportunity, and all of these events will be running at the same time. During this time I will provide commentary and answer member?s questions in this thread, but other than that I will have no direct participation in the events themselves. Only when all of the events have ended will I and the staff?s administration look over the finalists and choose OtakuBoards? next Event Master. This choice will be made based off of the success of their event, and the qualifications of the event?s creator. This position is open to anyone interested, newbie, existing staff, or otherwise. All members interested in applying must fill out the following form, in addition to ?pitching? their event:

Why I want to become an Event Master:
Why Community Events are important:
Why I wouldn?t suck at the job:
My favorite memory of OB:
All of these pitches are due by November 10th. At that point the finalists will be notified, and all of the events will launch the following Monday. From that point on it will be either 8 weeks, or until all of the events have ended, that the final winner will be selected. As stated above, all questions regarding this event should be posted in this thread. Special thanks to Charles for providing the idea behind this event, and to Nomad for the nifty banner. -Shy

    House
The stuff with the underage girl was great too. [spoiler']You should've seen me when House launched into the Casablanca quotes, haha. That was so fantastic. I hope that's not the last we see of her though. It seems like kind of a cop-out that her infatuation with House is a result of spores or whatever. House's, "Damn it! Damn it!" after his explanation was pretty damn funny, at least.

You realize House was just saying that so the girl would begin to question her own judgement, right? the giveaway was when he said 'You'll probably live.' At least, that's how I interpreted it. Some women are just sluts.
Anyway, I don't watch House all that often but last night's episode was great. The mystery surrounding the wavy lines really had me confused for most of the episode, but more often than not I'm just struggling to follow along with the show (rather than solve the medical mystery myself.) The relationship between House and his ex is getting much more tense as the show progresses. I imagine this, and his growing relationship with that other doctor girl, is going to come into play at some point.
I do have to say that putting a bloody carpet back in House's office is probably a major health concern, though. Especially since it was lying in a dumpster for most of the episode. And House suffering from Asbergers? Brilliant! I watch Boston Legal and one of the supporting characters suffers from that, although his condition is played up for laughs more than anything else. I wish they had delved deeper into the idea of House having some kind of specific disorder, as it really adds a new perspective on the character.
-Shy

    Heroes on NBC
Everyone needs to check out this show. Especially Shy. You'll love it, dude. Right up your alley.
The premise of the show reminds me too much of my old 'Hero' RPG. It bothers me to the point where I can't even watch the show's promos without wanting to smash something. I think I'm more bothered that 'Hero' died, than the fact 'Heroes' has a similar premise and title. Everyone I know who has seen the premiere loves it, though. So maybe I'll give ita chance. -Shy

At times the customers can be incredibly demanding, but it's dealing with most of my co-workers that bothers me the most. For the time being it's an easy way to earn cash, and since it pays quite well I'd rather not complain anymore about it. -Shy
